Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to an image processing apparatus capable of automatically and appropriately switching an optimal color expression process according to a value included in a color signal related to an image signal acquired from the outside.
There is an RGB color space as one of the color spaces that define the color gamut of an image. Among them, the sRGB (standard RGB) color space is defined by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). Various devices that perform color reproduction, such as general display devices, printer devices, and digital cameras, often conform to sRGB signals in the sRGB color space. In a conventional general display device that performs display processing based on an image signal corresponding to the sRGB signal, if the sRGB signal of the image to be displayed contains a negative value or one or more values, these are usually Is clipped (a negative value is treated as 0 and a value greater than 1 is treated as 1). Then, an image including the clipped signal value is assigned (mapped) to the number of bits of the color expression range (generally 256 tones of 8 bits) according to the RGB value of the display device (for example, display panel) of the display device, Color expression processing according to the sRGB signal is performed.
As another color space different from the RGB color space, a YCbCr (sometimes referred to as YUV or YCC) color space may be used. The YCbCr signal related to this YCbCr color space defines the color gamut of the image by the color difference (blue color difference and red color difference) and luminance. In the conventional general display processing of an image according to the YCbCr signal, Among the color difference value ranges divided in 256 steps (8 bits), color difference values belonging to a range of 1 to 15 and a range of 241 to 254 are clipped.
Furthermore, in recent years, the xvYCC color space is defined as a color gamut including the sRGB color space described above. When displaying an image of an xvYCC signal corresponding to this xvYCC color space, if the range clipped in the display processing of the sRGB signal and YCbCr signal described above is mapped to the color expression range of the display device without clipping. If color expression processing according to the xvYCC signal is performed, it is possible to reproduce more vivid colors and deep colors with high color expression. Note that the xvYCC color space includes the range of the color space clipped by the display processing of the sRGB signal and the YCbCr signal, and such a color space range is generally referred to as an “extended color space”. There are many cases.
In addition, as a form of an apparatus that performs an image display process according to a color space, a form of a display apparatus having a display device such as a television apparatus and a display apparatus such as a recording apparatus or a set top box are not provided. Device configurations are possible. In the latter case, a device that performs image display processing is connected to an external display device and outputs an image signal subjected to display processing to the external display device, thereby displaying the image on the external display device. It will be.
Recently, in addition to color representation processing according to sRGB signals, display devices (television devices capable of handling xvYCC signals) that can cope with color representation processing according to xvYCC signals have appeared. In this television apparatus, execution of color expression processing according to the sRGB signal or color expression processing according to the xvYCC signal is switched by a user operation. For this reason, if an image transmitted by television broadcasting is in a situation where the image corresponding to the sRGB signal and the image corresponding to the xvYCC signal are switched depending on the broadcast time zone, the user involved in switching the color expression processing There arises a problem that the operation burden becomes large. Assuming a more specific situation, for example, when a commercial video corresponding to an sRGB signal is broadcasted while a program content (for example, a movie program) corresponding to an xvYCC signal is broadcast, Each time the broadcast content is switched from commercial video to program content, the user needs to perform an operation of switching the color display processing of the image, and is prevented from relaxing and enjoying television broadcasting. Note that the target television broadcasts include those sent by broadcast radio waves, those sent via a cable like cable television, and those sent via a network.
In addition, a television device as described above usually has an external input terminal, and can be connected to an external device capable of outputting an image such as a recording device, a digital video camera, or a digital camera via the external input terminal. It has become. If these external devices can output both an image corresponding to the sRGB signal or an image corresponding to the xvYCC signal, the same problem as in the case of television broadcasting described above occurs. That is, it is necessary for the user to check at any time whether the type of the color signal related to the image output from the external device is an sRGB signal or an xvYCC signal, and to perform an operation of switching to a color display process according to the confirmation result. However, there is a problem that the operation burden on the user is large. Furthermore, such a problem similarly occurs when performing color display processing on an image acquired by wireless communication such as infrared communication (for example, IrSS) as well as an image acquired by a television device via a wire.
HDMI(High Definition
As an external input terminal, HDMI (High Definition
When an image is acquired using a (Multimedia Interface) terminal or an image is acquired by wireless HDMI, an identification code indicating whether the image to be acquired is an sRGB signal or an xvYCC signal is included in an info frame according to the HDMI standard Is sometimes included. Therefore, in such a case, by referring to the identification code included in the info frame, the color signal corresponding to the acquired image can be determined on the device side that performs the image display processing.
