Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a developing device used for a copying machine, a facsimile, a printer, and the like, and an image forming apparatus and a process cartridge using the developing device.
2. Description of the Related Art Conventionally, in an electrophotographic image forming apparatus, a developing device is known in which a developer is carried on a developer carrying member and the developer is conveyed by moving the surface of the developer carrying member. In such a developing apparatus, the developer carried on the developer carrying member is regulated by the developer developer regulating member as the surface of the developer carrying member is moved, and then the latent image carrying member such as a photoconductor is used. It is conveyed to the opposite development area. Some developing devices using a two-component developer composed of a magnetic carrier and a toner as a developer use a developing sleeve having a magnetic field generating means inside as a developer carrier. The developing sleeve carries the developer contained in the developing device on the surface by the magnetic force of the internal magnetic field generating means, and conveys the carried developer to the developing area facing the photoreceptor by rotating.
With the recent increase in image forming speed, the surface moving speed of a latent image carrier such as a photoconductor tends to be further increased. In such a high-speed image forming apparatus, unless the developing sleeve is rotated at a relatively high speed, the amount of toner supplied to the latent image is insufficient, resulting in insufficient development density. However, when the developing sleeve is rotated at a high speed, the deterioration of the developer carrying member and the developer is accelerated due to the friction between the developer and the developing sleeve.
Therefore, in order to solve such problems, as a developing device used in a high-speed image forming apparatus, a multistage developing device that develops a latent image on a latent image carrier using a plurality of developing sleeves. Has been proposed (for example,
However, in the multistage developing device described in
On the other hand, in
However, as in the developing apparatus described in
The present invention has been made in view of the above problems, and an object of the present invention is to use a multistage developing device in which a developer on a developer carrier disposed on the downstream side converts a toner image on a latent image carrier. It is an object of the present invention to provide a developing device capable of improving the uniformity of image density while preventing the occurrence of problems caused by rubbing, and an image forming apparatus and a process cartridge provided with the developing device.
In order to achieve the above object, according to the first aspect of the present invention, the developer is carried on the surface and moved by the magnetic force generating means disposed therein, and the surface is moved by carrying the electrostatic latent image on the surface. Two developer carriers for supplying toner to the latent image on the surface of the latent image carrier for development in a development area facing the latent image carrier, and developing the latent image carrier as two developer carriers A first developer carrier that forms a first development region upstream of the surface movement direction of the body, and a second developer carrier that forms a second development region downstream of the latent image carrier in the surface movement direction. A developing device for supplying a developer in the second development area to the latent image forming a toner image by supplying a developer in the first development area. The developer carried on the surface of the second developer carrier is non-contact with the latent image carrier. , The surface moving speed of the second developer bearing member, and is characterized in faster than the surface moving speed of the first developer carrying member.
According to the present invention, in the second development area, the developer carried on the surface of the second developer carrier is not in contact with the latent image carrier, and therefore the developer carrier disposed on the downstream side. It is possible to prevent the occurrence of problems caused by the developer on the body sliding on the toner image on the latent image carrier. Furthermore, since the surface movement speed of the second developer carrier is faster than the surface movement speed of the first developer carrier, the amount of developer that can contribute to development passes through the development area per unit time is The second development area is larger than the one development area. This increases the chance of supplying the developer to an arbitrary latent image, increases the possibility of supplying a predetermined amount of developer, and improves the uniformity of image density.
In the present invention, it is possible to prevent the occurrence of problems caused by the developer on the developer carrying member disposed on the downstream side from rubbing the toner image on the latent image carrying member, while maintaining uniformity in image density. There is an excellent effect that improvement can be achieved.

As shown in FIG. 3, the

図1に示すように、現像装置23は、現像剤担持体としての二つの現像ローラ23a(第一現像ローラ23a1、第二現像ローラ23a2)を備える。また、現像装置23内の現像剤に搬送力を付与する付与する現像剤搬送部材として、オーガスクリュからなる三つの搬送スクリュ23b(第一搬送スクリュ23b1、第二搬送スクリュ23b2及び第三搬送スクリュ23b3)を備える。
Next, the configuration and operation of the developing
As shown in FIG. 1, the developing
The developing roller 23a is configured such that a developing sleeve formed of a nonmagnetic material such as aluminum, brass, stainless steel, or conductive resin in a cylindrical shape is rotated clockwise by a rotation driving mechanism (not shown). In the developing sleeve of the developing roller 23a, a magnet for forming a magnetic field is fixed so as to cause the developer G to rise on the peripheral surface of the developing sleeve. The carrier C in the developer G rises in a chain shape on the developing sleeve so as to follow the normal magnetic field lines emitted from the magnet. The charged toner T is attached to the carrier C that is spiked in a chain shape to form a magnetic brush. The magnetic brush is transferred in the same direction (clockwise) as the developing sleeve by the rotation of the developing sleeve.

