Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a printing mechanism and a thermal printer.
2. Description of the Related Art Conventionally, there is known a thermal printer that uses the heat of a thermal head to transfer and print sublimation ink or melt ink applied to an ink ribbon onto a sheet. In this type of thermal printer, the thermal head is pressed against the platen roller side against the paper and the ink ribbon superimposed in the thickness direction on the platen roller, and the thermal head is heated while the ink ribbon is in close contact with the paper. Thus, a desired image or the like can be printed on the paper by thermally transferring the ink onto the paper.
In addition, before performing thermal transfer printing processing, the thermal head is temporarily rolled by the size corresponding to the screen size to be printed and the number of screens (number of print screens). The paper is sent to the paper output side from the pressure-contact part (thermal transfer print position) between the platen roller and the paper, and is transferred to the paper that passes between the thermal head and the platen roller while transporting the paper in the direction to return it to the paper supply unit. A thermal printer set to perform print processing is also known (see Patent Document 1).
In such a thermal printer, a thermal head is disposed on the upper side of the paper passage path (pass line), a platen roller is disposed on the lower side, and the head up position where the thermal head is separated from the platen roller; In general, it is configured to be able to switch between a head-down position where an ink ribbon and paper can be sandwiched between the platen roller and the platen roller. Then, for example, yellow ink, magenta ink, and cyan ink, which are dye-based sublimation inks, are sequentially and repeatedly applied along the winding direction (longitudinal direction of the ink ribbon) on the base film, thereby bringing the ink ribbon into close contact with the paper. In the state, it is sandwiched between the thermal head set at the head down position and the platen roller, transported to the paper feed unit side, sublimates yellow ink by the heat of the heating element, and adheres to the print screen of the paper, then the thermal head Is switched from the head down position to the head up position, the nipping state between the thermal head and the platen roller is released, the paper is transported toward the paper output side by the amount printed by yellow ink, and the thermal head and the platen roller are again connected. Thus, the paper and the ink ribbon are clamped at a predetermined pressure. Subsequently, similarly to the yellow ink, the magenta ink is thermally transferred to the paper by the heat of the heating element, and then the cyan ink is thermally transferred to the paper in the same procedure, whereby the magenta image and the cyan image are transferred to the yellow image. Can be printed on paper.
However, streak-like stains extending in the width direction (hereinafter referred to as “horizontal streaks”) may occur on the paper on which the thermal transfer printing process has been performed by the thermal printer having the above-described configuration. As a result of intensive studies on the cause of horizontal stripes on the paper, the present inventors have found the following points.
Usually, the width direction of the ink ribbon is set larger than the width direction of the paper. When attention is paid to the ink ribbon after the thermal transfer process, the central portion (used portion) in the width direction of the ink ribbon where the ink is transferred to the paper is heated and deformed by the heating element, and the tensile force in the winding direction However, both sides in the width direction (unused parts) where the ink does not overlap the paper and the ink is not transferred to the paper are not heated, and the central part in the width direction is not heated. The tension (the degree of tension of the ink ribbon itself, the degree of tension) is relatively lower than both side portions in the width direction, and the tension varies in the width direction of the ink ribbon. If such an ink ribbon is continuously pulled in the take-up direction even after the thermal transfer process, a force that averages uneven tension in the width direction acts on the ink ribbon. It is considered that relatively high tension (tension) is applied to the portion. Then, when the paper is overlapped with the ink ribbon with uneven tension in the width direction and passed between the thermal head and the platen roller set at the head down position, the link ribbon of the paper is used. It is considered that a tension higher than that of the unused portion of the ink ribbon acts on the portion overlapping with the portion, and excess ink easily adheres to the paper, and horizontal stripes are generated by the ink of the ink ribbon. Therefore, the region of the paper in which the horizontal stripes are generated along the transport direction during the thermal transfer printing process is proportional to or approximately proportional to the time from when the tension along the width direction of the ink ribbon becomes uniform from when the tension is uneven. Increase along the longitudinal direction of the paper.
As a matter of course, the larger the horizontal stripe generation area, the lower the print quality, and the horizontal stripe generation area is formed between the print screen and the next print screen of the paper. If the width of the horizontal streak is increased, the cut area to be secured on the paper becomes longer along the paper transport direction, resulting in waste of the paper. A malfunction occurs.
The present invention has been made paying attention to such problems, and its main purpose is to improve the print quality by suppressing and preventing the occurrence of horizontal stripes and to minimize the cut portion of the paper. It is an object of the present invention to provide a printing mechanism and a thermal printer.
