Abstract
Description
本発明は、内燃機関から排出される排ガスを浄化する排ガス浄化用触媒に関する。 The present invention relates to an exhaust gas purifying catalyst for purifying exhaust gas discharged from an internal combustion engine.
Conventionally, a three-way catalyst containing at least one of Pt (platinum), Pd (palladium), and Rh (rhodium) noble metals is often used to purify exhaust gas discharged from an internal combustion engine such as an automobile engine. (
In recent years, in order to further improve the performance of the exhaust gas purification catalyst, an exhaust gas purification catalyst in which the catalyst coat layer has a two-layer structure and Pd or Pt and Rh are separately supported has been proposed. Rather than having all the precious metal catalyst supported on one carrier layer, the catalyst coat layer is formed in a two-layered structure, with Pd or Pt separated on one layer and Rh separated on the other layer. By making it, the effect that the fall of the catalyst activity by Rh alloying with Pd or Pt is suppressed is acquired.
By the way, when the sulfur (S) component is contained in the exhaust gas, the three-way catalyst has a problem that so-called S poisoning occurs and the purification performance is lowered. That is, when sulfur components such as SOx are contained in the exhaust gas, SOx is adsorbed on the surface of the noble metal particles and forms a film on the surface of the noble metal particles, thereby inhibiting the surface adsorption of other chemical species. As a result, the purification performance of the catalyst is degraded. In particular, Pd is strongly affected by S poisoning, and the purification rate tends to deteriorate. Accordingly, a three-way catalyst for purifying exhaust gas that does not easily cause S poisoning is preferable.
従来から、S被毒を抑制するための技術が提案されている。例えば、上記触媒コート層を上下二層構造とした排ガス浄化用触媒において、S被毒に弱いPd触媒をガスが拡散し難い下層に配置し、S被毒に強いRh触媒を上層に配置することは、Pd触媒のS被毒を抑制して排ガス中のCOやHCを良好に酸化浄化するための有効な技術となり得る。 Conventionally, techniques for suppressing S poisoning have been proposed. For example, in the exhaust gas purifying catalyst having the upper and lower catalyst coat layers, the Pd catalyst that is vulnerable to S poisoning is disposed in the lower layer where gas is difficult to diffuse, and the Rh catalyst that is resistant to S poisoning is disposed in the upper layer. Can be an effective technique for satisfactorily oxidizing and purifying CO and HC in exhaust gas by suppressing S poisoning of the Pd catalyst.
However, the configuration in which the Pd catalyst is arranged in the lower layer and the Rh catalyst is arranged in the upper layer is advantageous for suppressing the S poisoning of the Pd catalyst and favorably oxidizing and purifying CO and HC in the exhaust gas, Since the Rh catalyst arranged in the upper layer is affected by S poisoning to some extent, there is a problem that the reduction and purification ability of NOx is lowered. In particular, since the amount of expensive and precious Rh used in recent years has been greatly reduced, the influence of poisoning due to sulfur components contained in the exhaust gas has become relatively significant (see FIG. 7). For this reason, it is desired to develop an exhaust gas purifying catalyst that can suitably prevent a decrease in catalytic activity due to S poisoning of the Rh catalyst in the upper layer.
本発明は、かかる事案に鑑みてなされたものであり、その主な目的は、積層構造タイプの触媒コート層を備えた排ガス浄化用触媒において、S被毒耐性がより高められた排ガス浄化用触媒を提供することである。 The present invention has been made in view of such a case, and a main object of the present invention is to provide an exhaust gas purification catalyst with a higher S poisoning resistance in an exhaust gas purification catalyst having a laminated structure type catalyst coat layer. Is to provide.

The catalyst coat layer is formed in a laminated structure having upper and lower layers having a layer closer to the substrate surface as a lower layer and a relatively far side as an upper layer. The upper layer includes Rh particles as a noble metal catalyst, and the lower layer includes Pd particles as a noble metal catalyst. The upper layer includes a granular carrier containing at least zirconia as a porous carrier on which the Rh particles are supported, and silica particles on which the Rh particles are not supported. And in the said upper layer, the content rate of the said silica particle when the sum total of the said Rh particle | grains, the said granular support | carrier, and the said silica particle is 100 mass% is at least 50 mass% (typically 50 mass%-90 mass%).
