Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery, and more particularly to a non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery with improved durability against high-rate charge / discharge.
In recent years, lithium ion secondary batteries, nickel metal hydride batteries, and other non-aqueous electrolyte secondary batteries have become increasingly important as power sources for mounting on vehicles or personal computers and portable terminals (for example, Patent Document 1). In particular, a lithium ion secondary battery that is lightweight and obtains a high energy density is preferably used as a high-output power source mounted on a vehicle. As a typical form of this type of non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery, a long positive electrode sheet and a long negative electrode sheet are overlapped with a separator sheet interposed therebetween, and this is used. A structure having a wound wound electrode body is known.
By the way, some uses of the non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery are assumed to be used in a mode in which charging and discharging at a high rate are repeated. A non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery used as a power source for vehicles is a typical example of a non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery in which such a usage mode is assumed. However, even though the conventional non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery has a relatively high durability against a charge / discharge cycle at a low rate, the performance deteriorates in a charge / discharge pattern that repeats high-rate charge / discharge. It has been known that the battery resistance is likely to increase. This invention is made | formed in view of this point, The main objective is to provide the non-aqueous-electrolyte secondary battery with which durability with respect to high-rate charging / discharging was improved.
The present inventor continuously repeats discharging and charging at a high rate as expected in a non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery for a vehicle power source in a non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery having a wound electrode body. We focused on the phenomenon that the internal resistance increased significantly. Then, the influence which the repetition of this high rate charge / discharge has on the nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery was analyzed in detail.
As a result, in a non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery that has been repeatedly charged and discharged at a high rate, the salt concentration of the non-aqueous electrolyte that has permeated into the wound electrode body is uneven (uneven) depending on the location. The non-aqueous electrolyte and a part of the salt move from the central part of the wound electrode body to both ends (open ends) of the wound electrode body, and from both ends (open ends) of the electrode body It has been found that by moving to the outside, the salt concentration at the center in the winding axis direction of the wound electrode body is lower than at both ends (open ends) (the salt concentration is greatly reduced compared to the initial state). It was. Thus, when there is a bias in the distribution of the salt concentration of the non-aqueous electrolyte solution, the battery reaction is relatively slow at a portion where the salt concentration is relatively low, so that the high-rate charge / discharge performance as a whole battery is degraded. Further, since the battery reaction concentrates on the portion where the salt concentration is relatively high, the deterioration of the portion is promoted. Any of these events can be a factor that reduces the durability of the non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery against a charge / discharge pattern (high rate charge / discharge cycle) that repeats high rate charge / discharge.
Based on this knowledge, the present invention improves the durability of non-aqueous electrolyte secondary batteries against high-rate charge / discharge cycles by the approach of eliminating or mitigating the uneven distribution of salt concentration in the non-aqueous electrolyte. is there.
That is, the non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery provided by the present invention includes a positive electrode sheet having a positive electrode active material layer on a long positive electrode current collector, and a negative electrode active material layer on a long negative electrode current collector. A negative electrode sheet, a wound electrode body wound by overlapping a separator sheet interposed between the positive electrode sheet and the negative electrode sheet, a battery case containing the wound electrode body, and the battery case And an injected non-aqueous electrolyte. The separator sheet has a filler layer containing an inorganic filler and a binder on the surface of the separator sheet. Here, in the winding axis direction of the wound electrode body, the binder contained in the end portions on both sides of the filler layer is more non-aqueous electrolyte than the binder contained in the intermediate portion of the filler layer excluding the end portions. In contrast, the degree of swelling is high.
According to this non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery, in the winding axis direction, the binder contained in the end portions on both sides of the filler layer is more resistant to the non-aqueous electrolyte solution than the binder contained in the intermediate portion excluding the end portion. The degree of swelling is high. For this reason, in the state accommodated in the battery case and the nonaqueous electrolyte solution being injected into the battery case, the end portions on both sides of the filler layer are thicker than the intermediate portion. As a result, the gap is reduced at both ends of the wound electrode body in the winding axis direction as compared with the central portion, and a part of the non-aqueous electrolyte and the salt are removed from both ends of the wound electrode body in the winding axis direction. Can be prevented from being discharged to the outside. In such a non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery, it is difficult for unevenness (unevenness) to occur in the distribution of salt concentration in the wound electrode body. For this reason, the phenomenon in which the internal resistance increases due to the uneven distribution of the salt concentration in the wound electrode body can be mitigated.

