Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to an optical scanning device and an image forming apparatus including the optical scanning device.
An image forming unit of an electrophotographic image forming apparatus such as an electrophotographic copying machine and an electrophotographic printer has an optical scanning device that scans a photoreceptor with laser light (hereinafter referred to as a light beam). The optical scanning device scans the photoconductor with a light beam modulated according to image information, and forms an electrostatic latent image on the photoconductor. The electrostatic latent image is developed into a toner image with a developer by a developing device. The toner image is transferred to a recording medium (hereinafter referred to as a recording material) by a transfer device. The toner image on the recording material is fixed on the recording material by a fixing device to form an image. In accordance with such an electrophotographic process, the electrophotographic image forming apparatus forms an image on a recording material.
The optical scanning device includes a semiconductor laser as a light source, a rotating polygon mirror (hereinafter referred to as a rotating polygon mirror) as a deflector (deflecting means), and optical elements such as a lens and a mirror. A galvanometer mirror can also be used as the deflector. The light beam emitted from the semiconductor laser is converted into a substantially parallel light beam by a collimator lens. The substantially parallel light beam is deflected by a rotating polygon mirror. The deflected light beam is imaged on the photosensitive member as a moving light spot by the scanning optical element. The light spot scans on the surface of the rotating photoconductor in a direction crossing the rotation direction of the photoconductor.
In the following description, the main scanning direction is a direction perpendicular to the rotation axis of the deflector. Regarding the main scanning direction, the direction of the optical axis differs between the incident optical system from the light source to the deflector and the scanning optical system from the deflector to the photoconductor. The sub-scanning direction is a direction perpendicular to the optical axis of the imaging optical system and a direction perpendicular to the main scanning direction (a direction parallel to the rotation axis (or swinging axis) of the deflector). The main scanning section is a plane including the optical axis of the scanning optical element and the main scanning direction. The sub-scan section is a plane that includes the optical axis of the scanning optical element and is perpendicular to the main scan section.
Formation of an electrostatic latent image (exposure distribution) in the sub-scanning direction is achieved by moving (rotating) the photoconductor in the sub-scanning direction for each scanning exposure in the main scanning direction.
An optical scanning device is a beam detection sensor (hereinafter referred to as a BD sensor) disposed on the upstream side in the scanning direction of an exposure area (hereinafter referred to as an image area) in which a light beam moves to form an electrostatic latent image on a photoreceptor. Said). When the BD sensor receives the light beam, the BD sensor outputs a BD signal as a horizontal synchronizing signal for making the writing position of each scan in the main scanning direction the same. When the light beam passes over the BD sensor, the BD sensor outputs a BD signal. Based on the BD signal, the image writing timing in the main scanning direction is determined.
In recent years, it has been demanded that a light beam for a BD signal be detected at a position (main scanning position) closer to the upstream end of the image area in the main scanning direction.
The optical scanning device is miniaturized by bringing the light beam detected by the BD sensor closer to the latent image forming region and narrowing the scanning range of the light beam as much as possible. By downsizing the optical scanning device, the image forming apparatus can be downsized.
Further, the image quality can be improved by bringing the light beam detected by the BD sensor closer to the latent image forming area. Recent copiers employ a light source having a plurality of light emitting units in an optical scanning device in order to achieve high resolution and high productivity. As the number of light emitting units increases, image defects may be caused by misalignment in the main scanning direction between a plurality of light beams from a plurality of light emitting units. Therefore, it is necessary to detect and correct the distance between the positions (dot positions) of a plurality of light beams with higher accuracy. In particular, when a plastic lens having a large expansion / contraction or refractive index change with respect to a temperature change is used, a positional deviation between a plurality of light beams is significantly generated.
The expansion and contraction and the refractive index change of the plastic lens due to the temperature change are more prominent near both ends than the center of the plastic lens. Therefore, it is preferable to detect the BD signal at a portion as close to the center of the plastic lens as possible. That is, in order to increase the measurement accuracy of the dot position in the main scanning direction, it is important to detect the BD signal at a position closer to the image area of the scanning optical system.
Therefore, an optical scanning device capable of adjusting the position of the BD sensor has been proposed.
As described above, in order to realize both miniaturization of the optical scanning device and high accuracy of the image forming position, it is necessary to dispose the BD sensor at a position closer to the latent image forming area in the main scanning direction. Therefore, it is necessary to dispose a mirror for guiding the light beam to the BD sensor outside the latent image forming area and in the vicinity of the end of the latent image forming area. However, according to the conventional technique, the positional relationship between the light beam passing through the end portion of the latent image forming region and the mirror in the assembled optical scanning device may deviate from the designed positional relationship. Therefore, there is a problem that the mirror blocks the light beam that scans the latent image forming region.
Therefore, the present invention provides an optical scanning device capable of easily adjusting the position of the detection unit with respect to the housing when the detection unit is attached to the housing of the optical scanning device.

According to the present invention, the detection unit of the optical scanning device includes the holding member that integrally holds the reflection member that reflects the light beam deflected by the deflector and the light receiving sensor that receives the light beam reflected by the reflection member. Prepared. Therefore, when the detection unit is attached to the housing of the optical scanning device, the position of the detection unit with respect to the housing can be easily adjusted.

FIG. 3 is a diagram for explaining the relative positional relationship between two light spots formed on the

光スポットLD−AとLD−Bが走査速度VでBDセンサ面232a上を通過するときに、図3(b)に示すように、光スポットLD−AによってBD信号BDS−Aが生成され、光スポットLD−BによってBD信号BDS−Bが生成される。
FIG. 3B is a diagram showing a change in voltage level of the BD signal output from the
The image writing timing by the light spot LD-A is controlled based on the timing t1 at which the rising RE-A of the BD signal BDS-A generated by the light spot LD-A and the threshold value Vth intersect. Further, the image writing timing by the light spot LD-B is controlled based on the timing t2 at which the rising edge RE-B of the BD signal BDS-B generated by the light spot LD-B and the threshold value Vth intersect.
There is a time difference Δt between the BD signal BDS-A generated by the light spot LD-A and the BD signal BDS-B generated by the light spot LD-B. The time difference Δt is a difference between the timing t1 of the BD signal BDS-A generated by the light spot LD-A and the timing t2 of the BD signal BDS-B generated by the light spot LD-B. A distance L between the light spot LD-A and the light spot LD-B is obtained from the time difference Δt.

On the other hand, FIG. 4B shows a case where the light beam EB corresponding to the image end on the writing start side of the image area IA is shifted by ΔS from the nominal position NP near the

In order to increase the measurement accuracy of the dot position in the main scanning direction Y, it is important to detect the light beam at a position (main scanning position) closer to the upstream end of the image area IA in the main scanning direction Y of the scanning optical system. It is. Therefore, the
In the present embodiment, the

In order to adjust the position of the

In this embodiment, the
As shown in FIG. 5B, the light beam EB passing through the image start side image end portion of the image area IA passes through the nominal position NP that is separated from the

When the apparatus is assembled, the signals shown in FIG. 8 are synthesized, and the position of the

At the determined position, the
The
For example, as shown in FIG. 6A, when the light beam EB is upstream of the nominal position NP with respect to the
In addition, as shown in FIG. 7A, when the light beam EB is on the downstream side in the main scanning direction Y from the nominal position NP with respect to the
According to the present embodiment, the distance (clearance) between the light beam EB and the
