Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to an electrode for use in an alkaline water electrolysis apparatus, and more particularly to an electrode for a water electrolysis apparatus having a structure in which an ion-permeable diaphragm is sandwiched between electrodes.
Reflecting the recent energy situation, hydrogen is attracting attention from various fields as a new energy source to replace oil. Examples of such an industrial production method of hydrogen include coke and petroleum gasification methods and water electrolysis methods.
The former method has a problem that the operation is complicated and a very large-scale facility is required, so that the initial cost is considerably increased.
On the other hand, the latter method uses readily available water as a raw material, and a plurality of electrode pairs are provided in an electrolytic cell, and an alkaline electrolyte such as KOH is circulated between these electrodes and ion permeation is performed. The membrane is partitioned by a permeable membrane and generates hydrogen on the cathode side and oxygen on the anode side of the ion permeable membrane, but there is an ion permeable membrane and an electrolyzed solution between the electrodes. Therefore, there exists a problem that electric resistance is large and electrolysis efficiency is bad. However, since this water electrolysis method can generate hydrogen even in a relatively small facility and is practical, improvement in electrolysis efficiency is desired.
As shown in FIG. 6, such an alkaline water electrolysis apparatus includes an
As described in
However, as a result of studies by the present inventors, it has been discovered that when alkaline water electrolysis is performed using an electrode that has been subjected to such nickel-sulfur plating treatment, the electrolyte solution may exhibit a black color. Then, as a result of examining this cause, it was found that the nickel-sulfur coating as a plating component was peeled off. This is considered to be because the nickel sulfur plating film has a large plating stress, so that the film easily peels from the base material.
An object of the present invention is to solve the conventional problems described above, and to provide an electrode for use in a water electrolysis apparatus having good electrolysis efficiency and good nickel-sulfur coating adhesion.
In order to solve the above problems, the present invention provides an electrode of an alkaline water electrolysis apparatus having a structure in which an ion-permeable diaphragm is sandwiched between a pair of electrodes that are nickel-sulfur plated at least partially. An electrode for a water electrolysis apparatus is provided, wherein a portion subjected to nickel sulfur plating treatment is subjected to gold plating treatment (claim 1).
According to the above invention (Invention 1), by applying gold plating to the portion of the electrode base material to be subjected to nickel sulfur plating, the plating stress can be reduced and the adhesion of the nickel sulfur plating film can be increased.
In the said invention (invention 1), the said electrode is located in the ion-permeable diaphragm side, the working electrode which exhibits an electrolysis effect | action, an electrode plate, and the electric power feeding body which connects these working electrodes and an electrode plate Therefore, it is preferable that at least the working electrode is subjected to a gold plating process and a nickel sulfur plating process.
According to the above invention (invention 2), the gold plating is performed on the working electrode having the largest area and the plating film is easily peeled off, whereby the gold plating can be efficiently performed.
In the said invention (
According to the above invention (Invention 3), the electrode itself can be excellent in alkali resistance and mechanical strength.
In the said invention (invention 1-3), it is preferable that the thickness of the said gold plating is 0.005-0.1 micrometer (invention 4).
According to the above invention (invention 4), the thickness of the gold plating is sufficient to reduce the plating stress and increase the adhesion of nickel sulfur plating, and the gold plating process is efficiently and economically performed. be able to.
According to the electrode for a water electrolysis apparatus of the present invention, since the electrode subjected to nickel sulfur plating has good electrolysis efficiency, the plating stress is reduced by performing gold plating treatment on the portion of the electrode substrate where nickel sulfur plating is performed. This can reduce the adhesion of nickel sulfur plating. Thereby, it can be set as the electrode for using for a water electrolysis apparatus that electrolysis efficiency is favorable and the adhesiveness of a nickel-sulfur film is favorable.
Hereinafter, embodiments of the present invention will be described in detail with reference to the drawings.
FIG. 1 is an enlarged cross-sectional view showing one unit of an electrolysis unit of an alkaline water electrolysis apparatus using an electrode for a water electrolysis apparatus according to an embodiment of the present invention.
In FIG. 1, the electrolysis unit of the alkaline water electrolysis apparatus includes a water
In the electrolysis unit as described above, the working
Further, as shown in FIG. 2, the
These
The
The
In the present embodiment, the gold plating process is performed before the nickel sulfur plating process as described above. The thickness of the gold plating is preferably 0.005 to 0.1 μm. When the thickness of the gold plating is less than 0.005 μm, the effect of improving the adhesion of nickel sulfur plating is not sufficient, but when the thickness exceeds 0.1 μm, the effect of improving the plating adhesion beyond that is not obtained. It is not preferable because it is not. The gold plating as described above may be formed by any electroplating, such as cyan plating or non-cyan plating, but it is preferable to use non-cyan plating because it is safe and simple. . As such non-cyan plating, it is preferable to use a gold sulfite plating bath. The gold plating treatment may be performed after the water
As the membrane material for forming the ion permeable diaphragm 5 constituting the electrolysis unit together with the
For example, as a film material, a polyimide thin film having pores formed can be used. The polyimide thin film having such pores is physically and chemically durable in an alkaline solution and allows ions to pass through the pores. Then, by adjusting the pore diameter and the like of the pores, the passage and diffusion of gas can be prevented through the ion permeable diaphragm 5. In this specification, the term “polyimide” includes a modified polyimide copolymerized with other monomers and a polymer blend with other resin containing 50% by weight or more of polyimide.
