When manufacturing a liquid crystal display device, it is necessary to enclose a liquid crystal between a pair of substrates, and a liquid crystal injection method and an ODF method are known as the encapsulating method of the liquid crystal. In the liquid crystal injection method, a pair of substrates on which various wirings are formed, for example, an array substrate and a color filter substrate are bonded to each other with a sealing material so that the surfaces face each other, and then the pair of substrates and the sealing material In this method, liquid crystal is sealed in a region surrounded by. On the other hand, in the ODF method, before the array substrate on which various wirings are formed and the color filter substrate are bonded together, a sealing material is applied along the outer peripheral side of the substrate disposed on the lower side, and then the liquid crystal is dropped. Then, the sealing material is cured by covering the upper substrate.

Currently, liquid crystal display devices are becoming thinner and larger, but when liquid crystal is sealed using the liquid crystal injection method, if the liquid crystal display device is thin, sealing after liquid crystal injection is difficult and large. However, this liquid crystal display device has a problem that it takes a long time to inject liquid crystal. Therefore, in recent years, the ODF method has attracted attention as a method for manufacturing thin and large liquid crystal display devices.

However, in the manufacturing process of the liquid crystal display device using the ODF method, when the liquid crystal is injected,
Since the ultraviolet curable sealing material comes into contact with the liquid crystal in an uncured state, a large amount of impurities and constituent components in the sealing material may be eluted into the liquid crystal layer. If impurities or constituent components in these sealing materials are eluted in the liquid crystal, the liquid crystal is deteriorated, which causes a deterioration in display quality.

In order to solve this problem, Patent Document 1 below discloses an invention in which contact between an uncured seal layer and liquid crystal is suppressed in a method for manufacturing a liquid crystal display device employing an ODF method. That is, a spacer is formed on the outer edge of one of the first and second transparent substrates of the liquid crystal display device, a seal layer is formed on the spacer, and after dropping the liquid crystal by the ODF method, In this method, the substrates are bonded together to cure the seal layer. According to the method for manufacturing a liquid crystal display device disclosed in Patent Document 1 below, the liquid crystal flow that spreads when the two substrates are bonded together is blocked by the spacer by the configuration as described above, and thus is uncured. The liquid crystal is prevented from coming into contact with the sealing layer.

In both the liquid crystal injection method and the ODF method, conventionally, irradiation with ultraviolet light for curing the sealing material has been performed from the array substrate side. This is because a light shielding layer for suppressing light leakage is formed on the color filter substrate side, so that ultraviolet light cannot be applied to the sealing material. In addition, providing an opening for transmitting ultraviolet light, such as a hole or a slit, in the light shielding layer is a factor of light leakage, and thus cannot normally be employed.

For this reason, conventionally, irradiation with ultraviolet light for curing the sealing material has been performed from the array substrate side, but a light-impermeable metal wiring is routed around a non-display area of the array substrate. For this reason, in order to irradiate the sealing material with ultraviolet light, it is necessary to apply the sealing material while avoiding the metal wiring, or to provide an opening through which the ultraviolet light is transmitted in the metal wiring.

However, if the sealing material is applied while avoiding the metal wiring, there is a problem that the display area becomes relatively narrow because it is necessary to make a large non-display area. Further, if an opening is provided in the metal wiring, the electric resistance of the metal wiring increases, and the potential applied to the metal wiring fluctuates, so that there is a problem that display quality is deteriorated.

On the other hand, in order to solve the above-described problems, Patent Document 2 below efficiently seals from the array substrate side even when the sealing material is applied so as to overlap the light shielding layer of the color filter substrate in plan view. An invention of a liquid crystal panel capable of irradiating a material with ultraviolet light is disclosed. That is, according to the invention of the liquid crystal panel disclosed in Patent Document 2 below, in order to efficiently irradiate ultraviolet light in accordance with the region where the sealing material is formed, the metal wiring width is required in the region that needs to be irradiated. In order to irradiate the required amount of ultraviolet light, the metal wiring width is widened in areas where irradiation is not necessary to ensure conductivity, and the overall resistance of the metal wiring is reduced. Can be contained within a predetermined range. As a result, according to the liquid crystal panel disclosed in Patent Document 2 below, even if the sealing material is formed so as to overlap the light shielding layer of the color filter substrate in plan view, the peripheral portion of the liquid crystal panel is effectively utilized. It is said that it will be possible to meet the demand for narrowing the frame.

