Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to an electrode, a manufacturing method thereof, and a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery using the electrode. More specifically, the present invention relates to an electrode used for a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery containing an overcharge preventing additive in an electrolyte and a method for producing the same.
In recent years, lithium-ion secondary batteries, nickel-metal hydride batteries, and other secondary batteries have become increasingly important as power sources mounted on vehicles that use electricity as power sources, or power supplies mounted on personal computers, mobile terminals, and other electrical products. ing. In one typical configuration of this type of secondary battery, positive and negative electrodes including an electrode active material layer including an electrode active material capable of reversibly occluding and releasing charge carriers are housed in a battery case together with an electrolyte. ing.
Such a secondary battery is normally used in a state where the voltage is controlled to fall within a predetermined region of, for example, about 3.0V to 4.2V, but when the battery is out of the normal state due to various factors. There is a possibility that the voltage deviates from a predetermined region and falls into an overcharge state. In this overcharged state, problems such as decomposition of the electrolyte solution and generation of gas in the battery case, or heating of the electrode active material and increase of the temperature inside the battery may occur. Therefore, for the purpose of preventing such a problem in advance, it has been proposed to include a mechanism (current interruption mechanism: CID) that detects an overcharge state based on battery temperature, battery internal pressure, etc., and interrupts the current (for example, Patent Document 1).
In secondary batteries equipped with a CID of the type that operates by increasing the internal pressure of the battery, an overcharge prevention additive such as cyclohexylbenzene (CHB) or biphenyl (BP) is added to the electrolyte in order to operate the CID more quickly during overcharge. An agent is added in advance. This overcharge prevention additive has a lower oxidation potential than the electrolyte solvent (that is, the voltage at which the oxidative decomposition reaction starts), and can be rapidly oxidatively decomposed on the positive electrode surface prior to the electrolyte during overcharge. Due to this oxidative decomposition reaction at the positive electrode, a large amount of gas is generated at the negative electrode, so that the pressure in the battery can be quickly increased and the CID can be operated at an earlier stage. That is, according to such a configuration, it is possible to stop the electrode reaction in the battery in a safer state.
By the way, the positive electrode active material is inferior in conductivity as compared with graphite or the like that is generally used as a negative electrode active material, and therefore the presence of a conductive material that supplements the conductivity of the positive electrode active material in the positive electrode active material layer is indispensable. It has become. However, for example, when a positive electrode active material having a relatively low surface electron conductivity is used, even if a conductive material is present, the positive electrode active material cannot be said to have sufficient conductivity. Therefore, for example, in an electrode reaction performed on the surface of the positive electrode active material, a good reaction interface cannot be formed between the positive electrode active material, the conductive material, and the reactive material (typically, the electrolyte component). For example, in an overcharged state, the oxidative decomposition reaction at the positive electrode of the overcharge preventing additive that is an electrolyte component is difficult to proceed, and the amount of gas generated is reduced. Therefore, it takes time until the CID operates, and there is a possibility that it is difficult to cut off the current in the battery in a safe state. In particular, it is conceivable that such a tendency becomes remarkable in an electrode in which the porosity of the positive electrode active material layer is set relatively high.
The present invention has been created in view of such a conventional situation, and the object of the present invention is that, for example, the porosity of the electrode active material layer is relatively high or the electron conductivity of the surface of the electrode active material is low. Even if it is low, it is providing the electrode in which the reactivity of an electrode active material, a electrically conductive material, and an electrolyte component is improved efficiently, and its manufacturing method. Another object is to provide a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery including this electrode.
The electrode disclosed here includes an electrode active material layer including an electrode active material, a conductive material, and a binder. In such an electrode, at least a part of the surface of the electrode active material is covered with a mixture of a fine conductive material having an average primary particle size of 20 nm to 200 nm and a high molecular weight binder having an average molecular weight of 1,000,000 to 5,000,000. Has been. The coated electrode active material is a mixture of an anisotropic conductive material having an average primary particle size of 1 μm to 30 μm and shape anisotropy and a low molecular weight binder having an average molecular weight of 10,000 to 300,000. Thus, the electrode active material layers are formed by being bonded to each other.
That is, in the electrode disclosed herein, the electrode active material layer includes a mixture in which two kinds of conductive materials and a binder are combined in a specific combination together with the electrode active material.
The mixture composed of the first conductive material and the binder is disposed on at least a part of the surface of the electrode active material, and the electrode active material is held in the binder by holding the electrolyte component supplied from the outside when the electrode is used. A good reaction interface is formed in the three phases of the conductive material and the electrolyte component. That is, the conductive material has a smaller particle size and a large specific surface area, and improves the electron supply property (electron extraction property from the positive electrode) at the three-phase interface between the electrode active material, the conductive material, and the electrolyte component, and is reactive. It has the function to improve more. In addition, the high molecular weight binder has excellent adhesion and is rich in swelling property, and the electrolyte component can be included in the gap, thereby improving the wettability of the electrode active material and ensuring that the electrolyte component is present at the above three-phase interface. I am doing so.
The mixture composed of the combination of the second conductive material and the binder is disposed between the electrode active materials and appropriately forms voids between the electrode active materials. That is, the conductive material has a shape anisotropy having a larger particle size, and a column for ensuring a gap between the electrode active materials while ensuring conductivity between the coated electrode active materials. It plays a role like a material or a spacer. In addition, since the low molecular weight binder has a relatively low swellability and does not easily impair the conductivity between the electrode active materials, the electrode resistance (for example, evaluation can be made by penetration resistance, which is resistance in the thickness direction of the electrode). Can be reduced.
This improves the reactivity of the surface of the electrode active material because it has a good three-phase interface between the electrode active material, the conductive material and the electrolyte component, and ensures an appropriate porosity in the electrode active material layer. Therefore, an electrode with low electrode resistance is realized.
