Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to an optical communication module.
In optical communication, an optical signal and an electric signal are mutually converted by an optical communication module having a photoelectric conversion function. For example, two devices to be connected are connected via a cable with a connector in which connectors having a photoelectric conversion function are attached in advance to both ends of an optical fiber cable. Alternatively, an optical transceiver having a photoelectric conversion function is connected to each of two devices to be connected, and these optical transceivers are connected to each other via an optical fiber cable.
An optical communication module including a connector and an optical transceiver attached to a cable with a connector includes a light emitting element as a photoelectric conversion element. Further, some optical communication modules including a light emitting element include a light receiving element for monitoring light emitted from the light emitting element. In this type of optical communication module, the light emitting element is controlled based on a change in current output from the light receiving element that has received a part of the light emitted from the light emitting element. That is, the light emitting element is feedback-controlled, and the light emission amount of the light emitting element is kept constant. In particular, a laser which is an example of a light emitting element has a large variation in light emission amount due to a change in ambient temperature. Therefore, when a vertical cavity surface emitting laser (VCSEL) which is an example of a laser is used as the light emitting element, it is preferable to perform the above feedback control.
In
In the first optical communication module described in
On the other hand, in the second optical communication module described in
An object of the present invention is to allow monitor light to be efficiently incident on a light receiving element and to align the light receiving element and an optical member that guides the monitor light to the light receiving element easily and with high accuracy.
The optical communication module of the present invention is an optical communication module including an optical member that causes a part of light emitted from the light emitting element to enter the optical fiber and the other part to enter the light receiving element. The optical member includes a first lens unit that collimates the light emitted from the light emitting element, a reflection unit that reflects a part of the collimated light emitted from the first lens unit, and the light emitted from the first lens unit. And a second lens unit for condensing the light reflected by the reflecting unit onto the optical fiber. The light receiving element is mounted on the optical member and covers the transmission part.
In one aspect of the present invention, the optical member includes an incident surface facing the light emitting surface of the light emitting element, a first emission surface parallel to the incident surface, and between the incident surface and the first emission surface. A second exit surface provided; and a reflection surface provided between the entrance surface and the first exit surface and inclined with respect to the second exit surface. The first lens unit is provided on the incident surface, the reflecting unit is provided on the reflecting surface, the transmitting unit is provided on the first emitting surface, and the second lens unit is provided on the second emitting surface. The light receiving element is mounted on the first emission surface.
In another aspect of the present invention, a part of the light receiving surface of the light receiving element overlaps the first light emitting surface, and the other part protrudes outside the first light emitting surface.
In another aspect of the invention, the entire light receiving surface of the light receiving element overlaps the first light exit surface.
According to the present invention, the monitor light can be efficiently incident on the light receiving element, and the light receiving element and the optical member that guides the monitor light to the light receiving element can be easily and accurately aligned.
Hereinafter, an exemplary embodiment of the optical communication module of the present invention will be described. As shown in FIG. 1, the
A
An
The material of the
As shown in FIG. 2, the
A
The
Here, the
The
A
As shown in FIG. 2, the
As described above, the
In the present embodiment, the
The present invention is not limited to the above-described embodiment, and various modifications can be made without departing from the scope of the invention. For example, the
However, the shape of the
