Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to an image forming apparatus such as a copying machine, a printer, and a fax machine, and more particularly to an image forming apparatus using an intermediate transfer member.
2. Description of the Related Art Conventionally, an image forming apparatus configured as a copying machine or a combination machine thereof includes an image carrier on which a toner image is formed on a surface while being rotated, and a transfer device that transfers the toner image to a transfer material. The image bearing member has a cleaning member that cleans the surface of the image carrier by removing residual toner adhering to the surface of the image carrier after the toner image is transferred, and a brush that is in contact with the surface of the image carrier and is rotated while being driven. A configuration including a lubricant application member that applies a lubricant to a body surface is known (see, for example, Patent Document 1).
In this type of image forming apparatus, since the lubricant is applied to the surface of the image carrier, the coefficient of friction with respect to the toner on the surface of the image carrier can be reduced, whereby the toner image formed on the surface of the image carrier can be reduced. Occurrence of transfer failure when transferring to a transfer material can be suppressed, and the image quality of the transferred toner image can be improved. In particular, it is possible to suppress the occurrence of a character part dropout phenomenon in which a part of a character image is lacking in a worm-eaten shape and to improve the image quality. Further, it has the effect of preventing toner filming on the surface of the image carrier and suppressing the abrasion of the surface layer, and contributes to extending the life of the image carrier.
However, if a lubricant is applied to the surface of the image carrier, the coefficient of friction with respect to the toner on the surface decreases, so if the amount of lubricant adhering to the surface of the image carrier becomes uneven, the unevenness of the amount of adhesion causes the image carrier. In some cases, the toner image formed on the body surface has a non-uniform toner adhesion amount, resulting in uneven density in the toner image, and the formed image quality may deteriorate. That is, the toner adhesion amount decreases on the surface portion of the image carrier where the lubricant adhesion amount is large, and conversely, a large amount of toner adheres to the portion where the lubricant adhesion amount is small, thereby causing uneven density in the toner image. Will occur. In particular, uneven density tends to occur in a low-density toner image.
Further, the lubricant applied on the photoreceptor is peeled off mainly by the toner that comes into contact with it, and is transferred or cleaned together with the toner. Therefore, the amount of lubricant adhering on the photoconductor is different between the output image, the white solid portion (blank portion) and the black solid portion (toner adhering portion), and the vertical blackish in the sub scanning direction (photoconductor circumferential direction). When a continuous image such as the above is output, the amount of lubricant adhering to the black belt portion decreases, and the amount of adhering increases in other white solid portions.
Accordingly, when printing is continued at the same position in the main scanning direction as in the case of a vertical white belt, unevenness in the density of the toner image occurs due to uneven amount of lubricant adhesion. In particular, uneven density tends to occur in low density images.
In recent years, the toner has become more circular and smaller in size due to polymerized toner. If the lubricant on the photoconductor continues to be lowered, the toner will slip through the cleaning blade, resulting in poor cleaning and cleaning. The downstream charge is contaminated with toner.
In
Patent Document 3 discloses a technique for preventing filming and always supplying a stable lubricant.
However, it has not been sufficient for solving the above conventional problems. Even if the lubricant application capability is stable, for example, in extreme cases, when vertical black belt images are output continuously, the lubricant adheres to the photoconductor at the vertical black belt portion and other areas where toner consumption is low. Since a difference occurs in the amount, there is a problem that density unevenness occurs when a halftone image or the like is output during or immediately after that.
Therefore, the present invention has been made in view of the above-mentioned problems, and its problem is that the lubricant applied to the surface of the image carrier is attached regardless of the output image by a relatively simple and low-cost configuration. It is an object of the present invention to provide an image forming apparatus capable of ensuring the uniformity of the amount.
The features of the present invention, which is a means for solving the above problems, are listed below.
In the image forming apparatus of the present invention, the image area is divided in the main scanning direction, the print pixels are counted, the toner consumption amount is detected for each area, and the toner consumption amount is a constant level in a part of the area. When it increases more than this, it can be judged that the lubricant adhesion amount in that region has decreased, and the lubricant application amount can be increased.