Patent Document 2 discloses positive electrode active material particles in which voids included in secondary particles of the positive electrode active material are impregnated with a polymer having a degree of swelling of 50% or more with respect to the nonaqueous electrolytic solution. . Moreover, said patent document 3 is using the scaly graphite and granular carbon as a electrically conductive material used for an electrode. However, in these Patent Documents 2 and 3, the characteristic electrode structure of the present invention in which two kinds of mixtures composed of a combination of a conductive material and a binder are arranged between the surface of the electrode active material and the electrode active material. Nothing is disclosed.
In a preferred embodiment of the electrode disclosed herein, the electrode active material is a lithium transition metal composite oxide containing nickel, cobalt, and manganese, and the electrode is a positive electrode including a positive electrode active material layer. It is said. A so-called ternary lithium transition metal composite oxide has a large capacity as compared with other lithium composite oxides, but has low surface electronic conductivity and low wettability to an electrolytic solution. However, when such a configuration is applied, the electron conductivity of the surface and the wettability with respect to the electrolytic solution are improved, so that an electrode having a good three-phase reaction interface with a high capacity is realized.

Thereby, the reactivity in the surface of an electrode active material can be improved more.
In a preferred embodiment of the electrode disclosed herein, the anisotropic conductive material is graphite. Graphite has an atomic structure in which graphene layers are stacked and has excellent electronic conductivity. In addition, many have shape anisotropy whose shape is developed in the direction of the graphene layer, and its strength is stable. Therefore, by using graphite as the anisotropic conductive material, the conductive path is secured between the electrode active material layers of the electrode active material layer, and appropriate voids are formed, so that the above structure can be maintained for a long time. Can be provided.
In a preferred embodiment of the electrode disclosed herein, the anisotropic conductive material has an aspect ratio of 2 to 10. By setting the aspect ratio of the anisotropic conductive material within such a range, the porosity in the electrode active material layer can be secured to an arbitrary value, and can be easily adjusted. For example, an electrode active material layer having a porosity of 25% or more can be easily realized.
In a preferred embodiment of the electrode disclosed herein, the electrode active material layer has a porosity of 25% or more. The electrode resistance can be reduced by increasing the porosity of the electrode active material layer. Further, setting the porosity to 25% or more is effective for improving high-rate durability. However, in a general electrode, when such a porosity is realized, the electrolytic solution exists only in the void portion, and the liquid around the surface of the electrode active material is not good. On the other hand, the electrode disclosed here comprises two types of mixtures, and is designed and arranged so as to have different functions around the electrode active material to constitute the electrode. Therefore, by setting the porosity to 25% or more (typically about 28% or more and 40% or less), an electrode having low resistance, excellent high-rate durability, and excellent reactivity at the three-phase interface is obtained. Can be realized.
In a preferred embodiment of the electrode disclosed herein, the high molecular weight binder is in an amorphous state, and the low molecular weight binder is in a crystalline state. In the above electrode configuration, only the low molecular weight binder is crystallized to have an appropriate hardness and spring property, so that an electrolyte component is secured on the surface of the electrode active material by the high molecular weight binder, and between the electrode active materials. In the voids, the void structure can be maintained for a long time without excessively impregnating the electrolyte component. Thereby, it becomes possible to add long-term durability to said electrode.
In a preferable embodiment of the electrode disclosed herein, the anisotropic conductive material is 1 to 10 parts by mass and the high molecular weight binder is 0.1 to 5 parts by mass with respect to 100 parts by mass of the electrode active material. The conductive conductive material is blended at a ratio of 1 to 10 parts by mass, and the low molecular weight binder is blended at a ratio of 0.1 to 3 parts by mass. According to such a configuration, the mixing ratio of the electrode active material and the two kinds of the above mixture becomes appropriate, and the above effect can be obtained more suitably.
In a preferred embodiment of the electrode disclosed herein, the penetration resistance measured in the thickness direction of the electrode active material layer is 100 mΩ / 5 cm 2 or less (typically 50 to 100 mΩ / 5 cm 2 ). It is said. By providing the configuration as described above, the contact resistance between the electrode active material and the conductive material is reduced, and the penetration resistance, which is the resistance value in the direction perpendicular to the substrate of the electrode (thickness direction), is reduced. be able to.
In this specification, the penetration resistance of the electrode is the resistance in the actual area of the electrode active material layer from the voltage when the electrode active material layer is sandwiched between the conductive plates and current is applied while pressing from above and below the conductive plate. It can be calculated as a value. For example, two electrodes having an electrode active material layer cut out to a predetermined area (for example, 5 cm 2 ) are prepared on a current collector, and the electrode active material layers are brought into contact with each other to overlap each other. The resistance can be calculated from the voltage value when a current is passed while being pressurized with a predetermined pressure (for example, 2000 N) from the outside of the wire, and can be used as a penetration resistance.
The nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery provided by the present invention in another aspect includes a positive electrode, a negative electrode, and a nonaqueous electrolyte. Then, any one of the above electrodes is provided as at least one of the positive electrode and the negative electrode. In the above electrode, the electrode active material is covered and supported by a mixture composed of a combination of two kinds of conductive materials and a binder. Therefore, an interface composed of the three phases of the electrode active material, the conductive material and the electrolyte component is well formed, and appropriate gaps are secured between the respective electrode active materials. Therefore, for example, it is possible to realize a non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery that is excellent in high rate characteristics and has enhanced reactivity on the surface of the electrode.
