Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a particle beam depth direction dose distribution measuring apparatus, a particle beam treatment apparatus for accelerating and irradiating a particle beam, and a particle beam irradiation apparatus for irradiating an irradiation object with a particle beam.
A particle beam therapy system for accelerating a particle beam such as a proton beam or heavy particle beam (carbon particle beam, etc.) with an accelerator and treating cancer using this particle beam forms an irradiation field that irradiates the affected area of the cancer with the particle beam. Have the device. The particle beam is also called a charged particle beam or an ion beam. The irradiation field forming device expands the particle beam in a direction perpendicular to the traveling direction of the particle beam according to the size of the affected part. This is called expansion of the irradiation field. As a method for expanding the irradiation field, there are a scatterer method (Non-patent Document 1) and a wobbler method (Patent Document 1 and Non-Patent Document 1). The scatterer method is a method in which a scatterer is installed in the beam path of the irradiation field forming device and the particle beam is expanded by scattering by the scatterer. On the other hand, the wobbler method is a method in which a particle beam is scanned in a circle using a pair of scanning electromagnets provided in the irradiation field forming apparatus, and the particle beam is enlarged. The scatterer method and the wobbler method may be combined. In addition, the irradiation field forming device has a Bragg peak expansion device (for example, a range modulation wheel and a ridge filter) that widens the energy distribution and expands the range in the particle beam traveling direction, and the particle beam energy (range) as the final irradiation energy. A fine degrader that adjusts to the range, a collimator that cuts particle beams unnecessary for irradiation, a dose monitor, and a beam position monitor are installed.
The dose distribution in the depth direction of the particle beam irradiated to the affected part can be measured in advance of treatment irradiation with a water phantom device (Patent Document 2) attached to the irradiation field forming device. The dose distribution in the depth direction is measured by performing beam irradiation many times while scanning the dose detector in the depth direction in the water phantom.
The dose distribution in the depth direction can be measured in advance of treatment irradiation using a multilayer ionization chamber having a structure in which high voltage electrodes and charge collecting electrodes are alternately arranged in the beam traveling direction. In the case of this multilayer ionization chamber, the dose distribution in the depth direction can be measured by one irradiation by simultaneously processing the signals from the charge collecting electrodes in each deep part (Non-patent Document 2).
A metal plate laminated in the beam traveling direction is installed in the irradiation field forming device, and the amount of charge obtained from each laminated plate is measured using a part of the beam that is not irradiated to the patient. Energy (range) can be measured (Patent Document 3). In addition, from the result obtained by installing the device in the irradiation field forming device, the energy (range) is measured, and it is monitored that irradiation is performed with the energy (range) according to the treatment plan. If it is different from the plan, a safety device can be configured to stop the beam.
The measurement of the dose distribution in the depth direction by the conventional water phantom device (Patent Document 2) is performed by attaching to the beam path at the exit of the irradiation field forming device before treating the affected area. After the measurement of the dose distribution in the depth direction, the water phantom device is moved away from the beam path so as not to block the therapeutic particle beam. Moreover, many times of irradiation are necessary to measure the dose distribution in the depth direction. Such a conventional technique cannot measure the dose distribution of the particle beam in the depth direction during treatment irradiation.
A metal plate laminated in the beam traveling direction is installed in the irradiation field forming device, and a part of the beam not irradiated to the patient is used to measure the amount of charge obtained from each laminated plate and measure the energy (range). In the method (Patent Document 3), the beam energy during the treatment irradiation can be measured, but the output signal is concentrated in the vicinity of the maximum range of the beam, so the dose distribution in the depth direction cannot be measured.
The multi-layer ionization chamber (Non-Patent Document 2) can measure the dose distribution in the depth direction with a single irradiation, but has a structure in which electrodes are stacked while ensuring a sensitive region (air layer). The dimensions increase. Therefore, it is difficult to install in the irradiation field forming apparatus.
