The present invention relates to a secondary battery having a current collecting terminal plate on an end face of an electrode group, and more particularly to improvement of an electrode core material constituting the electrode group.
In order to increase the output of the secondary battery, it has been studied to make the current collecting structure of the electrode group a tabless structure. A tabless structure secondary battery is formed by winding or laminating a first electrode and a second electrode with a separator interposed therebetween, and has an electrode group having a first end face and a second end face facing each other. A first current collecting terminal plate electrically connected to the first electrode and a second current collecting terminal plate electrically connected to the second electrode are disposed on the first end surface and the second end surface, respectively.
In the manufacturing process of the secondary battery, after the electrode group is accommodated in the battery case, a liquid electrolyte is injected into the battery case. Here, in the secondary battery having a tabless structure, the first end surface and the second end surface of the electrode group are covered with the first current collecting terminal plate and the second current collecting terminal plate, respectively. Therefore, the permeation of the electrolyte from the first end face and the second end face to the electrode group is limited. In addition, since the electrolyte cannot permeate from the side of the electrode group, the injection requires a long time.
Therefore, various studies have been made in order to improve the liquid injection property to the electrode group. Patent Document 1 discloses that a slit-like uncoated portion is provided in the positive electrode active material layer to improve the electrolyte injection property.
However, since the non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery of Patent Document 1 has an uncoated portion over the entire surface of the positive electrode, the battery capacity is reduced. Moreover, when the current collection terminal board is provided in the end surface of the electrode group, it does not change that permeation to the electrode group of electrolyte is prevented.

Accordingly, the present invention provides a secondary battery having a structure (tabless structure) in which the end face of the electrode group is covered with a current collector terminal plate, improving the liquid injection property of the electrolyte without reducing the battery capacity, and further improving the quality.

In the present invention, the first current collecting terminal plate may cover substantially the entire first end face. At this time, the second current collecting terminal plate may cover substantially the entire second end surface. In the present invention, the state where the current collecting terminal plate covers almost the entire end surface means that, for example, when the end surface of the electrode group is viewed from the normal direction, 90% or more of the end surface is the current collecting terminal plate. The entire surface of the end surface may be completely covered. The opening ratios of the first core material and the second core material are each preferably 1 to 50%.
The first core material and the second core material preferably each have 1 to 50 first openings and second openings per 1 cm 2 .
When each of the first core material and the second core material has a strip shape, the first opening is a slit shape inclined with respect to the longitudinal direction of the first core material, and the second opening is the length of the second core material. A slit shape inclined with respect to the scale direction is preferable. However, the first opening may be a slit shape parallel to the longitudinal direction of the first core material, and the second opening may be a slit shape parallel to the longitudinal direction of the second core material. .
When the first opening and the second opening are respectively inclined with respect to the longitudinal direction of the core member, it is preferable that the first opening and the second opening intersect each other in the electrode group.
According to the present invention, in the secondary battery having the structure in which the end face of the electrode group is covered with the current collector terminal plate, the electrolyte injection property can be improved without reducing the battery capacity, and the quality can be improved. An excellent secondary battery can be provided.
The secondary battery of the present invention includes an electrode group, a first current collecting terminal plate, a second current collecting terminal plate, and a nonaqueous electrolytic solution. The electrode group is formed by winding or laminating a first electrode and a second electrode with a separator interposed therebetween, and has a first end face and a second end face (hereinafter also referred to as end faces of the electrode group) facing each other. The first electrode includes a first core material and a first active material layer attached to the first core material, and is disposed on the first end surface and welded to the first current collector terminal plate. Having an exposed end.
The second electrode includes a second core material and a second active material layer attached to the second core material, and is disposed on the second end surface and welded to the second current collector terminal plate. Having an exposed end.
A first current collecting terminal plate electrically connected to the first electrode is arranged on the first end face, and a second current collecting terminal board electrically connected to the second electrode is arranged on the second end face. Has been. Therefore, when the electrolyte is allowed to permeate into the electrode group in the battery manufacturing process, the permeation of the electrolyte from the first end face or the second end face is hindered by the current collector terminal plate. Therefore, the first core member is provided with a plurality of penetrating first openings, and the second core member is also provided with a plurality of penetrating second openings. Thereby, the penetration of the electrolyte from the side surface of the electrode group is facilitated, and the liquid injection property is dramatically improved.
In the present invention, when simply referred to as a current collector terminal plate, it refers to either one or both of a first current collector terminal plate and a second current collector terminal plate.