In a preferred embodiment of the nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery disclosed herein, the battery further includes a current interrupt mechanism capable of interrupting a conductive path between the positive electrode and the negative electrode according to an internal pressure in the battery, and at least the positive electrode As described above, the non-aqueous electrolyte includes any of the electrodes described above, and the nonaqueous electrolyte includes an overcharge prevention additive having a function of generating gas by being oxidatively decomposed in the positive electrode, and is generated by the overcharge prevention additive. The internal pressure in the battery is increased by the gas to be discharged, and the current interrupt mechanism can interrupt the conductive path. According to this configuration, when the battery is overcharged, the oxidative decomposition reaction of the overcharge prevention additive on the electrolyte surface is promoted. Therefore, gas is rapidly generated in the battery along with the oxidative decomposition reaction of the positive electrode, and the current interrupting mechanism can be operated at an earlier stage. Thereby, a safer and more reliable non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery is realized.
In this way, by applying the configuration disclosed herein to, for example, a lithium secondary battery having characteristics such as high energy density, the secondary battery can be further improved in its original characteristics. The type of the vehicle is not particularly limited, but typically, it is preferably a hybrid vehicle (HV), a plug-in hybrid vehicle (PHV), or the like that requires high rate characteristics over a long period of time. Here, the non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery may be used alone, or may be used in the form of an assembled battery that is connected in series and / or in parallel.

According to such a configuration, even when a ternary lithium transition metal composite oxide is used as the positive electrode active material, the electron conductivity on the surface of the electrode active material is increased, and a more reactive electrode is manufactured. Can do.
In a preferred embodiment of the production method disclosed herein, the method further includes a step of performing a heat treatment in a temperature range lower than the crystallization temperature of the high molecular weight binder and higher than the crystallization temperature of the low molecular weight binder. Therefore, the above characteristic structure can be maintained for a long time.
In a preferred embodiment of the manufacturing method disclosed herein, an anisotropic conductive material having an aspect ratio of 2 to 10 is used as the anisotropic conductive material. With this configuration, the gap between the electrode active materials can be made wider and adjusted to an arbitrary porosity. For example, an electrode having a lower penetration resistance can be manufactured.
In a preferred embodiment of the production method disclosed herein, the porosity of the electrode active material layer is 25% or more. For example, setting the porosity to 25% or more is effective in improving the high rate characteristics. However, in such a general electrode, when such a porosity is realized, the electrolytic solution exists only in the void portion in the electrode active material layer, and the liquid around the surface of the electrode active material is inferior. On the other hand, according to the electrode disclosed here, even when the porosity is 25% or more, an electrode having excellent reactivity at the three-phase interface is manufactured while maintaining the above electrode structure. Can do.

An electrode provided by the present invention includes an electrode active material layer including an electrode active material, a conductive material, and a binder. The electrode active material is capable of reversibly occluding and releasing (typically intercalating and decalating) chemical species that serve as charge carriers in a secondary battery (for example, lithium ions in a lithium ion battery). The conductive material ensures the conductivity between the electrode active materials and forms a conductive path in the electrode active material layer. Further, typically, conductivity between the electrode active material layer and the electrode current collector holding the electrode active material layer is also ensured. The binder plays a role of binding the electrode active material and the conductive material, and also has a role of binding the electrode active material layer and the electrode current collector.
In the electrode disclosed herein, (1) at least part of the surface of the electrode active material is a fine conductive material having an average primary particle size of 20 nm to 200 nm and an average molecular weight of 1,000,000 to 5,000,000. (2) The coated electrode active material is anisotropic with an average primary particle size of 1 μm to 30 μm and anisotropy in shape The electrode active material layer is formed by being bonded to each other by a mixture of a conductive material and a low molecular weight binder having an average molecular weight of 10,000 to 300,000.
For example, the configuration and features will be described in detail by taking the case where the electrode is a positive electrode as an example. For example, FIG. 3 is a principal part sectional view schematically showing the configuration of the
In the
In the
Further, (2) the anisotropic conductive material in which the positive electrode
As described above, (1) a mixture of the fine
According to this configuration, for example, by adjusting the size and amount of the anisotropic
The electrode resistance can be effectively reduced by setting the porosity of the positive electrode
Furthermore, for example, the
The high molecular weight binder and the low molecular weight binder are usually in an amorphous state. Further, the crystallization temperature (Tc) of the high molecular weight binder and the low molecular weight binder often has a relationship of the crystallization temperature Tch of the high molecular weight binder> the crystallization temperature Tcl of the low molecular weight binder. It is also easy to select a high molecular weight binder and a low molecular weight binder so as to satisfy this relationship. For this reason, a high molecular weight binder and a low molecular weight binder are selected so as to satisfy the relationship of Tch> Tcl, and the

[Preparation process of mixture A: S10]
In step S10, a mixture A is prepared. As shown in Step S12, the material A constituting the mixture A is a positive electrode active material, a fine conductive material, and a high molecular weight binder.
The positive electrode active material may be any positive electrode active material that can be used for a desired battery (the same applies hereinafter). In the present embodiment, one type or two or more types of positive electrode active materials used in conventional lithium secondary batteries can be used without particular limitation. As such a positive electrode active material, a particulate lithium transition metal oxide is typically preferably used, and an oxide having a layered structure or an oxide having a spinel structure can be appropriately selected and used. For example, selected from a lithium nickel oxide (typically LiNiO 2 ), a lithium cobalt oxide (typically LiCoO 2 ), and a lithium manganese oxide (typically LiMn 2 O 4 ). One or more lithium transition metal oxides can be used.
Here, for example, “lithium nickel-based oxide” means an oxide having Li and Ni as constituent metal elements, as well as one or more metal elements other than Li and Ni (that is, Li and Ni). It is also meant to include composite oxides containing a transition metal element and / or a typical metal element other than the above in a proportion equal to or less than that of Ni. In addition, when 2 or more types of metal elements other than Li and Ni are included, it is made for all of them to become a ratio smaller than Ni. The metal element is selected from the group consisting of, for example, Co, Al, Mn, Cr, Fe, V, Mg, Ti, Zr, Nb, Mo, W, Cu, Zn, Ga, In, Sn, La, and Ce. Or one or more elements.
