Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a planar illumination device used as illumination means such as a liquid crystal display device.
Nowadays, liquid crystal display devices are generally used as display devices for electronic devices such as personal computers and mobile phones. Since liquid crystal is not a self-luminous display element, for example, in a transmissive liquid crystal display device, illumination means for irradiating light to the liquid crystal panel is essential, and a transflective liquid crystal display device using external light However, auxiliary lighting means are provided to enable use in the dark. As an illumination means for such a liquid crystal display device, a planar illumination device is widely used in combination with a liquid crystal display device. The planar illumination device has a light guide plate and a light source arranged on the side of the light guide plate as main components, and has an advantage that it can be easily reduced in thickness. In addition, with the recent improvement in performance of white light emitting diodes (LEDs), a planar illumination device using a white LED as a light source is generally used to further reduce the size and thickness of the planar illumination device and reduce power consumption. It is the target.
By the way, a structure including a housing frame is widely used in the planar illumination device in order to integrally hold the light guide plate and the light source and to improve the rigidity of the planar illumination device itself. The housing frame has a frame shape, and houses the light guide plate and the light source in the frame-shaped inner region. In addition, a housing frame having a frame-shaped resin frame and a box-shaped metal frame for storing the resin frame, in which a required rigidity is secured by the metal frame has been developed (for example, patents). References 1 and 2).
However, the pursuit of reduction in thickness and weight of the planar lighting device is inevitable in application to a display device of a portable electronic device, and these problems are secured while using a housing to secure necessary rigidity. There is always a need to solve.
This invention is made | formed in view of the said subject, The place made into the objective is providing the planar illuminating device which ensured required intensity | strength, promoting further thickness reduction and weight reduction. .

(Aspect of the Invention)
The following aspects of the present invention exemplify the configuration of the present invention, and will be described separately for easy understanding of various configurations of the present invention. Each section does not limit the technical scope of the present invention, and some of the components of each section are replaced, deleted, or further while referring to the best mode for carrying out the invention. Those to which the above components are added can also be included in the technical scope of the present invention.
(1) A planar lighting device including a light guide plate and a housing frame disposed outside the light guide plate, wherein the housing frame includes a frame-shaped resin frame surrounding the light guide plate, A metal frame disposed on the outer side, and the metal frame includes a side wall portion covering an outer surface of one side portion of the resin frame and a bottom end portion of one side portion. And a floor portion that covers a range extending to the inner region where the optical plate is disposed, and each of the resin frame and the metal frame is configured with an engaging portion that has a concavo-convex shape that fits together and restricts relative movement. The locking portion includes a first locking portion for restricting relative movement in the extending direction of the side portion intersecting with one side portion of the resin frame, and relative movement in the thickness direction of the resin frame. Including a second locking portion that regulates Lighting apparatus (claim 1).
In the planar illumination device described in this section, the light guide plate and the light source are integrally held by the housing frame, and the rigidity of the planar illumination device itself is improved. The housing frame has a frame-shaped resin frame surrounding the light guide plate and a metal frame disposed outside the resin frame, and the light guide plate, the light source, and other components of the planar lighting device are positioned by the resin frame. In addition, the rigidity of the planar lighting device is ensured. Further, the metal frame covers a side wall portion of the resin frame that covers the outer surface of one side portion, and a range from the bottom end portion of the one side portion to the inner region where the light guide plate is disposed. The floor portion is included, and the side wall portion and the floor portion further improve the rigidity of the planar lighting device.
The metal frame covers at least two sides of the outer side surface of one side portion of the resin frame and the surface parallel to the main surface of the light guide plate following the outer side surface by the side wall portion and the floor portion. Since what is necessary is just what, the increase in the thickness and weight resulting from a metal frame will be suppressed as much as possible. Then, the relative movement of the resin frame and the metal frame is restricted in two intersecting directions such as the extending direction of the side part intersecting with one side part of the resin frame and the thickness direction of the resin frame. In addition, each of the resin frame and the metal frame is formed with a concave and convex portion that is fitted to each other to restrict relative movement, and the locking portion intersects one side portion of the resin frame. Including a first locking portion for restricting relative movement in the extending direction of the side portion, that is, relative movement in the surface direction of the light guide plate, and a second locking portion for restricting relative movement in the thickness direction of the resin frame. As a result, the resin frame and the metal frame are fixed.
In addition, as one side part of the resin frame, a side part related to a surface on which the LED as the light source is disposed on the side of the light guide plate is desirable from the viewpoint of more surely positioning the LED. . Moreover, it is good also as a latching | locking part being comprised in two or more side parts including the side part which cross | intersects the side part which concerns on the surface where LED is arrange | positioned as needed.

(3) In the above item (2), the planar lighting device in which the second locking portion is disposed in a positional relationship that is inside the longitudinal direction of the one side portion with respect to the first locking portion. (Claim 2).
In the planar lighting device described in this section, the second restriction portion that restricts the relative movement of the resin frame and the metal frame in the thickness direction of the resin frame is the first restriction that restricts the relative movement of the light guide plate in the surface direction. By disposing the inner side in the longitudinal direction of one side portion of the resin frame rather than the portion, the effect of preventing the sheet metal frame from falling off from the resin frame is further ensured. In particular, it is possible to effectively prevent detachment during the work of assembling the planar lighting device to the liquid crystal panel.

As shown in FIG. 3A, the
Further, as shown in FIG. 3B, the

Now, according to the embodiment of the present invention configured as described above, the following operational effects can be obtained.
In the
The
In addition, each of the
Here, the 1st latching | locking
Further, in the
In particular, the second restricting
Now, conversely to the embodiment of the present invention shown in FIG. 2, the first restricting
The reason why the direction in which the one
In consideration of the above bending factor, in the embodiment of the present invention, the second restricting
In addition, as shown in FIG. 2A, the
Further, the locking
In addition, as shown in FIG. 3A, the
More specifically, the
As shown in FIG. 3 (a), the
In addition, the
