Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a three-dimensional structure composed of carbon nanotubes and a method for producing the same. More specifically, the present invention relates to a three-dimensional structure composed of carbon nanotubes useful as a three-dimensional structure and the like that are required to be lightweight and mechanical strength, and a method for directly manufacturing the three-dimensional structure by a fluidized gas phase method.
Carbon nanotubes are attracting attention as a new material from many fields, and are used as electronic materials such as field emitters, heat sinks, and transparent conductive electrodes due to their excellent conductivity and thermal conductivity. Yes. Furthermore, a material having a three-dimensional structure is produced by utilizing the light weight and excellent mechanical strength of the carbon nanotube, and its use is expected. As a manufacturing method of these three-dimensional structures, for example, Patent Document 1 discloses a method of manufacturing a three-dimensional structure by supporting a catalyst on a structure serving as a template and generating carbon nanotubes on the template. ing. However, in the method of Patent Document 1, it is extremely difficult to generate carbon nanotubes on a template without variation, and the carbon nanotubes are not effectively entangled with each other, and the shape of the three-dimensional structure is maintained with only the template. Therefore, there is a problem that it is difficult to maintain the three-dimensional structure with the template removed. Furthermore, since it is necessary to put the template inside the high-temperature reactor, there is a problem that the material of the template is limited to a material that is durable at high temperatures and does not affect the reaction. And their fields of use were extremely limited.
It is also known to produce a three-dimensional structure using previously obtained powder or cotton-like carbon nanotubes. In many cases, carbon nanotubes are dispersed in a solvent and then applied, processed, or molded to produce a two-dimensional material such as a carbon nanotube sheet or ribbon, which is also called a bucky paper. A three-dimensional structure having a curved surface, that is, a three-dimensional structure has been manufactured. However, the three-dimensional structure is a very small part of a structure called a developable surface that can be developed into a plane, even among ruled surfaces with linear elements, that is, origami such as paper cranes and paper airplanes. Only a limited number of representative three-dimensional structures could be made.
For example,
Thus, conventional three-dimensional structures made of carbon nanotubes are macroscopically limited to structures having linear elements. For example, three-dimensional structures with arbitrarily changed shapes and thicknesses are almost known. It wasn't. Therefore, for example, if a member or component that requires lightweight and mechanical strength is to be composed of carbon nanotubes, it is limited to a planar structure, or it is necessary to further process a carbon nanotube sheet prepared in advance. was there.
The present invention has been made in view of the actual situation as described above, and is a three-dimensional structure composed of carbon nanotubes useful as a three-dimensional structure and the like that are lightweight and require mechanical strength, and directly by a fluidized gas phase method. Since the three-dimensional structure made of carbon nanotubes is manufactured at the same time as the production of carbon nanotubes, it can be easily and less polluted by the environment.
The present invention has the features as described above, and the embodiments thereof will be described in detail below.
As a result of intensive studies to solve the above problems, the present inventors have completed the present invention. That is, the method for producing a three-dimensional structure comprising carbon nanotubes of the invention of this application is a method for producing carbon nanotubes by a fluidized gas phase method, in which a carbon raw material containing a catalyst is atomized in a reactor equipped with a heating furnace. Introduced along with the entrained gas, carbon nanotubes are generated in the flowing gas phase, and the entrained gas containing the generated carbon nanotubes passes through a gas-permeable structure that is provided downstream of the reactor and has a curved surface as at least a part of the structure. Thus, a three-dimensional structure composed of carbon nanotubes having the curved surface as at least part of the surface shape is obtained on the structure.
In the invention of this application, the method for producing carbon nanotubes by the fluidized gas phase method is not particularly limited, and various known methods can be employed depending on the purpose. The produced carbon nanotubes may be single-walled carbon nanotubes or multi-walled carbon nanotubes, and their purity, large diameter, etc. are not limited. Therefore, various conditions in the production of carbon nanotubes can be controlled according to the properties desired for the three-dimensional structure made of carbon nanotubes to be produced. For example, according to the method for producing ultrafine single-walled carbon nanotubes disclosed in JP-A-2006-213590, it is shown as a preferred example in that ultrafine single-walled carbon nanotubes having high crystallinity and a uniform diameter can be produced. It is.