Li(LiaMnxCoyNiz)O2

In addition, for example, the general formula:
Li (Li a Mn x Co y Ni z) O 2
(A, x, y, and z in the formula satisfy a + x + y + z≈1 and xyz ≠ 0.)
A so-called ternary lithium transition metal composite oxide containing three kinds of transition metal elements of nickel, cobalt and manganese represented by the general formula:
xLi [Li 1/3 Mn 2/3 ] O 2. (1-x) LiMeO 2
(In the formula, Me is one or more transition metals, and x satisfies 0 <x <1.)
It may be a so-called solid solution type lithium-excess transition metal oxide represented by These ternary positive electrode active materials and lithium-rich positive electrode active materials have a large discharge capacity as a positive electrode active material of a lithium secondary battery, and may have relatively poor conductivity on the particle surface. This is preferable in that the configuration of the present invention can be effectively applied. Of course, these ternary positive electrode active materials and lithium-rich positive electrode active materials can also contain one or more elements selected from the group shown above.
さらに、上記正極活物質として一般式がLiMAO4(ここでMは、Fe,Co,NiおよびMnから成る群から選択される少なくとも1種の金属元素であり、Aは、P,Si,SおよびVから成る群から選択される元素である。) Further, the positive electrode active material has a general formula of LiMAO 4 (where M is at least one metal element selected from the group consisting of Fe, Co, Ni and Mn, and A is P, Si, S and And an anion selected from the group consisting of V.).
The compound which comprises such a positive electrode active material can be prepared and prepared by a well-known method, for example. For example, some raw material compounds appropriately selected according to the composition of the target positive electrode active material are mixed at a predetermined ratio, and the mixture is fired by an appropriate means. Thereby, the oxide as a compound which comprises a positive electrode active material can be prepared. In addition, the preparation method of a positive electrode active material (typically lithium transition metal oxide) itself does not characterize this invention at all.
Moreover, although there is no strict restriction | limiting about the shape of a positive electrode active material, the positive electrode active material prepared as mentioned above can be grind | pulverized, granulated, and classified by an appropriate means. For example, a lithium transition metal oxide powder substantially composed of secondary particles having an average particle size in the range of about 1 μm to 25 μm (typically about 2 μm to 15 μm) is used as the positive electrode in the technology disclosed herein. It can preferably be employed as an active material.
As the fine conductive material, various highly conductive materials having an average primary particle size of 20 nm to 200 nm can be used without any particular limitation. As the highly conductive material, for example, powdery graphite is preferable. Specifically, for example, carbon black such as acetylene black, furnace black and ketjen black, carbon powder such as graphite powder, and the like can be used. Among them, acetylene black is preferable in that it is obtained with high purity and graphitization proceeds greatly and is excellent in conductivity. In addition, it is preferable that primary particles of these fine conductive materials aggregate to form secondary particles because liquid absorbency is provided and electrolyte retention is excellent. These may be used singly or in combination of two or more. The average particle size of the fine conductive material is such that the average particle size of the primary particles is 20 nm or more and 200 nm or less. If the average particle size is smaller than 20 nm, the interface resistance increases, which is not preferable. On the other hand, when the average particle size exceeds 200 nm, the number of contacts with the positive electrode active material is decreased, which is not preferable. The average particle size is preferably in the range of 10 nm to 150 nm, and more preferably in the range of 20 nm to 100 nm.
As the high molecular weight binder, a polymer that can be dissolved or dispersed in a solvent used for kneading can be used. If the average molecular weight is 1,000,000 or more, it can be used without particular limitation, and the average molecular weight is 100. By being ten thousand or more, it is possible to obtain strong adhesion and to retain the liquid by impregnating the inside with an electrolyte. Since the ability to impregnate the electrolyte component increases as the molecular weight increases, the average molecular weight is preferably more than 1,000,000, for example, 1.1 million or more, 1.2 million or more. The upper limit of the average molecular weight of the high molecular weight binder is not particularly limited, but can be, for example, 5 million or less. If the average molecular weight exceeds 5 million, the viscosity becomes too high, and operations such as kneading become difficult, which is not preferable. The average molecular weight of the high molecular weight binder is more preferably 1 million to 3 million.
As a binder suitable when an aqueous solvent is used as a solvent, it is preferable to use a water-soluble (water-soluble) polymer material. For example, carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC), methyl cellulose (MC), cellulose acetate phthalate (CAP) ), Cellulose polymers such as hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC); polyvinyl alcohol (PVA); and the like. Further, as polymer materials that are dispersed in water (water dispersible), vinyl polymers such as polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP); polyethylene oxide (PEO), polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), tetrafluoroethylene- Fluororesin such as hexafluoropropylene copolymer (FEP), tetrafluoroethylene-perfluoroalkyl vinyl ether copolymer (PFA); vinyl acetate copolymer; styrene butadiene rubber (SBR), acrylic acid modified SBR resin ( Examples thereof include rubbers such as SBR latex).
When a solvent-based solvent is used as the solvent, a polymer such as water-insoluble polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF), polyvinylidene chloride (PVDC), or polyacrylonitrile (PAN) can be used.
Such polymers may be used alone or in combination of two or more.
The positive electrode active material, fine conductive material, and high molecular weight binder prepared above are kneaded in step S14 to obtain the mixture A shown in step S16. As the solvent, as described above, both an aqueous solvent and a solvent solvent (non-aqueous solvent) can be used. As the aqueous solvent, a composition comprising water or a mixed solvent mainly composed of water can be used. As the solvent other than water constituting the mixed solvent, one or more organic solvents (lower alcohol, lower ketone, etc.) that can be uniformly mixed with water can be appropriately selected and used. In addition, when using a solvent-type solvent, N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP) etc. can be used preferably, for example.
