Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to an exhaust heating apparatus and method for increasing the temperature of exhaust gas in order to activate and maintain the exhaust purification device in an internal combustion engine provided with the exhaust purification device.
In recent years, in order to cope with strict exhaust regulations for an internal combustion engine, it is necessary to promote activation of an exhaust purification device at the start of the internal combustion engine or to maintain the active state during operation of the internal combustion engine. . For this reason, Patent Document 1 and the like propose an internal combustion engine in which an exhaust heating device is incorporated in an exhaust passage upstream of the exhaust purification device. The exhaust gas heating device generates a heating gas in the exhaust gas, and supplies the generated heating gas to the exhaust gas purification device on the downstream side, thereby promoting activation of the exhaust gas purification device or maintaining an active state. Is. For this reason, the exhaust heating device generally includes a fuel supply valve that supplies fuel into the exhaust passage, and an ignition device such as a glow plug that generates heated gas by heating and igniting the fuel. Furthermore, there is also known one in which a small oxidation catalyst is arranged in the exhaust passage downstream of the ignition device in order to increase the temperature of the heated gas. This oxidation catalyst has its own heat generation function and fuel reforming function to a low carbon component, but is different in configuration from the oxidation catalyst used as part of the exhaust purification device.
In the conventional exhaust heating device disclosed in Patent Document 1, since the ignition device is disposed in the vicinity of the fuel supply valve, the fuel and exhaust gas supplied from the fuel supply valve to the exhaust passage are sufficiently mixed. Otherwise, the ignited fuel may be incompletely combusted. For this reason, a large amount of soot is generated and clogs the gap between the small oxidation catalyst disposed upstream of the exhaust purification device and the exhaust pipe, and the catalytic converter that forms part of the exhaust purification device. This causes a problem that may occur. As a result, it is necessary to frequently perform the regeneration process of the catalytic converter, and the fuel consumption is deteriorated as the fuel is consumed.
An object of the present invention is to provide an exhaust heating device that suppresses generation of soot as much as possible in an internal combustion engine in which an exhaust heating device for heating the exhaust flowing through the exhaust passage upstream of the exhaust purification device is incorporated. It is to provide an exhaust heating method.
A first aspect of the present invention is an exhaust heating device for heating exhaust gas led from an internal combustion engine to an exhaust purification device, and the exhaust heating device supplies fuel to an exhaust passage upstream of the exhaust purification device. A fuel supply valve for supplying, an oxidation catalyst disposed in the exhaust passage downstream from the fuel supply position by the fuel supply valve and upstream from the exhaust purification device, and the oxidation catalyst and the exhaust passage Between the inner wall of the exhaust pipe that defines the exhaust pipe and surrounding the oxidation catalyst with a gap that guides part of the exhaust and part of the fuel to the exhaust purification device without passing through the oxidation catalyst. And an annular electric heater for igniting the fuel from the fuel supply valve passing through the gap together with the exhaust gas.
In the present invention, fuel is supplied from the fuel injection valve to the exhaust passage upstream of the exhaust purification device. This fuel is mixed with the exhaust gas flowing through the exhaust passage, and a part of the fuel is guided to the oxidation catalyst disposed in the exhaust passage downstream from the fuel supply position by the fuel supply valve and upstream from the exhaust purification device. The rest is led to a gap formed between the oxidation catalyst and the inner wall of the exhaust pipe defining the exhaust passage. The fuel guided to the gap flows to the exhaust purification device without passing through the oxidation catalyst, but is ignited by the annular electric heating element disposed in the gap, so that the heated exhaust is purified. Supplied to the device.
The exhaust heating apparatus according to the present invention can further include a hood extending from the oxidation catalyst toward the upstream side of the exhaust passage, and a gap can be extended between the hood and the inner wall of the exhaust pipe. In this case, the electric heater may be arranged along the longitudinal direction of the exhaust pipe so as to surround the hood.
Means for controlling on / off of energization of the electric heating body may be further provided so that the electric heating body is energized for a predetermined time from the ON signal of the ignition key switch.
According to a second aspect of the present invention, there is provided a method for heating exhaust gas introduced from an internal combustion engine to an exhaust gas purification device, wherein fuel is supplied in a diffused state over substantially the entire exhaust passage upstream of the exhaust gas purification device. And an oxidation catalyst disposed in the exhaust passage on the downstream side of the fuel supply position and on the upstream side of the exhaust purification device together with a part of the exhaust flowing through the exhaust passage. Guiding the remaining fuel together with the remaining exhaust gas to a gap formed between the oxidation catalyst and the inner wall of the exhaust pipe defining the exhaust passage, and the fuel guided to the gap And a step of igniting the fuel passing through the gap portion by the heat generated by the electric heating element disposed in the gap portion.
In the exhaust heating method according to the present invention, a step of starting energization of the electric heating body based on an ON signal of an ignition key switch, and a step of stopping energization of the electric heating body after a predetermined time from the start of energization of the electric heating body; Can further comprise.
According to the present invention, since the distance from the fuel supply valve to the heating element is large, the fuel supplied from the fuel supply valve to the exhaust passage can be sufficiently agitated with the exhaust gas, thereby making it possible to refine the fuel. The generation of soot due to incomplete combustion can be suppressed. Moreover, since the electric heating element has an annular shape so as to surround the oxidation catalyst, most of the fuel passing through the gap can be reliably ignited, and the temperature of the exhaust can be raised efficiently.
When a hood that extends from the oxidation catalyst toward the upstream side of the exhaust passage is provided and a gap extends between the hood and the inner wall of the exhaust pipe, fuel droplets that are insufficiently refined are hooded. The incomplete combustion can be prevented. Further, the flow of exhaust gas passing through the gap can promote vaporization of the fuel droplets adhering to the hood, and finally the fuel can be miniaturized. In particular, when the electric heating element is arranged along the longitudinal direction of the exhaust pipe so as to surround the hood, the vaporized fuel can be efficiently ignited.
In the case where a means for controlling on / off of energization to the heating element is provided so that the heating element is energized for a predetermined time from the ON signal of the ignition key switch, wasteful power consumption of the heating element can be prevented. .
Embodiments in which the present invention is applied to a compression ignition type internal combustion engine will be described in detail with reference to FIGS. However, the present invention is not limited to such an embodiment, and the configuration can be freely changed according to required characteristics. For example, the present invention is also effective for a spark ignition type internal combustion engine in which gasoline, alcohol, LNG (liquefied natural gas) or the like is used as fuel and is ignited by a spark plug.
The main part of the engine system in the present embodiment is schematically shown in FIG. 1, the exhaust heating device portion is extracted and enlarged in FIG. 2, and the cross-sectional structure along the line III-III is shown in FIG. . In FIG. 1, in addition to a valve operating mechanism and a silencer for intake and exhaust of the
The
The
The
The
An
The
An oxidation catalyst 26 (hereinafter referred to as an auxiliary oxidation catalyst for convenience in order to distinguish it from the
The
The
An annular
The means 30 for controlling on / off of energization to the
The fuel supply operation from the
In this way, a part of the exhaust gas flowing through the
As a result, the exhaust purification device 11 can be activated and maintained in an active state quickly. In particular, the
