Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a metal-coated optical fiber excellent in hydrogen resistance.
One of the causes of transmission loss of an optical fiber is light absorption by a hydroxyl group (OH group). This hydroxyl group is formed by combining a defect such as a non-bridging oxygen hole center contained in the optical fiber with hydrogen. For example, when an optical fiber cable is laid on the seabed or the like, hydrogen diffuses into the optical fiber and the loss increases. This resistance to hydrogen is called hydrogen resistance and can be examined by a test called hydrogen test. . The hydrogen test is performed, for example, by leaving an optical fiber in a hydrogen atmosphere for about 40 hours and comparing the loss values measured before and after being left. As a result of such a hydrogen test, it is known that an optical fiber with poor hydrogen resistance characteristics has a large increase in the OH absorption peak at 1.38 μm and the absorption peak at 1.52 μm.
Therefore, in order to prevent hydrogen from entering the optical fiber, a metal-coated optical fiber in which the optical fiber is coated with a metal has been proposed.
Examples of the metal-coated optical fiber include a glass fiber on which a carbon coating layer and a metal coating layer are sequentially provided (for example, see Patent Document 1), and a carbon-coated optical fiber in which a carbon coating is provided on an optical fiber. Further, there is disclosed a technique in which a metal film by electroless plating and a metal film by electrolytic plating are provided in order (see, for example, Patent Document 2).
However, the conventional metal-coated optical fiber has not been sufficiently effective in preventing hydrogen from entering the optical fiber.
The present invention has been made in view of the above circumstances, and an object of the present invention is to provide a metal-coated optical fiber excellent in the effect of preventing hydrogen from entering the optical fiber.
The metal-coated optical fiber of the present invention includes an optical fiber and a metal coating formed by sequentially stacking a first plating layer, a second plating layer, and a third plating layer covering the outer periphery of the optical fiber. A metal-coated optical fiber, wherein the first plating layer is electroless copper, the second plating layer is electrolytic copper, and the third plating layer is amorphous nickel.
The third plating layer is preferably made of nickel-phosphorus, and the phosphorus content is preferably 8% by mass or more.
The third plating layer is made of nickel-boron plating, and the boron content is preferably 3% by mass or more.
It is preferable that a protective layer covering the outer periphery of the third plating layer is provided, and the protective layer is a plating film made of gold.
It is preferable that a protective layer covering the outer periphery of the third plating layer is provided, and the protective layer is a sputtered film made of carbon.
According to the metal-coated optical fiber of the present invention, since the third plating layer forming the outermost layer is made of amorphous nickel, the third plating layer is a dense layer at the operating temperature, so that the hydrogen permeability is low. Excellent in preventing hydrogen permeation.

EXAMPLES Hereinafter, although an Example and a comparative example demonstrate this invention further more concretely, this invention is not limited to a following example.
"Example"
Using an electroless copper plating bath chemical solution to which formalin is added as a reducing agent, maintaining the chemical temperature at 30 ° C., immersing the optical fiber strand in the chemical solution, and performing the above-described optical fiber strand by electroless plating A first plating layer having a thickness of 0.5 μm and made of electroless copper was formed on the outer periphery of the substrate.
Next, using the copper bromide bath chemical solution, the optical fiber strand is immersed in this chemical solution so that the optical fiber strand on which the first plating layer is formed becomes a cathode, and this chemical solution temperature is maintained at 25 ° C. Then, the cathode current density was 1.0 A / dm 2, and a second plating layer having a thickness of 40 μm and made of electrolytic copper was formed on the outer periphery of the first plating layer by electrolytic plating.
Next, an electroless nickel-phosphorus plating bath chemical solution to which hypophosphorous acid is added as a reducing agent is used, the chemical solution temperature is maintained at 90 ° C., and an optical fiber strand in which a second plating layer is formed in the chemical solution And a third plating layer having a thickness of 5 μm and made of nickel-phosphorus was formed on the outer periphery of the second plating layer by electroless plating to obtain a metal-coated optical fiber of Example.
The third plating layer of the obtained metal-coated optical fiber was evaluated by X-ray diffraction. The results are shown in FIG. From FIG. 3, it was confirmed that the third plating layer of the metal-coated optical fiber of this example was in an amorphous state.
Further, after the obtained metal-coated optical fiber was exposed to a 60 ° C., 100 atm, 100% hydrogen atmosphere for 7 days, the presence or absence of hydrogen intrusion into the metal-coated optical fiber was confirmed by the following method.
The metal-coated optical fiber was deteriorated with a deuterium (D2) lamp (wavelength: 200 nm), and the deterioration characteristic of 215 nm caused by the E ′ center (≡Si ·) of the metal-coated optical fiber was evaluated.
This evaluation method is based on the fact that when ultraviolet light is irradiated in a state where hydrogen is present in the optical fiber, hydrogen is temporarily bonded to the E ′ center (≡Si ·) and absorption at 215 nm is suppressed. Is the method.
That is, when hydrogen penetrates into the optical fiber, the degradation rate of the optical fiber is reduced as compared with the case where hydrogen does not penetrate into the optical fiber. By measuring this deterioration rate, the presence or absence of hydrogen in the optical fiber was measured.
As a result, hydrogen penetration was not confirmed in this metal-coated optical fiber.
"Comparative example"
A comparative metal-coated optical fiber was obtained in the same manner as in Example except that the third plating layer made of nickel-phosphorus was not formed.
The obtained metal-coated optical fiber was checked for hydrogen intrusion in the same manner as in the example.
As a result, hydrogen intrusion was confirmed in the metal-coated optical fiber.
Moreover, about the metal-coated optical fiber obtained in the Example, the X-ray-diffraction figure was obtained using the X-ray-diffraction apparatus. The obtained X-ray diffraction pattern is shown in FIG.
Similarly, an X-ray diffraction pattern was obtained using an X-ray diffractometer for the metal-coated optical fiber obtained in the comparative example. The obtained X-ray diffraction pattern is shown in FIG.
First, looking at the graph of FIG. 4, a very sharp peak due to crystallized copper (Cu) is seen.
When the graph of FIG. 3 is compared with the graph of FIG. 4, the sharp peak in the graph of FIG. 3 is attributed to copper (Cu) as in the graph of FIG. 4. In FIG. 3, when this sharp peak is removed, a broad mountain peak remains. This broad peak is attributed to amorphous nickel (Ni), and it was confirmed that a nickel-boron layer was formed in the outermost layer of the metal-coated optical fiber of the example.