By using the current collector terminal plate, a secondary battery having high output characteristics can be obtained. However, since the current collecting terminal plate prevents the electrolyte from penetrating into the electrode group, conventionally, it has been necessary to provide a through hole in the current collecting terminal plate. On the other hand, in the present invention, even when the first current collector terminal plate is electrically connected to the first end face of the electrode group and the second current collector terminal board is connected to the second end face, the first current collector terminal board is connected. There is no need to provide a through hole in the electrical terminal board. When the through holes are formed in the current collector terminal plate, various inconveniences occur. In the present invention, such inconveniences can be solved. For example, when the current collector terminal plate and the end face of the electrode group are welded, the separator and the like are not melted due to scattering of the spatter, and the battery quality can be maintained high. Further, since the area of the current collecting terminal plate can be increased, the current collecting performance can be maintained high. The current collector terminal plate may cover almost the entire end face of the electrode group, or may completely cover the entire end face of the electrode group.
The materials of the first core material and the second core material are not particularly limited. One of the first core material and the second core material is a positive electrode core material, and the other is a negative electrode core material. The core material is preferably excellent in current collecting properties and chemically stable under the use conditions of the secondary battery. For example, examples of the material for the positive electrode core material include aluminum, an aluminum alloy, and titanium. Especially, since it has the outstanding moldability, it is preferable to use aluminum or aluminum alloy. Examples of the material for the negative electrode core material include copper, copper alloys, nickel, and stainless steel. Especially, since it has the outstanding moldability, it is preferable to use copper or a copper alloy.
Although the form of a core material is not specifically limited, For example, it has forms, such as strip | belt-shaped foil and a sheet | seat.
The thickness of the positive electrode core material is preferably 10 to 30 μm. If the thickness of the positive electrode core material is less than 10 μm, the strength may be insufficient when an opening is formed. When the thickness of the positive electrode core material is larger than 30 μm, the volume occupied by the core material in the battery is increased, and the energy density may be insufficient.
The thickness of the negative electrode core material is preferably 8 to 30 μm. If the thickness of the negative electrode core material is less than 8 μm, the strength may be insufficient when an opening is formed. When the thickness of the negative electrode core material is larger than 30 μm, the volume occupied by the core material in the battery becomes large, and the energy density may be insufficient.
The opening ratios of the first core material and the second core material are preferably 1 to 50%, respectively. An aperture ratio means the ratio of the area which an opening part occupies per unit area. The aperture ratio is obtained, for example, by observing a 1 cm square region of the core material with an optical microscope or SEM and measuring the ratio of the area occupied by the opening portion in the region. With the aperture ratio in this invention, the average value of the aperture ratio of each area | region when three areas of 1 cm square areas of a core material are measured is calculated | required.
If the aperture ratio is less than 1%, the effect of improving the liquid injection property may be insufficient. On the other hand, if the aperture ratio is larger than 50%, it may be difficult to form or roll an electrode. When the wound electrode group is used, the opening ratio of the first core material and the second core material is more preferably 1 to 30%. In the case of using a stacked electrode group, the opening ratio of the first core material and the second core material is more preferably 1 to 40%. Here, the stacked electrode group is a stack of the first electrode and the second electrode via a separator, and the wound electrode group is the first electrode and the second electrode, What was laminated via a separator was wound in a spiral shape.
The first core material and the second core material preferably each have 1 to 50 first openings and second openings per 1 cm 2 . If the first opening and the second opening are less than 1 per 1 cm 2 , the effect of improving the liquid injection property may be insufficient. On the other hand, if the number of the first openings and the second openings is 50 or more per 1 cm 2 , the strength may be insufficient.
In the first core material, the interval between the first openings adjacent to each other is preferably 3 to 10 mm. In the second core material, the interval between the second openings adjacent to each other is preferably 3 to 10 mm. Here, the interval between the openings is a distance between the centers of gravity of the figures forming the openings.
The shape of the first opening and the second opening is not particularly limited. For example, a substantially circular shape, an indefinite shape, a slit shape, a substantially rectangular shape, a diamond shape, a polygonal shape, and the like can be given. The first opening and the second opening may have the same shape or different shapes. The first opening and the second opening may be formed continuously or discontinuously. Only a plurality of first openings having the same shape may be formed in the first core member, or first openings having a plurality of different shapes may be formed. Only a plurality of second openings having the same shape may be formed in the second core material, or second openings having a plurality of different shapes may be formed.