A first object of the present invention is to provide a depth direction dose distribution measuring device, a particle beam therapy device, and a particle beam irradiation device capable of measuring a dose distribution in the depth direction of a particle beam even during treatment irradiation.
A second object of the present invention is to provide a highly safe particle beam therapy system using the depth direction dose distribution measuring apparatus and using the obtained result as a beam interlock.
A feature of the present invention that achieves the above-described object is that a particle beam irradiation apparatus includes a collimator that passes a part of the particle beam, and at least a part of the remaining particle beam that is disposed upstream of the collimator and does not pass through the collimator. A depth direction dose distribution detector having an incident beam incident portion, and provided with an arithmetic processing unit for calculating a dose distribution in the depth direction of the incident particle beam based on the detection result of the depth direction dose distribution detector That is.
The depth direction dose distribution detector includes a shield that attenuates the particle beam range continuously or stepwise, and a plurality of charge collectors arranged behind the shield and in a direction in which the range attenuation changes. An ionization chamber type charge quantity detector having an electrode, and the arithmetic processing unit performs signal processing on the output from the plurality of charge collection electrodes of the ionization chamber type charge quantity detector. At the same time, the dose distribution in the depth direction of the particle beam can be measured. In addition, the SOBP width and range can be calculated from the obtained distribution.
In the depth direction dose distribution detector described above, a material having a large mass stopping power is selected as the shielding material, the particle beam energy loss per unit length in the shielding pair is increased, and the ionization chamber type charge amount detector is reached. Reduce the distance in the depth direction. By doing so, the size can be set in the irradiation field forming apparatus.
In the present invention, a part of the particle beam blocked by the collimator is incident on the beam incident part and the dose distribution in the depth direction of the particle beam is measured. Therefore, the particle beam that has passed through the beam path formed by the collimator is irradiated ( For example, the dose distribution in the depth direction of the particle beam can be measured while irradiating the patient).
Preferably, a beam incident portion arranged on the upstream side of the collimator is attached to the collimator. Thereby, a beam incident part can be moved with a collimator, and the structure of a particle beam irradiation apparatus can be simplified.
Preferably, the deviation between the dose distribution in the depth direction (or SOBP width and range) set in the treatment plan and the dose distribution in the depth direction (or SOBP width and range) measured by the depth direction dose distribution measurement device is A safety device is provided for stopping the emission of the particle beam from the particle beam generator when a preset allowable value is exceeded. If the dose distribution in the depth direction changes during the irradiation of the particle beam irradiation target, the irradiation of the particle beam to the irradiation target can be stopped immediately by the function of the safety device. By providing the safety device described above, it is possible to prevent the particle beam from being irradiated with a dose distribution in the depth direction different from the treatment plan.
According to the present invention, the dose distribution in the depth direction of a particle beam can be measured while irradiating the particle beam.
If the measured dose distribution in the depth direction is different from the planned dose distribution, the interlock is activated to stop the beam. Thereby, a highly safe particle beam therapy system can be provided.
Hereinafter, an embodiment of the present invention will be described with reference to the drawings.

The particle beam emitted from the synchrotron 23 reaches the irradiation
A detailed configuration of the irradiation
The
The configuration of the depth direction
The depth direction
The depth direction
The
Returning to FIG. 2, in the present embodiment, a
Next, the operation of the particle beam therapy system according to the present embodiment will be described.
Before positioning the
In addition, the
Thereafter, the rotating gantry is rotated, and the
In the irradiation
Part of the remaining particle beam that has reached the upper side of the
The particle beam incident on the depth direction dose distribution detector 30 (part of the particle beam located on the left side of the broken line in FIG. 4) is incident on the
The depth direction
Further, as in the embodiment of FIG. 5, an installation method in which the

The digital

In the present embodiment, a part of the particle beam blocked by the
In the present embodiment, since the depth direction
The depth direction
The irradiation
In the irradiation