In the exhaust gas purifying catalyst having such a configuration, the Rh catalyst layer, which is the upper layer of the catalyst coat layer, has the Rh particles as the noble metal catalyst, the zirconia granular carrier on which the Rh particles are supported, and the silica particles on which the Rh particles are not supported. Is included. Rh particles are not supported on silica particles, but are selectively supported on zirconia granular carriers. Further, the zirconia granular carrier and the silica particles are not solid-solved (complexed) with each other, exist as independent particles, and are arranged in a state where both are closely mixed and coexist.
As described above, the zirconia granular carrier and the silica particles exist as independent particles, and are arranged in a state where both are closely mixed and coexist, whereby S poisoning of the Rh particles carried on the zirconia granular carrier is reduced. Effectively suppressed. Therefore, even after the endurance of the catalyst, high catalytic activity of Rh particles is exhibited, and NOx in the exhaust gas can be reduced and purified well. Furthermore, a sulfur component such as SOx in the exhaust gas is provided by disposing an Rh catalyst layer having improved S poisoning resistance by the action of the silica particles in the upper layer and a Pd catalyst layer relatively weak to S poisoning in the lower layer. Becomes difficult to diffuse in the lower Pd catalyst layer. Therefore, S poisoning of Pd particles is also effectively suppressed in the Pd catalyst layer, and high catalytic activity of the Pd particles is exhibited even after the endurance of the catalyst, so that CO and HC in the exhaust gas can be oxidized and purified satisfactorily. Therefore, according to the present invention, it is possible to provide an optimal exhaust gas purifying catalyst that improves the S poison resistance of the upper and lower two layers in a well-balanced manner and has an excellent purifying performance as compared with the prior art.
In the upper layer (Rh catalyst layer), the content of the silica particles when the total of the Rh particles, the zirconia granular carrier, and the silica particles is 100% by mass is approximately 50% by mass or more (for example, 50% by mass). -90 mass%, preferably 50 mass% -75 mass%, more preferably 60 mass% -75 mass%). According to such a configuration, since the ratio of the zirconia granular carrier and the silica particles is in an appropriate balance in the Rh catalyst layer, an appropriate amount of the zirconia granular carrier can be obtained while appropriately exhibiting the effect of improving the S poisoning resistance by the action of the silica particles. Rh particles can be supported. If the content of the silica particles is too small, the above-described effect of improving the S poisoning resistance may not be sufficiently obtained. On the other hand, if the content of the silica particles is too large, the content of the zirconia granular carrier is relatively high. Since the amount of Rh particles that can be lowered and reduced is reduced, the catalytic activity obtained by the Rh particles may be insufficient, and the purification performance of the exhaust gas purification catalyst may tend to be reduced.
In a preferred aspect of the exhaust gas purifying catalyst disclosed herein, the lower layer includes a zirconia granular carrier containing at least zirconia as a porous carrier on which the Pd particles are supported, and silica particles on which the Pd particles are not supported. It has. By providing such a lower layer (Pd catalyst layer) in combination with the Rh catalyst layer as described above, S poisoning of Pd particles can be more effectively suppressed. Therefore, in combination with the above-described effects, higher purification performance (particularly oxidation purification capability) can be reliably exhibited.
Preferably, in the lower layer (Pd catalyst layer), the content of the silica particles when the total of the Pd particles, the zirconia granular carrier, and the silica particles is 100% by mass is approximately 5% by mass to 50% by mass. %, Preferably 25% by mass or more and less than 50% by mass. According to such a configuration, since the ratio of zirconia particles to silica particles is in an appropriate balance in the Pd catalyst layer, an appropriate amount of Pd is added to the zirconia granular carrier while appropriately exhibiting the effect of improving S poisoning resistance by the action of the silica particles. Particles can be supported. If the content of the silica particles is too small, the above-described effect of improving the S poisoning resistance may not be sufficiently obtained. On the other hand, if the content of the silica particles is too large, the content of the zirconia granular carrier is relatively high. Since the amount of Pd particles that can be supported is reduced, the catalytic activity obtained by the Pd particles becomes insufficient, and the purification performance of the exhaust gas purification catalyst tends to be lowered.
