Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to an image forming apparatus that uses an electrophotographic recording system such as a copying machine, a printer, and a facsimile.
Various color image forming apparatuses for forming a color image on a recording material using an electrophotographic recording system have been devised, and some of them have been put into practical use. A typical example is given below. A plurality of photosensitive drums, and electrostatic latent images on the respective photosensitive drums are developed by four color developing units of yellow, magenta, cyan, and black, which are provided to face the respective photosensitive drums, and toner images of the respective colors. Are formed separately. Then, the toner images of the respective colors are superimposed and transferred onto the intermediate transfer member, and then transferred onto the recording material in a lump to obtain a color image on the recording material. There is an inline image forming apparatus of an intermediate transfer type that performs printing (image formation) in this way. In this apparatus, there are four image forming means such as photosensitive drums, developing units, chargers, and cleaning devices so as to form four color toner images, respectively, which are sequentially arranged according to the moving direction of the intermediate transfer member.
Here, the cleaning device uses a cleaning blade that cleans the photosensitive drum by contacting the photosensitive drum and scraping off transfer residual toner on the photosensitive drum. As this cleaning blade, a flexible one such as urethane rubber is generally used. Normally, the cleaning blade is optimized for conditions such as rubber hardness, thickness, elastic modulus, and protrusion amount. However, the frictional resistance between the photosensitive drum and the cleaning blade increases, which may cause abnormal noise due to chattering (stick slip) of the cleaning blade and turning up of the blade (a phenomenon of turning up the cleaning blade).
In order to cope with such abnormal noise generation and blade turning, Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 2005-228867 discharges toner from the developing unit onto the photosensitive drum and stops supplying the toner to the cleaning blade. (Developer discharge control). By using the supplied toner as a lubricant, abnormal noise and blade turning generated between the cleaning blade and the photosensitive drum can be prevented.
However, in the conventional technique such as Patent Document 1, in order to prevent the noise of the cleaning blade and the turning of the blade, a predetermined amount of toner is removed from the developing unit every time the set number of printing operations are completed. To the cleaning blade. Here, the fixed amount is set to an amount necessary and sufficient for preventing abnormal noise of the cleaning blade and turning up of the blade. For this reason, an excessive amount of toner has been supplied to the cleaning blade. As described above, in order to prevent the noise of the cleaning blade and the turning of the blade, the toner in the developing unit is excessively consumed, and the toner in the developing unit cannot be used efficiently.
An object of the present invention is to reduce the amount of developer discharged by developer discharge control as much as possible and to efficiently use the developer of the developing means.

It is characterized in that it is an amount obtained by subtracting the amount accumulated for the subsequent printing from the reference amount.

<実施例1>
<Example 1>
(Image forming device)
The configuration of an example of a color image forming apparatus according to the present invention will be described with reference to FIG. In the image forming apparatus shown in the figure, each of yellow (Y), magenta (M), cyan (C), and black (Bk) is four independent process cartridges. The process cartridges Y, M, C, and Bk that are the first to fourth image forming units are arranged from the upstream side to the downstream side in the moving direction (rotation direction, arrow direction) of the
In this embodiment, the process cartridges Y, M, C, and Bk are provided with

(Toner discharge control (Developer discharge control))
Next, toner discharge control (developer discharge control) for preventing abnormal noise of the
As the printing operation is performed by the image forming apparatus, the frictional resistance between the photosensitive drums 1a to 1d and the
In the toner discharge control in the present embodiment, when the photosensitive drums 1a to 1d are driving and rotating, the
The horizontal belt-like toner image thus created moves to a position where the
Here, in the conventional toner discharge control, a predetermined amount of toner is supplied from the developing unit to the cleaning blade for every set number of printing operations. The predetermined amount is set to a certain amount that is necessary and sufficient for preventing abnormal noise of the cleaning blade and turning of the blade. By the way, according to the knowledge of the present inventor, the transfer residual toner and the retransfer toner existing on the photosensitive drum are the same as the toner discharged by the toner discharge control for preventing the noise of the cleaning blade and the turning of the blade. It has been found that the effect of. However, in the conventional toner discharge control, a predetermined amount of toner is discharged regardless of the amount of residual toner or retransfer toner. For this reason, in the conventional toner discharge control, an excessive amount of toner is supplied to the cleaning blade, and the toner in the developing unit is excessively consumed.
Therefore, in this embodiment, the toner discharge amount is optimized in the toner discharge control. Toner discharge optimization is to calculate the amount of residual toner on the photosensitive drum and the amount of retransfer toner that were not taken into consideration in the past, and are discharged from the development unit during toner discharge control according to the total value. This is to minimize the amount of toner discharged. In other words, the amount of toner discharged by the toner discharge control is determined from the reference amount necessary and sufficient for preventing abnormal noise of the cleaning blade and turning of the blade. The amount obtained by subtracting the amount accumulated for the subsequent printing is used.
A method of calculating the residual transfer toner amount and the retransfer toner amount used for optimizing the toner discharge amount will be described.
(Transfer residual toner amount)
The untransferred toner as the untransferred developer is toner that remains on the photosensitive drums 1a to 1d without being transferred to the

<実施例2>
<Example 2>
Next, Example 2 will be described. In the following description, the description of the same parts as those in the first embodiment will be omitted.
In this embodiment, as shown in FIG. 5, the toner discharge amount value Ew, which is the reference amount, is decreased as the number of prints from the initial stage of the