The kneading in step S14 is preferably a kneading in which a very small amount of solvent is added and kneaded. For such kneading, for example, it is more preferable to use a high-speed mixer or a shear mixer that provides a high mixing and stirring effect with a strong shearing force. The solid content ratio in this kneading depends on the form of the positive electrode active material and the fine conductive material, but cannot be strictly limited, but is about 65 to 75% by mass, more specifically about 68 to 73% by mass. Can be used as a guide.
The high molecular weight binder can have a relatively high adhesion. Therefore, by such mixing, the fine conductive material can be firmly coated on at least a part of the surface of the positive electrode active material with the high molecular weight binder.
[Preparation process of mixture B: S20]
In step S20, a mixture B is prepared. The material B constituting the mixture B is an anisotropic conductive material and a low molecular weight binder as shown in step S22.
The anisotropic conductive material can be used without particular limitation as long as it is various materials having high conductivity and has anisotropy of primary particles having an average particle diameter of 1 μm or more. When the average particle size is 1 μm or more, voids between the positive electrode active materials can be suitably formed. The upper limit of the average particle diameter is not particularly limited, but can be 30 μm or less as one guide. The average particle diameter of the primary particles is preferably 1 μm or more and 20 μm or less, and more preferably 2 μm to 15 μm.
Here, the “shape anisotropy” can be said to be substantially spherical particles in a strict sense. However, in the positive electrode disclosed herein, the function of the above-mentioned fine conductive material is more clearly distinguished, in order to obtain the effects such as ensuring the porosity of the positive electrode active material layer and reducing the penetration resistance The anisotropic conductive material can have an aspect ratio of 2 or more, preferably 3 or more, more preferably 5 or more. By appropriately adjusting the aspect ratio, the size and form of the void formed between the positive electrode active materials can be adjusted. The upper limit is not particularly limited, and can be appropriately determined in consideration of whether a desired void can be formed, the mixing property and handling property of the mixture B, and the like. As a rough guide, the aspect ratio can be set to, for example, 20 or less, and more realistically, 10 or less. A preferable aspect ratio of such an anisotropic conductive material is, for example, 2 to 10.
In the present specification, the “aspect ratio” means the ratio of the dimension in the short direction to the dimension in the short direction in the cross section where the shape anisotropy of the anisotropic conductive material can be observed most strongly, for example, 10 to 10 It can be understood as an average value when about 100 representative samples are examined.
As the anisotropic conductive material, it is preferable to use a graphite material having high conductivity and having a crystal structure developed in a specific direction. Specifically, for example, various graphite materials having a crystal structure in which graphene sheets are laminated, and fibrous carbon materials having a structure in which graphene sheets are developed in a fiber shape (acicular graphite materials in which a crystal structure is developed in a needle shape) Etc.) are also preferred. As a graphite material, a scaly form or a columnar form can be used. As for the fibrous graphite material, for example, the above graphene sheet is in the form of a round tube (typically single-walled or multi-walled carbon nanotubes), or the graphene sheet is actively grown in the longitudinal direction. Examples thereof include acicular graphite (needle coke). In addition to these graphite materials, for example, massive graphite (Vein Graphite) having the above shape anisotropy can be used.
As the low molecular weight binder, a polymer that can be dissolved or dispersed in a solvent used for kneading can be used, and any polymer having an average molecular weight in the range of 10,000 to 300,000 can be used without particular limitation. Typically, if the high molecular weight binder is a water-based binder, the low molecular weight binder is also a water-based binder, and if the high molecular weight binder is a solvent-based binder, the low molecular weight binder is also a solvent-based binder. Specific examples of such a polymer include use of various polymers having an average molecular weight of 10,000 to 300,000 from the group of polymers exemplified for the high molecular weight binder. Further, from the viewpoint of crystallization, for example, a crystalline polymer that can be brought into a crystalline state by heat treatment or the like is desirable. For example, crystalline polymers (also referred to as semicrystalline polymers) exemplified by polyamide (PA), polyethylene terephthalate (PET), polyetheretherketone (PEEK), polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) and the like. Etc.). These polymers may be used individually by 1 type, and 2 or more types may be mixed and used for them. Since the low molecular weight binder of such a positive electrode is required to support the structure of the active material layer for a long time, if it is a solvent-based binder, polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) is used. If it is a water-based binder, polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) is used. Is preferably used.
These anisotropic conductive materials and a low molecular weight binder are kneaded in step S24 to obtain a mixture B shown in step S26. The mixing in step S24 is preferably solid kneading by adding a very small amount of solvent. As the solvent, for example, N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP) can be preferably used. For such mixing, it is more preferable to use, for example, a high-speed mixer or a shear mixer that can obtain a high mixing and stirring effect with a strong shearing force. The solid content in the kneading depends on the form of the anisotropic conductive material and the like, but cannot be strictly limited, but is about 68 to 78% by mass, more specifically about 70 to 75% by mass. It can be used as a guide.
By such mixing, a very small amount of low-molecular binder can be uniformly adhered uniformly around the anisotropic conductive material.
[Preparation process of positive electrode paste: S30]
In step S30, the mixture A and the mixture B prepared above are mixed together with a solvent to prepare a positive electrode paste as shown in S34. In the present invention, the paste may include forms such as slurry and ink.
As the solvent, any of an aqueous solvent and a solvent-based solvent similar to those shown in the preparation step S10 of the mixture A can be used. In addition, the polymer material illustrated as said binder may be used in order to exhibit the function as additives, such as a thickener of a positive electrode paste other than the function as a binder. Furthermore, in addition to the material constituting the positive electrode active material layer, various additives such as a dispersant and a thickener may be added as necessary.
