Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to an electro-optical device and an electronic apparatus.
In recent years, organic EL devices and liquid crystal devices have been developed as electro-optical devices. In particular, organic EL devices are expected to be applied to mobile phones, personal computers, in-vehicle monitors and the like as thin and light self-luminous elements. Recently, a highly heat-resistant glass substrate having a thickness of 50 μm or more to 100 μm or less has been developed, and a flexible and highly functional organic EL device having a built-in peripheral drive circuit has been developed (see Patent Document 1). Research is also being conducted on applications such as electronic paper equipped with. In addition, a solar cell having flexibility that can be placed on a bent surface has also been studied.
However, the organic EL device using such a thin glass substrate has a problem that it is difficult to handle because it is weak against mechanical shock and is thin. Patent Document 2 proposes a liquid crystal device having a similar structure in which a liquid crystal substrate using a thin glass substrate is reinforced with a thick polarizing plate having a thickness of 0.3 mm and these are integrated by sandwiching them with a laminate film. (See FIG. 7 of Patent Document 2).
However, when the laminate film and the thin glass substrate are integrated, the impact resistance is improved because the destruction phenomenon of the substrate caused by the impact from the outside is suppressed, but it still has sufficient impact resistance. Is hard to say. In addition, there is a problem that flexibility, that is, flexibility, which is important in the use of electronic paper, is impaired.
Further, Patent Document 2 describes that the above structure can be applied to an organic EL device (see paragraph [0014] of Patent Document 2). However, when applied to the organic EL device, the thickness of the laminate film is described. Is not disclosed, and there is no disclosure about means for eliminating the decrease in flexibility when the laminate film is thickened and the decrease in impact resistance when the laminate film is thinned. That is, no means for achieving both flexibility and impact resistance is disclosed. Therefore, there is a problem that only an organic EL device corresponding to only one side of flexibility and impact resistance can be provided.
SUMMARY An advantage of some aspects of the invention is to solve at least a part of the problems described above, and specifically, the invention can be implemented as the following forms or application examples.
Application Example 1 An electro-optical device according to this application example includes an optical functional element that performs at least one of input, output, and modulation of light, the optical functional element, the outside of the electro-optical device, A functional substrate having an optical functional surface that transmits and receives light between the optical functional surface and a normal direction of the optical functional surface, and is provided so as to overlap at least the optical functional surface, and has optical transparency and dilatancy characteristics And a buffer member.
According to this, the buffer member has a light transmission property and a dilatancy characteristic (a characteristic of reversibly performing an operation of hardening when the fluctuation rate of the shear stress is large, and deforming when it is small). A typical example of an event with a large rate of fluctuation of shear stress is a collision with another object. In the event of a collision, the buffer member hardens and disperses the shear stress within the functional substrate. Therefore, the stress per unit area applied to the functional substrate is lowered. That is, the impact resistance of the electro-optical device can be improved without degrading the optical characteristics.
A typical example of an event where the shear stress variation rate is small is bending of an electro-optical device. When the fluctuation rate of the shear stress is small, the buffer member is kept in a soft state, so that the electro-optical device can be easily bent.

When the fluctuation rate of the surface shear stress of the buffer member is small, it can be easily deformed, so that dust or the like may adhere and be buried. By covering the buffer member with the cover layer, it is possible to suppress deterioration in image quality due to dust and the like being buried.

In addition, since a substance that is in a liquid state without being subjected to shear stress can be used as the buffer member, the options of the buffer member can be expanded.

It is characterized by being dispersed in.

It becomes possible to do.

