Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a method for manufacturing a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery.
Conventionally, a flat electrode body produced by laminating and winding a pair of electrodes (positive electrode and negative electrode) formed in a sheet shape via a separator, and an abbreviation for storing the electrode body together with an electrolytic solution A nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery including a rectangular parallelepiped case is widely known.
In general, the non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery as described above has an initial charging process for performing initial charging while restraining the battery, and a battery that has undergone the initial charging process at a high temperature (for example, 60 The final product is obtained through a high-temperature aging process or the like that is stored for a predetermined period of time (for example, Patent Document 1).
However, depending on the structure of the electrode body of the nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery, a short circuit occurs at a specific position of the electrode body with a very high probability when the high temperature aging process is performed.
Below, with reference to FIGS. 8-12, the lithium ion secondary battery (henceforth a "defective battery") which produces a short circuit with a very high probability when it passes through a high temperature aging process is demonstrated.
As shown in FIG. 8, the electrode body of the defective battery is formed in a flat shape, an upper rounded portion that is a curved portion formed at the upper end portion, and a lower rounded portion that is a curved portion formed at the lower end portion, A flat portion that is continuous with the upper rounded portion and the lower rounded portion.
The electrode body of the defective battery includes a positive electrode, a negative electrode located outside the positive electrode (on the outer peripheral surface side of the electrode body), a first separator, and an outer side (outer peripheral surface of the electrode body) than the first separator and the negative electrode. And a second separator located on the side). In the electrode body of the defective battery, the outermost peripheral portion of the negative electrode is covered with at least the second separator.
In the electrode body of a defective battery, the length of each separator in the winding direction is larger than that of each electrode, and the terminal portion of each separator in the winding direction has a surplus portion that does not contact any electrode. ing. The surplus part of each separator is not located in the lower round part, but is located from the flat part to the upper round part.
As shown in FIG. 9, the electrode body of the defective battery has an upper rounded portion where the end of the surplus portion of the second separator is fixed to the middle portion in the winding direction of the second separator by a winding tape. The winding state is maintained.
Further, in the electrode body of the defective battery, in the positive electrode current collector of the positive electrode, the portion where the positive electrode mixture layer containing the positive electrode active material is not formed (hereinafter referred to as “positive electrode unsupported portion”), and the negative electrode of the negative electrode The state in which the positive electrode and the negative electrode are shifted in the winding axis direction with respect to the first separator and the second separator so that the portion of the current collector where the negative electrode mixture layer containing the negative electrode active material is not supported is exposed. Has been wound up.
In a defective battery, when a high temperature aging process is performed, a short circuit occurs at a very high probability in the following portions.
That is, it is the outermost peripheral part of the pair of electrodes and is the part located on the positive electrode unsupported part side of the upper rounded part (see the part surrounded by a circle in FIGS. 8 and 9).
As a result of examining the cause of the short circuit, the inventors have found that the surplus portion of the two separators causes the short circuit.
As shown in FIG. 10, in the electrode body of a defective battery, the negative electrode mixture layer (the upper negative electrode mixture layer in FIG. 10) formed outside the outermost peripheral portion of the negative electrode has an opposing positive electrode mixture layer. not exist.
Therefore, when the initial charging step is performed, the negative electrode mixture layer (the lower negative electrode mixture layer in FIG. 10) formed inside the outermost peripheral portion of the negative electrode on the positive electrode unsupported portion side of the electrode body of the defective battery. ) From the positive electrode mixture layer facing to the negative electrode mixture layer formed outside the outermost peripheral portion of the negative electrode, and lithium ions may be excessively desorbed from the positive electrode mixture layer. .
That is, in the positive electrode mixture layer facing the negative electrode mixture layer formed inside the outermost peripheral portion of the negative electrode, not only the negative electrode mixture layer formed inside the outermost peripheral portion of the negative electrode but also the outermost portion of the negative electrode. Lithium ions are also extracted from the negative electrode mixture layer formed outside the outer peripheral portion, and the lithium ions are excessively desorbed.
In FIG. 10, illustrations other than the outermost peripheral part of the positive electrode and the outermost peripheral part of the negative electrode are omitted for convenience of explanation.