A third transport screw 23b3, which is a third developer transport member, is installed in the third developer transport section B3. As shown in FIG. 4, the third transport screw 23b3 linearly connects the downstream end of the transport path by the second transport screw 23b2 and the upstream end of the transport path by the first transport screw 23b1. Further, they are disposed obliquely with respect to the horizontal direction. The third transport screw 23b3 transports the developer G transported by the second transport screw 23b2 to the upstream end of the transport path by the first transport screw 23b1.

As shown in FIG. 4, the downstream end of the second developer transport section B2 and the upstream end of the third developer transport section B3 communicate with each other via the
With such a configuration, the circulation path for circulating the developer G in the longitudinal direction in the developing
A magnetic sensor 26 (toner density sensor) is installed in the third developer transport section B3. Then, based on the toner density information detected by the

In the developer circulation path in the developing
As described above, by providing the bypass path in the developer circulation path in the developing
FIG. 7 is a diagram illustrating a state in which the developer is wavy in the developer circulation path in the developing

As shown in FIG. 1, the developing
The

Next, an image forming process performed on the
When the
The surface of the
Specifically, the developer G pumped up by the magnetic force of the magnetic poles of the first developing roller 23a1 is quantified by a
In the developing
The developer that has passed through the facing portion between the first developing roller 23a1 and the
At the position where the first developing roller 23a1 and the second developing roller 23a2 face each other, the magnetic flux density in the normal direction on the surface of the first developing roller 23a1 is eliminated or an agent separation portion that becomes very small. . On the other hand, the first developing roller 23a1 side is a receiving magnetic pole that attracts the carrier. Therefore, at the position where the first developing roller 23a1 and the second developing roller 23a2 face each other, the developer on the first developing roller 23a1 is attracted to the second developing roller 23a2, and the first developing roller 23a1 and the second developing roller The developer G is delivered to 23a2.
In the developing
Further, by making the second developing roller 23a2 non-contact with the
Furthermore, since the second developing roller 23a2 has a faster surface movement speed than the first developing roller 23a1, the amount of developer that can contribute to the development located near the outermost surface of the magnetic brush passes through the developing area per unit time. The second development area is larger than the first development area. This increases the chance of supplying the developer to an arbitrary latent image, increases the possibility of supplying a predetermined amount of developer, can improve the uniformity of the image density, and is more rough. An image with less can be obtained.

The granularity rank shown in FIG. 8 is an index indicating the granularity (roughness) of the output image. The larger the numerical value, the better the granularity.
Specifically, in order to evaluate the graininess, a stage sample of 5 stages (bad 1 → 5 good) was prepared in advance and visually evaluated. The stage sample is expressed in qualitative terms as follows.
Rank 5: Roughness cannot be perceived.
Rank 4: If you look carefully, you can perceive a slight roughness.
Rank 3: Unwanted levels of roughness are perceived.
Rank 2: Roughness is noticeable.
Rank 1: Roughness that is apparently abnormal is perceived.
Further, the “developer life” shown in FIG. 9 is the number of output sheets until the developer is scraped and the developer is finely pulverized, resulting in deterioration of charging characteristics, resulting in background contamination. It is decided by.
As shown in FIG. 9, in normal contact development, if the linear speed ratio is increased, the life of the developer is reduced. However, by making the second developing roller 23a2 non-contact, the stress applied to the developer is reduced, and the linear speed ratio is reduced. However, the life of the developer does not decrease even if the value is increased, and an image with good graininess can be obtained as shown in FIG.
[Experiment 2]
As a developing bias applied to the second developing roller 23a2, an alternating current bias may be superimposed on the direct current bias, thereby improving the developing ability.
On the other hand, when an AC bias is applied to the second developing roller 23 a 2, so-called background stains in which the toner flying on the non-image portion adheres occur. Therefore, the waveform of the AC bias applied to the second developing roller 23a2 is such that the development direction potential application time t1 is t1 and the pullback direction potential application time is t2, and the development direction potential application time t1 is relative to the pullback direction potential application time t2. It is preferably not too small.

Then, based on the result of measuring the image density (soil ID) of the tape with an image densitometer, the background dirt was evaluated in three stages of x, Δ, and ◯. The evaluation criteria for each evaluation are shown below.

Δ: 0.10 <soil dirt ID ≦ 0.15

As shown in Table 2, the background stain becomes better as the development direction potential application time t1 increases.

The “image density” shown in Table 3 was measured using a reflection densitometer X-Rite 939 manufactured by X-Rite.
As shown in Table 3, the image density is increased by increasing the outer diameter of the second developing roller 23a2. This is because even if the development gap, which is the closest distance, is the same, the change in the distance from the surface of the
〔態様A〕