However, in the liquid crystal display device disclosed in Patent Document 1, since the spacer is formed at the position where the sealing material layer is formed, the thickness of the liquid crystal display device is increased by the thickness of the spacer. Therefore, it is difficult to reduce the thickness of the liquid crystal display device.

On the other hand, in the liquid crystal panel disclosed in Patent Document 2, a metal wiring width is narrowed in a region that needs to be irradiated so that a large amount of ultraviolet light can be transmitted and the sealing material can be cured quickly, thereby reducing the contact time with the liquid crystal. The other portions can be shortened, and the metal wiring can be widened in other portions to ensure conductivity. However, an increase in electrical resistance is inevitable due to the narrowed portion of the metal wiring,
In addition, since the arrangement of the metal wiring is limited, the arrangement of the metal wiring becomes complicated, and free wiring design becomes difficult.

As a result of various studies to solve the problems of the prior art as described above, the present inventors apparently have a light shielding member formed on the color filter substrate that is opaque to visible light, but has ultraviolet light. As a result, it has been found that the sealing material can be cured by irradiating ultraviolet light from the color filter substrate side, and the invention has been completed. That is, the present invention provides a liquid crystal display device that can be cured by irradiating ultraviolet light from the color filter substrate side in a liquid crystal display device manufactured by the ODF method, and a method for manufacturing the same. .

In the liquid crystal display device of the present invention, the substrate having the color filter layer formed in the display area, that is, the light shielding layer formed in the peripheral portion of the color filter substrate is at least 2 in a position overlapping the sealing material in plan view. It is assumed that it is composed of a layer in which color filter layers of colors or more are laminated. That is, since the color filter layer transmits visible light of the same color as the color filter layer, the liquid crystal display device of the present invention uses a layer in which at least two or more color filter layers are laminated, and transmits visible light. The light is shielded so that it can transmit ultraviolet light.

Since the human eye can see visible light but not ultraviolet light, the layer that can transmit ultraviolet light but not visible light functions as a light-shielding layer, and displays image quality even if the ultraviolet light component from the light source leaks. Will not be affected. Therefore, the color filter layer of two or more colors used in the present invention does not necessarily need to be a completely transparent color filter layer for ultraviolet light as long as visible light can be substantially completely blocked. The ultraviolet light may be partially absorbed by the color filter layer. As such two or more color filter layers used in the present invention, commercially available color filter layers can be used in appropriate combination.

In addition, in the liquid crystal display device of the present invention, the sealing material applied in a closed loop shape to the periphery of the pair of substrates can be cured by irradiating ultraviolet light from the color filter substrate side. In order to transmit ultraviolet light for curing the sealing material, it is no longer necessary to provide holes or cuts in the metal wiring formed on the periphery of the array substrate, thus suppressing an increase in electrical resistance of the metal wiring on the array substrate can do. Furthermore, according to the liquid crystal display device of the present invention, the metal wiring on the array substrate side can be freely formed, so that the degree of freedom in substrate design is increased.

In the liquid crystal display device of the present invention, the two or more color filter layers functioning as a light-shielding layer are a plurality of colors used in a substrate having a color filter layer formed in a display region, that is, a color filter substrate. Same color as the filter layer. Therefore, according to the liquid crystal display device of the present invention, the two or more color filter layers functioning as a light shielding layer can be formed simultaneously with the color filter layer formed in the display region of the color filter substrate. There is no need to add manufacturing processes and materials, and manufacturing costs can be reduced.

According to the liquid crystal display device of the present invention, the light-shielding layer composed of the region in which the color filter layers of at least two colors or more are laminated is formed at the position overlapping the sealing material in plan view, and the other part is made of the metal film or black Since it is formed of a resin film, the sealing material can be cured by irradiating ultraviolet light from the color filter substrate side, and the other part is formed of a light-impermeable metal film or a black resin film. Therefore, it is possible to provide a liquid crystal display device that has a higher light shielding property and less influence on image display due to light leakage. Further, since the light-impermeable metal film and the black resin film are materials that are conventionally used as a light shielding member, it is not necessary to add a new manufacturing process and material.
