The present invention relates to an active energy ray-curable ink composition, in particular, an inkjet ink composition. The present invention relates to providing a 1-pass curable ink that has excellent ejection characteristics when printed at a high frequency and a high ejection speed as compared with conventional ones, and is excellent in continuous discharge performance.
Conventionally, active energy ray curable ink-jet inks are often used for high-speed printing signage printers because of their quick drying properties compared to solvent types, or because they have excellent substrate adhesion, It has been developed on the corresponding flatbed printer, and the development of the composition according to the application has been promoted.
These printers are adapted to increase in size, thickness, and density by scanning the head. In recent years, head technology capable of ejecting minute droplets at a high frequency has been established with the development of head technology. With the realization of this technology, ink jet printing, which has been inferior in terms of productivity and image quality, has increased the possibility of replacing existing printing methods together with the advantages of digitization. However, in order to realize this technological innovation, it is necessary to develop an ink having a higher frequency suitability, lower viscosity, and higher sensitivity than before. Low viscosity contributes to improved landing accuracy and is a specification required for inks to obtain high definition image quality.
Document 1 proposes a UV curable inkjet ink having a low viscosity. Although this ink was able to achieve low viscosity, printing was lost when printed at a high frequency of 20 kHz, so it was not suitable for printing at a practical level.
Further, as Non-Patent Document 1, Lubrizol Co., Ltd. has studied a pigment dispersion having excellent fluidity by dispersing some pigments with a corresponding dispersion resin, and distributes technical data. Although it was confirmed that the pigment dispersion using the corresponding dispersion resin was excellent in fluidity, it was necessary to develop a formulation as an ink in order to achieve the desired low viscosity and high sensitivity.
By providing inks with low viscosity, storage stability, high frequency suitability, and excellent continuous printing stability, we aim to provide a digital printer with the same quality and high productivity as existing printing.

(Pigment dispersion)
The urethane skeleton refers to a condensed skeleton of isocyanate and alcohol. The isocyanate and alcohol to be used are not particularly limited, but in order to obtain further excellent high frequency suitability, tolylene diisocyanate (TDI) is used as the isocyanate, and propylene glycol (PPG) or ethylene glycol (PEG) is used as the alcohol. It is particularly preferred.
The pigment dispersion used in the present invention contains at least one basic resin type dispersant containing a so-called urethane block bond and a pigment as essential components.
The molecular weight of the basic resin dispersant is preferably 100,000 to 300,000 in terms of weight average molecular weight. In particular, by keeping the molecular weight of the dispersion stabilizing site appropriate, dispersion stabilization can be achieved due to steric hindrance. Furthermore, it is possible to obtain a pigment dispersion having low viscosity and storage stability by optimally designing the overall molecular weight.
The molecular weight and molecular weight distribution can be obtained by general GPC measurement. The number average molecular weight (Mn) and the weight average molecular weight (Mw) are TPCgel columns (manufactured by Tosoh Corporation), GPC equipped with RI detector (manufactured by Tosoh Corporation, HLC-8320GPC), and DMF as a developing solvent. The molecular weight in terms of polystyrene when used is shown.
Commercially available products correspond to Solsperse J100 manufactured by Lubrizol, DispersBYK161, 162, 168 and LP-N-22252 manufactured by BYK. Among these, LP-N-22252 can be used more suitably because it is synthesized in a monomer having an ethylenic double bond as a solvent.
The addition amount of the basic resin type dispersant is arbitrarily selected in order to ensure the desired stability. The fluidity of the ink is excellent when the active ingredient of the dispersion resin is 25 to 75 parts with respect to 100 parts of the pigment. Within this range, when compared with the same drop volume, the discharge speed is relatively fast and high-accuracy image drawing is possible.

(Print evaluation)
These adjusted inks consist of a discharge mechanism equipped with a Kyocera (KJ4A) head, a mechanism that transports the landed substrate at a desired speed at a conveyor section, and a single mechanism that is subsequently irradiated with a UV lamp. Printing evaluation was performed using a pass-type ink jet printer (manufactured by Tritech). The UV lamps were evaluated at two levels: Nordson's 140W / cm metal halide lamp and Integration Technology's LED lamp (385nm, 10m / sec integrated light intensity 566mw / cm2). The head temperature during ejection was uniformly set to 40 ° C. As the printing substrate, OK Topcoat Plus (manufactured by Oji Paper Co., Ltd.) was used. From the obtained printed matter, the curability and the landing accuracy were evaluated.
Curability: The degree of curing of the ultraviolet curable ink was evaluated by touch. ○ The above was regarded as a practically acceptable level.
A: No bleeding occurs even when rubbed strongly. B: Hardened, but slightly rubbed when rubbed strongly. X: Not cured. (Ink adheres to fingers)
-Landing accuracy: When a good discharge state and discharge speed cannot be obtained, the straight line drawing quality deteriorates. Bar code was printed, and the degree of variation in the horizontal line perpendicular to the printing flow was evaluated with a bar code inspection machine QC890 (manufactured by Honeywell). A and B were practically acceptable levels.
A: Level that can be read in one scan B: Level that can be read in 1-2 scan C: Level that can be read if more scans are added D: Level that can be read in multiple scan lines F: Level that almost fails to read
Examples 1 to 13 all had good dispersibility, and both initial viscosity and time-dependent viscosity showed good results. Examples 1 to 9 showed good curability because they used a dispersion resin synthesized in an ethylenically unsaturated monomer. Since Examples 1 to 13 were excellent in dispersibility, the discharge state was excellent, and the satellite and the landing accuracy were good. In Comparative Examples 1, 3, 5, and 7, the initial viscosity was slightly high, and the discharge became unstable, resulting in inferior satellite and landing accuracy. In Comparative Examples 2, 4, 6, and 8, the initial viscosity was good, but the viscosity change with time was large, and the satellite and landing accuracy were inferior.