These mixture A and mixture B are mixed in step S32 to obtain the positive electrode paste shown in step S34. The mixing means in step S34 is not particularly limited, and a general stirrer or the like conventionally used for preparing the positive electrode paste can be used. For example, an apparatus capable of preparing a paste called a kneader, a stirrer, a disperser, a mixer or the like can be used. However, it is not necessary to apply a shearing force to the mixing, and general mixing and stirring may be used. More preferably, the mixing is such that almost no shearing force acts. The solid content ratio in this mixing can be set to, for example, 55 to 70% by mass, more specifically about 60 to 70% by mass.
By such mixing, the mixture A and the mixture B can be uniformly dispersed in the solvent in a finely divided state. The minute mixture A has a form in which at least a part of the surface of the secondary particles (preferably primary particles) of the positive electrode active material is covered with a minute conductive material and a high molecular weight binder. The minute mixture B has a form in which a part of the surface of secondary particles (preferably primary particles) of the anisotropic conductive material is covered with a low molecular weight binder. Thereby, a positive electrode paste can be prepared.
In addition, the mixing ratio of the mixture A and the mixture B can be determined in consideration of the blending of each material in the positive electrode paste. The blending of each material in the positive electrode paste is preferably in the following range, for example, in terms of solid mass. 1 to 10 parts by mass of the fine conductive material, 0.1 to 5 parts by mass of the high molecular weight binder, 1 to 10 parts by mass of the anisotropic conductive material, and 0.1 to 10 parts by mass of the low molecular weight binder with respect to 100 parts by mass of the positive electrode active material. 1 to 3 parts by mass. By setting it as such a mixture, the ratio of the positive electrode active material, the fine conductive material and high molecular weight binder covering the positive electrode active material, and the anisotropic conductive material and low molecular weight binder that support them is suitably adjusted. More preferably, the fine conductive material is 2 to 5 parts by mass, the high molecular weight binder is 0.5 to 3 parts by mass, the anisotropic conductive material is 2 to 5 parts by mass, and the low molecular weight is 100 parts by mass of the positive electrode active material. A binder is 0.5-2 mass parts.
[Positive electrode active material layer forming step: S40]
In step S40, the positive electrode paste prepared above is supplied onto the positive electrode current collector to form a positive electrode active material layer.
As the positive electrode current collector, a metal having good conductivity, an alloy thereof, and the like similar to the current collector used for the positive electrode of the conventional lithium secondary battery can be used. For example, a metal mainly composed of copper, aluminum, nickel, titanium, iron, or the like, or an alloy thereof, and more preferably aluminum or an aluminum alloy. Various shapes can be considered for the shape of the positive electrode current collector in accordance with a desired purpose. For example, it may be a rod shape, a plate shape, a sheet shape, a foil shape, a mesh shape, or the like. For example, an aluminum sheet having a thickness of about 10 μm to 30 μm can be suitably used.
The positive electrode paste is supplied to the surface of the positive electrode current collector in step S42. This supply can be performed using various known coating and coating apparatuses. For example, the paste can be applied to one side or both sides of the current collector using a coater. The coater only needs to be able to apply the paste to the current collector. For example, a slit coater, die coater, gravure coater, roll coater, doctor blade coater, comma coater, etc. Can do. The supply of the positive electrode paste may be performed on both surfaces of the positive electrode current collector, or may be performed on either one surface. The coating amount of the positive electrode paste is not particularly limited, and can be arbitrarily set according to target electrode characteristics and the like. In general, if the coating amount is too small, it is difficult to obtain the effect of reducing or interrupting current during overcharge, and if the coating amount is too large, the electrode resistance of the positive electrode tends to increase. Therefore, for example, as an example, the basis weight is appropriately set within a range of about 3 to 50 mg / cm 2 .
Then, typically, by drying the positive electrode paste applied to the positive electrode current collector, a positive electrode active material layer can be formed on the positive electrode current collector as shown in Step S46. The drying is not particularly limited as long as it can remove excess components such as a solvent, and an appropriate drying means can be adopted as necessary. Typically, for example, an appropriate drying device such as a hot air device, various infrared devices, an electromagnetic induction device, or a microwave device, or drying promoting means such as a blower can be used.
After drying, the whole can be pressed as necessary or cut into a desired size to obtain a positive electrode having a desired thickness, porosity, and dimensions. For example, the porosity of the positive electrode active material layer can be controlled to a desired value in the range of about 25% to 40% by appropriately controlling the pressing conditions according to the composition of the positive electrode paste and the solid content ratio. . As a pressing (compression) method, for example, a conventionally known compression method such as a roll pressing method or a flat plate pressing method can be employed. In adjusting the thickness of the positive electrode active material layer, the thickness may be measured with a film thickness measuring instrument, and the press pressure may be adjusted and compressed several times until the desired thickness is obtained.
The positive electrode active material layer thus formed is obtained by removing the solvent from the positive electrode paste, and the fine mixture A and the fine mixture B are bound in a state of being uniformly dispersed. That is, between the minute mixture A, the minute mixture B supports and binds to the minute mixture A while forming voids. Thereby, the positive electrode disclosed here can be manufactured as shown to process S48.
Moreover, in the manufacturing method disclosed here, in addition to the positive electrode active material layer preparation step S40, a step S44 of further performing a heat treatment can be included. In the heat treatment step S44, the crystallization temperature of the low molecular weight binder is lower than the crystallization temperature Tch of the high molecular weight binder with respect to the current collector and the positive electrode paste applied with the positive electrode paste supplied and dried. This is a heat treatment performed in a temperature range of Tcl or higher. When the crystallization temperature Tch of the high molecular weight binder and the crystallization temperature Tcl of the low molecular weight binder cannot be clearly measured, for example, by heating to the melting start temperature of the low molecular weight binder, only the low molecular weight binder is melted. And can be suitably crystallized. By such heat treatment, the high molecular weight binder contained in the positive electrode active material layer remains in an amorphous state, and only the low molecular weight binder can be brought into a crystalline state. Thereby, the low molecular weight binder is crystallized, the swelling property is further reduced, and the spring property is expressed. Therefore, even if a repeated cycle of expansion and contraction of the positive electrode active material occurs over a long period of time, durability that can support this can be provided. Thereby, in addition to the above characteristics, a positive electrode having long-term durability is realized.

