As one of devices utilizing the EL (electroluminescence) phenomenon, there is an active matrix organic EL device. In such an active matrix organic EL device, generally, an organic EL element in which a light emitting functional layer including a pixel electrode and an organic EL layer and a common electrode are laminated is regularly arranged on a substrate. A sealing layer for suppressing infiltration of moisture and the like is formed on the upper layer of the organic EL element, and a partition for electrically isolating the pixel electrodes from each other is formed between adjacent pixel electrodes.
The
Since the sealing layer 85 is strongly bent at the rising

In the drawings shown below, the dimensions and ratios of the components are appropriately different from the actual ones in order to make the components large enough to be recognized on the drawings.
(First embodiment)
FIG. 1 is a circuit configuration diagram showing the overall configuration of the organic EL device 1 according to the first embodiment. The organic EL device 1 includes a
In addition, the alphabet added to the organic EL pixel 30 corresponds to the color of the color filter 61 (see FIG. 2) corresponding to the organic EL pixel, and the light emitting area (no symbol) corresponding to each organic EL pixel 30. It represents the color of light emitted from. In the following description, when the corresponding colors are not distinguished, they are simply referred to as organic EL pixels 30.
The organic EL device 1 is an active matrix display device, and each organic EL pixel 30 includes a switching TFT (thin film transistor) 108 to which a scanning signal is supplied to a gate electrode via a

FIG. 2 is a schematic cross-sectional view of the organic EL device of the present embodiment. The organic EL device 1 of the present embodiment is characterized by the cross-sectional shape of the

On the upper surface of the

Since the organic EL device 1 of this embodiment is a top emission type organic EL device, the cathode 27 needs to have conductivity or transparency or transflective properties. On the other hand, the cathode 27 needs to be formed of a material having a work coefficient lower than that of the material for forming the
A sealing layer 85 is formed on the upper layer of the cathode 27 in order to protect the cathode 27 and the light emitting functional layer 26, which are sensitive to moisture and oxygen, from being shielded from the atmosphere. The sealing layer 85 includes a total of three layers of a silicon oxide layer, an epoxy resin layer, and a silicon oxide layer that are sequentially stacked, and has a total thickness of approximately 0.5 μm. The
The
(Effect of this embodiment)
The organic EL device 1 according to the present embodiment includes a
However, the lowermost silicon oxide layer is directly affected by the shape of the lower layer. Therefore, when the angle of the rising
(Second Embodiment)
Next, as a second embodiment, a method for manufacturing the
First, as a first step, a
The order in which each element is formed, that is, the order in which the
When the
After forming the second
Alternatively, a silicon nitride layer may be formed after the
Next, as shown in FIG. 3B, a photosensitive
The layer thickness of the
Next, as shown in FIG. 3C, as a fourth step, the
Next, as shown in FIG. 3D, as a fifth step, the pattern of the
As described above, the
The angle of the rising
However, the
However, the
The angle described above is determined by the melt baking conditions and the shape of the
(Third embodiment)
Next, a method for manufacturing the
First, as a first step, as shown in FIG. 4A, a
Next, as a fourth step, as shown in FIG. 4B, the
The light
Next, the
Next, as shown in FIG. 4D, as a fifth step, the pattern of the
As described above, the
Moreover, according to the manufacturing method of this embodiment, the above-described organic EL device with improved reliability can be obtained without increasing the manufacturing cost. The process of patterning the
(Electronics)
Next, an example in which the organic EL device according to any of the above-described embodiments is applied to an electronic device will be described. FIG. 6 is a perspective view of a mobile personal computer as an electronic apparatus. The
Here, the
