Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a fixing device that fixes a toner image onto a transfer material, and an image forming apparatus including the fixing device.
2. Description of the Related Art Conventionally, an electrophotographic image forming apparatus transfers a toner image formed on the surface of an image carrier onto a transfer material such as paper, and then fixes the toner image on the transfer material by a fixing device. In recent years, as environmental problems are attracting attention, image forming apparatuses are also required to save resources and energy, and improvement of the durability of fixing devices is being tackled as an issue.
The fixing device includes, for example, a first fixing member and a second fixing member that is in pressure contact with the first fixing member. The transfer material passes through a fixing nip formed between the first fixing member and the second fixing member, so that the toner image is fixed to the transfer material.
As a fixing device system, there are a roller fixing system in which the first fixing member and the second fixing member are configured by rollers, and a belt fixing system in which at least one of the first fixing member or the second fixing member is configured by a belt. . Further, as a heat source used in the fixing device, there are a halogen heater, an IH coil (Induction Heating Coil), and the like.
In such a fixing device, it remains on the transfer material after the transfer of the toner image or the influence of friction between the surface layer of the first fixing member or the second fixing member (hereinafter, abbreviated as “each fixing member”) and the transfer material. Due to the influence of electric charge, the surface layer of each fixing member may be charged with a polarity opposite to that of the toner. When such a situation occurs, a phenomenon in which a part of the toner on the transfer material is transferred to the surface layer of each fixing member and then reattached to the transfer material (so-called “electrostatic offset”) occurs, and the image quality deteriorates. There is a fear.
Therefore, there is a configuration in which charging of each fixing member is prevented by making each fixing member conductive and grounding (see, for example, Patent Documents 1 and 2).
In order to make each fixing member conductive as described above, it is necessary to add a conductive filler to at least the surface layer of each fixing member. However, if the amount of the additive is increased to such an extent that each fixing member can exhibit conductivity, the surface layer of each fixing member tends to be worn, and the releasability of each fixing member tends to be lowered. As a result, when the fixing device is used for a long period of time, there is a problem that a toner component or a paper component adheres to each fixing member (so-called “filming”), and the transfer material becomes dirty or clogged. On the other hand, when the surface layer of each fixing member is made insulative, there is a problem that charges accumulated in each fixing member leak to the peripheral members and an abnormal image or the like is induced.
In view of the above circumstances, an object of the present invention is to prevent the occurrence of electrostatic offset to realize high image quality and improve the durability of the fixing device.
The image forming apparatus of the present invention includes a first fixing member having a surface layer formed of an insulating material, a second fixing member that presses against the first fixing member to form a fixing nip, and the first fixing member. A switching unit that switches between a grounded state and a non-grounded state, and the switching unit moves the first fixing member from the grounded state to the ungrounded state in conjunction with a transfer material entering the fixing nip. The first fixing member is switched from the non-grounding state to the grounding state in conjunction with the transfer material being discharged from the fixing nip.
By forming the surface layer of the first fixing member with an insulating material as described above, it is possible to suppress wear of the surface layer of the first fixing member and to prevent the releasability of the first fixing member from being lowered. Can do. Accordingly, the durability of the fixing device can be improved. In addition, since the wear of the surface layer of the first fixing member can be suppressed as described above, filming hardly occurs even when the fixing device is used for a long period of time, and the transfer material is prevented from being soiled or clogged. Is possible.
Further, the surface layer of the first fixing member is formed of an insulating material as described above by switching the first fixing member from the grounded state to the non-grounded state in conjunction with the transfer material entering the fixing nip. However, electrostatic offset is less likely to occur, and high image quality can be realized.
Further, the charge accumulated in the first fixing member can be discharged by switching the first fixing member from the non-ground state to the ground state in conjunction with the transfer material being discharged from the fixing nip. Therefore, it is possible to suppress the excessive accumulation of charges on the first fixing member and to prevent the charges accumulated on the first fixing member from leaking to the peripheral members. In connection with this, generation | occurrence | production of an abnormal image etc. can be suppressed and the further image quality improvement can be aimed at.
The first fixing member may have a larger capacitance than the second fixing member.
By adopting such a configuration, the fixing member having the larger capacitance can be switched between the grounded state and the non-grounded state, and accordingly, the generation of electrostatic offset is more effectively performed. It becomes possible to prevent.
The fixing device of the present invention may further include a Zener diode connected to the first fixing member.
By adopting such a configuration, it becomes possible to hold the electric charge in the Zener diode, and thus it is possible to more effectively prevent the occurrence of electrostatic offset.
The switching unit may switch the first fixing member from the grounded state to the non-grounded state immediately before the transfer material enters the fixing nip.
By adopting such a configuration, it becomes easier to prevent electrostatic offset as compared with the case where the first fixing member is switched from the grounded state to the non-grounded state after the transfer material enters the fixing nip.
The second fixing member may be grounded, and the surface layer may be formed of an insulating material.
Since the second fixing member is grounded as described above, the electric charge accumulated in the second fixing member can be discharged at any time. Therefore, it is possible to prevent the electric charge accumulated in the second fixing member from leaking to the peripheral member, and it is possible to further improve the image quality by suppressing the occurrence of an abnormal image or the like. In addition, by forming the surface layer of the second fixing member with an insulating material as described above, it is possible to suppress wear of the surface layer of the second fixing member and to prevent deterioration of the releasability of the second fixing member. can do. Accordingly, the durability of the fixing device can be further improved.
The first fixing member may be a heating roller, and the second fixing member may be a pressure roller.
By adopting such a configuration, it is possible to form the fixing nip using a simple configuration.
The image forming apparatus of the present invention includes any one of the fixing devices described above.
According to the present invention, it is possible to prevent the occurrence of electrostatic offset and achieve high image quality and improve the durability of the fixing device.

When the printer 1 is turned on, various parameters are initialized, and initial setting such as temperature setting of the fixing

Next, a control system for the fixing

An operation (hereinafter referred to as “fixing operation”) for fixing a toner image on a sheet in the fixing
When the print signal is transmitted to the
Next, in the fixing
In a state before the fixing operation is performed in the fixing device 16 (for example, a warm-up state), the
As described above, when the
On the other hand, if the
When the printer 1 is used in a high humidity environment, an offset due to a reverse current tends to occur at the timing when the transfer voltage is turned off. However, by making the
In the present embodiment, the
Also, immediately before the sheet enters the fixing nip 40, the
Further, the
Moreover, since the
The
In this embodiment, the case where the transfer nip 25 is formed between the photosensitive drum 7 and the
In this embodiment, the
In this embodiment, the
In the present embodiment, the
In this embodiment, the case where the configuration of the present invention is applied to the printer 1 has been described. However, in another different embodiment, the configuration of the present invention is applied to other image forming apparatuses such as a copying machine, a facsimile machine, and a multifunction machine. It is also possible.
<Second Embodiment>
Next, a fixing device 50 according to a second embodiment of the present invention will be described with reference to FIG. In addition, about the part which has the structure similar to 1st Embodiment, the same referential mark as 1st Embodiment is attached | subjected to FIG. 5, and description is abbreviate | omitted.
The
In the fixing device 50 configured as described above, when the sheet is in a state immediately before entering the fixing nip 40, the