Further, in
The present invention has been made in view of such a problem, and represents a color gamut included in an image signal acquired from the outside without using an identification code that may be included in an info frame according to the HDMI standard. An object of the present invention is to provide an image processing apparatus that can automatically switch to an appropriate color expression process based on a signal value.
In order to solve the above problems, an image processing apparatus according to the present invention provides an image signal corresponding to an xvYCC color signal value in an xvYCC color space including an sRGB color space and an extended color space expanded from the sRGB color space. In an image processing apparatus that performs a process of assigning to gradations according to a color display area related to image display, whether or not a value belonging to the extended color space is included in a signal value related to an image signal acquired from the outside A detecting means for detecting, and when the detecting means detects that a value belonging to the extended color space is included, an image signal including the value belonging to the extended color space is determined in accordance with a color display area related to image display. Means for performing a process of assigning to gradations.
In the present invention, when it is detected that a value belonging to the extended color space is included in the color signal value according to the image signal acquired from the outside, the value including the value belonging to the extended color space is acquired from the outside. Since the assigned image signal is assigned to the gradation corresponding to the color display area related to the image display, it matches the xvYCC color space without the user performing a switching operation as in the case of a television apparatus that can handle the conventional xvYCC signal. The image signal mapping process can be automatically performed. As a result, the user is relieved from the burden of the switching operation required in the television apparatus that can handle the conventional xvYCC signal, and can relax and enjoy image quality with excellent color reproducibility.
The image processing apparatus according to the present invention obtains an image signal corresponding to a first color signal value relating to a first color space including a first extended color space that defines a luminance and a color difference and at least a color difference range is extended. In an image processing apparatus that performs processing for assigning an image signal acquired by the image acquisition unit to a gradation corresponding to a color display area related to image display, the image signal acquired by the image acquisition unit First detection means for detecting whether or not the first color signal value includes a value belonging to the first extended color space, and a value to which the first detection means belongs to the first extended color space. A first allocating unit configured to perform a process of allocating an image signal including a value belonging to the first extended color space to a gradation corresponding to a color display area related to image display when the inclusion is detected. Features.
In the present invention, when it is detected that a value belonging to the first extended color space is included in the first color signal value corresponding to the image signal acquired from the outside, the value belonging to the first extended color space is also detected. In addition, since the image signal acquired from the outside is assigned to the gradation corresponding to the color display area related to the image display, the mapping process corresponding to the wide color signal is performed depending on whether or not the value belongs to the first extended color space. It will be done automatically. Therefore, if the acquired image signal includes a value belonging to the first extended color space, color expression processing that can display an image with excellent color reproducibility is automatically performed through mapping processing according to a wide color signal. The user is relieved from the burden of the switching operation required by the conventional display device and the like, and can relax and enjoy image quality with excellent color reproducibility.
As the first color signal value, for example, the value of the YCbCr signal can be applied. In this case, the range corresponding to the first extended color space is a numerical range that has been clipped in the image display processing related to the YCbCr signal (for example, a range of 1 to 15 in the entire 256-step range regarding color difference, or It is preferable to apply at least one of the range of 241 to 254) in that the region treated as the xvYCC signal can be used effectively.
In addition, the image signal acquired from the outside can be applied to either an analog signal or a digital signal, and the image signal acquisition path is acquired through analog television broadcasting or digital television broadcasting (in addition, television broadcasting) Is transmitted via broadcast radio waves, cable television networks, or network networks), when acquired through connection cables according to various connection standards (IEEE 1394, USB, etc.), or for infrared communication (IrSS) The case where it acquires by radio | wireless etc. is applicable. Furthermore, even when the HDMI connection standard or the wireless communication standard is used, the present invention is useful even when the identification code indicating the color gamut is not included in the info frame according to the HDMI standard.