The
As the negative electrode
例えば、具体的には、LTO(チタン酸リチウム)等である。
As the negative electrode active material, one type or two or more types of materials conventionally used in lithium secondary batteries can be used without any particular limitation. For example, a carbon particle is mentioned as a suitable negative electrode active material. Carbon particles are particulate carbon materials that at least partially contain a graphite structure (layered structure), which are so-called graphitic (graphite), non-graphitizable carbonaceous (hard carbon), graphitizable Any carbon material such as a carbonaceous material (soft carbon) and a carbon material having a structure in which these are coated with amorphous carbon or the like may be suitably used. In addition to the carbon material, for example, a metal compound containing Si, Ge, Sn, Pb, Al, Ga, In, As, Sb, Bi, or the like as a constituent metal element, typically a metal oxide or the like is used. Can do. For example, specifically, LTO (lithium titanate) or the like. As for the negative electrode active material having poor electron conductivity, for example, a carbon coating is provided to cover at least a part of the surface of the metal compound according to a known method, or a conductive material is included in the negative electrode

The above materials are mixed, a paste-like composition for forming a negative electrode active material layer (hereinafter simply referred to as a negative electrode paste) is applied to the negative electrode

The non-aqueous electrolyte includes a lithium salt as a supporting salt in an organic solvent (non-aqueous solvent). A nonaqueous electrolyte that is liquid at room temperature (that is, an electrolytic solution) can be preferably used. As the lithium salt, for example, a known lithium salt conventionally used as a supporting salt for a non-aqueous electrolyte of a lithium secondary battery can be appropriately selected and used. Examples of such lithium salts include LiPF 6 , LiBF 4 , LiClO 4 , LiAsF 6 , Li (CF 3 SO 2 ) 2 N, LiCF 3 SO 3 and the like. These supporting salts can be used alone or in combination of two or more. A particularly preferred example is LiPF 6 . The non-aqueous electrolyte is preferably prepared, for example, so that the concentration of the supporting salt is within a range of 0.7 to 1.6 mol / L. As the non-aqueous solvent, an organic solvent used for a general lithium secondary battery can be appropriately selected and used. Particularly preferred non-aqueous solvents include carbonates such as ethylene carbonate (EC), dimethyl carbonate (DMC), ethyl methyl carbonate (EMC), diethyl carbonate (DEC), and propylene carbonate (PC). These organic solvents can be used alone or in combination of two or more.
Such a non-aqueous electrolyte contains an overcharge prevention additive. As an overcharge prevention additive, the oxidation potential is higher than the operating voltage of the lithium secondary battery (for example, 4.2 V or higher in the case of a lithium secondary battery that is fully charged at 4.2 V), and is oxidized at the positive electrode. Any compound that is decomposed and induces a large amount of gas generation at the negative electrode accompanying this reaction can be used without particular limitation. If the oxidation potential is close to the operating voltage of the battery, there is a risk of gradually decomposing due to a local voltage increase or the like even at the normal operating voltage. On the other hand, when the decomposition voltage exceeds 4.9 V, the oxidative decomposition of the additive There is a risk that thermal runaway may occur due to the reaction of the main component of the non-aqueous electrolyte and the electrode material before the gas generation due to. Accordingly, a lithium secondary battery that is fully charged at 4.2 V preferably has an oxidation reaction potential in the range of 4.6 V or more and 4.9 V or less. More preferably, the overcharge prevention additive is an aromatic hydrocarbon compound. Examples of such compounds include biphenyl compounds, cycloalkylbenzene compounds, alkylbenzene compounds, organic phosphorus compounds, fluorine atom-substituted aromatic compounds, carbonate compounds, cyclic carbamate compounds, and alicyclic hydrocarbons. More specifically, biphenyl (BP), alkylbiphenyl, terphenyl, 2-fluorobiphenyl, 3-fluorobiphenyl, 4-fluorobiphenyl, 4,4′-difluorobiphenyl, cyclohexylbenzene (CHB), trans-butylcyclohexyl Benzene, cyclopentylbenzene, t-butylbenzene, t-aminobenzene, o-cyclohexylfluorobenzene, p-cyclohexylfluorobenzene, tris- (t-butylphenyl) phosphate, phenyl fluoride, 4-fluorophenyl acetate, diphenyl carbonate, Examples thereof include methyl phenyl carbonate, bicterary butyl phenyl carbonate, diphenyl ether, dibenzofuran and the like. In particular, cyclohexylbenzene (CHB), cyclohexylbenzene derivatives and biphenyl (BP) are exemplified. The amount of the overcharge prevention additive used may be, for example, about 0.01 to 10% by mass, preferably about 0.1 to 5% by mass, with respect to 100% by mass of the nonaqueous electrolyte used.
The

The current interrupt
The current interrupt

Moreover, the mixture B was adjusted by adding anisotropic conductive material, the binder 2, and NMP as a solvent, and kneading. The solid content weight of the mixture B was about 72%.
Next, a positive electrode paste was prepared by adding NMP as a diluent solvent and mixing the mixture A and the mixture B. The solid content weight of the positive electrode paste was about 62%.
In the above positive electrode paste, each material is mixed in a mass ratio of 91: 3: 3: 1: positive electrode active material: micro conductive material: anisotropic conductive material: high molecular weight binder: low molecular weight binder. 2 was added.

