Abstract
【解決手段】有機発光表示装置は、有機発光素子(OLED)を駆動するための駆動トランジスタとセンシング期間の間、前記駆動トランジスタのスレッショルド電圧を検出するためのセンシングトランジスタを含む複数の画素領域が配列された有機発光パネル;及び映像信号から算出された低階調範囲の画素の個数と高階調範囲の画素の個数を比べ、その比較結果により前記センシング期間を調整する制御部とを含む。

Description
この中で、有機発光表示装置は、液晶表示装置に比べて、消費電力が低く、視野角が広く、更に軽く、輝度が高いため、次世代の表示装置として脚光を浴びている。有機発光表示装置に使用される薄膜トランジスタはアモルファスのシリコーンの結晶化を通じてポーリシリコーンで形成した半導体層により移動度を増加させることにより高速駆動を可能ならしめている。
スレッショルド電圧が補償された駆動電流は次のように表される。
I = C(VDD-Vdata)2、
ここで、”C”は常数、”VDD”は電源電圧、そして”Vdata”はデータ電圧である。
また、低階調範囲の画素の個数と高階調範囲の画素の個数の多いか、少ないかによりセンシング期間を調節してガンマにおけるムラを抑制することができる。
さらに、階調に応じてセンシングの期間を調節してムラを抑制することが可能な有機発光表示装置を提供することができる。
また、センシングの期間調節に合わせるように輝度を調節して輝度不良を防止可能な有機発光表示装置を提供することができる。
図1を参照すると、本実施形態に係る有機発光表示装置は有機発光パネル10、制御部30、電源生成部20、ガンマ電圧生成部50、スキャンドライバー40及びデータドライバー60を含む。
図4に示すように、画素領域の回路構造は四つの個別期間により駆動されることができる。
図5Aに示すように、第1期間(1)でローレベルの初期化信号(Init)とローレベルの発光信号(EM)が画素領域(P)に供給される。
図5Bに示すように、第2期間(2)でローレベルの初期化信号(Init)、ローレベルの発光信号(EM)及びローレベルのスキャン信号(Scan)が画素領域(P)に供給される。
一方、第1、第2、第3及び第5トランジスタ(T1,T2,T3,T5)がターンオンすることにより、第1ノード(N1)から第2トランジスタ(T2)、第1トランジスタ(T1)、第3トランジスタ(T3)及び第5トランジスタ(T5)を経由して第2ノード(N2)にまで接続される閉ループ構造を形成することができる。
図5Cに示すように、第3期間(3)でローレベルの初期化信号(Init)とローレベルのスキャン信号(Scan)が画素領域(P)に供給される。ローレベルの初期化信号(Init)が初期化信号ラインを通して第1トランジスタ(T1)に供給される。第1トランジスタ(T1)は初期化信号(Init)によりターンオンし、基準電圧(Vref)が第1トランジスタ(T1)を経由して有機発光素子(OLED)に供給される。
図5Dに示すように、第4期間(4)でローレベルの発光信号(EM)が画素領域(P)に供給される。
Claims (18)
- 有機発光素子(OLED)を駆動するための駆動トランジスタとセンシング期間の間、前記駆動トランジスタのスレッショルド電圧を検出するためのセンシングトランジスタを含む複数の画素領域が配列された有機発光パネルと、
映像信号から算出された低階調範囲の画素の個数と高階調範囲の画素の個数を比べ、その比較結果により前記センシング期間を調整する制御部とを含む有機発光表示装置。 - 前記比較結果に従い、複数のガンマ電圧を発生するためのガンマ基準電圧を調整する電源供給部をさらに含む請求項1に記載の有機発光表示装置。
- 前記有機発光パネルにスキャン信号を供給するスキャンドライバと、
前記複数のガンマ電圧を生成するガンマ電圧生成部と、
前記複数のガンマ電圧を利用してデータ電圧を生成してその生成されたデータ電圧を前記有機発光パネルに供給するデータドライバとを更に含む請求項1に記載の有機発光表示装置。 - 前記制御部は、
