Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a method for manufacturing a glass substrate for a magnetic disk used as a recording medium for a computer or the like, a glass substrate for a magnetic disk, and a magnetic disk.
In recent years, with the advancement of information technology, information recording technology, particularly magnetic recording technology, has made remarkable progress. As a substrate for magnetic recording media such as HDD (Hard Disk Drive), which is one of magnetic recording media, it can achieve smaller size, thinner plate and higher density recording compared to the conventionally used aluminum substrate. A glass substrate excellent in flatness and substrate strength is employed.
As the magnetic recording technology has been increased in density, the magnetic head has been changed from a thin film head to a magnetoresistive head (MR head) and a large magnetoresistive head (GMR head). The flying height from is narrowed to about 8 nm to 6 nm. A magnetic head equipped with such a magnetoresistive element may cause a head crash or a thermal asperity failure as an inherent failure.
Thermal asperity failure means that the magnetoresistive element is heated by adiabatic compression or contact of air when the magnetic head passes over a minute convex or concave shape on the magnetic disk surface while flying. This is a failure that causes a read error. Therefore, for a magnetic head mounted with a magnetoresistive element, the magnetic disk surface is required to have extremely high smoothness and flatness. In addition, if a magnetic layer is formed with dust or foreign matter attached, convex defects will be formed, so the glass substrate is required to prevent dust generation by eliminating irregularities and to perform advanced cleaning to remove foreign matter. Yes.
In the method for inspecting the smoothness of the glass substrate described in
However, the shape of the defect is important in a glass substrate used as a magnetic disk. That is, even a defect having the same area can no longer be used as a magnetic disk if it is elongated (scratch), but can be tolerated to some extent if it is planar.
Therefore, in the conventional glass substrate inspection method, only the size (area) of the defect is determined based on the intensity of reflected light. Therefore, if there is at least one defect, it is a long and narrow defect (a defect having continuity). ) And planar defects (discontinuous defects) cannot be distinguished from each other, and there is a possibility that the product is determined as a good product despite the defective product.
Accordingly, the present invention provides a glass substrate for a magnetic disk capable of improving the yield of a glass substrate by distinguishing between a defect having a continuity (scratch) generated in the glass substrate manufacturing process and a defect having discontinuity. An object of the present invention is to provide a manufacturing method, a glass substrate for a magnetic disk, and a magnetic disk.
In order to solve the above problems, a typical configuration of a method for manufacturing a glass substrate for a magnetic disk according to the present invention is a method for manufacturing a disk-shaped glass substrate for a magnetic disk having an inner hole in the center. A substrate map is created by mapping the substrate state measurement process that measures one or both of the intensity and / or displacement of the light reflected from the substrate by irradiating light onto the substrate, and one or both of the measured intensity and / or displacement of the light Substrate map creation process, and the created substrate map is divided into a plurality of matrix areas, and whether or not there is a defect is determined based on one or both of the light intensity and / or displacement measured for each area A defect determination step to be performed, and a continuous determination that determines that there is a single defect extending across a plurality of areas when there is a defect in an area adjacent to the area determined to have a defect. A defect determination step, a counting step for counting the number and size of defects, and a non-defective product determination step for determining whether the substrate is non-defective based on a result of the continuous defect determination step and a result of the counting step. It is characterized by that.
With such a configuration, it is determined whether or not there is a defect for each arbitrarily divided area, and the defect is made continuous by determining whether or not there is a defect in an area adjacent to the area determined to be defective. It can be determined whether or not it has. Therefore, it is possible to detect defects having continuity that have been overlooked in the past, and prevent erroneous determination. As a result, the reliability of the inspection can be improved.
Conventionally, defects of various sizes were measured by changing the area of the region to be divided into a matrix, but the defect size can be increased without changing the area of the region by including a continuous defect determination step. Can be measured.
The area of the plurality of divided regions may be 0.1 μm 2 . Although what is calculated | required for a glass substrate changes with uses, if it is a defect of 0.1 micrometer < 2 > or less, it can adapt in any use.
The light reflected from the substrate in the substrate state measurement step may be either one or both of scattered light and diffracted light.
By measuring either one or both of scattered light and diffracted light, a defect of about 0.1 μm 2 or more can be detected.
In order to solve the above problems, a glass substrate for a magnetic disk according to the present invention is manufactured by the above-described method for manufacturing a glass substrate for a magnetic disk.
In order to solve the above problems, a magnetic disk according to the present invention is characterized in that at least a magnetic layer is formed on the surface of a glass substrate obtained by the above-described method for manufacturing a glass substrate for a magnetic disk.
The components based on the technical idea of the above-described method for manufacturing a glass substrate for magnetic disk and the description thereof can also be applied to the glass substrate for magnetic disk and the magnetic disk.
According to the present invention, it is possible to improve the yield of glass substrates by distinguishing between defects having continuity generated in the manufacturing process of the glass substrate and defects having discontinuity.
Hereinafter, preferred embodiments of the present invention will be described in detail with reference to the accompanying drawings. The dimensions, materials, and other specific numerical values shown in the embodiment are merely examples for facilitating understanding of the invention, and do not limit the present invention unless otherwise specified. In the present specification and drawings, elements having substantially the same function and configuration are denoted by the same reference numerals, and redundant description is omitted, and elements not directly related to the present invention are not illustrated. To do.
The inventors of the present invention have intensively studied defects detected by the conventional method for inspecting the smoothness of a glass substrate for magnetic disks, and as a result, detected defects having continuity even as defects as discontinuous defects. It has been found that the yield can be improved by accurately determining defects having continuity and inspecting non-defective products / defective products, thereby completing the present invention.
That is, conventionally, before shipping a glass substrate, it was judged whether or not the glass substrate is a non-defective product by irradiating the main surface of the glass substrate with light. However, when examining in detail the defects of glass substrates that were determined to be non-defective in the light irradiation inspection, there are some defects that have continuity, and it is determined that they are non-defective even though they are defective. I understood.
Therefore, in the present embodiment, in the method for manufacturing a magnetic disk glass substrate, based on the result of the continuous defect determination step for determining whether or not a defect in the inspection irradiated with light is a continuous defect. And a non-defective product determination step for determining whether or not the glass substrate is a good product. This will be described below.
First, the glass substrate for magnetic disks according to this embodiment will be described. FIG. 1 is an explanatory diagram for explaining a defect on the main surface of a glass substrate for a magnetic disk.