In the image processing apparatus according to the present invention, when the first detection unit detects that a value belonging to the first extended color space is not included, the image signal acquired by the image acquisition unit is converted to a ratio of a plurality of colors. Conversion means for converting into an image signal in accordance with a second color signal value relating to a second color space including a second extended color space that is defined and extended to a range in which the color signal value is negative or exceeds a reference value Second detection means for detecting whether or not a value belonging to the second extended color space is included in the second color signal value related to the image signal converted by the conversion means, and the second detection When the means detects that a value belonging to the second extended color space is included, the first assigning means outputs an image signal including the value belonging to the second extended color space to a color display area related to image display. According to the present invention, a process of assigning to gradations according to the above is performed.
In the present invention, when the value belonging to the first extended color space is not included in the first color signal value related to the image signal acquired from the outside, the acquired image signal is related to the second color space related to the second color space. Obtained because it is converted into an image signal corresponding to the two-color signal value, and it is detected whether or not a value belonging to the second extended color space is included in the second color signal value related to the converted image signal. Whether the color gamut corresponding to the image signal can be effectively used for the color display processing of the image can be determined in two stages. If the values belonging to the second extended color space are included, the acquired image signal including the values belonging to these ranges is automatically assigned to the gradation corresponding to the color display area. The value of the color signal in the range is mapped, so that the color expression process matching the acquired image signal is automatically performed.
Note that an RGB color space (for example, sRGB color space) may be applied as the second color space (for example, the value of the sRGB signal as the second color signal value). In this case, as the range of the second extended color space, it is possible to treat the xvYCC signal by applying a numerical range (negative range or one or more ranges) that has been conventionally clipped in the image display processing related to the sRGB signal. This is preferable in that the area is effectively used.
In the image processing apparatus according to the present invention, when the second detection unit detects that the value belonging to the second extended color space is not included, the image signal converted by the conversion unit is displayed as a color display for image display. A second allocating unit that performs a process of allocating to the gradation corresponding to the area is provided.
In the present invention, when it is detected that the second color signal value related to the converted image signal does not include a value belonging to the range of each extended color space, the converted image signal is Since the gradation is assigned according to the display area, an image in which color reproducibility is ensured according to the acquired image signal is displayed. Therefore, if a value corresponding to a wide color space is not found even after two-step detection processing, normal color expression processing is automatically performed, so that the color gamut corresponding to the acquired image signal is used. The user does not have to perform a switching operation for designating display processing.
An image processing apparatus according to the present invention includes: a connection unit that connects to an external display device; and a unit that outputs an image signal assigned to a gradation corresponding to a color display area related to image display from the connection unit. It is characterized by providing.
In the present invention, since an image signal related to color expression processing is output from a connecting means for connecting to an external display device, the image forming apparatus does not have a display device such as a recording device or a set-top box. However, the present invention can be appropriately used. As an external display device, a display device provided with a display panel such as a liquid crystal panel or organic EL (Electro-Luminescence), a display device provided with a cathode ray tube (picture tube), and a plasma display panel (PDP) were provided. A display device, a rear projection type or a front projection type display device, or the like can be applied.
The image display apparatus according to the present invention includes a display unit and means for supplying the display unit with an image signal assigned to a gradation corresponding to a color display area related to image display.
In the present invention, since an image signal related to color expression processing is supplied to a display unit corresponding to a display device, the present invention is appropriately used for an apparatus having a display device such as a television apparatus. become able to. The display unit includes a liquid crystal panel, an organic EL panel, a field emission display (FED) panel including a surface-conduction electron-emitter display (SED), a plasma display panel, a display module applied to a projection system, and the like. Applicable.
In the image display device according to the present invention, the display unit is a display panel, and when the irradiation unit that irradiates the display panel and the first allocation unit perform a process of allocating an image signal to a gradation, And an irradiation amount adjusting unit for adjusting the irradiation amount of the irradiation unit to be higher than a reference amount.
In the present invention, when the first assigning unit performs the assigning process, the color tone relating to the wide color gamut corresponding to the first color space is reproduced, so that the dark color becomes a deeper tone, and accordingly. The degree to which the light emitted from the irradiating means is blocked by the deep color displayed on the screen increases, and the luminance on the screen decreases somewhat. However, in the present invention, the irradiation amount is increased in conjunction with the allocation process of the first allocation unit, so that it is possible to secure an appropriate luminance by compensating for the decrease in luminance, and the vividness of the color and the deep color tone. While maintaining the expression, it is possible to prevent a decrease in the brightness of the image.
