Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to an organic EL device, a manufacturing method thereof, and an electronic apparatus.
As one type of light-emitting element, there is an organic EL (Electro-Luminescent) element that is sandwiched between two electrodes, injects electrons and holes by an electric field, and is excited by recombination thereof to emit light. Conventionally, the organic EL element has been deteriorated due to the occurrence of black spot-like dark spots due to the influence of outside air, moisture, and the like, and there has been a problem that the lifetime is significantly reduced.
However, even when thin-film sealing is used, a color filter substrate is required for full-color display, which makes it difficult to reduce the thickness of the entire panel by the thickness of the color filter substrate. It was. For example, in Patent Document 2, a color filter substrate is bonded onto a substrate on which thin film sealing has been performed. In this case, the thickness of the entire panel is increased by the thickness of the adhesive and the thickness of the glass substrate on which the color filter is formed, and the merit of employing thin film sealing cannot be fully enjoyed.
The present invention has been made in view of such circumstances, and an organic EL device that can perform reliable sealing even when performing color display and can be thinned, and a method for manufacturing the same. And it aims at providing an electronic device.
In order to solve the above problems, an organic EL device according to the present invention includes a substrate on which a plurality of light emitting elements are formed, a protective film that covers the entire portion of the plurality of light emitting elements exposed on the substrate, and the protective film A color filter layer formed on the plurality of colored layers so as to face the plurality of light emitting elements, and an organic compound that covers the entire portion of the color filter layer and the protective film exposed on the substrate. And a second sealing layer made of an inorganic compound that covers the entire portion of the first sealing layer that is exposed on the substrate.
According to this configuration, since the color filter layer is formed using the protective film on the substrate on which the plurality of light emitting elements are formed as a base, the thickness of the entire panel can be further reduced. In addition, since the plurality of light emitting elements and the color filter layer are covered with the two-layer structure of the first sealing layer and the second sealing layer, it is possible to prevent a decrease in sealing performance due to the influence of outside air, moisture, or the like. . Further, since an overcoat that covers the color filter layer is not required as in the prior art, the manufacturing process can be simplified. In addition, since the first sealing layer is made of a flexible organic compound having a lower elastic modulus than the second sealing layer, it is easy to disperse stress, and it is a sealing layer that is difficult to crack or peel off. Can be sufficiently sealed. As a result, it is possible to provide an organic EL device that is thinner, lower power consumption, improved display quality, and improved sealing performance as a product.
In the present invention, the protective film is a flattening resin layer that flattens unevenness formed on the surfaces of the plurality of light emitting elements, and an inorganic compound that covers the entire portion of the flattening resin layer that is exposed on the substrate. And a gas barrier layer made of
According to this configuration, since the plurality of light emitting elements are covered with the two-layer structure of the planarizing resin layer and the gas barrier layer, it is possible to prevent a decrease in sealing performance due to the influence of outside air, moisture, and the like. In addition, since the planarizing resin layer planarizes the irregularities formed on the surfaces of the plurality of light emitting elements, the stress load on the protective film is small and difficult to break. As a result, an organic EL device with improved display quality and improved sealing performance can be provided as a product.
In the present invention, the light emitting element is sandwiched between a first electrode formed on the substrate, a second electrode disposed opposite to the first electrode, and the first electrode and the second electrode. An organic light emitting layer formed on the substrate, and a partition wall layer is provided on the substrate so as to stand up along a peripheral edge of the first electrode and separate the light emitting elements independently from each other; The electrode covers the entire surface of the element region formed by the partition layer and the plurality of light emitting elements and is in contact with the substrate, and the protective film covers the entire portion of the second electrode exposed on the substrate. According to this configuration, the organic light emitting layer is formed to cover and sealed with the second electrode, the protective film, the first sealing layer, and the second sealing layer. The organic light emitting layer is covered with a four-layer structure of the second electrode, the protective film, the first sealing layer, and the second sealing layer. Therefore, it is possible to prevent a decrease in sealing performance due to the influence of outside air, moisture, and the like. As a result, an organic EL device with improved display quality and improved sealing performance can be provided as a product.
In the present invention, it is desirable that the first sealing layer is formed thicker than the second sealing layer.
According to this configuration, since the first sealing layer is formed thicker than the second sealing layer, the function as the stress relaxation layer can be further enhanced. As a result, the organic EL element can be sufficiently sealed with a sealing layer that is more difficult to crack or peel.
In this manufacturing method, a step of forming a plurality of light emitting elements on a substrate, a step of forming a protective film covering the entire portion of the plurality of light emitting elements exposed on the substrate, and each light emission on the protective film A step of forming a black matrix layer in a position surrounding the periphery of the element; and a droplet containing a color filter layer forming material is ejected to a region surrounded by the black matrix layer, and the droplet is dried to form the color A step of forming a filter layer, a step of forming a first sealing layer made of an organic compound covering an entire portion of the color filter layer and the protective film exposed on the substrate, and the step of forming the first sealing layer And a step of forming a second sealing layer made of an inorganic compound that covers the entire portion exposed on the substrate.
According to this manufacturing method, since the droplet discharge method is used in the step of forming the color filter layer using the black matrix layer as a partition on the protective film, the color filter layer can be formed with higher accuracy. In addition, when a droplet discharge method is used in the step of forming a plurality of light emitting elements on the substrate, the same nozzle is used in the step of forming the color filter layer, so that the nozzle of the droplet discharge portion of the ink jet device is used. Therefore, the color filter layer can be formed more efficiently and accurately. As a result, an organic EL device with improved display quality can be manufactured as a product.
In this manufacturing method, the step of forming the protective film includes a step of forming a flattening resin layer for flattening unevenness formed on the surfaces of the plurality of light emitting elements, and a step of forming the flattening resin layer on the substrate. And a step of forming a gas barrier layer made of an inorganic compound that covers the entire portion exposed in step (b).
According to this manufacturing method, when the droplet is ejected to the region surrounded by the black matrix layer, the base is flattened, so that a colored layer having a uniform film thickness can be formed. Therefore, an organic EL device having excellent display quality can be manufactured.
In this manufacturing method, a step of forming a plurality of light emitting elements on a substrate, a step of forming a protective film covering the entire portion of the plurality of light emitting elements exposed on the substrate, and each light emission on the protective film Transferring a colored layer to a position facing the element, and forming a color filter layer on the protective film so that the plurality of colored layers are respectively opposed to the plurality of light emitting layers; and the color filter Forming a first sealing layer made of an organic compound that covers the entire portion of the protective layer and the protective film exposed on the substrate, and an inorganic compound that covers the entire portion of the first sealing layer exposed on the substrate And a step of forming a second sealing layer.
According to this manufacturing method, since the color filter layer is formed by transfer, it is not necessary to form a black matrix layer as a partition on the protective film unlike the droplet discharge method. That is, since the step of forming the black matrix layer can be omitted, the color filter layer can be formed more efficiently. As a result, an organic EL device that is thinner can be manufactured as a product.