When the first opening or the second opening is substantially circular, the diameter is preferably 0.5 mm to 1 mm. Thereby, the pouring property of electrolyte is further improved. The substantially circular shape means a shape that can be generally recognized as a circular shape by those skilled in the art, and examples thereof include a perfect circle and an ellipse. In the case of an elliptical shape, from the viewpoint of further improving the electrode plate strength, the length direction of the major axis is preferably parallel to the longitudinal direction of the core material.
When the first opening or the second opening is substantially rectangular, the length of the diagonal line is preferably 0.5 mm to 1 mm. The ratio of the length of the long side of the rectangle to the length of the short side is not particularly limited, and may be a square or a rectangle. The long side and the short side of the rectangle may have different lengths or the same length. From the viewpoint of further improving the electrode plate strength, it is preferable to make the length direction of the long side parallel to the longitudinal direction of the core material.
Hereinafter, the slit-shaped first opening and second opening will be described.
FIG. 1A is a top view schematically showing a
When the shape of the 1st opening or the 2nd opening is slit shape, the length does not need to be the same with all the slits, but it is preferred that each is 1-10 mm. If the length of the slit is less than 1 mm, the area of the opening is reduced, so that the effect of improving the liquid injection property may be insufficient unless the number of slits per unit area is increased. If the slit length exceeds 10 mm, the strength of the core material may be insufficient.
The widths of the slits need not be the same for all the slits, but each is preferably 200 μm to 2 mm. If the width of the slit is less than 200 μm, the area of the opening becomes small, and the effect of improving the liquid injection property may be insufficient unless the number of slits per unit area is increased. If the length of the slit exceeds 2 mm, the strength of the core material may be insufficient.
The ratio of the length to the width of the slit (aspect ratio) is preferably 5-50.
In one aspect of the present invention, each of the first core material and the second core material has a strip shape, the first opening has a slit shape inclined with respect to the longitudinal direction of the first core material, and the second opening has The slit shape is inclined with respect to the longitudinal direction of the second core member. Thereby, the first opening and the second opening can be formed in a direction intersecting with each other in the electrode group. Thereby, the pouring property to the electrode group of electrolyte improves more. Here, if at least a part of the slit is inclined with respect to the longitudinal direction of the first core material and the second core material, an effect of further improving the liquid injection property can be obtained. However, from the viewpoint of improving the effect of improving the liquid injection property, most or all of the slits are preferably inclined.
It is preferable that the length direction of the slit-shaped first opening and the length direction of the first core member form an angle of 45 ° or less. It is preferable that the length direction of the slit-shaped second opening and the long direction of the second core member form an angle of 45 ° or less. If the angle formed by the opening and the longitudinal direction of the core material exceeds 45 °, the strength of the core material against the tension in the longitudinal direction may be reduced. For example, when the electrode group is manufactured by winding the electrode, the core material may be easily cut. The angle formed by the length direction of the first opening and the length direction of the second opening may be, for example, 20 ° or more.
In another aspect of the present invention, the angle formed by the opening and the longitudinal direction of the core material is 0 °. In this case, the first opening has a slit shape parallel to the longitudinal direction of the first core material, and the second opening has a slit shape parallel to the longitudinal direction of the second core material. A slit parallel to the longitudinal direction of the core material is preferable in that the core material is difficult to cut. Therefore, for example, when the core material is a material having relatively low strength, this aspect is more preferable. Here, it is sufficient that at least a part of the slit is parallel to the longitudinal direction of the first core material and the second core material, but most of the slit or All are preferably parallel.

(Vi) Production of Battery The electrode group welded with the current collector terminal plate was inserted into a bottomed cylindrical battery case having an open top. At that time, the electrode group was inserted so that the negative electrode current collecting terminal plate was on the bottom side of the battery case. The negative electrode current collector terminal plate was welded to the bottom of the battery case. Further, the positive electrode current collector terminal plate was connected to the sealing plate through an aluminum positive electrode lead. An insulating member for preventing a short circuit was disposed between the positive electrode current collector terminal plate and the sealing plate.
A non-aqueous electrolyte was prepared by dissolving lithium hexafluorophosphate (LiPF 6 ) at a concentration of 1 mol / L in a mixed solvent of ethylene carbonate and ethyl methyl carbonate in a volume ratio of 1: 3. After the electrode group and the battery case were heated and dried, 10 g of a nonaqueous electrolyte was injected into the battery case. The electrode group was left under a reduced pressure of 260 Pa until the nonaqueous electrolyte residue was no longer confirmed on the surface of the electrode group, and the electrode group was sufficiently impregnated with the nonaqueous electrolyte. It took 150 minutes to complete the injection.
Thereafter, the opening end of the battery case was caulked to the sealing plate via a gasket to seal the opening of the battery case.
