Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a method for generating and collecting a substance having a periodic fine structure by plasma collision.
Two targets containing carbon are housed in a vacuum chamber, and each of the two targets is simultaneously irradiated with a laser beam to generate two plume plasmas. Techniques for generating nanomaterials are known (see, for example, Non-Patent Document 1).
However, with the technique described in Non-Patent Document 1, it has not been possible to produce a substance (for example, carbon nanotube) having a periodic fine structure that has been proven useful at present.
The present invention has been made in view of such problems, and provides a technique capable of producing a substance having a periodic fine structure with high purity, or a band gap or the like in the periodic fine structure substance. It is an object of the present invention to provide a technique for doping substitutional component atoms (for example, substituting carbon in a carbon nanotube with boron) that changes an electrical resistance or the like as a macroscopic characteristic by modulating quantum characteristics.
In order to achieve the above object, the method for producing and collecting a periodic fine structure material by plasma collision according to claim 1 includes a first step of disposing a plurality of targets containing source atoms in a vacuum chamber, and a short process. The second step of irradiating each of the plurality of targets with a pulsed high energy beam and the plume plasma emitted from each of the plurality of targets irradiated with the short pulsed high energy beam are allowed to collide with each other to form a microstructure material. A third step of generating.
In this periodic fine structure material generation and collection method, the collision mean free process of monoatomic ions with respect to the collision passage distance, which is the distance that the ions in the plume plasma pass through the intersection collision space of the plume plasma, Plume plasma having a density and temperature that is a fraction or less is generated by irradiation with a short pulse high energy beam in the second step. As a result, the collision mean free path between the plasma particles is sufficiently shortened even in the intersection collision space of the plume having a finite volume. That is, collisions occur with a sufficient frequency while plume plasma particles pass through the intersecting collision space. Thereby, cluster molecular ions are first generated, and subsequently, a new substance having a periodic fine structure in which the cluster is a minimum unit can be generated. At this time, the generation of cluster molecular ions dramatically increases the collision frequency, resulting in the generation of a periodic fine structure material in an avalanche (clustering means an increase in size of the molecule).
Moreover, in the periodic fine structure material production | generation collection method by the plasma collision of Claim 1, as described in Claim 2, on the flight path | route in the vacuum of the fine structure material produced | generated at the 3rd process, By installing a mesh member in which a plurality of meshes are formed, it is possible to collect a finely structured material efficiently generated according to the following principle.
According to the periodic microstructural material generation and collection method by plasma collision thus configured, fine structure material larger than the mesh member opening can be collected on the mesh member, while the mesh member opening Smaller microstructures can be passed through the mesh member. That is, it is possible to easily select a fine structure material larger than the mesh opening and a fine structure material smaller than the mesh opening.
Embodiments of the present invention will be described below with reference to the drawings.
FIG. 1 is a schematic diagram showing a configuration of a periodic fine structure substance generation / collection device 1. FIG. 2A is a diagram for explaining the laser irradiation mode on the target, and FIG. 2B is a diagram for explaining the emission behavior of plume plasma.
As shown in FIG. 1, the periodic fine structure material generation and collection device 1 includes a laser generation unit 2 that generates laser light, a laser division unit 3, a line condensing unit 4, and a target storage unit 5. .
After generating a YAG laser (for example, power 1 J, pulse width 6 ns, oscillation frequency 10 Hz), the laser generator 2 converts it to a third harmonic (wavelength: 355 nm) to increase the absorption rate by the solid, and externally Exit.
The laser splitting unit 3 includes a beam splitter 31 and fixed mirrors 32 and 33. Of these, the beam splitter 31 divides the laser light emitted from the laser generator 2 into two desired directions and has a desired intensity ratio (equal intensity in the present embodiment). The fixed mirror 32 reflects one laser beam divided into two by the beam splitter 31 toward the target storage unit 5, and the fixed mirror 33 reflects the other laser beam divided into two by the beam splitter 31 to the target storage unit. Reflects toward 5.
The line condensing unit 4 includes cylindrical lenses 41 and 42. The cylindrical lens 41 is disposed between the fixed mirror 32 and the target storage unit 5, condenses the laser light reflected by the fixed mirror 32 (hereinafter referred to as laser light LL 1), and directs it toward the target storage unit 5. Irradiate. Further, the cylindrical lens 42 is disposed between the fixed mirror 33 and the target storage unit 5, condenses a laser beam reflected by the fixed mirror 33 (hereinafter referred to as laser beam LL 2), and directs it toward the target storage unit 5. Irradiate.
In addition, the target storage unit 5 includes solid targets 51 and 52 containing raw material atoms of fine structure materials (carbon in the present embodiment), and a collection substrate 53 that collects nanomaterials generated in the target storage unit 5 ( 1 (not shown in FIG. 2 (see FIG. 2B)), and a vacuum chamber 54 that houses the solid targets 51 and 52 and the collection substrate 53.
As shown in FIG. 2A, the solid targets 51 and 52 are formed so as to have curved surfaces 51a and 52a. The solid target 51 is arranged so that the laser beam from the cylindrical lens 41 is irradiated onto the curved surface 51a, and the solid target 52 is irradiated with the laser beam from the cylindrical lens 42 onto the curved surface 52a. Be placed.
Further, the solid targets 51 and 52 are arranged so that the condensing directions FD1 and FD2 of the laser beams LL1 and LL2 that have been condensed with rays are along the circumferential direction of the curved surface 51a and the curved surface 52a.
