Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a lubricant application device provided in an image forming apparatus such as a printer, a fax machine, a copier, or a multifunction machine, and an image forming apparatus provided with the lubricant application device.
2. Description of the Related Art Conventionally, in an image forming apparatus provided with a photosensitive drum as an image carrier, particularly an image forming apparatus using polymerized toner, a configuration in which a lubricant is applied to the surface of the photosensitive drum has been widely used. The reason for applying the lubricant to the surface of the photosensitive drum is mainly as follows. The first reason is to reduce the coefficient of friction on the surface of the photosensitive drum to ensure the cleaning property of the polymerized toner which is disadvantageous for blade cleaning. The second reason is to protect the surface of the photosensitive drum from the alternating voltage when the alternating voltage (current) is superimposed by the charging means.
However, for any reason, a problem occurs when the amount of lubricant applied is less than the specified amount (appropriate amount). Regarding ensuring the cleaning performance, the lubricity of the surface of the photoreceptor drum cannot be maintained, and problems of contamination of the photoreceptor such as poor cleaning and filming phenomenon of the photoreceptor surface occur. Further, regarding the surface protection of the photosensitive drum, the lubricity of the surface of the photosensitive drum cannot be maintained, and there is a problem that the film thickness of the photosensitive drum is rapidly reduced and the life of the photosensitive drum is shortened.
Even when the amount of lubricant applied exceeds a specified amount, the configuration using the contact charging type charging roller causes a problem of charging roller contamination that the lubricant adheres to the surface of the charging roller. . Then, charging failure occurs due to contamination of the charging roller, resulting in background contamination.
As described above, in an image forming apparatus equipped with a photosensitive drum, particularly an image forming apparatus using polymerized toner, in order to perform good image formation over a long period of time, contamination of the photosensitive drum and contamination of the charging roller. In addition, it is necessary to perform stable blade cleaning. In order to perform stable blade cleaning over a long period of time, it is important to stably apply a lubricant in a specified amount (appropriate amount). One factor affecting this stability is photosensitivity. There is a linear speed of the body drum.
As a specific example, in the case of a verification machine with a linear speed of 600 dpi plain paper printing: 120 mm / sec and 1200 dpi and a linear speed of thick paper printing: 60 mm / sec, lubrication with respect to the same rotational speed of the photosensitive drum. The amount of the agent consumed was as shown in the graph shown in the relationship (1) between the linear velocity of the photosensitive member and the amount of lubricant consumed in FIG. As a result, when the linear speed of the photosensitive drum was low, the consumption (supply amount) of the lubricant was reduced. Here, since the image forming conditions such as the charging bias and the transfer bias, excluding the lubricant coating consumption, are optimized for each photosensitive member linear velocity, the factors causing the difference in the lubricant consumption described above. It is considered that the difference in the photosensitive member linear velocity is dominant.
In the case of a machine that always prints at a constant speed, the consumption (supply amount) may be determined according to the speed. However, in an image forming apparatus using a plurality of linear velocities, the best setting is made at either linear velocity. For example, in a lubricant application device having a solid lubricant and an application roller, the pressing force, the number of rotations of the brush roller, the brush density, and the like are set to be the best at one linear speed. For this reason, excessive or insufficient lubricant consumption occurs at the other linear speed.
As for the maintenance of the lubricity of the surface of the photosensitive drum, a charging process is performed as compared with the case of using only a solid lubricant by supplying a solid lubricant with an inorganic lubricant added to the surface of the photosensitive drum. There is a report that a decrease in lubricity due to electrical stress on the surface of the photosensitive drum can be suppressed. In addition, it has been reported that a lubricant film can be formed over the entire surface of the photosensitive drum to maintain high lubricity. For example, Patent Document 1 discloses a configuration in which a solid lubricant in which at least boron nitride and a fatty acid metal salt are blended with a lubricant supplied to a photosensitive drum is supplied to the photosensitive drum. However, it has been found that even in such a lubricant, the supply amount of the lubricant is excessively and insufficiently caused by the change in the linear velocity of the photosensitive drum.
Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 2004-228561 includes a filming removal mode in order to suppress the occurrence of filming phenomenon on the surface of a photosensitive drum having a plurality of linear speeds, and the frequency at which the filming removal mode is executed according to the linear speed. A configuration of an image forming apparatus that changes the angle is disclosed. The filming removal mode disclosed in
The present invention has been made in view of the above problems, and an object of the present invention is to prevent contamination of the photosensitive drum and the charging roller by supplying the lubricant stably in accordance with the linear velocity of the photosensitive member.