Further, in the image forming apparatus of the present invention, the application amount adjusting means can be realized by controlling the drive time of the image carrier and the lubricant application brush in contact therewith.
Further, in the image forming apparatus of the present invention, the machine adjustment time is set outside the customer use time by performing the lubricant application mode in the normal operation after the print output operation is completed. Can improve usability.
Further, in the image forming apparatus of the present invention, when a large number of sheets are continuously passed, the interruption is performed during the continuous passing and the lubricant application mode is performed.
Further, in the image forming apparatus of the present invention, the effect of forced toner consumption can be maximized by reducing the area divided in the main scanning direction to one pixel which is the minimum unit of the written image.
Further, in the image forming apparatus of the present invention, the lubricant coating amount uniformity on the photoconductor is improved by applying the lubricant over one rotation of the photoconductor.
In the image forming apparatus of the present invention, the lubricant is further composed of a metal stearate.
The present invention, which is a means for solving the above problems, has the following specific effects.
As described above, the image forming apparatus according to the present invention reduces the difference in the amount of lubricant adhering to the image carrier due to the difference in the amount of toner input to the image carrier for each region divided in the main scanning direction. Therefore, the amount of lubricant attached can always be controlled to an optimum and stable state, and an image having no abnormal image such as density unevenness or transfer failure can be provided.

The write control circuit calculates the number of write pixels based on the color separation image data of each color, and transmits the result to the main control unit. The main control unit performs predetermined control for each color developing device based on the calculated value of the number of write pixels sent from the write control circuit.

In this embodiment, zinc stearate is used as a solid lubricant and optimized. Another solid lubricant is, for example, a dry solid hydrophobic lubricant. Typical examples include zinc stearate, barium stearate, lead stearate, iron stearate, nickel stearate, cobalt stearate, copper stearate, strontium stearate, calcium stearate, cadmium stearate, magnesium stearate, olein Zinc acid, Manganese oleate, Iron oleate, Cobalt oleate, Lead oleate, Magnesium oleate, Copper oleate, Palmitic acid, Cobalt zinc palmitate, Copper palmitate, Magnesium palmitate, Aluminum palmitate, Calcium palmitate Relatively higher fatty acids such as lead caprylate, lead caproate, zinc linolenate, cobalt linolenate, calcium linolenate and cadmium ricolinolenate. Natural wax such as carnauba wax may also be used.

FIG. 4 is a diagram schematically showing a state in which the main scanning direction is subdivided. For example, if the resolution is 600 dpi, the effective writing width in the main scanning direction is 290 mm, and each dot is divided into the smallest units, the area can be subdivided from n = 290 / 25.4 × 600 to n = 6850. (Region n = 1-6850). Counter A (n) is also prepared from A1 to A6850 and stored. In reality, a certain degree of effect can be expected even if a low division number of about 16 divisions is selected in consideration of the effect, processing speed, and cost.
As a result, the image area is divided in the main scanning direction, the print pixels are counted, the toner consumption amount is detected for each area, and the toner consumption amount exceeds a certain level in some of the areas. In this case, it can be determined that the amount of lubricant attached in that region has decreased, and the amount of lubricant applied can be increased, and unevenness in the amount of lubricant attached in the main scanning direction (longitudinal direction) can be reduced.
As an example, a case where it is most fragmented will be described.
FIG. 5 is a diagram schematically showing an image sample.
In the
For example, in this embodiment, when a halftone image is passed immediately after forming an image with a partly black belt in the vertical direction in the image forming operation of A4 landscape paper, a halftone image is shown in FIG. Thus, density unevenness occurs at the position of the vertical black belt on the A4 recording paper.
If the writing 2500 lines is one unit and this is NL = 1, it is necessary to enter the lubricant application mode when NL = 35 is exceeded in the case of solid continuous in consideration of the gap between the sheets.
In this embodiment, NL = 35, but the optimum value varies depending on the configuration of the developing device 40 that forms an image, the linear velocity, the type of toner and carrier, and the like.