[Measurement of average molecular weight]
For Samples 1, 4 and 5, the binder component was eluted from the positive electrode active material layer and subjected to gel permeation chromatography (GPC), and the average molecular weight of the binder used in each sample was measured. The results are shown in FIG.
[Measurement of penetration resistance]
The penetration resistance of each positive electrode of Samples 1 to 7 obtained above was measured. That is, two positive electrodes cut into a 2 cm × 2.5 cm sheet for resistance measurement are prepared, and the two positive electrodes are stacked in such a manner that the active material layers face each other and are sandwiched between current collectors. While applying a pressure of 2000 N from both sides, the resistance value (penetration resistance) in the vertical direction of the positive electrode sheet was measured from the voltage when current was passed between the current collectors from the current application device. It can be said that the smaller the resistance value in the vertical direction, the better the conductive material forms a conductive path in the thickness direction of the positive electrode active material layer, current flows more easily, voltage loss decreases, and battery performance is better. The results of measuring the penetration resistance are shown in Table 1.
[Construction of lithium secondary battery for evaluation]
Graphite as a negative electrode active material layer, SBR as a binder, and CMC as a thickener are blended at a ratio of 98: 1: 1 when the negative electrode active material: binder: thickener is used. Then, ion exchange water was added and kneaded to obtain a negative electrode paste. This negative electrode paste is applied to both sides of a copper foil as a negative electrode current collector, dried in a drying oven at 120 ° C., and then pressed, whereby the basis weight (total on both sides) is 17 mg / cm 2 and the density is 17 mg / cm 2. A negative electrode provided with an active material layer of 1.4 g / cm 3 was obtained.
The positive electrode (samples 1 to 7) and the negative electrode were laminated together with two long separators, and the laminated sheet was wound in the longitudinal direction to produce a wound electrode body. As the separator, a microporous sheet having a three-layer structure made of PP / PE / PP was used. This electrode body was housed in a rectangular outer case and a nonaqueous electrolyte was injected to construct an evaluation lithium secondary battery (samples 1 to 7). As a non-aqueous electrolyte, in a solvent in which EC, DMC and EMC were mixed at a volume ratio of 3: 4: 3, 1.0 M LiPF 6 as a lithium source and 2% by mass as an overcharge prevention additive were used. What dissolved CHB and 1 mass% BP was used.
[conditioning]
The lithium secondary battery for evaluation constructed as described above was subjected to conditioning by charging at a constant current of up to 4.1 V at a charging rate of 1.5 C and then performing high-temperature aging at 60 ° C. for 20 hours.
[Measurement of initial overcharge gas generation amount]
The lithium battery after the above conditioning is charged at a constant current up to 4.5 V at a rate of 1/5 C at room temperature (25 ° C.) and then charged at a constant voltage until the rate reaches 1/10 of the initial current value. Went. The battery charged in this way was held for 3 hours in a state where a constant voltage of 4.5 V was applied. Then, by measuring the internal pressure of the battery case before and after applying the constant voltage of 4.5 V, converting the pressure increase due to the voltage application for 3 hours into the amount of gas generated inside the container, and dividing this by the cell capacity The amount of gas generated per cell capacity was determined. The obtained results are shown in Table 1.
[Measurement of overcharge gas generation after high-temperature cycle]
The lithium secondary battery after the initial overcharge gas generation amount was measured was subjected to a cycle test in which charging and discharging were repeated in a temperature atmosphere of 60 ° C., and then the generation amount of the overcharge gas was examined again.
Specifically, in a constant temperature bath of 60 ° C., a charge / discharge cycle in which CC charging is performed up to 4.1 V at a constant current at 2 C, then CC discharging is performed up to 3.0 V at 2 C, and resting for 5 minutes is performed. Repeated continuously. Then, after the charge / discharge cycle test, the amount of gas generated per cell capacity was measured under the same conditions as the measurement of the amount of generated initial overcharge gas. The results are shown in Table 1.
[Evaluation]
From FIG. 6, it was confirmed that the binder used in Samples 1, 4 and 5 was composed of a binder having an average molecular weight shown in Table 1.
From Table 1, it can be seen that the batteries of Samples 1 to 3 having the configuration disclosed herein have significantly increased penetration resistance and initial amount of overcharge gas generation compared to the batteries of Samples 4 to 7. Furthermore, it was confirmed that a sufficient amount of gas could be generated during overcharge without substantially reducing the amount of overcharge gas generated after the cycle test.
In addition, the batteries of Samples 2 and 3 in which the low molecular weight binder was crystallized by heat treatment had a slightly lower initial gas generation amount than Sample 1, but the gas generation amount after the cycle test was maintained at a high value. It can be confirmed that the durability is improved. That is, when the low molecular weight binder is in a crystalline state, the penetration resistance is slightly increased, so that the initial gas generation amount is reduced. However, since the low molecular weight binder in the crystalline state has a spring property, the effect of repeated expansion and contraction of the active material layer accompanying the charge / discharge cycle can be mitigated, and the reaction field by the three-phase interface can be suitably obtained even after repeated cycles. It is thought that this is because it can be maintained.
As can be seen from the results of Samples 4-7, even if two conductive materials are used and the arrangement location is the same as the cells of Samples 1-3, only a low molecular weight binder is used as the binder. In the case where only a high molecular weight binder is used, the above effect cannot be obtained because the balance between the electronic conductivity and the electrolyte supply ability cannot be achieved. The same applies when the location of the low molecular weight binder and the high molecular weight binder is not appropriate. It was confirmed that the combination of two kinds of conductive materials and binders and their arrangement with respect to the active material are important.
As mentioned above, although this invention was demonstrated by suitable embodiment, such description is not a limitation matter and of course various modifications are possible.