As described above, the present inventors conducted extensive research on the cause of horizontal streaks in the paper. As a result, in the conventional printing mechanism, the thermal head is moved from the open position where the paper and the ink ribbon are not sandwiched between the platen and the print head. When the paper ribbon and the ribbon are sandwiched between the platen and the position where the ink ribbon can be sandwiched, the ink ribbon is pulled in the winding direction, that is, the ink ribbon is linearly or substantially straight along the ink ribbon passage path. The tension in the width direction of the ink ribbon is not uniform when the thermal head is switched to the nipping position because it is transported, and the direction of winding the ink ribbon with the uneven tension in close contact with the paper in this way The tension of the ink ribbon will be equalized over time, but the thermal head will be opened. From the time of switching from the position to the sandwiching position until the tension of the ink ribbon is equalized, it has been found that extra ink adheres to the paper due to the uneven tension of the ink ribbon and a horizontal stripe occurs. .
The printing mechanism and thermal printer of the present invention have been devised based on such knowledge.
That is, according to the present invention, a paper and an ink ribbon are disposed between a thermal head having a heat generating element and a thermal head, which is disposed between a paper feeding unit and a paper discharging unit that can store paper wound in a roll shape. It is a printing mechanism equipped with a platen that can be sandwiched, and is configured to be able to reciprocate the paper supplied from the paper feed unit between the thermal head and the platen, either during the forward or backward conveyance of the paper In either case, the thermal head can be placed in an open position where the paper and the ink ribbon are not sandwiched between the platen and the thermal head can be sandwiched between the platen and the thermal head. Heat is applied to the ink ribbon by a heating element with the ink ribbon superimposed on the paper that is placed between the thermal head and the platen. Thus performs a thermal transfer printing process in the paper. The printing mechanism of the present invention is characterized in that the thermal head is switched from the open position to the sandwiching position in a state where the ink ribbon is slackened.
Here, “paper forward transport” means that the paper is transported from the paper feed unit side toward the paper discharge unit side, and “paper backward transport” means that the paper is fed from the paper discharge unit side. This means that the paper is conveyed toward the paper part side. The printing mechanism of the present invention includes both an aspect in which the thermal transfer printing process for the paper is performed during the forward conveyance of the paper and an aspect in which the thermal transfer printing process for the paper is performed during the backward conveyance of the paper.
With such a printing mechanism, when the thermal head is switched from the release position to the sandwiching position while the ink ribbon is slackened, a uniform tension acts in the width direction on the ink ribbon at the time of switching. Therefore, in comparison with the conventional mode in which the thermal head is switched from the release position to the sandwiching position in a state where the ink ribbon is tensioned in the winding direction, the printing mechanism of the present invention is Since the tension along the width direction acting on the ink ribbon is equalized when the ink ribbon and paper are sandwiched between the platen roller and the paper ribbon, the ink ribbon is transported in the winding direction in that state. When the paper is transported in the print processing direction, even tension is applied to the paper that is in close contact with the ink ribbon, which prevents or prevents excess ink from adhering to the paper. Print processing can be performed.
In addition, since the time when the tension in the width direction of the ink ribbon becomes equal is the same as or substantially the same as the time when the thermal head is switched from the release position to the sandwiching position, the tension along the width direction of the ink ribbon is uneven. It is possible to reduce the occurrence region of the horizontal stripes that can appear on the paper in proportion to or approximately in proportion to the time from the time point until equalization. As a result, there is a problem that occurs when the horizontal streak generation area increases along the longitudinal direction of the paper, that is, the horizontal streak appears on the print screen and print quality deteriorates, or the cut area that should be secured on the paper is transported by the paper. The problem of lengthening along the direction and leading to waste of paper can be solved.
Japanese Patent Laid-Open No. 2003-94751 discloses a thermal transfer printer in which an ink ribbon positioned between a thermal head and a supply core is loosened in the middle of up / down of the thermal head. The printer is a single-color thermal transfer printer in which the paper transport direction is always a constant direction, and the paper is not returned to the paper feed unit side during print processing. In addition, the thermal transfer printer described in the publication, when there is a speed difference between the paper conveyance speed and the ink ribbon winding speed, loosens the ink ribbon positioned between the thermal head and the supply core, By synchronizing the winding speed of the paper and the ink ribbon in the middle of the head down of the head, it is possible to eliminate printing stains caused by the slip of the ink ribbon with respect to the paper. The purpose and focus of the ribbon are very different, and the issues and technical ideas to be solved are completely different.