In the
Thus, by controlling the drive time of the lubricant application brush according to the pixel count number for each area divided in the main scanning direction, the adjustment time can be shortened when the toner consumption is small in any area. On the contrary, when the toner consumption is large in a part of the region or in many regions, the driving time can be extended and uneven application of the lubricant or insufficient application can be prevented.
Further, by subdividing, the effect of forced toner consumption can be maximized by reducing the area divided in the main scanning direction to one pixel which is the minimum unit of the written image.
Further, the
B=2500×NL×C(ここで、NLは2500ライン単位の累積数、Cは限界面積率を表す。なお、この実施例ではCは0.35(35%)とした。
FIG. 6 is a flowchart in the case where the lubricant application mode is performed at the end of the job (when the continuous printing operation is completed).
First, the print start switch for starting the image forming operation is turned on to start.
Next, after the print start command, the write 2500 line conversion number NL is counted (step S1). Further, the pixel count number A (n) at this time is also accumulated (step S2).
This operation is repeated until the end of the print job (step S3).
Next, after the job is finished, it is determined whether the NL count is 35 or more (step S4). In the case of 35 counts or less, since it is not necessary to perform lubricant application at the job end, the process ends without performing the lubricant application mode.
However, if NL is 35 counts or more, it is determined whether the pixel count number A (n) is B or more (step S5). If A (n) is greater than or equal to B, the lubricant application mode is implemented for the job end falling operation (step S6). When A (n) is not greater than or equal to B, the lubricant application mode is not performed. In this case, NL and A (n) are further reset and fall down (step S7). Then, the process ends.
Here, B is a pixel count number threshold value and is expressed by the following equation.
B = 2500 × NL × C (where NL represents the cumulative number of 2500 lines, C represents the limit area ratio. In this example, C was set to 0.35 (35%).
Therefore, in this embodiment, the same image of a line longer than about 1/3 of the length of the recording paper in the paper passing direction (here, having a certain band-like width) is about 15 on the side of A4. When more than one sheet is passed, the lubricant application mode is performed at the end of the job, and the
FIG. 7 is a flowchart in the case of executing the lubricant application mode by interrupting during a job (interrupting during a continuous printing operation).
First, the print start switch for starting the image forming operation is turned on to start.
Next, after the print start command, the converted 2500 line conversion number NL is counted for the print job (step S12). Further, the pixel count number A (n) at this time is also accumulated (step S13).
Next, it is determined whether or not the job to be printed is finished (step S14).
In the case of the end of the print job, as shown in FIG. 7, the NL count is performed as in the case where the lubricant application mode is executed at the end of the job shown in FIG. 6 (when the continuous printing operation is finished). Is determined to be 35 counts or more (step S24). In the case of 35 counts or less, since it is not necessary to perform lubricant application at the job end, the process ends without performing the lubricant application mode.
However, if NL is 35 counts or more, it is determined whether the pixel count number A (n) is B or more (step S25). If A (n) is greater than or equal to B, the lubricant application mode is implemented for the job end falling operation (step S26). When A (n) is not greater than or equal to B, the lubricant application mode is not performed. In this case, NL and A (n) are further reset and fall down (step S27). Then, the process ends.
If the print job has not ended, it is determined whether the NL count is 70 or more as shown in FIG. 7 (step S14). If the count is less than 70 counts, it is not necessary to apply lubricant to the job end. Therefore, the process returns to the state after the print start command, the print job is continued, and the written 2500 line conversion number NL is counted.
However, if NL is 70 counts or more, it is determined whether the pixel count number A (n) is B or more (step S15). If A (n) is equal to or greater than B, the printing image forming job is interrupted and the lubricant application mode is performed (step S16). When A (n) is not greater than or equal to B, the lubricant application mode is not performed. In this case, NL and A (n) are further reset and fall down (step S17). Thereafter, the process returns to the state after the print start command, and the written 2500 line conversion number NL is counted for the print job.
Therefore, in this embodiment, about 30 sheets or more of the same image of a line longer than about 1/3 of the length of the paper in the paper passing direction (here, it has a certain band-like width) beside A4. When the paper is passed, the image forming operation is interrupted, the lubricant application mode is performed, the