Furthermore, it is more preferable to add boron nitride which is an inorganic lubricant. Examples of the crystal structure of boron nitride include a hexagonal low-pressure phase (h-BN) and a cubic high-pressure phase (c-BN). Among these boron nitrides, hexagonal low-pressure phase boron nitride crystals have a layered structure and are easily cleaved, so the friction coefficient is about 0. 2 or less can be maintained, the characteristics hardly change due to the discharge, and even if the discharge is received, the lubricity is not lost as compared with other lubricants. By adding such boron nitride, the lubricant that is supplied to the surface of the
In addition, as a material of the
In this embodiment, the first supply means is provided upstream of the
In addition, the printer according to the present exemplary embodiment has a configuration in which image formation can be performed by selecting a plurality of photosensitive member linear speeds (surface moving speed of the photosensitive drum 10). FIG. 3 shows the photosensitive member linear velocity and lubrication showing the amount of lubricant consumed per unit rotational speed for each image forming unit 5 when the photosensitive member linear velocity is 120 mm / s and 60 mm / s. It is a graph of the relationship (1) of agent consumption. The
As described above, in the configuration in which the photosensitive member linear speed of the
Therefore, in this embodiment, even when the amount of lubricant supplied to the surface of the
(Second supply means, contact / separation means)
Next, the second supply unit 191 and the contact /
The contact / separation means 197 includes a
As the lubricant for the
The
(Control of second supply means and contact / separation means)
Next, the control according to the photosensitive member linear velocity of the second supply unit 191 and the contact /
Therefore, the supply amount of the lubricant that is insufficient when the photosensitive member linear velocity is 60 mm / s is supplied to the photosensitive member linear velocity supplied from the second supply unit 191 onto the surface of the
The
Further, when the photosensitive member linear velocity is 120 mm / s, the amount of lubricant consumption is already an ideal amount. Therefore, the second supply unit 191 may be operated only for a time during which the necessary minimum boron nitride can be supplied. Can be significantly reduced compared with 60 mm / s. Therefore, even when the photosensitive member linear velocity is 120 mm / s, the cumulative number (or the number of output sheets) of rotation of the
Next, a verification experiment performed to confirm the operational effect of the configuration of the present embodiment will be described.
In the verification experiment, when the lubricant is supplied from the
Specifically, Ricoh's Image MPC2200 was used as a verification machine, and a continuous paper feeding test was conducted on 50,000 sheets of A4 size and 5% original image area ratio. At the time of verification, the standard speed (120 mm / s) was performed with or without supplying the lubricant every 100 sheets from the second supply unit 191 (without the second supply unit). Further, the low-speed (60 mm / s) operation was performed depending on whether or not the lubricant was supplied from the second supply unit 191 every 100 sheets.
From the results shown in Table 1, by supplying the lubricant from the second supply unit 191 of this embodiment, the photosensitive member linear velocity and whether or not the
As described above, the
Therefore, the
In addition, since the second supply unit 191 and the contact /
In the present embodiment, the
Further, the configuration of the second supply unit 191 is not limited to the configuration including the

In the configurations of the first and second embodiments described above, when the series of print jobs is a large number of continuous print jobs, for example, 500 continuous print jobs, the surface of the
Therefore, in this embodiment, even when a series of print jobs are being executed. Like the first and second embodiments, the lubricant is supplied from the second supply unit 191 to the

In addition, the configuration of the first and second embodiments described above can be combined with the configuration in which the lubricant is supplied from the second supply unit 191 to the
With this configuration, it is possible to achieve both the guarantee of image quality to be formed and the convenience of the user.