Moreover, in the following drawings, in order to make each structure easy to understand, an actual structure and a scale, a number, and the like in each structure are different.

FIG. 1 is a schematic cross-sectional view of an

The
電子注入バッファ層は、例えば、LiF(フッ化リチウム)やCa(カルシウム)、MgAg(マグネシウム‐銀合金)から形成されている。
The

Next, a process for manufacturing the
First, as shown in FIG. 2A, a TFT (not shown) and various wirings (not shown) are formed on the
Next, as shown in FIG. 2B, a light reflective reflective layer such as AlCu (aluminum-copper alloy) and transparent ITO are formed on the inorganic insulating
Next, as shown in FIG. 2C, patterning is performed using a known resist technique, photolithography technique, etching technique or the like so as to surround the

この平坦化処理方法としては、例えばCMP(Chemical Mechanical Polishing:化学機械研磨)やエッチングなどがある。

Next, as shown in FIG. 3B, an oxygen plasma treatment is performed so as to cover the entire exposed portion of the
Next, as shown in FIG. 3C, Cr (chromium) is formed in a region corresponding to the
Next, using the

In the present embodiment, the

In addition, according to this configuration, the plurality of

Moreover, according to this structure, since the
According to the method for manufacturing the

(Method for manufacturing organic EL device)
Hereinafter, an example of a method for manufacturing the organic EL device 2 will be described. In this embodiment, the steps after FIG. 3 in the manufacturing method according to the first embodiment described above are different. Specifically, in this embodiment, as shown in FIG. 5, the
As shown in FIG. 5A, the
Next, as shown in FIG. 5B, a predetermined printing method is applied in a reduced-pressure atmosphere by a screen printing method, a spin coating method, or the like so as to cover the entire portions of the