In a preferred aspect of the exhaust gas purifying catalyst disclosed herein, the zirconia granular carrier and the silica particles are provided separately in the upper layer, and are grasped by observation with a scanning electron microscope (SEM). More than 50% by number of the silica particles in the upper layer are arranged in contact with the zirconia granular carrier. When the zirconia granular carrier and the silica particles are dissolved (composited), the interaction between the zirconia granular carrier and the Rh particles is weakened, so that Rh sintering may occur when exposed to high temperatures. There is. On the other hand, according to the said structure, since a zirconia granular support | carrier and a silica particle are arrange | positioned as a different body, even if it exposes to high temperature, the sintering of Rh can be suppressed and high dispersion | distribution can be maintained. Further, when 50% by number or more of the silica particles are arranged in contact with the zirconia granular carrier, the sulfur component is hardly adsorbed on the zirconia granular carrier at the contact interface between the silica particles and the zirconia granular carrier. This effectively prevents S poisoning of the Rh particles present at the contact interface, and the high catalytic activity of the Rh particles can be maintained even after the endurance of the catalyst.
Preferably, the average particle diameter based on the laser scattering method of the silica particles is smaller than the average particle diameter based on the laser scattering method of the zirconia granular carrier. According to such a configuration, when the silica particles and the zirconia granular carrier are physically mixed, the periphery of the zirconia granular carrier having a large particle diameter is surrounded by the silica particles having a small particle diameter. As a result, the number of contact points (coordination number) between the zirconia granular carrier and the silica particles increases, and the sulfur component becomes difficult to be adsorbed by the zirconia granular carrier, so that S poisoning of Rh particles can be more effectively prevented. Therefore, it is possible to reliably exhibit better purification performance.
ここに開示される排ガス浄化用触媒の好ましい一態様では、前記上層において前記Rh粒子と前記ジルコニア粒状担体と前記シリカ粒子との合計を100質量%としたときの前記Rh粒子の含有率が、0.1質量%〜3質量%である。Rh粒子の含有率が上記範囲であると、Rh粒子による十分な触媒効果が得られるとともに、コスト面で過度な負担がないため望ましい。 In a preferred embodiment of the exhaust gas purifying catalyst disclosed herein, the content of the Rh particles when the total of the Rh particles, the zirconia granular carrier and the silica particles in the upper layer is 100% by mass is 0. .1% by mass to 3% by mass. It is desirable for the content of Rh particles to be in the above range because a sufficient catalytic effect can be obtained with Rh particles and there is no excessive burden in terms of cost.

ここで開示される排ガス浄化用触媒は、基材と、該基材の表面に形成された多孔質担体からなる触媒コート層と、該触媒コート層の多孔質担体に担持された貴金属触媒とからなり、上記触媒コート層は積層構造に形成されている。 The exhaust gas-purifying catalyst disclosed herein includes a base material, a catalyst coat layer formed of a porous support formed on the surface of the base material, and a noble metal catalyst supported on the porous support of the catalyst coat layer.

In carrying out the present invention, in the exhaust

The carrier of the
<Particle size of zirconia granular carrier>
The shape (outer shape) of the zirconia granular carrier is not particularly limited, but a powdery one is preferably used from the viewpoint of securing a larger specific surface area. For example, the average particle size of the zirconia granular carrier (average particle size measured by laser diffraction / scattering method, or average particle size based on SEM or TEM observation; the same applies hereinafter) is preferably 8 μm or less (for example, 4 μm to 7 μm). . When the average particle size of the zirconia granular carrier is too large, the dispersibility of rhodium supported on the zirconia granular carrier tends to be lowered, and the purification performance of the catalyst is lowered. On the other hand, if the average particle size of the zirconia granular carrier is too small, the heat resistance of the carrier itself composed of the zirconia granular carrier is lowered, which is not preferable because the heat resistance characteristics of the catalyst are lowered. Therefore, it is usually preferable to use a zirconia granular carrier having an average particle diameter of about 3 μm or more (for example, 4 μm or more). The specific surface area of the zirconia particulate support (specific surface area as measured by BET method. Hereinafter the same.) Is preferably 20m 2 / g~150m 2 / g,
<Rh particle loading>
The content of the Rh particles when the total of the Rh particles, the zirconia granular carrier, and the silica particles is 100% by mass is usually 0.1% by mass to 3% by mass. It is preferable that it is mass%-1.5 mass%. If the loading amount of the Rh particles is too small, the catalytic activity obtained by the Rh particles becomes insufficient. On the other hand, if the loading amount of the Rh particles is too large, the Rh particles are liable to cause grain growth and at the same time are disadvantageous in terms of cost. is there.
上記ジルコニア粒状担体にRh粒子を担持させる方法としては特に制限されない。例えばロジウム塩(例えば硝酸塩)やロジウム錯体(例えば、テトラアンミン錯体)を含有する水溶液(Rh薬液)に上記Zr担体を含浸させた後、乾燥させ、焼成することにより調製することができる。 The method for supporting Rh particles on the zirconia granular carrier is not particularly limited. For example, it can be prepared by impregnating the Zr carrier with an aqueous solution (Rh chemical solution) containing a rhodium salt (for example, nitrate) or a rhodium complex (for example, a tetraammine complex), followed by drying and baking.