In the present invention, if a value belonging to the extended color space is included in an image signal related to the xvYCC color space acquired from the outside, color expression processing corresponding to a wide color signal including the xvYCC color space is performed. Therefore, display processing corresponding to reproduction of a wide range of color signals included in the xvYCC color space can be automatically performed according to the values included in the acquired image signal.
In the present invention, if a value belonging to the first extended color space is included in an image signal acquired from the outside, color representation processing is performed according to a color signal in a wide area. In accordance with the value included in the image, display processing according to reproduction of a wide-range color signal can be automatically performed, and the user can enjoy image quality with excellent color reproducibility without performing any special operation.
Furthermore, in the present invention, if the value belonging to the first extended color space is not included in the image signal, the image signal is converted into one corresponding to the second color space, and the value belonging to the second extended color space is changed. Since it is detected whether or not the converted image signal is included, it can be determined in two steps whether the acquired image signal includes a value corresponding to the wide color signal, and further, a value corresponding to the range of the second extended color space Is included, color expression processing corresponding to a wide range of color signals is performed. In this case as well, an image display process having excellent color reproducibility can be automatically performed without any special operation by the user.
Furthermore, in the present invention, if the converted image signal does not include a value belonging to the range of the second extended color space, the converted image signal is used for color expression processing. Even if it is not specified, since the process is automatically switched to the optimum process, the user can enjoy the image content without worrying about the type of color signal corresponding to the acquired image signal.
In the present invention, a connection means for connecting to an external display device is provided, and an image signal related to color expression processing is output from the connection means. Therefore, the present invention is effective even in an apparatus configuration having no display device. Applicable to.
Further, in the present invention, a display unit corresponding to a display device is provided and an image signal related to color expression processing is supplied to the display unit, so that the apparatus has a display device such as a television device. The present invention can also be properly applied to this.
In the present invention, the irradiation amount of the irradiating unit is increased in conjunction with the allocation process performed by the first allocating unit. Therefore, the luminance reduction on the screen that occurs when the color expression process corresponding to a wide color gamut is performed. It is possible to achieve both excellent color expression and adequate luminance.

The television device 1 (liquid crystal television device) includes an
First, a processing system (
The selector 4 receives the image signal transmitted from the
Next, a processing system (digital input unit 6 and digital tuner 7) related to the acquisition of digital image signals of the
The
The
Next, the color gamut determination unit 9 that performs one of the central processes in the present invention will be described. The color gamut determination unit 9 corresponds to detection means, and the YCbCr signal related to the image signal respectively sent from the AD conversion unit 5, the digital input unit 6, and the
As shown in FIG. 2 (a), the color gamut determination unit 9 performs detection related to the color gamut in two stages as described above, and therefore the
FIG. 3 shows a color space to be detected in a detection process related to the color gamut of the color gamut determination unit 9 as a two-dimensional graph based on the YCbCr color space. The horizontal axis on which the scale is shown represents the color difference (CbCr), and the vertical axis on which the scale from 0 to 254 is shown represents the luminance (Y). In this graph, a
The
On the other hand, the xvYCC color space including the sRGB color space also includes the ranges of the
The
On the other hand, the
The
As shown in FIG. 2B, the
The first
Then, the first
Further, the information of the first-stage detection result sent from the color gamut determination unit 9 includes a value belonging to one of the
Returning to the description of the first
Then, the first
Finally, the second
The second
Returning to FIG. 1 and continuing the description, the
The
The

When the
Then, when the first xvYCC signal processing is performed in the step S3 or the second xvYCC signal processing is performed in the step S6, the
On the other hand, when the
Finally, the
Therefore, the
In addition, this invention is not limited to embodiment mentioned above, Various modifications can be considered. For example, the present invention can be applied to a television apparatus (display apparatus) including a display device other than a liquid crystal panel. For example, as a display device, a display panel such as an organic EL, a cathode ray tube (picture tube), or the like. A plasma display (PDP) or the like is also applicable. When a display device that does not require a backlight or a front light is applied, a unit that adjusts the screen brightness of the display device to be applied instead of the
Furthermore, in the above description, the processing has been described with respect to the image signal of the image frame constituting the moving image as the image signal. Of course, the same processing can be performed on the image signal of the still image. In particular, for a case where a captured image (still image) transmitted from a mobile phone or the like having an imaging function capable of external IrSS communication is acquired using a wireless interface for IrSS as the
