Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to an image processing apparatus, an image forming apparatus, and a program.
With the widespread use of information processing equipment such as copying machines, word processors, computers, and communication equipment, as an image forming apparatus that outputs information from these equipment to a print medium such as paper, an image using an inkjet recording head is used. Those that perform recording and those that perform image recording using electrophotography are rapidly spreading. In addition, with the increase in quality and color of visual information in the information processing equipment and communication equipment, there is an increasing demand for higher image quality and color in image forming apparatuses. As described above, in order to improve the image quality in the image forming apparatus, it is desirable to suppress the density fluctuation of the image forming apparatus.
For example, Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 2004-151820 discloses a calibration technique for periodically correcting the density as a correction technique for suppressing the density fluctuation of the image forming apparatus. According to the technique disclosed in
However, according to the technique disclosed in
On the other hand, according to the image forming apparatus disclosed in
In addition, it is preferable to measure and average the concentration fluctuations within a page and between pages at a plurality of measurement points rather than at one measurement point. However, since the size of the calibration chart is limited, it is difficult to arrange evaluation charts (multiple gradation densities) at a plurality of locations so that a plurality of measurement locations can be measured within one page.
In the image forming system disclosed in
However, according to the technique disclosed in
The present invention has been made in view of the above, and it is easy to perform density correction while realizing high image quality by performing density correction by performing calibration using a plurality of types of evaluation charts over a plurality of pages.
As shown in FIG. 8, the

Next, specific examples of the chart pattern of the evaluation chart will be described with reference to FIGS.

Returning to the flowchart shown in FIG. 8, the calibration process will be described. Next, the
The
Next, the
Here, a method of calculating the coefficient of the density gradation conversion table (conversion using the lookup table) in step S11 will be described.
A[n[i]](0 ≦ n[i] ≦ 255; i=1,2,…,m)
First, a read value obtained by averaging the patches in the

It expresses. The value m is the number of reference data. This reference data is set, for example, when the
FIG. 16 is a diagram illustrating an example of a machine difference correction value for correcting a difference for each image forming apparatus. The values exemplified in FIG. 16 are correction values corresponding to the respective plates of cyan, magenta, yellow, and black. Values J (0) and J (1023) represent correction values for the reference data value “0” and the reference data “1023” (when the bit depth of the image data is 10 bits). The machine difference correction value illustrated in FIG. 16 is set, for example, when the
そして、補正後のA1[t][n[i]]を、新たなA[t][n[i]]として用いる。
A1[t][n[i]]=A[t][n[i]]+(k(1023)−k(0))×n[i]/1023+k(0)
The corrected reference data value is A 1 [t] [n [i]], and the reference data A [t] [n [i]] is corrected as follows using the values shown in FIG. Reference data A 1 [t] [n [i]] after correction is obtained. Then, the corrected A 1 [t] [n [i]] is used as a new A [t] [n [i]].
A 1 [t] [n [i]] = A [t] [n [i]] + (k (1023) −k (0)) × n [i] / 1023 + k (0)
Next, the density gradation conversion table will be described. The density gradation conversion table is obtained by comparing a [LD] described above with reference data A [n] stored in the
The laser output value LD [n] corresponding to the input value n to the density gradation conversion table is obtained by obtaining the LD corresponding to A [n] from the a [LD] described above. By obtaining this for input values i = 0, 1,..., 255 (in the case of an 8-bit signal), a density gradation conversion table can be obtained. At this time, instead of performing the above processing on all values for the input values n = 00h, 01h... FFh (hexadecimal number) for the density gradation conversion table, ni = 00h, 11h, 22h,. The above-described processing is performed with respect to the jump value like the above, and the interpolation is performed with a spline function or the like for the other points or the linear interpolation operation is performed.
The above process will be described based on the four-way evaluation chart of FIG. In FIG. 17, the horizontal axis of the first quadrant (a) is the input value n to the density gradation conversion table, and the vertical axis is the read value (after processing) of the
The horizontal axis of the second quadrant (b) in FIG. 17 represents the average value (after processing) of each patch read by the
The graph (d) in the fourth quadrant is the density gradation conversion table LD [i], and the purpose is to obtain this table. The vertical axis and horizontal axis of the graph (f) are the same as the vertical axis and horizontal axis of the graph (d). When forming a gradation pattern for detection, the density gradation conversion table (g) shown in the graph (f) is used. The horizontal axis of the graph (e) is the same as in the third quadrant (c), and shows the relationship between the LD writing value at the time of gradation pattern creation and the reading value (after processing) of the
The density gradation conversion table can be created for each plate by the above processing. Further, when calibration is executed based on the flowchart of FIG. 8, the density gradation conversion table of the
Next, the effect of the density gradation conversion table calibration by the calibration process based on the flowchart of FIG. 8 will be described.
Mathematically against fluctuations, it becomes stronger against fluctuations by measuring and averaging a sufficient number of times and using the expected value. In the chart pattern of the
Further, in the chart pattern of the
By the way, it is uneconomical to perform calibration by always outputting the
Therefore, when starting calibration, the process is switched in step S1 in FIG. 8 depending on whether a sufficient time has passed since the previous calibration was performed. In other words, if the number of days elapsed since the previous calibration has not reached the predetermined number of days, the
For example, when calibration is performed twice on the 0th day when sufficient time has not elapsed, that is, on the same day, calibration is performed with the minimum number (4 in FIG. 9). If the
In addition, when the number of days elapsed since the previous calibration is less than the predetermined number of days, appropriate calibration can be performed by performing calibration with the number of sheets set by a function that increases according to the number of days elapsed. Since the general
