Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a rotation detection device that detects a rotation state of a rotating body based on an electric signal corresponding to a change in magnetic flux accompanying rotation of the rotating body.
Conventionally, for example, Patent Documents 1 and 2 disclose a rotation detection device that detects a rotation state of a rotating body using a magnetoelectric conversion element that outputs an electrical signal corresponding to a change in magnetic flux.
A rotation detection device disclosed in Patent Document 1 includes a sensor chip (semiconductor chip) having a detection unit in which a magnetoresistive element (hereinafter simply referred to as MRE) as a magnetoelectric conversion element is formed, and an output signal of the semiconductor chip A circuit chip having a processing unit for processing, a magnetic field generating member (bias magnet) for applying a bias magnetic field to the MRE, a terminal electrically connected to the semiconductor chip via the bonding wire and the circuit chip, and the terminal A housing (base member) that is integrally cast and has a protruding portion that fixes the semiconductor chip and the circuit chip. A change in the bias magnetic field (magnetic flux) accompanying the rotation of the rotating body that is the detection target is detected as a change in the resistance value of the MRE, and the rotating state of the rotating body is detected.
By the way, in the rotation detection apparatus shown in Patent Document 1, an MRE is employed as a magnetoelectric conversion element. Since the MRE is formed by evaporating a heavy metal (Ni—Co, Ni—Fe, etc.) on the substrate, there is a possibility that the substrate is contaminated by the heavy metal. When the substrate is contaminated with heavy metals, crystal defects are generated in the substrate, which may cause deterioration of the oxide film breakdown voltage and increase of leakage current, which may adversely affect the characteristics of the device formed on the substrate. Therefore, as shown in Patent Document 1, it is desirable to prepare a semiconductor chip and a circuit chip separately. However, when the semiconductor chip and the circuit chip are separated from each other, the manufacturing process for manufacturing the MRE and the processing circuit cannot be made common, which may increase the manufacturing process and increase the cost. In addition, since the semiconductor chip and the circuit chip must be mounted on the base member and the semiconductor chip and the circuit chip must be electrically connected by bonding wires, this may increase the mounting process and increase the cost. Is done.
In contrast, the rotation detection device disclosed in Patent Document 2 employs a Hall element as the magnetoelectric conversion element. Since the Hall element is formed by ion implantation into the substrate, unlike the rotation detection device disclosed in Patent Document 1, there is no need to worry about heavy metal contamination of the substrate. Therefore, for example, as disclosed in JP-A-10-132936, a logic circuit such as a processing circuit can be formed together with the Hall element on a substrate on which the Hall element is formed. Thus, by employing a Hall element as the magnetoelectric conversion element, the Hall element and the processing circuit can be formed on the same substrate. Therefore, the rotation detection device employing the Hall element as the magnetoelectric conversion element can simplify the manufacturing process and the mounting process compared to the rotation detection device employing the MRE as the magnetoelectric conversion element. Thereby, cost can be reduced.
By the way, the Hall element outputs an electrical signal corresponding to a change in magnetic flux by the Hall effect (Hall voltage generated by a magnetic flux that is linked to a current flowing through the substrate). Therefore, when a horizontal Hall element in which a current flows along the surface of the substrate is adopted as the Hall element, the substrate and the bias magnet are applied so that a bias magnetic field is applied substantially perpendicular to the Hall element formation surface of the substrate. The placement position must be determined. In order to satisfy the above conditions, the bias magnet must be disposed on the Hall element formation surface or the back surface thereof. In Patent Document 2, as shown in FIG. 1C of Patent Document 2, a bias magnet is arranged on the back surface of the substrate, and it is estimated that the Hall element shown in Patent Document 2 is a horizontal Hall element. The
In Patent Document 2, a bias magnet is arranged on the back surface of the Hall element forming surface as described above by using the side surface of the substrate as a mounting surface to the base member. And as FIG.1 (c) of patent document 2 shows, the electrical connection surface of the Hall element formation surface in a board | substrate and the board | substrate in a terminal is substantially perpendicular | vertical. In such a configuration, it is difficult to electrically connect the semiconductor chip and the terminal. Compared to the electrical connection configuration of the rotation detection device disclosed in Patent Document 1 (see FIG. 1 of Patent Document 1). It is complicated. Therefore, there is a concern that the mounting process becomes complicated and the cost increases.
In view of the above problems, an object of the present invention is to provide a rotation detection device with reduced cost.
In order to achieve the above-described object, the invention according to claim 1 is a semiconductor chip in which a Hall element that outputs an electrical signal corresponding to a change in magnetic flux accompanying rotation of a rotating body is formed on the surface side, and the rotating body And a bias magnet for applying a bias magnetic field to the Hall element, a terminal electrically connected to the semiconductor chip via a bonding wire, and a base member on which the terminal is integrally cast and at least the semiconductor chip is mounted. The Hall element is a vertical Hall element in which current flows in the thickness direction of the semiconductor chip, and the semiconductor chip is formed with a processing circuit that processes the output signal of the vertical Hall element on the surface side It is arranged on the base member with the back surface of the front surface as the mounting surface. Nguwaiya is exposed connecting surface to be connected to, characterized in that the said connecting surface and the surface is substantially parallel.