前記映像信号を基に階調別の画素の個数を含むヒストグラム信号を生成する映像分析部と、
前記ヒストグラム信号を基に低階調範囲の画素の個数と高階調範囲の画素の個数を比較して、その結果に従って前記センシング期間と前記ガンマ基準電圧を調整するための制御信号を生成する演算部と、
前記制御信号に基づき前記スキャン信号を調整するためのスキャン制御信号を生成するタイミングコントローラとを含む請求項3に記載の有機発光表示装置。 - 前記低階調範囲の画素の個数より前記高階調範囲の画素の個数が多ければ、前記センシング期間は短縮され、前記ガンマ基準電圧は第1ガンマ基準電圧に維持される請求項4に記載の有機発光表示装置。
- 前記高階調範囲の画素の個数より前記低階調範囲の画素の個数が多ければ、前記センシング期間は延長され、前記ガンマ基準電圧は前記第1ガンマ基準電圧より高い第2ガンマ基準電圧になる請求項5に記載の有機発光表示装置。
- 有機発光素子(OLED)を駆動するための駆動トランジスタとセンシング期間の間、前記駆動トランジスタのスレッショルド電圧を検出するためのセンシングトランジスタを含む複数の画素領域が配列された有機発光パネルと、
映像信号からムラ認知領域に該当する画素を検出し、前記ムラ認知領域の画素に基づき低階調の比率を算出し、前記低階調の比率により前記センシング期間を調整する制御部とを含む有機発光表示装置。 - 複数のガンマ電圧を生成するためのガンマ基準電圧を生成する電源供給部を追加に含む請求項7に記載の有機発光表示装置。
- 前記有機発光パネルにスキャン信号を供給するスキャンドライバと、
前記調節されたガンマ基準電圧に基づき前記複数のガンマ電圧を生成するガンマ電圧生成部と、
前記複数のガンマ電圧を利用してデータ電圧を生成し、生成されたデータ電圧を前記有機発光パネルに供給するデータドライバとを更に含む請求項8に記載の有機発光表示装置。 - 前記制御部は、
ムラ認知領域に該当する画素を検出する検出部と、
前記ムラ認知領域の画素に基づき階調レベルの画素の個数を含むヒストグラム信号を生成するヒストグラム生成部と、
前記ヒストグラム信号を基に前記低階調比率を算出し、前記センシング期間を調節するための制御信号及び前記ガンマ基準電圧の調節するためのガンマ制御信号を前記低階調比率によりフレーム周期に調節する演算部と、
前記制御信号に基づき前記スキャン信号を調整するためのスキャン制御信号を生成するタイミングコントローラとを含む請求項9に記載の有機発光表示装置。 - 前記フレーム周期は少なくとも4フレーム以上である請求項10に記載の有機発光表示装置。
- 前記低階調比率は低階調範囲の画素の個数を低階調範囲の画素の個数と高階調範囲の画素の個数の和で割った比率に該当する請求項10に記載の有機発光表示装置。
- 前記低階調範囲は0階調乃至63階調であり、前記高階調範囲は190階調乃至2555階調に該当する請求項12に記載の有機発光表示装置。
- 前記低階調比率によるフレーム周期内の各フレームでのセンシング期間とガンマ基準電圧は異なる請求項10記載の有機発光表示装置。
- 前記低階調比率が20%以下である場合、フレーム周期内のすべてのフレームで前記センシング期間は短縮され、前記ガンマ基準電圧は前記元来設定されたガンマ基準電圧より低くなるように調整される請求項10に記載の有機発光表示装置。
- 前記低階調比率が80%以上である場合、前記センシング期間は延長され、前記ガンマ基準電圧は前記元来設定されたガンマ基準電圧に維持される請求項10に記載の有機発光表示装置。
- 前記低階調比率が20%以上乃至80%以下である場合、フレーム周期内において、前記センシング期間は延長されるとともに前記ガンマ基準電圧が元来設定されたガンマ基準電圧であるフレームと、前記センシング期間が短縮されるとともに前記ガンマ基準電圧が元来設定されたガンマ基準電圧より低くなったフレームとが並存する請求項10に記載の有機発光表示装置。
- 前記ムラ認知領域に該当する画素が基準値以上である画素と階調の差が臨界値以下である画素を含む請求項7記載の有機発光表示装置。