The

In the preferred technique disclosed herein, the
In the
ここに開示される排ガス浄化用触媒の好ましい一態様では、上層(Rh触媒層)40の厚さ(平均厚さをいい、より好ましくは上層全体の80%以上(特には90%以上)が当該範囲内にあることをいう。以下同じ。)が、10μm以上60μm以下、好ましくは30μm以上60μm以下である。また、下層(Pd触媒層)50の厚さが、10μm以上80μm以下、好ましくは30μm以上60μm以下である。 In a preferred embodiment of the exhaust gas-purifying catalyst disclosed herein, the thickness (mean thickness) of the upper layer (Rh catalyst layer) 40 is more preferably 80% or more (particularly 90% or more) of the entire upper layer. It is within the range. The same shall apply hereinafter.) Is from 10 μm to 60 μm, preferably from 30 μm to 60 μm. Further, the thickness of the lower layer (Pd catalyst layer) 50 is 10 μm or more and 80 μm or less, preferably 30 μm or more and 60 μm or less.
次に、本実施形態に係る触媒コート層30の形成方法について説明する。
Next, a method for forming the
触媒コート層30は、ジルコニア粒状担体にPd粒子を担持してなる粉末とシリカ粉末とを含むスラリーを基材20の表面にウォッシュコートすることによりPd触媒層(下層)50を形成し、さらにジルコニア粒状担体にRh粒子を担持してなる粉末とシリカ粉末とを含むスラリーをPd触媒層50の表面にウォッシュコートすることによりRh触媒層(上層)40を形成するとよい。
The
In the process of forming the
基材20の表面にウォッシュコートされたスラリーの乾燥条件は基材または担体の形状及び寸法により左右されるが、典型的には80〜120℃程度(例えば100〜110℃)で1〜10時間程度であり、焼成条件は、約400〜1000℃程度(例えば500〜700℃)で約2〜4時間程度である。
The drying condition of the slurry coated on the surface of the

<Catalyst activity evaluation>
For the catalyst samples according to Examples 1 to 8 obtained above, the catalytic activity was evaluated before, during and after the treatment of S poisoning.
(1) No S poisoning treatment For each of the adjusted catalyst samples, using a fixed bed instinct apparatus, gas was passed through the catalyst pellets under the following conditions, and the NOx purification rate (catalytic activity) was measured.
Catalyst pellets: 3.0g
Floor temperature: 400 ° C
Gas flow rate: 15L / min

That is, it was carried out under stoichiometric conditions at 400 ° C., which is a typical operating temperature range of the underfloor catalyst.
(2) During S poisoning treatment Measurement of the purification rate (catalytic activity) at the time when 50 ppm of SO 2 gas was introduced into the evaluation condition of (1) above and the catalyst sample was exposed to a reaction gas containing SO 2 for 1.5 hours. did.
(3) After S poisoning treatment After the treatment of (2) above, the introduction of SO 2 gas was stopped, and the purification rate (catalytic activity) after 10 minutes was measured. The conditions other than stopping the introduction of SO 2 gas were unchanged.
表1に、各サンプル中のSiO2含有量と、S被毒処理なし、処理中、処理後それぞれの触媒活性の評価を示す。また、図2〜図4に、各サンプル中のSiO2含有量に対するS被毒処理なし、処理中、処理後の触媒活性の評価をそれぞれ示す。なお、図中では、SiO2を「Si」、ZrO2を「Zr」と略記した。 Table 1 shows the SiO 2 content in each sample and the evaluation of the catalytic activity of each without S poisoning treatment, during treatment, and after treatment. Moreover, in FIGS. 2-4 , the evaluation of the catalyst activity without S poisoning process with respect to SiO2 content in each sample, during a process, and a process after a process is shown, respectively. In the figure, SiO 2 is abbreviated as “Si” and ZrO 2 is abbreviated as “Zr”.