Further, as shown in FIG. 2B, the solid targets 51 and 52 self-concentrate the plume plasmas PP1 and PP2 generated by the laser light to the solid targets 51 and 52 at the self-condensing points CP1 and CP2, respectively. As described above, the shapes of the curved surfaces 51a and 52a are set. The solid targets 51 and 52 are arranged so that the self-focusing point CP1 and the self-focusing point CP2 overlap. Hereinafter, the point where self-condensing point CP1 and self-condensing point CP2 overlap is referred to as collision point IP.
Moreover, the collection board | substrate 53 is a double structure which has arrange | positioned the mesh 53b on the flat plate 53a, as shown in FIG.2 (b). The mesh 53b has an opening of, for example, 16 μm. And the collection board | substrate 53 is installed in the direction D1 (after-mentioned) which goes straight after plume plasma PP1, PP2 merges.
The vacuum chamber 54 is evacuated, for example, with a turbo molecular pump until the total pressure reaches the 10 −4 Pa level.
In the periodic fine structure material generating and collecting apparatus 1 configured as described above, first, the laser light emitted from the laser generating unit 2 is divided into the laser light LL1 and the laser light LL2 by the beam splitter 31. The laser beams LL1 and LL2 are linearly condensed in the condensing directions FD1 and FD2 by the cylindrical lenses 41 and 42, respectively, and irradiated onto the curved surfaces 51a and 52a of the solid targets 51 and 52. Thereby, ablation of the target material is induced, and the plume plasmas PP1 and PP2 are emitted from the curved surfaces 51a and 52a of the solid targets 51 and 52, respectively. (Note that ablation refers to a phenomenon in which when a material is exposed to an extremely high energy flux, plasma generation occurs at a stretch through thermal evaporation, and surface layer atoms are released.)
Since the self-condensing point CP1 of the plume plasma PP1 and the self-condensing point CP2 of the plume plasma PP2 are arranged so as to overlap each other, the plume plasma PP1 and the plume plasma PP2 are finite including the point IP where the radii of curvature intersect. They collide with each other in a vacuum space with a volume.
This collision generates carbon nanomaterials. In addition, since this collision occurs in a vacuum, the produced carbon nanomaterial has high purity. The generated carbon nanomaterial travels straight in the direction D1 of the combined vector of the velocity vector of the plume plasma PP1 and the velocity vector of the plume plasma PP2, and is captured and captured by the collection substrate 53.
Among the carbon nanomaterials captured by the collection substrate 53, those larger than the mesh 53b are captured by the mesh 53b, and those smaller than the mesh 53b are captured by the flat plate 53a. Thereby, the carbon nanomaterial larger than the mesh 53b and the carbon nanomaterial smaller than the mesh can be easily selected.
When the intensity of laser light emitted from the laser generator 2 is 10 8 W / cm 2 , the carbon nanomaterial corresponds to a so-called benzene ring and is the minimum unit of the periodic fine structure. Carbon nanotubes having a periodic fine structure that uses C 6 + nucleation as a minimum unit were generated. The density of the plume plasmas PP1 and PP2 emitted at this time is on the order of 10 10 [1 / cc], and the ion temperature is on the order of 0.1 [eV]. In this embodiment, the mutual penetration distance of plume plasma was about 2 cm, and the collision mean free path between ions was about 1 cm.
FIG. 3A is a transmission electron microscope image of the carbon nanotubes generated by the periodic fine structure material generating and collecting apparatus 1. FIG. 3B is an enlarged image of FIG. This is a carbon nanotube produced by continuous operation for about 2 hours at the above-mentioned laser intensity, and the total length is several kilometers.
FIG. 4 is a diagram showing a mass analysis result of cluster molecular ions generated by the periodic fine structure material generation / collection apparatus 1. As shown in FIG. 4, the generation of C + , C 2 + , C 3 + , C 4 + , C 5 + , and C 6 + was confirmed. In particular, C 6 + must be generated as a minimum unit for constituting the periodic fine structure.
That is, with respect to the distance (that is, the mutual penetration distance) that the ions in the plume plasmas PP1 and PP2 pass through the intersecting collision portion space of the plume plasma (that is, the space around the collision point IP), The plume plasma having an ion temperature that makes the collision mean free process of [1] a fraction or less is generated by irradiation with a short pulse high energy beam. Under this condition, collisions occur with sufficient frequency while ions in the plume plasma pass through the intersection space having a finite volume. As a result, cluster ions are first generated, and subsequently, a new material having a periodic fine structure in which the cluster is a minimum unit is generated. Also, the formation of the periodic fine structure material accelerates due to a dramatic increase in the collision frequency between ions due to the formation of cluster ions (clustering means an increase in the size of the molecule).

The second step in FIG. 2 is a step in which the plume plasma PP1 and the plume plasma PP2 collide with each other in the third step in the present invention, the carbon nanotube is a periodic fine structure material in the present invention, and the mesh 53b is a mesh member in the present invention.

For example, in the above-described embodiment, two solid targets are irradiated with laser light. However, the present invention is not limited to this, and three or more solid targets may be used. An example is boron. By using boron as the third target, it is possible to perform doping such that the carbon atom of the carbon nanotube is replaced with boron. In addition, it is also possible to locally change the electrical resistance of the periodic fine structure material as a quantum characteristic such as a band gap or a macroscopic characteristic.