Thus, according to the present invention, a Hall element that outputs an electrical signal corresponding to a change in magnetic flux is employed as the magnetoelectric conversion element. Therefore, unlike the rotation detection device employing the MRE as the magnetoelectric conversion element, the magnetoelectric conversion element and the processing circuit can be formed on the same semiconductor chip as shown in the present invention. Thereby, a manufacturing process and a mounting process can be simplified compared with the structure by which the magnetoelectric conversion element and the processing circuit were formed in another semiconductor chip. Thereby, cost can be reduced.
Further, according to the present invention, a vertical Hall element in which a current flows in the thickness direction of the substrate is employed as the Hall element. Thus, unlike the lateral Hall element in which current flows along the surface of the semiconductor chip, the side surface of the substrate is not used as a mounting surface on the base member in order to make the current flowing direction and the magnetic flux application direction substantially vertical. As shown in the present invention, the back surface of the semiconductor chip can be used as a mounting surface on the base member. Therefore, the connection surface to which the bonding wire in the terminal is connected is exposed from the semiconductor chip mounting surface side in the base member, and the formation surface of the vertical Hall element in the semiconductor chip and the bonding wire in the terminal are connected. Can be made substantially parallel to the connecting surface. As described above, since the electrical connection configuration of the semiconductor chip is simplified as compared with the rotation detection device employing the horizontal Hall element as the magnetoelectric conversion element, the mounting process is simplified and the cost is reduced. As described above, the rotation detection device according to the present invention is a rotation detection device with reduced cost.
According to a second aspect of the present invention, a plurality of vertical Hall elements may be formed on a semiconductor chip. According to this, since a plurality of output signals can be obtained, by comparing the output signals, not only the number of rotations of the rotating body but also the rotation direction can be detected.
According to a third aspect of the present invention, the plurality of vertical Hall elements include at least one pair of vertical Hall elements formed to be line-symmetric with respect to the magnetic center line of the bias magnetic field. Also good. According to this, since there is no magnetic material in the vicinity of the bias magnet (open flux state), a bias magnetic field is formed symmetrically with respect to the magnetic center line, so that each pair of vertical Hall elements has a bias magnetic field. Can be applied evenly. Therefore, by comparing the electrical signals of the paired vertical Hall elements arranged symmetrically with respect to the magnetic center line, it is possible to detect the fluctuation of the magnetic flux accompanying the rotation of the rotating body.
According to a fourth aspect of the present invention, the paired vertical Hall elements are preferably formed in a substantially C shape with respect to the magnetic center line.
A magnetic flux generated from one magnetic pole (N pole) in the bias magnet forms a bias magnetic field so as to be focused on the other magnetic pole (S pole). The bias magnetic field is formed along the magnetic center line in the vicinity of the N pole, but starts to bend so as to spread in a direction substantially perpendicular to the magnetic center line so as to reach the S pole in the distance from the N pole. According to the present invention, the paired vertical Hall elements are formed in a substantially square shape with respect to the magnetic center line. That is, it is formed so as to narrow in a direction substantially perpendicular to the magnetic center line. In this way, the vertical Hall element is formed such that the bias magnetic field is applied substantially perpendicular to the current flowing through the vertical Hall element, so that a plurality of vertical holes are formed in a direction substantially perpendicular to the magnetic center line. Compared with the configuration in which the type Hall element is formed on the semiconductor substrate, the magnetic flux density linked to the current flowing through the vertical type Hall element can be improved, and the strength of the output signal can be improved.
According to a fifth aspect of the present invention, the bias magnet may be cylindrical, and the bias magnet may be housed inside a bottomed cylindrical case member that constitutes a housing together with the base member. Alternatively, the bias magnet may be arranged on the base member such that the semiconductor chip is arranged between the bias magnet and the rotating body. In any configuration, it is possible to form a bias magnetic field that is linked substantially perpendicularly to the current flowing in the thickness direction of the semiconductor chip and applied to the rotating body.

Embodiments of the present invention will be described below with reference to the drawings.
(First embodiment)
FIG. 1 is a plan view illustrating a schematic configuration of the rotation detection device according to the first embodiment. 2 is a cross-sectional view taken along line II-II in FIG. FIG. 3 is a cross-sectional view for explaining a schematic configuration of the vertical Hall element. In the following description, the direction along the thickness direction of the semiconductor substrate is the thickness direction, and is substantially perpendicular to the thickness direction, and the direction along the magnetic center line of the bias magnetic field (the center portion of the bias magnet is a magnetic flux). The direction through which the film penetrates is shown as the penetration direction, and the direction substantially perpendicular to the penetration direction and the thickness direction is shown as the transverse direction. In FIG. 1, the bias magnetic field generated by the bias magnet is indicated by a one-dot chain line, and the magnetic center line is indicated by a one-dot chain line along the penetration direction.
As shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, the
The
The
Further, as shown in FIG. 1, the
The terminal 30 is for electrically connecting the
The
The
The
Next, the principle of detecting the rotation state of the

Further, as described above, the
The preferred embodiments of the present invention have been described above. However, the present invention is not limited to the above-described embodiments, and various modifications can be made without departing from the spirit of the present invention.
In this embodiment, the example which provides the