S被毒処理なしの場合、表1及び図2に示すように、RhをZrO2に担持した例1〜5に係る触媒サンプルは、98%以上という極めて高い触媒活性を発揮した。これに対し、RhをSiZrO4(ジルコニアとシリカとの固溶体)に担持させた例8は、93%とかなり劣った。この結果から、ZrO2(例1〜5)は、ジルコニアとシリカとを固溶させたSiZrO4(例8)に比べてRhをより高分散に担持し得ることが確認された。また、S被毒処理なしの触媒活性向上の観点からは、Si含有率が5質量%〜75質量%(例2〜例5)、さらには50±10質量%の範囲が好ましい(例4)。 In the case of no S poisoning treatment, as shown in Table 1 and FIG. 2, the catalyst samples according to Examples 1 to 5 in which Rh was supported on ZrO 2 exhibited extremely high catalytic activity of 98% or more. In contrast, Example 8 in which Rh was supported on SiZrO 4 (solid solution of zirconia and silica) was considerably inferior at 93%. From this result, it was confirmed that ZrO 2 (Examples 1 to 5) can carry Rh with higher dispersion than SiZrO 4 (Example 8) in which zirconia and silica are dissolved. Further, from the viewpoint of improving the catalytic activity without S poisoning treatment, the Si content is preferably 5% by mass to 75% by mass (Examples 2 to 5), and more preferably 50 ± 10% by mass (Example 4). .
In the case of S poisoning treatment, as shown in Table 1 and FIG. 3, the catalyst samples according to Examples 2 to 5 in which SiO 2 was mixed with [Rh / ZrO 2 ] exhibited a high catalytic activity of 93% or more. . Particularly in Examples 4 and 5 in which the Si content was 50% by mass or more, an extremely high catalytic activity of 95% or more could be achieved. On the other hand, Example 1 in which ZrO 2 was mixed with [Rh / ZrO 2 ] was considerably inferior at 90%. In addition, Examples 6 and 7 in which Rh was supported on SiO 2 were also inferior to 92% or less. From this result, it was confirmed that the decrease in the catalytic activity during the S poisoning treatment was significantly improved by allowing SiO 2 to coexist with [Rh / ZrO 2 ] (Examples 2 to 5). Such an effect cannot be obtained even when ZrO 2 coexists in [Rh / ZrO 2 ]. Further, even if Rh is supported on SiO 2 , it cannot be obtained. From the viewpoint of improving the catalytic activity during the S poisoning treatment, the Si content is preferably 50 to 75% by mass (Examples 4 and 5), and more preferably 60 to 75% by mass (Example 5). .
In the case of S poisoning treatment, as shown in Table 1 and FIG. 4, the catalyst samples according to Examples 2 to 5 in which SiO 2 was mixed with [Rh / ZrO 2 ] exhibited high catalytic activity of 95% or more. . Particularly in Examples 4 and 5 in which the Si content was 50% by mass or more, an extremely high catalytic activity of 97% or more could be achieved. On the other hand, Example 1 in which ZrO 2 was mixed with [Rh / ZrO 2 ] had a considerably poor catalytic activity of 93%. In addition, Examples 6 and 7 in which Rh was supported on SiO 2 were also inferior at 93% or less. From this result, it was confirmed that the decrease in the catalytic activity after the S poisoning treatment was significantly improved by the coexistence of SiO 2 (Examples 2 to 5). Such an effect cannot be obtained even when ZrO 2 coexists in [Rh / ZrO 2 ]. Further, even if Rh is supported on SiO 2 , it cannot be obtained. From the viewpoint of improving the catalytic activity after the S poisoning treatment, the Si content is preferably 50% by mass to 75% by mass (Examples 4 and 5), and more preferably 60% by mass to 75% by mass (Example 5). .

<Catalyst activity evaluation>
With respect to the catalyst samples according to Examples 11 to 18 obtained above, the catalytic activity was evaluated before, during and after the treatment of S poisoning.
Gas composition: 0.15% NO + 0.7% O 2 + 0.65% CO + 0.1% C 3 H 6 + 10% CO 2 + 3% H 2 O
表2に、各サンプル中のSiO2含有量と、S被毒処理なし、処理中、処理後それぞれの触媒活性の評価を示す。なお、ここではSiO2を「Si」、ZrO2を「Zr」と略記した。 Table 2 shows the SiO 2 content in each sample and the evaluation of the catalytic activity of each without S poisoning treatment, during treatment, and after treatment. Here, SiO 2 is abbreviated as “Si” and ZrO 2 is abbreviated as “Zr”.
