Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a composite of titanium dioxide and graphene and a method for producing the same.
Carbon is one of the materials that mankind has used the longest. As carbon materials, various products such as fuels such as charcoal and coke, general materials such as carbon black, activated carbon and graphite, and functional materials such as carbon fiber and glassy carbon are known. In recent years, so-called nanomaterials such as fullerenes, carbon nanotubes, carbon nanofibers, and graphene have been proposed as the newest carbon materials, and these can be artificially produced. These have a structure in which carbon crystals are grown and extended in a two-dimensional layered manner, or in a three-dimensional polyhedral or hollow shape. The thickness of the outer shells and layers in these structures is theoretically one carbon atom and can be said to be the thinnest on the earth. These carbon nanomaterials have special chemical and physical properties that are not found in conventional carbon materials due to their unique shapes. Therefore, carbon nanomaterials are expected to be used in various fields as new materials that replace conventional carbon materials.
As the use of carbon nanomaterials, the compounding of inorganic materials such as various metal compounds and ceramics with carbon nanomaterials has been eagerly studied. It is expected that a nanocomposite that is light and has excellent conductivity, thermal conductivity, and strength that has never been obtained by combining is expected.
One of the inorganic materials used for such a nanocomposite is a conductive or semiconductive inorganic material. For example, titanium oxide has several different crystal structures, each exhibiting excellent properties as an industrial material. Titanium oxide has a wide range of uses such as pigments, colorants, catalysts, conductive materials, and battery materials. Nanocomposites of carbon nanomaterials and conductive or semiconductive inorganic materials such as titanium oxide are expected as new materials that can be expected to be used in a wide range of applications.
As nanocomposites of carbon nanomaterials and titanium dioxide, relatively many development examples of nanocomposites of carbon nanotubes (CNT) and titanium dioxide are known (
Graphene is an interesting nanomaterial. First, the shape of graphene is special. Graphene is itself the thinnest material on earth. The carbon atoms constituting the graphene are covalently bonded in a honeycomb lattice shape in the two-dimensional direction. The thickness of graphene is theoretically only one carbon atom. And the physical properties of graphene are also special. Graphene has a larger surface area, higher electrical conductivity, higher thermal conductivity, better mechanical stability, higher heat resistance, and lower density than other carbon nanomaterials, such as carbon nanotubes. Graphene having such unique shapes and physical properties can be applied to fine industrial products that could not be realized with conventional carbon-based materials. Therefore, more efficient graphene production methods and application of graphene in various fields are actively studied.
(非特許文献4,5,6) In the case of nanomaterials, theoretically, a target is produced by growing a target from a smaller part to a larger part, a so-called bottom-up method, and extracting a smaller part from a larger part. Both manufacturing methods, so-called top-down methods, are being considered. In the case of graphene, a method of peeling the graphene film from the graphite crystal, which is a top-down manufacturing method, has been studied. Graphite is a relatively inexpensive and mass produced carbon material. Theoretically, a large amount of graphene can be obtained by separating a large amount of graphite laminated crystals into a single layer. As such a graphene exfoliation method, a chemical exfoliation method has been proposed as a method that is suitable for relatively large scale and can be performed with simple equipment. (Non-patent documents 4, 5, 6)
The inventor of the present invention has further studied the nanocomposite of graphene and a conductor / semiconductor material as a nanocomposite of a carbon nanomaterial and a conductor / semiconductor material in order to obtain a new nanomaterial. I paid attention to. Then, a chemical exfoliation method, which is a relatively low cost production method of graphene, was examined in association with this nanocomposite.
As a result, they discovered an epoch-making technique in which graphene exfoliation from graphite by chemical exfoliation and nanocomposite of graphene and titanium oxide are performed in a series of steps.

The amount of phthalic acid used is a small amount corresponding to the amount of catalyst.
(Composite of titanium dioxide and graphene) The starting materials of the composite of the present invention are titanium tetraalkoxide and graphite. Titanium tetraalkoxide is a liquid compound represented by Ti (OR) 4 (R is an alkyl group having 2 to 4 carbon atoms). Preferred titanium tetraalkoxides are titanium tetraethoxide: Ti (OEt) 4 (Et: ethyl group), titanium tetranormal propoxide: Ti (OnPr) 4 (nPr: n-propyl group), titanium tetraisopropoxide: Ti (OiPr) 4 (iPr: i-propyl group), titanium tetranormal butoxide: Ti (OnBu) 4 (nBu: n-butyl group), titanium tetraisobutoxide: Ti (OiBu) 4 (iBu: i-butyl group) It is. In order to reliably develop the graphene stripping ability of titanium tetraalkoxide, it is necessary to use a product having high purity as the titanium tetraalkoxide.
(Method for producing composite of titanium dioxide and graphene) The composite of the present invention can be produced by the following steps.
(Step 1) Titanium tetraalkoxide and graphite powder are mixed to prepare a graphite suspension. The concentration of the graphite powder is suitably 200 to 2000 mg with respect to 100 ml of titanium tetraalkoxide.
(Step 2) By sonicating the obtained graphite suspension, a single layer of graphene peels from the layered crystal of graphite and is dispersed in titanium tetraalkoxide. Sonication conditions are adjusted to maximize the graphene yield by a combination of frequency, temperature, and treatment time. The frequency can be selected from the range of 28 to 68 kHz, but 40 kHz used for cleaning delicate objects is common. The temperature can be selected from a range of 10 to 60 ° C. The longer the treatment time, the more graphene exfoliation proceeds and the graphene yield increases. However, in order to prevent defects in the graphene film, the processing time is generally 1 to 3 hours.
(Step 3) After
(Step 4) The graphene remover is stirred while being dropped into the dispersion obtained in
(Step 5) After Step 4, the dispersion is dried to recover a composite of titanium dioxide and graphene.
The composite of the present invention is a solid exhibiting a metallic luster. The appearance is completely different from that of a graphene film that usually shows a translucent black color. The metallic luster is presumed to originate from free electrons generated by highly bonding titanium dioxide as a semiconductor and graphene as a semimetal.

(Step 2) The obtained suspension was subjected to ultrasonic treatment at 40 kHz, 50 ° C. for 2 hours. A dispersion containing graphene and unexfoliated graphite was obtained in Ti (OnBt) 4. (Step 3) The obtained dispersion was centrifuged at 2000 rpm for 2 hours, and the dispersion containing graphene and Ti (OnBt) 4 was recovered except for the sedimented fraction of the dispersion. The appearance of the dispersion is shown in FIG. (Step 4) Benzylamine was added dropwise to the recovered dispersion while stirring. During stirring for 30 minutes, 10% (volume ratio) of benzylamine was added dropwise to the dispersion. Further, the reaction was terminated when the dispersion was no longer changed. The composite of the present invention was produced under the same conditions except that 98 g of phthalic acid was used. As in Example 1, a composite exhibiting metallic luster was recovered.
