Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to an image forming apparatus such as a copying machine or a printer, and more particularly to a double feed detection technique for a recording medium such as a sheet used in the image forming apparatus (hereinafter, a sheet will be described as a representative example).
In an image forming apparatus such as a copying machine or a printer, sheets set in a sheet feeding unit are separated one by one, the separated sheets are conveyed to an image forming unit, and an image formed by an electrophotographic method is placed on the sheet. After the transfer, the image is fixed on the sheet by the fixing unit and discharged outside the apparatus, thereby forming an arbitrary image on the sheet.
At this time, when separating and transporting the paper set in the paper feeding unit, so-called double feeding, in which two or more papers are transported to the image forming unit in a state of being overlapped, may occur. If the paper is transported in the double feed state, paper jams and good image formation cannot be performed. Therefore, it is necessary to stop the operation of the image forming apparatus and remove the paper jam.
In order to prevent such double feed, a combination of a separation roller and a reverse roller incorporating a torque limiter is widely used as a double feed prevention mechanism in the paper feed unit. On the other hand, when double feeding of paper occurs, it is necessary to detect double feeding between the paper feeding unit and the image forming unit, and it is already known to use an optical sensor or an ultrasonic sensor as the detection method. Yes.
Japanese Unexamined Patent Application Publication No. 2009-214979 (Patent Document 1) discloses a mechanism for detecting a double feed based on the amount of transmitted light and detecting a surface based on the amount of reflected light using an optical sensor. This double feed detection mechanism includes a double feed detection means for detecting double feed that occurs when paper is fed, and is arranged in parallel with the double feed detection means or upstream of the double feed detection means in the paper conveyance direction. The apparatus includes a surface detection unit that arranges and measures the state of the paper surface, and a multi-feed detection condition change unit that changes a multi-feed detection condition based on a detection result of the surface detection unit.
However, in the conventional multi-feed detection by the optical sensor, the multi-feed detection is merely performed by obtaining the sensor output at a common position covering all the sheet lengths to be conveyed. Specifically, in order to obtain the sensor output at the same position as the blank paper even on the paper on which the image has already been printed such as preprinted paper, a design such as a color, a figure, and a character is printed at that position. When determining whether to double feed one sheet or more, the output voltage value obtained from the optical sensor is not stable. Therefore, it is determined that one sheet is being transported or two or more sheets are transported. In some cases, it could not be determined as double feeding, and there was a problem of false detection or no detection.
Further, in the image forming apparatus described in Patent Document 1, if an image has already been printed in an area where the sensor output of the paper is to be obtained, a good determination is made based on the result of measuring the state of the paper surface. Since the double feed detection condition may not be obtained and the output voltage value obtained from the optical sensor is not stable, it is determined that the double feed is carried by one sheet or the double feed is judged by two or more sheets. The problem of false detection or no detection has not been solved.
The object of the present invention is to eliminate such drawbacks of the prior art and to obtain a good double feed detection result even when a recording medium on which an image has already been printed such as preprinted paper is used. The present invention is configured as described above. In short, the position where the sensor output is obtained is changed according to the paper size to be fed, and even if an image is already printed at that position, the design can be improved. Accordingly, the sensor output can be set at an arbitrary position where the sensor output is stable.
Next, embodiments of the present invention will be described with reference to the drawings. FIG. 1 is a schematic configuration diagram showing an overall configuration of a laser beam printer according to an embodiment of the present invention.
In the figure,
For example, preprinted paper with the same paper thickness is loaded into the paper stacking means 20, preprinted paper with the same paper thickness is loaded into the paper stacking means 26, and white paper with the same paper thickness is loaded into the paper stacking means 28 individually. It is known in advance. There is a condition that preprinted paper and white paper are not mixed in one paper stacking means, for example, the paper stacking means 20, or

The
The
The

The

As shown in FIG. 1, A6 size preprinted

The
In the case of this example, since the voltage value is acquired five times at 10 msec intervals, the fifth voltage value acquisition position is 120.75 mm + (4.15 mm × 4 times) = 137.35 mm from the
The voltage value obtained five times as described above is converted into 8-bit data by the A / D converter 34 (see FIG. 3), and the data is rounded by setting the lower 3 bits to 0. It is compared whether there is a match among the total of five voltage value data from the first time to the fifth time. If there is matching data, the maximum value among the matched data is stored in the
When the size of the
When the size of the
If the
From the third and subsequent sheets, it is compared with the sheet thickness data of the preceding preceding sheet, and it is determined whether or not it is a double feed. At this time, the paper thickness data of the paper is determined as follows: (paper thickness data for one paper) ≧ (paper thickness data for two papers) × 2 In addition, it is possible to obtain a good double feed detection result without occurrence of erroneous detection or non-detection such that it is not possible to determine double feed by carrying two or more sheets.
If the preceding paper or the paper is not determined to be double feed in the multi-feed determination, the paper is sent to the
