Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a liquid crystal display device, and more particularly to a liquid crystal display device using illumination light generated by a light emitting diode as a backlight.
大型でかつ薄型の画像表示装置の1つとして、液晶表示装置LCD(LCD:Liquid Crystal Display)が製品化されている。 2. Description of the Related Art In recent years, digitalization and high definition of television broadcasts have progressed, and a large (large screen) and thin image display device FPD (Flat Panel Display) is required as a television receiver. As one of large and thin image display devices, a liquid crystal display device LCD (LCD: Liquid Crystal Display) has been commercialized. In order to realize a thin liquid crystal display device, the backlight device incorporated therein must also be thinned.
As a backlight device of a liquid crystal display device, a surface light source device that irradiates a linear or point-like primary light source as planar light is used. In such a surface light source device, a light emitting diode (LED) is used. And a primary light source such as a cold cathode fluorescent lamp (CCFL) and a light guide plate that converts a light beam from the primary light source into planar light. A surface light source device in which a plurality of sets of light guide plates and light sources are arranged in a plane to obtain a relatively wide light emitting area is called a so-called tandem type.
For example,
As described above, the liquid crystal display device is becoming thinner and the screen size is increasing. The above-described tandem type surface light source device is advantageous for increasing the screen size and reducing the thickness of the liquid crystal display device.
In the tandem type surface light source device, as disclosed in
In the above prior art, for example, when the light from the light source advances from the left to the right when entering the light guide plate when the display screen is viewed from the front (user side), it is displayed when the user views the display screen from the right side. The image appears bright, while the display image appears dark when viewed from the left. This is because viewing the display screen from the right side looks at the light source from the front, while viewing the display screen from the left side looks at the light source from the back.
As described above, when the light from the light source is incident on the light guide plate so that the light from the light source travels in the horizontal direction of the display screen, the brightness of the display image with respect to the horizontal viewing angle of the display screen is asymmetrical. Thus, luminance unevenness depending on the viewing angle in the horizontal direction occurs. Since the user often sees the display screen at a predetermined angle in the horizontal direction with respect to the vertical line of the display screen, it is preferable to reduce the luminance unevenness depending on the viewing angle in the horizontal direction as much as possible.
Further, in the tandem type surface light source device, as described above, since a plurality of sets of the light guide plate and the light source are arranged in a plane, the assemblability (workability) of the surface light source device is lowered, and a certain light guide plate There is a possibility that the light source for supplying light to the light guide plate and the light guide plate adjacent thereto are in physical contact with each other, which may damage the light source.
The present invention has been made in view of the above problems, and is intended to improve workability in a liquid crystal display device using a so-called tandem backlight using a plurality of sets of light sources and light guide plates, or a light source. It is to provide a technique suitable for protecting the device.
In order to achieve the above object, the present invention provides a liquid crystal display device configured to display an image on a liquid crystal panel, wherein a plurality of light sources and light from the light sources are incident, and the incident light from the plurality of light sources is planar. A light guide plate that outputs light to the liquid crystal panel; a reflection sheet disposed on a back side of the light guide plate; and a support member for supporting the reflection sheet from the back side thereof. The display device has a horizontally long rectangular shape whose longitudinal direction is the horizontal direction of the display device. A plurality of the light guide plates are arranged in the vertical direction of the liquid crystal display device, and light from the light source of each light guide plate is incident thereon. The incident surface is disposed so as to face the upper side of the liquid crystal panel, and the light source is disposed so that light is incident on the light guide plate from the top to the bottom of the liquid crystal panel. The support member is a hole surrounding the light source. Wherein the but has been formed.
According to the present invention, in a liquid crystal display device using illumination light generated by a light source as a backlight, the light amount output from the light source is effectively used, and in consideration of workability and protection of the light source during manufacturing. There is an effect that can be provided.
Hereinafter, embodiments of the present invention will be described with reference to the drawings.
1A to 1D are front views of components of a liquid crystal display device according to an embodiment of the present invention. FIG. 1A is a substrate, FIG. 1B is a support member, FIG. 1C is a reflection sheet, and FIG. Indicates. Note that these are for easy understanding of one embodiment of the present invention, and components not directly related to the present invention are omitted. Further, in the display unit of the liquid crystal display device, each component is superposed in order of the substrate (FIG. 1A), the support member (FIG. 1B), the reflection sheet (FIG. 1C), and the light guide plate (FIG. 1D) from the back side. ing.
In FIG. 1A, a
In FIG. 1D, the
The
Each
In FIG. 1C, as an example, one
As described above, in this embodiment, a plurality of horizontally long light guide plates having the horizontal direction of the screen (liquid crystal panel) as the longitudinal direction are arranged in the vertical direction of the screen, and light from the
In FIG. 1B, the
The case where the left end part of the supporting
A case where the above-described constituent elements are combined will be described with reference to FIG.
FIG. 3 is a side view of a liquid crystal display device according to an embodiment of the present invention. Here, a
In FIG. 3, a
As shown in the figure, there is a slight depression on the upper part of the
In FIG. 3, the mechanism for holding each component is omitted in order to avoid complication. For example, the
In each drawing, the ratio of dimensions in each direction is an example and is not limited thereto. Moreover, the ratio of the relative dimension of each component is also the same. For example, the thickness of the