FIG. 5 is an explanatory diagram for explaining the substrate map. As shown in FIG. 5A, the result detected by the
Next, when there is a defect in a pixel adjacent to the pixel determined to have a defect in the defect determination step S204, it is determined that the defect is a single continuous defect across a plurality of pixels (S206: continuous defect determination step). ).
FIG. 5B shows the results of analyzing discontinuous defects, and FIGS. 5C and 5D show the results of analyzing continuous defects. As shown in FIG. 5B, since the non-contiguous defect does not continuously straddle between adjacent pixels, it is determined that the adjacent pixel has no defect. Thereby, it can be easily determined that the defect is discontinuous.
On the other hand, as shown in FIGS. 5 (c) and 5 (d), if the defect is 0.1 μm 2 or more, the continuous defect continuously spans between adjacent pixels. By determining what has been converted into a value, it is possible to reliably determine whether or not the defect is one continuous defect extending over a plurality of pixels using various existing determination methods.
Furthermore, the shape and area of the defect determined to be a continuous defect in the continuous defect determination step S206 are analyzed using an existing analysis method (S208: shape analysis step). For example, in the case of the shape shown in FIG. 5 (c), a scratch of 1.4 [mu] m 2, the case of the shape shown in FIG. 5 (d), it is analyzed to be defective in the 0.9 .mu.m 2.
Based on the result of the shape analysis step S208, when it is determined that a continuous defect has a specific shape (S210: specific shape determination step), it is determined to be a defective product (S212: defective product determination step).
In the present embodiment, the specific shape is a scratch, but is not limited to this, and can be arbitrarily changed depending on the usage of the glass substrate.
Next, in the specific shape determination step S210, it is determined whether or not the area of the defect determined to be not the specific shape has exceeded 0.3 μm 2 (S214: threshold determination step). In the threshold determination step S214, it is determined that not continuous at defects and continuous defect determination step S206 does not exceed the 0.3 [mu] m 2 exceeds a defect i.e. 0.1 [mu] m 2 determined not to exceed the 0.3 [mu] m 2 The number of defects (hereinafter referred to as small defects) is counted (S216: first counting step). In the threshold determination step S214, it is determined whether or not a defect exceeding 0.3 μm 2 (hereinafter referred to as a large defect) is a defect exceeding 1 μm 2 (S218: second threshold determination step), 1 μm. If it is 2 or less, the number is counted (S220: second counting step), and if it is 1 μm 2 or more, it is determined as a defective product (S212: defective product determining step).
Based on the result of the first counting step S216 and the result of the second counting step S220, it is determined whether or not the substrate is a non-defective product (S222: non-defective product determining step), and the number of small defects and the number of large defects are predetermined values. Is satisfied (non-defective product determination step S224), and if the predetermined value is not satisfied, the product is defective (S212: defective product determination step). In the non-defective product determination step S222, the predetermined value may be, for example, 50 or less small defects and 10 or less large defects.
As described above, according to the method for manufacturing the magnetic

Next, both main surfaces of the plate glass were lapped to form a disk-shaped glass base material. This lapping process was performed using alumina free abrasive grains with a double-sided lapping apparatus using a planetary gear mechanism. Specifically, the lapping platen is pressed from above and below on both sides of the plate glass, a grinding liquid containing free abrasive grains is supplied onto the main surface of the plate glass, and these are moved relatively to perform lapping. went. By this lapping process, a glass base material having a flat main surface was obtained.

Next, the glass base material was cut using a diamond cutter, and a disk-shaped glass substrate was cut out from the glass base material. Next, using a cylindrical diamond drill, an inner hole was formed in the central portion of the glass substrate to obtain an annular glass substrate 100 (coring).
(4) End surface polishing step Next, end surface polishing of the outer periphery of the

Next, regarding the inner peripheral end surface, a glass substrate block in which a large number of sheets are laminated may be formed, and the chamfered inner peripheral end portion may be simultaneously polished with a brush roll. At this time, as the abrasive grains, a slurry (free abrasive grains) containing cerium oxide abrasive grains was used.

(6) Chemical strengthening process Next, the

(7) Inspection process The
FIG. 6 illustrates a case in which an operator visually inspects a non-defective product in the conventional AOI inspection and a non-defective product in the AOI inspection according to the embodiment, and judges the correctness rate by visual inspection of the image (inspection by visually observing the surface image). It is explanatory drawing for doing. As shown in FIG. 6, about 3% of those judged as non-defective products by the conventional AOI inspection should be judged as defective due to continuous flaws, and the correct rate was about 97%. On the other hand, almost all the products judged as good products in the AOI inspection according to the example were judged as good products in the visual inspection. Thus, by distinguishing between defects having continuity and defects that are discontinuous that occur in the manufacturing process of the glass substrate, it is possible to improve the yield of the glass substrate and reduce the manufacturing cost, and extremely high Since good products can be shipped with probability, customer satisfaction can be dramatically improved.