In addition, as shown in FIG. 11, in the electrode body of the defective battery, the portion where the surplus portion of the two separators is located outside the outermost peripheral portion of the negative electrode, the surplus portion of the first separator, and the first separator Since the surplus portions of the two separators are in a laminated state, the electrolyte solution that has permeated into the surplus portions of the two separators is present outside the outermost peripheral portion of the negative electrode.
Accordingly, lithium ions wrap around from the positive electrode mixture layer facing the negative electrode mixture layer formed inside the outermost peripheral portion of the negative electrode to the negative electrode mixture layer formed outside the outermost peripheral portion of the negative electrode (see FIG. 10). ) Is promoted.
As a result, the positive electrode mixture layer from which lithium ions are excessively desorbed is locally at a high potential, and the positive electrode mixture layer becomes unstable.
In this state, when a high temperature aging process is performed, the positive electrode mixture is eluted from the unstable positive electrode mixture layer, and the metals (for example, Mn, Ni and Co) forming the positive electrode mixture are deposited on the negative electrode. As a result, a short circuit occurs with a very high probability.
Thus, it became clear that in the defective battery, the surplus portion of the two separators caused the short circuit.
However, although the portion where the surplus portion of the two separators is located in the electrode body of the defective battery is present in a portion other than the upper round portion, the short circuit hardly occurred in the portion other than the upper round portion.
In this regard, the inventors have found that restraining a defective battery has an influence in the initial charging step.
As shown in FIG. 12, in the initial charging step, the defective battery is pressed by pressing two wide surfaces of the four side surfaces of the case using a predetermined restraining device so that the electrode body is pressed. Is restrained.
Thus, since the electrode body is pressed through the case, the load applied to the electrode body changes depending on the deformation state of the case. That is, since the ease of deformation of the case varies depending on the location, the load applied to the electrode body becomes non-uniform.
The central part of the case is particularly easily deformed. Moreover, although the deformation | transformation of the lower part of a case is inhibited a little with the bottom face of a case, since a case is generally produced by drawing, it is easy to deform | transform.
However, the upper part of the case is harder to deform than the other parts because the lid is fixed by welding.
Therefore, the load applied to the electrode body by the upper part of the case is lower than the other parts.
When a load of a predetermined value or more is applied to the electrode body, the electrolyte solution is squeezed out from the separator of the electrode body, and the amount of the electrolyte solution in the portion to which the load is applied decreases. The lithium ion wraparound (see FIG. 10) from the positive electrode mixture layer facing the negative electrode mixture layer formed on the inner side to the negative electrode mixture layer formed outside the outermost peripheral portion of the negative electrode is not promoted. A short circuit does not occur even in the portion where the excess portion of the separator is located. Since the central part and the lower part of the case are easily deformed as described above, the central part and the lower part of the electrode body receive a large load from the case, and no short circuit occurs even when the surplus part of the two separators is located. .
However, as described above, the load applied to the electrode body by the upper part of the case is lower than the other parts. Therefore, the electrolyte solution is not sufficiently squeezed out from the separator at the upper part of the electrode body. There will be an extra. In particular, since the upper round portion of the electrode body is difficult to be pressed, a short circuit has occurred in the upper round portion of the electrode body.
This invention is made | formed in view of the above situations, and makes it a subject to provide the manufacturing method of the nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery which can suppress generation | occurrence | production of the short circuit in a high temperature aging process.

As shown in FIG. 5, the manufacturing process S <b> 1 includes an electrode body manufacturing process S <b> 10, a covering process S <b> 20, a storage process S <b> 30, a liquid injection process S <b> 40, an initial charging process S <b> 50, and a high temperature aging process S <b> 60.

Then, the bound intermediate product is charged.
At this time, since the covering

Further, the covering

In this way, in the coating step S20, the side end of the covering

Further, as shown in FIG. 7, the covering
In such a case, since the covering

The high temperature aging step S60 is a step of storing the intermediate product that has undergone the initial charging step S50 at a high temperature.
In the high temperature aging step S60, the intermediate product that has undergone the initial charging step S50 is restrained by the restraining device, and the intermediate product is stored at a high temperature (for example, 60 ° C. or more) for a predetermined period.
As described above, in the initial charging step S50, since the wraparound of lithium ions as described above is suppressed, the positive
Therefore, even when the high temperature aging step S60 is performed, the positive electrode active material is eluted from the positive
Therefore, the short circuit in high temperature aging process S60 can be suppressed.
In addition, as mentioned above, the