This polyimide thin film preferably has a thickness (t) of 10 to 500 μm, particularly 20 to 300 μm. If the film thickness (t) of the polyimide thin film is less than 10 μm, the mechanical strength of the obtained ion-permeable diaphragm 5 is not sufficient, while if it exceeds 500 μm, the ion permeability is lowered, which is not preferable.
The polyimide thin film is preferably subjected to a hydrophilic treatment. By subjecting the polyimide thin film to a hydrophilic treatment, the membrane itself has very good hydrophilicity, and further has excellent ionic conductivity.
As such a hydrophilic treatment, any one of UV treatment, ozone treatment, corona discharge, plasma treatment or electron beam treatment may be used alone or in combination of two or more.
Further, as a membrane material, a film-forming mixture containing a hydrophilic inorganic material and an organic binding material selected from polysulfone, polypropylene, polyvinylidene fluoride, etc., in which a stretched organic fiber cloth is contained. It can also be used.
As the hydrophilic inorganic material, it is preferable to use fluoroapatite (FAP) or hydroxyapatite (HAP), and these hydrophilic inorganic materials preferably use granular materials. The particles of the hydrophilic inorganic material preferably have a particle size of 5 μm or less, particularly preferably fine particles having a particle size of 1 μm or less. Therefore, you may grind | pulverize this granular material finely with a mortar etc. previously.
Further, as the organic fiber cloth, a mesh made of polypropylene, a mesh made of a pre-halogenated ethylene copolymer such as ethylene and monochlorotrifluoroethylene, or the like can be used. As this organic fiber cloth, a woven fabric or a non-woven fabric can be used. The fiber diameter is preferably 1 mm or less, and particularly preferably the fiber diameter is 0.5 mm or less. No particular limitation is imposed dimensions of weave of the organic fiber fabric, it is preferred preferably at 4 mm 2 or less, in particular 1 mm 2 or less.
Further, the electrolysis unit of the electrode for the water electrolysis apparatus has a structure in which an ion-permeable diaphragm 5 is sandwiched and fixed between the working
And an electrolysis cell can be constituted by laminating a plurality of such electrolysis units (for example, 100 layers). At this time, a large load is applied to the working
Furthermore, in this embodiment, since the
In the electrolysis unit using the water
Then, double the amount of hydrogen (H 2 ) is generated at the interface between the ion permeable diaphragm 5 and the working electrode 7 (cathode). Since the
The embodiment described above is described for facilitating understanding of the present invention, and is not described for limiting the present invention. Therefore, each element disclosed in the above embodiment is intended to include all design changes and equivalents belonging to the technical scope of the present invention.
EXAMPLES Hereinafter, although this invention is demonstrated further in detail based on an Example and a comparative example, this invention is not limited to the following Example at all.
[Example 1]
SUS304 was processed into a shape as shown in FIG. The height of this leaf spring was 5.6 mm, and a folded portion with a height of 4.1 mm was formed so that the deflection allowance was 1.5 mm.
As shown in FIG. 3, the four plate springs were connected by welding to a 1 mm thick SUS electrode plate (diameter 80 mmφ). In this welding, the spot diameter was set to 2 mmφ or more.
Further, an SUS plate material (diameter 70 mmφ) having a thickness of 1 mm was expanded so that the aperture ratio was 30% to obtain a working electrode. This working electrode was arranged as an electrode by placing a plate spring between the electrode plate and the working electrode.
Next, the electrode thus obtained was immersed in a sulfite gold plating bath having an Au concentration of 4 g / L and energized at 0.2 A / dm 2 to form a gold plating having a thickness of about 0.01 μm.
Subsequently, this electrode was immersed in a bath of NiSO 4 .7H 2 O (200 g / L), NiCl 2 .6H 2 O (40 g / L), boric acid (35 g / L) and thiourea (100 g / L). Then, the counter electrode is a Ni porous plate (Celmet, manufactured by Sumitomo Electric Industries, Ltd.), and a current of 1.63 A (current density 1.3 mA / cm 2 ) is energized for 2 hours to form nickel sulfur plating, and black sulfur-modified Ni An electrode was obtained.
[Comparative Example 1]
In Example 1, an electrode was manufactured in the same manner except that no gold plating was formed.
[Electrolysis test]
A sulfur-modified Ni electrode (electrolytic unit) was constructed by sandwiching an ion-permeable diaphragm on the working electrode side of the pair of electrodes manufactured as described above. Using this electrolysis unit, an electrolysis test was conducted for 8 hours under the following conditions.
・電流7.7A(電流密度:0.2A/cm2)
<Electrolysis conditions>
-Electrolyte: 25% KOH solution-Circulation rate: 0.4 L / min, Linear velocity: 2.4 m / min-Temperature 80 ° C
-Current 7.7 A (current density: 0.2 A / cm 2 )
When the electrolyte after this electrolytic test was collected and analyzed, a suspended component (SS) due to fine particles was observed. This suspended component was confirmed to be due to nickel sulfur plating peeling. Furthermore, when the SS concentration of Example 1 and Comparative Example 1 was measured, it was 1 mg / L or less in the electrolytic apparatus of Example 1, whereas it was 25 mg / L in Comparative Example 1. From this, it was confirmed that peeling of nickel sulfur plating can be extremely suppressed by applying gold plating to the base of nickel sulfur plating as in Example 1.