In particular, as described above, the printing mechanism of the present invention can reduce the horizontal streak generation region as much as possible. Therefore, when the thermal head is switched from the release position to the sandwiching position, the thermal head is moved to the ink ribbon. It is effective to set so that the cut area formed between the print screens, which are the thermal transfer print target areas, can be pressed through the sheet. In other words, even if the cut area to be secured is set to a minimum size, it is possible to keep the area where the horizontal stripes can occur within a relatively narrow cut area without causing waste of paper. The print quality can be improved.
In order to suppress the occurrence of horizontal stripes due to the remaining heat of the thermal head, a mode in which the bias energization time of the heat generating element is set to be long is conceivable. On the other hand, as described above, the printing mechanism of the present invention can effectively suppress and prevent the occurrence of horizontal stripes, so that it is not necessary to set the bias energization time of the heating element long, and the print processing time Can be shortened, and as a result, the print processing capability can be improved.
In addition, the thermal head is pressed against the ink ribbon, paper, and platen roller when the thermal head is enlarged and switched from the open position to the nipping position so that high-quality printing can be performed on large-size paper. When the pressure (hereinafter referred to as “head pressure”) is set to a large value, the heat dissipation efficiency decreases as the thermal head becomes larger. Therefore, immediately after switching from the open position to the sandwiching position, excess ink adheres to the paper due to residual heat. In addition, the horizontal stripes are likely to occur, and the thermal head has a large head pressure, so that when the thermal head is switched from the open position to the nipping position on the paper, excess ink adheres to the paper and the horizontal stripes are also likely to occur. it is conceivable that. These lateral stripes are considered to be generated continuously from the time when the thermal head is switched from the release position to the sandwiching position until the time when the uneven tension in the width direction of the ink ribbon is eliminated or substantially eliminated.
However, as described above, the printing mechanism according to the present invention has a configuration in which the tension along the width direction of the ink ribbon is equal or substantially equal when the thermal head is switched from the release position to the sandwiching position. Even when the size of the head is increased and the head pressure is increased, the horizontal streak generation area on the paper can be made as small as possible. In addition, there is a possibility that a mark due to the head pressure (hereinafter referred to as “indentation”) may remain on the paper. However, if the thermal head switched from the release position to the sandwiching position is set so as to press the cut area, the impression will not be generated. It can be prevented from appearing on the print screen, which contributes to the improvement of print quality.
In addition, a thermal printer according to the present invention includes a paper feed unit that can store paper wound in a roll shape, a paper discharge unit that discharges paper as cut paper cut to a predetermined size, a paper feed unit, and paper discharge And the above-described printing mechanism disposed between the printing unit and the printing unit. Such a thermal printer exhibits various effects obtained by the above-described printing mechanism and is excellent in practicality.
According to the present invention, it is possible to provide a printing mechanism and a thermal printer capable of suppressing and preventing the occurrence of horizontal stripes to improve print quality and minimizing a cut area on a sheet.
Hereinafter, an embodiment of the present invention will be described with reference to the drawings.

As shown in FIG. 1, the
The
The platen roller 32 can sandwich the paper S with the
The

The peeling

Next, the operation and action of the
First, the paper S wound in a roll shape by the
In the
After finishing the thermal transfer process of the first ink (yellow ink in the present embodiment), the
Further, in the
In addition, the
In order to eliminate such problems, the
After the thermal transfer printing process by the
As described above, the
Moreover, in the
Furthermore, as described above, the
In addition, as described above, the
In addition, this invention is not limited to embodiment mentioned above. For example, in the above-described embodiment, the printing direction which is the paper conveyance direction when performing the thermal transfer printing process is exemplified as the return conveyance direction. However, the printing direction matches the forward conveyance direction, and the thermal transfer printing process for the paper is performed. It is also possible to adopt a mode in which the paper is conveyed during the forward conveyance of the paper. In this case, the thermal head is disposed at the sandwiching position during the forward transport, and the thermal head is disposed at the open position during the backward transport.
A platen (plate template) may be applied as a platen disposed at a position facing the thermal head.
Furthermore, it is possible to adopt a mode in which a thermal head is disposed below the paper passage path (pass line) and a platen is disposed on the upper side. In this case, the paper and ink are placed between the platen and the platen. The thermal head sandwiching position where the ribbon can be sandwiched is the head up position, and the open position where the paper and the ink ribbon are not sandwiched between the platen and the platen is the head down position.
The printing mechanism according to the present invention is not limited to a printer other than a color printer, a thermal printer that sublimates ink, a thermal printer that melts ink, or various printers other than a thermal printer, such as an inkjet printer.