Therefore, a three-dimensional structure composed of carbon nanotubes according to the invention of this application and a method for manufacturing the same will be described below in accordance with the method for manufacturing ultrafine single-walled carbon nanotubes disclosed in Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 2006-213590. First, FIG. 1 and FIG. 2 are schematic views of an example of an apparatus used for manufacturing a three-dimensional structure made of carbon nanotubes. This apparatus includes a heating furnace 1, a
For example, in this manufacturing apparatus, a raw material liquid composed of a catalyst containing a transition metal atom, a sulfur compound containing a sulfur atom, and a hydrocarbon that is the first carbon raw material 11 is prepared and stored in a syringe 10. It is supplied to the
In the production of carbon nanotubes, for example, as described above, (a) two types of carbon
Further, it is preferable to use a catalyst, and the catalyst to be used is not particularly limited by the kind of metal or the form thereof, but as is well known, iron, nickel, cobalt, scandium, titanium, vanadium, chromium, Transition metal compounds such as manganese, transition metal ultrafine particles represented by organic transition metal compounds such as ferrocene, nickelocene, cobaltcene, iron carbonyl, iron acetylacetonate, and iron oleate, and inorganic transition metal compounds such as iron chloride Is preferably used.
Furthermore, as described above, addition of a sulfur compound is also considered as a preferred embodiment. This sulfur compound has an action of interacting with a transition metal as a catalyst to promote the production of single-walled carbon nanotubes. Examples of such sulfur compounds include organic sulfur compounds and inorganic sulfur compounds. Examples of the organic sulfur compound include sulfur-containing heterocyclic compounds such as thianaphthene, benzothiophene, and thiophene, and examples of the inorganic sulfur compound include hydrogen sulfide.
In this way, the entrained
In the invention of this application, the air-
In the invention of this application, the curved surface means, as shown in FIG. 5, for example, a developable surface such as a column surface, a cone surface, and a tangential surface, a hyperbolic paraboloid, a spiral surface, a cone surface, and a column shape. One or more curved surfaces selected from the group consisting of twisted surfaces such as surfaces, rotating surfaces such as arc-rotating surfaces, free-form surfaces, or a combination of these two or more curved surfaces or deformed shapes (general double curved surfaces) It can be made into a shape other than a pure plane by a machine tool or a human hand.
Thus, the air-
Moreover, the air
By passing the entrained
(1) On the surface of the air-
(2) By continuing further, the carbon nanotubes increase in thickness on the
(3) Here, as the thickness of the carbon nanotube on the air-
(4) In order to manufacture a three-dimensional structure having a uniform thickness, the pressure loss before and after the air-
(5) When manufacturing a three-dimensional structure having a more uniform thickness, the entrained
(6) Regarding the installation of the air-
(7) As for the form of the three-dimensional structure manufactured as described above, the three-dimensional structure on the
(8) In addition, the production of carbon nanotubes by the fluidized gas phase method generally enables the production of single-walled carbon nanotubes and multi-walled carbon nanotubes by appropriately controlling conditions such as reaction time and feed rate of raw materials. The Moreover, when there are many impurities, the three-dimensional structure obtained will tend to be brittle. Therefore, according to the desired characteristics of the three-dimensional structure, various conditions for generating carbon nanotubes by the fluidized gas phase method can be appropriately controlled.
The three-dimensional structure made of carbon nanotubes obtained as described above is a structure in which carbon nanotubes are densely assembled, and has a curved surface as at least a part of the surface shape. This curved surface can be obtained by using the air-
Further, as a form of the three-dimensional structure, it is also provided as one formed on the breathable structure and integrated, or one obtained by removing the breathable structure as a single three-dimensional structure.
In addition, by appropriately controlling the manufacturing conditions of the carbon nanotubes, it is possible to constitute a three-dimensional structure in which the carbon nanotubes are 70% by weight or more and less than 100% by weight. Here, for example, in the production of carbon nanotubes, by using a sulfur compound together with a catalyst, or by using a plurality of carbon sources having different decomposition characteristics at an appropriate ratio, A proportion of 70% by weight or more and less than 100% by weight, more preferably 80% by weight or more and less than 100% by weight, can be constituted by carbon nanotubes.
Furthermore, the mechanical, electrical, and chemical characteristics of the carbon nanotubes that make up the three-dimensional structure can be controlled.
Further, according to the present invention, a three-dimensional structure can be manufactured very easily similarly for a structure that can be configured by a conventional technique such as a three-dimensional structure surrounded by a plane polygon such as a polygonal pyramid or a polygonal column.
The three-dimensional structure composed of the carbon nanotubes of the invention of this application as described above should be used in various fields by taking advantage of the excellent characteristics of carbon nanotubes such as light weight, high conductivity, high thermal conductivity, and mechanical strength. Can be expected.
Therefore, an example will be shown below and will be described in more detail. Of course, the present invention is not limited by the following examples.
Using the apparatus shown in FIG. 1, a three-dimensional structure composed of carbon nanotubes was manufactured. This apparatus includes a 4 kW electric furnace 1, a
The produced ultra-thin single-walled carbon nanotubes are captured by the air-