S被毒処理なしの場合、表2に示すように、PdをZrO2に担持した例11〜15に係る触媒サンプルは、95〜97%という極めて高い触媒活性を発揮した。これに対し、PdをSiO2に担持した例16,17は、92%と若干劣り、さらにPdをSiZrO4(ジルコニアとシリカとの固溶体)に担持させた例18は、79%とかなり劣った。この結果から、ZrO2(例11〜15)は、SiO2(例16、例17)およびSiZrO4(例18)に比べてPdをより高分散に担持し得ることが確認された。 In the case of no S poisoning treatment, as shown in Table 2, the catalyst samples according to Examples 11 to 15 in which Pd was supported on ZrO 2 exhibited extremely high catalytic activity of 95 to 97%. On the other hand, Examples 16 and 17 in which Pd was supported on SiO 2 were slightly inferior to 92%, and Example 18 in which Pd was supported on SiZrO 4 (solid solution of zirconia and silica) was considerably inferior to 79%. . From this result, it was confirmed that ZrO 2 (Examples 11 to 15) can carry Pd with higher dispersion than SiO 2 (Examples 16 and 17) and SiZrO 4 (Example 18).
In the case of S poisoning treatment, as shown in Table 2, the catalyst samples according to Examples 12 to 15 in which SiO 2 was mixed with [Pd / ZrO 2 ] exhibited a high catalytic activity of 48% or more. Particularly in Examples 12 to 14 in which the Si content was 50% by mass or less, an extremely high catalytic activity of 49% or more was achieved. On the other hand, Example 11 in which ZrO 2 was mixed with [Pd / ZrO 2 ] was considerably inferior at 44%. From this result, it was confirmed that the decrease in the catalytic activity during the S poisoning treatment was significantly improved by allowing SiO 2 to coexist with [Pd / ZrO 2 ] (Examples 12 to 15). Such an effect cannot be obtained even when ZrO 2 coexists in [Pd / ZrO 2 ]. From the viewpoint of improving the catalytic activity during the S poisoning treatment, the Si content is preferably in the range of 5% by mass to 50% by mass (eg, 5% by mass to less than 50% by mass) (Examples 12 to 14).
In the case of S poisoning treatment, as shown in Table 2, the catalyst samples according to Examples 12 to 15 in which SiO 2 was mixed with [Pd / ZrO 2 ] exhibited a high catalytic activity of 76% or more. Particularly in Examples 12 to 14 in which the Si content was 50% by mass or less, an extremely high catalytic activity of 81% or more could be achieved. On the other hand, Example 11 in which ZrO 2 was mixed with [Pd / ZrO 2 ] had a considerably poor catalytic activity of 71%. From this result, it was confirmed that the decrease in the catalytic activity after the S poisoning treatment was significantly improved by the coexistence of SiO 2 (Examples 12 to 15). Such an effect cannot be obtained even when ZrO 2 coexists in [Pd / ZrO 2 ]. From the viewpoint of improving the catalytic activity after the S poisoning treatment, the Si content is preferably in the range of 5% by mass to 50% by mass (for example, 5% by mass or more and less than 50% by mass) (Examples 12 to 14).
As described above, from the result of the performance evaluation of Test Example 1: Rh catalyst layer (upper layer), the silica content of the Rh catalyst layer is preferably 50% by mass or more and 75% by mass or less from the viewpoint of improving the S poison resistance. Test Example 2: From the results of performance evaluation of the Pd catalyst layer (lower layer), the silica content of the Pd catalyst layer is preferably 5% by mass or more and less than 50% by mass from the viewpoint of improving S poisoning resistance. Therefore, in the exhaust gas purifying catalyst provided by the present invention, the silica content of the upper layer is 50% by mass or more and 75% by mass or less, and the silica content of the lower layer is 5% by mass or more and less than 50% by mass. It was confirmed that the catalyst is suitable for an exhaust gas purifying catalyst provided with a catalyst coat layer of a laminated structure type of upper and lower layers.
According to the present invention, as described above, by arranging the Rh catalyst layer having improved S poisoning resistance by the action of silica particles in the upper layer, the sulfur component such as SOx in the exhaust gas is on the lower Pd catalyst layer. It becomes difficult to diffuse inside, and S poisoning of Pd particles can be effectively suppressed even in the Pd catalyst layer. Therefore, according to the present invention, not only the [Pd / ZrO 2 ] SiO 2 support form shown in Examples 12 to 15 but also Pd catalyst layers having the support forms shown in Examples 11 and 16 to 18 may be used. Absent. However, the configuration in which silica particles are also contained in the Pd catalyst layer as in the above-described embodiment is preferable from the viewpoint of further improving the S poisoning resistance of the Pd particles.