As shown in FIGS. 2 and 3, the

In this example, as shown in FIGS. 2 and 3, the width b1 of the negative electrode
≪Electrolyte (nonaqueous electrolyte) ≫
As the electrolytic solution (non-aqueous electrolytic solution), the same non-aqueous electrolytic solution conventionally used for lithium ion secondary batteries can be used without any particular limitation. Such a nonaqueous electrolytic solution typically has a composition in which a supporting salt is contained in a suitable nonaqueous solvent. Examples of the non-aqueous solvent include one or more selected from the group consisting of ethylene carbonate (EC), dimethyl carbonate (DMC), diethyl carbonate (DEC), ethyl methyl carbonate (EMC), propylene carbonate, and the like. Can be used. Moreover, as said support salt, lithium salts, such as LiPF 6 , can be used, for example. As an example, a nonaqueous electrolytic solution in which LiPF 6 is contained in a mixed solvent of ethylene carbonate and diethyl carbonate (for example, a mass ratio of 1: 1) at a concentration of about 1 mol / L can be given.
Hereinafter, the
FIG. 4 is a cross-sectional view showing a part of the laminated structure of the
バインダの膨潤度(%)=(浸漬後のバインダの質量)/(浸漬前のバインダの質量)×100;
Here, the degree of swelling of the binder with respect to the non-aqueous electrolyte is such that the binder is dried to form a film having a predetermined thickness (for example, about 100 μm). This film is cut into a predetermined size (for example, a 3 cm × 3 cm square). With the film sufficiently dried, the mass of the binder (the mass of the binder before immersion) is measured. Next, it is immersed in a nonaqueous electrolytic solution for 24 hours. The mass of the binder taken out from the non-aqueous electrolyte (the mass of the binder after immersion) is measured. The degree of swelling of the binder can be determined by the following formula based on the value obtained by dividing the mass of the binder after immersion by the mass of the binder before immersion.
Swelling degree (%) of binder = (mass of binder after immersion) / (mass of binder before immersion) × 100;
Here, as the binder having a high degree of swelling with respect to the non-aqueous electrolyte, a binder having a small difference in SP value from the non-aqueous electrolyte may be used. Further, as the binder having a low degree of swelling with respect to the non-aqueous electrolyte, a binder having a large difference in SP value (dissolution parameter) from that of the non-aqueous electrolyte may be used. Here, the SP value is also referred to as “dissolution parameter”. The SP value (solubility parameter) is obtained by regarding the intermolecular force as the SP value (solubility parameter) when the force acting between the solvent and the solute is assumed to be only the intermolecular force. The SP value of the nonaqueous electrolytic solution may be calculated by multiplying the volume ratio based on the SP value of the nonaqueous solvent constituting the nonaqueous electrolytic solution. Preferably, the binder contained in the end portions E1 and E2 on both sides of the
FIG. 5 shows an embodiment of the present invention. The binder contained in the end portions E1 and E2 on both sides of the
In this case, the binder contained in the end portions E1 and E2 on both sides of the
In this embodiment, as shown in FIGS. 2 and 3, the
In this case, end portions on both sides of the filler layer 266 (hereinafter, also referred to as high-swelling binder end portions) E1 and E2 in which the high-swelling binder is used are the
Next, a method for forming the

As an evaluation test of a non-aqueous secondary battery, the swelling degree of the binder contained in both ends in the winding axis direction of the filler layer with respect to the non-aqueous electrolyte is the swelling degree of the binder contained in the intermediate part with respect to the non-aqueous electrolyte. An evaluation cell was prepared for a higher form and the effect was verified.

A battery for evaluation test (lithium ion secondary battery) was constructed using the negative electrode prepared above, the positive electrode, and the separator sheet. Here, a wound electrode body was produced by laminating and winding a positive electrode sheet and a negative electrode sheet with a separator interposed therebetween. And the winding electrode body was accommodated in the battery case, the nonaqueous electrolyte solution was poured and sealed, and the cell for evaluation was constructed.
<< Battery Samples 1-4 for Evaluation Test >>
Hereinafter, a plurality of samples 1 to 4 of the battery for evaluation test will be described. As shown in FIG. 4, each of the samples 1 to 4 of the battery for the evaluation test has ends (highly swelled binder ends) E1, E2 on both sides of the

In sample 2, the width W2 of the end portion of the high-swelling binder of the
In sample 3, the SP value of the binder contained in the high-swelling binder end portions E1 and E2 of the
In sample 4, the SP value of the binder contained in the highly swellable binder end portions E1 and E2 of the
The charge / discharge pattern which repeats high-rate charge / discharge was given with respect to the cell for evaluation which concerns on the said samples 1-4, and the charge / discharge cycle test was done. Specifically, in a room temperature (about 25 ° C.) environment, a high rate of discharge for 10 seconds with a constant current discharge of 30 C, pause for 10 minutes, charge for 60 seconds with constant current charge of 5 C, and pause for 10 minutes The charge / discharge cycle was repeated 30000 times. At that time, the SOC was adjusted to 60% every 500 cycles. Then, the rate of increase in resistance was calculated from the IV resistance (the initial resistance of the battery) before the charge / discharge cycle test and the IV resistance after the charge / discharge cycle test. Here, the IV resistance before and after the charging / discharging cycle was measured by measuring the current obtained by charging the battery at SOC 60% and performing charging treatment at 1C, 3C, and 5C for 10 seconds respectively in an environment of 25 ° C. The voltage drop value ΔV, which is a value obtained by subtracting the voltage value at the time of 10 seconds from the initial voltage value, is plotted on the vertical axis, and the value is obtained from the slope. The rate of increase in resistance (%) was determined by [IV resistance after charge / discharge cycle test / IV resistance before charge / discharge cycle test]. The results are shown in Table 1.
As shown in Table 1, in the batteries according to Samples 1 and 2, the SP value of the binder included in the end portion of the filler layer is larger than the SP value of the binder included in the intermediate portion (that is, swelling with respect to the nonaqueous electrolyte solution). High degree). The batteries of Samples 1 and 2 had a lower resistance increase rate after the high-rate charge / discharge test than Samples 3 and 4, and were excellent in durability. In the batteries of Samples 1 and 2, the end of the filler layer swells in the electrolytic solution, which makes it difficult for the nonaqueous electrolytic solution to be discharged to the outside of the electrode body. In addition, the battery of sample 1 was more durable than sample 2. In the battery according to Sample 2, since the end portion of the highly swelled binder is also applied to the electrode facing portion of the separator sheet, the pressure is different between the central portion and both end portions of the wound electrode body after swelling ( Unevenness occurs). Therefore, although the discharge of the electrolytic solution was suppressed, the deterioration due to the reaction unevenness occurred, so that the resistance increase suppressing effect was assumed to be lower than that of the sample 1. From this result, it is preferable that the high-swelling binder end portions E1 and E2 are located in the