Hereinafter, embodiments of the present invention will be described. This embodiment shows a part of the present invention and does not limit the present invention, and can be arbitrarily changed within the scope of the technical idea of the present invention. Moreover, in each figure shown below, in order to make each layer and each member the size which can be recognized on drawing, the scale is varied for each layer and each member.
First Embodiment: Organic EL Device as an Electro-Optical Device
First, an organic EL device as an electro-optical device using the
This
Of course, according to the technical idea of the present invention, an active matrix using TFT or the like is not indispensable. Even if the present invention is implemented using an element substrate for a simple matrix and the simple matrix is driven, the same effect can be obtained at low cost. can get.
A data
Further, each of the pixels X includes a switching
According to the
Next, specific modes of the
First, the configuration of the
FIG. 2 is a diagram showing a TFT element substrate (hereinafter referred to as “element substrate”) that causes the light emitting layer 12 (see FIG. 3) to emit light by the above-described various wirings, TFTs, and various circuits formed on the
One of red (R), green (G), and blue (B) light is extracted from the pixel X shown in FIG. 1, and the display region RGB shown in FIG. 2 is formed. In the
Scanning
In addition, the entire area including the actual display area 4 (optical functional surface 202) supported by the
Here, the dilatancy characteristic will be briefly described. The dilatancy characteristic is a characteristic of “reversibly performing an operation of hardening when the fluctuation rate of the shear stress is large and deforming when the fluctuation rate is small”.
A typical example of an event having a large fluctuation rate of shear stress is an impact caused by a collision with another object. When receiving an impact, the
A typical example of an event where the shear stress fluctuation rate is small is bending of the
When the bottom emission type is used as the
(Second embodiment: cross-sectional structure of organic EL device)
Next, a cross-sectional structure of an organic EL device as an electro-optical device will be described with reference to FIG. Since the
The
As shown in FIG. 3, in the
On the
In the present embodiment, the
As a material for forming the
For the
The
A triarylamine (ATP) multimer hole injection layer, a TDP (triphenyldiamine) -based hole transport layer, and an aluminum quinolinol (Alq3) layer (electron transport layer) are formed on the lower layer or the upper layer of the light-emitting
An electrode
In the present embodiment, the electrode
An
Since the
Moreover, as the curing agent that reacts with the epoxy monomer / oligomer, one that forms a cured film with excellent electrical insulation and adhesiveness, high hardness, toughness, and excellent heat resistance, excellent transparency, and curing properties. An addition polymerization type with little variation is preferable. For example, 3-methyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydrophthalic anhydride, methyl-3,6-endomethylene-1,2,3,6-tetrahydrophthalic anhydride, 1,2,4,5-benzene Acid anhydride curing agents such as tetracarboxylic dianhydride and 3,3 ′, 4,4′-benzophenone tetracarboxylic dianhydride are preferred. Furthermore, low-temperature curing is facilitated by adding trace amounts of amine compounds such as alcohols and aminophenols that have a high molecular weight and are difficult to volatilize such as 1,6-hexanediol as reaction accelerators that promote the reaction (ring opening) of acid anhydrides. Become. These curings are performed by heating in the range of 60 to 100 ° C., and the cured film becomes a polymer having an ester bond.
In addition, a cation-releasing photopolymerization initiator often used to shorten the curing time may be used, but it is preferable that the reaction is slow so that the curing shrinkage does not rapidly progress, and the viscosity decreases due to heating after coating. It is preferable to finally form a cured product using thermosetting so as to promote flattening.
Furthermore, additives such as a silane coupling agent that improves the adhesion to the electrode
The viscosity of each raw material is preferably 1000 mPa · s (room temperature: 25 ° C.) or more. This is because it does not penetrate into the
Further, the optimum film thickness of the
Moreover, as a characteristic after hardening, it is preferable that the elastic modulus of the
A
The elastic modulus of the
Further, the
Further, in the present embodiment, since the
Further, a sealing
On the lower surface of the sealing
Further, each of the
As described above, in the
Further, a filling layer 34 (adhesive layer) made of a thermosetting resin is formed between the
The packed
Moreover, as the curing agent that reacts with the epoxy monomer / oligomer, an addition polymerization type that is excellent in electrical insulation, forms a tough and heat-resistant cured film, is excellent in transparency, and has little variation in curing. Is good. For example, 3-methyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydrophthalic anhydride, methyl-3,6-endomethylene-1,2,3,6-tetrahydrophthalic anhydride, 1,2,4,5-benzene An acid anhydride curing agent such as tetracarboxylic dianhydride, 3,3 ′, 4,4′-benzophenone tetracarboxylic dianhydride, or a polymer thereof is preferable. These curings are performed in a range of 60 to 100 ° C., and the cured film becomes a polymer having an ester bond that is excellent in adhesion to silicon oxynitride. Furthermore, curing at a low temperature and in a short time becomes possible by adding a relatively high molecular weight material such as an aromatic amine, alcohol, aminophenol or the like as a curing accelerator.
The viscosity at the time of application is preferably 100 mPa · s to 1000 mPa · s (room temperature). The reason is that the material filling property into the space after pasting is taken into consideration, and a material in which curing starts after the viscosity once decreases immediately after heating is preferable. Further, in order to make it difficult for bubbles to be generated when the pressure is reduced during bonding, it is preferable that the water content is a material adjusted to 100 ppm or less.
The film thickness of the
And the
Here, as the
It is also preferable to provide a cover layer on the surface side of the buffer member 201 (the surface opposite to the optical function surface 202). FIG. 4 is a cross-sectional view of the state in which the
It is also preferable to provide a transparent
Further, as the
Further, instead of the
It is preferable that the
In addition, a liquid dilatant material sealed in a sheet-like bag may be used as the
Moreover, it is preferable that the refractive index of the above-described
(Third Embodiment: Configuration of Buffer Member: Arrangement)
Hereinafter, another configuration using the

The above-described structure may be used in an overlapping manner. For example, as shown in FIG. 8, the entire surface of the
