Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a display device and a method for manufacturing the display device, and one disclosed embodiment relates to a structure between bonded substrates.
In recent years, there is an increasing demand for high definition and low power consumption in light emitting display devices for mobile use. Examples of mobile display devices include liquid crystal display devices (LCD), display devices using organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) such as organic EL display devices, and electronic paper. It has been adopted.
Among them, the organic EL display device and electronic paper do not require a backlight or polarizing plate, which is necessary for a liquid crystal display device, and the driving voltage of the light emitting element is low. It attracts attention. In particular, development of an organic EL display device of a top emission type (also referred to as a top emission type) that achieves full color by using a white light emitting element as a light emitting element and using a color filter is in progress. The above-mentioned top emission type organic EL display device has attracted a great deal of attention because it can achieve both improvement in the aperture ratio of the pixel and high definition.
In a high-definition top emission type organic EL display device, it is known that display unevenness due to a difference in optical path length occurs when the distance between the light emitting layer and the counter substrate is different. Therefore, in order to suppress the display unevenness, a technique for arranging a spacer between an array substrate on which a light emitting layer and a transistor layer are arranged and a counter substrate has been advanced (for example, Patent Document 1). Here, when the height of the spacer is equal to or higher than the thickness of the filler filled between the array substrate and the counter substrate, the distance between the array substrate and the counter substrate can be controlled by the height of the spacer. .
On the other hand, in a high-definition display device, if the filler between the array substrate and the counter substrate is thick, the phenomenon that light emitted from the light emitting layer is emitted to the outside from adjacent pixels becomes a problem. In particular, in a structure in which a color filter is disposed on the counter substrate side, color mixture due to light leakage between adjacent pixels occurs. In order to suppress color mixing, it is necessary to shorten the distance between the light emitting layer and the color filter. For example, instead of the conventionally used spacer, a structure using partition walls and fillers to define pixels as spacers has been developed. . In this structure, the distance between the array substrate and the counter substrate needs to be controlled uniformly within the substrate surface with respect to the height of the spacer and the thickness of the filler on the spacer.
An object of this invention is to provide the display apparatus which can suppress generation | occurrence | production of display nonuniformity, and its manufacturing method.

A method for manufacturing the
First, a manufacturing method on the
The
In the first embodiment, the
Next, the process (step S304) for forming the
Here, the formation method of the
In order to form the
As shown in FIG. 5, the
As described above, by developing the exposed
The
FIG. 7 is a diagram illustrating a process of forming a light emitting layer and a common electrode in the method for manufacturing a display device according to the first embodiment of the present invention. As shown in FIG. 7, after the
At this time, the
Further, when forming the
FIG. 8 is a diagram showing a process of forming a protective layer in the method for manufacturing a display device according to the first embodiment of the present invention. As shown in FIG. 8, after forming the
In addition, in the
Next, a manufacturing method on the
In FIG. 9, the manufacturing method for forming the color filters 220, 230, and 240 on the
As the

As described above, the process can be shortened by manufacturing partition walls having different heights in the same process using a multi-tone mask. As a result, a display device in which display unevenness is suppressed at a lower manufacturing cost can be manufactured.

FIG. 14 is a diagram illustrating a process of extending the filler by pressing the array substrate against the counter substrate in the bonding process of the array substrate and the counter substrate of the display device according to the first exemplary embodiment of the present invention. By pressing the
FIG. 15 is a diagram illustrating a process of pressing the array substrate and the counter substrate at atmospheric pressure in the bonding process of the array substrate and the counter substrate of the display device according to the first embodiment of the present invention. By changing the atmosphere of the bonded substrate in the state shown in FIG. 14 from vacuum to atmospheric pressure, the
As described above, by using atmospheric pressure for pressing after bonding the
<Comparative example>
Here, the comparative example of Embodiment 1 of this invention is demonstrated using FIG.16 and 17. FIG. FIG. 16 is a plan view of a display device in a comparative example. Since FIG. 16 is the same as FIG. 1 and detailed description is omitted, the
FIG. 17 is a cross-sectional view taken along line CD of the display device in the comparative example. FIG. 17 is similar to FIG. 2, but differs from FIG. 2 in that the height of the
As described above, according to the display device of the comparative example, display unevenness occurs due to the difference in the thickness of the filler in the
Note that the present invention is not limited to the above-described embodiment, and can be modified as appropriate without departing from the spirit of the present invention.
