Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a liquid crystal display device, and more particularly to a fringe field switching mode liquid crystal display device.
A conventional in-plane switching (hereinafter referred to as IPS) mode liquid crystal display device is a display method in which a horizontal electric field is applied to liquid crystal sandwiched between opposing substrates to perform display. Compared with the TN (Twisted Nematic) mode, the viewing angle characteristics are excellent, and the display system can satisfy the demand for higher image quality. However, an IPS mode liquid crystal display device generally has a configuration in which a pixel electrode and a common electrode are formed of a metal film and arranged opposite to each other on the same substrate. Compared with the TN mode, it is difficult to increase the pixel aperture ratio, so that the light use efficiency is low.
Therefore, a fringe field switching (hereinafter referred to as FFS) mode has been proposed in order to improve the aperture ratio and transmittance in an IPS mode liquid crystal display device (for example, Patent Document 1).
An FFS mode liquid crystal display device is a display method in which display is performed by applying a fringe electric field to liquid crystal sandwiched between opposing substrates. In this method, the liquid crystal is driven by a fringe electric field generated between a pixel electrode having a slit provided in an upper layer and a common electrode provided in a lower layer via an insulating film. In the FFS mode liquid crystal display device, since the pixel electrode and the common electrode are formed of a transparent conductive film, the aperture ratio and the transmittance are improved compared to the IPS mode. Further, in the FFS mode liquid crystal display device, an auxiliary capacitance is formed between the transparent conductive films, so that a transmittance loss due to the auxiliary capacitance forming portion can be reduced.
Further, in this FFS mode system, it is known that parasitic capacitance is generated between the pixel electrode and the signal line, and display quality such as image sticking of the liquid crystal display device is deteriorated. For example, after the power of the liquid crystal display device is turned off, the charge is kept in the pixel electrode for a long time, and an almost constant electric field is applied to the alignment film or the liquid crystal layer for a long time, thereby causing the image sticking phenomenon on the liquid crystal panel May occur. As a countermeasure, by making the characteristics of the thin film transistor that drives the pixel electrode a depletion type, the charge held in the pixel electrode after the power is turned off is discharged through the thin film transistor in a relatively short time. It is said that it is possible to reduce sticking (see, for example, Patent Document 2).
In the conventional FFS mode liquid crystal display device, the thin film transistor that drives the pixel electrode is made to be a depletion type to prevent seizure when the power is turned off. However, the thin film transistor should be operated at the operating temperature or for a long time. In some cases, the transistor characteristics may change, and the transistor characteristics may deviate from the depletion type characteristics. Therefore, the seizure prevention effect may not be obtained under certain conditions.
Further, in the FFS mode liquid crystal display device, the liquid crystal is driven by a fringe electric field generated between the common electrode having the slit provided in the upper layer and the pixel electrode provided in the lower layer through the insulating film. In this case, both the upper and lower layers of the pixel electrode are covered with an insulating film, and the electric charge is easily held in the pixel electrode when the power is turned off, which may increase the image sticking.
The present invention has been made to solve the above-described problems, and provides a liquid crystal display device having a simple structure capable of preventing display defects such as image sticking after power-off of an FFS mode liquid crystal display device.
First, the entire configuration of the liquid crystal display device of the present invention will be described in detail with reference to the drawings. FIG. 1 is a plan view showing a configuration of a thin film transistor (TFT) array substrate used in the liquid crystal display device according to
In FIG. 1, the liquid crystal display device according to the present embodiment is an FFS mode liquid crystal display device in which a pixel electrode and a common electrode are formed on a TFT array substrate. The liquid crystal display device is formed on the
In the display area 41, a plurality of scanning lines (gate lines) 43 and a plurality of signal lines (source lines) 44 are formed. The plurality of
A scanning
Circuit driving is performed using the above circuit configuration. Specifically, various signals from the outside are supplied to the scanning
In the
Next, a pixel configuration which is a premise of the present invention will be described with reference to FIGS. 2 and 3, the
In FIG. 2 and FIG. 3, a
A gate insulating film 11 that is a first insulating film is provided so as to cover the
In addition,
A
The
The
An interlayer insulating film 12 is formed on the pixel electrode 6, and a
A counter substrate 20 is disposed opposite to the
Next, pixel driving will be described. The liquid crystal 19 is driven by a fringe electric field between the pixel electrode 6 and the
Here, a problem when the
Therefore, in order to prevent the charge from being held in the pixel electrode 6 for a long time, as shown in FIG. 1, in the present embodiment, the pixel electrode and the adjacent pixel electrode are electrically connected by the

In addition, although the light shielding layer 52 is disposed so as to cover the entire
In the above-described embodiment, since the pixel electrode is electrically connected to the
First, the lower limit of the resistance value will be described. If the resistance value of the
Next, the upper limit of the resistance value will be described. If the resistance value of the
Further, a specific pattern size of the
6 and FIG. 7, the structure in which the pixel electrode 6 and the
Further, consider a decrease in the aperture ratio of the
By defining the upper and lower limits of the resistance value of the high resistance layer as described above, it is possible to prevent image sticking when the liquid crystal display device is turned off without lowering the display quality when the liquid crystal display device is turned on. .
