Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a power consuming device that shifts to a power saving state during standby, and a communication unit included in the power consuming device.
Conventionally, in a power consumption device such as a printer, in order to reduce running costs and prevent environmental destruction, if there is no print request from a host computer or the like for a certain period of time, the printing mechanism, drive mechanism, or entire printer is Each unit that consumes power, such as the main board to be controlled, is shifted to a power saving state (sleep mode) to reduce power consumption during standby.
In the
Conventionally, since power for starting is supplied to each unit in the power saving state, the power supply unit in the printer apparatus can supply power as usual even if another unit shifts to the power saving state. Was maintained. That is, in the conventional power saving state, the power supply unit operates in the same manner as when it is not in the power saving state, and consumes power in the same way as when it is not in the power saving state. Therefore, the power consumption of the power supply unit itself in the power saving state cannot be reduced, and the power consumption during standby cannot be significantly reduced.
In the printing apparatus disclosed in
Further, the method of reducing power consumption by intermittent oscillation of the switching element in the primary side power supply circuit and adjusting the ON period can reduce power consumption, but the power supply unit itself does not consume power by putting the power supply unit in the sleep state. Compared with the case where it was made, the power consumption reduction effect was small.
In view of the above, the problem of the present invention is to reduce the power consumption of the entire apparatus during standby by setting the power supply unit to the sleep state during standby and minimizing the power consumption, and at an appropriate timing. An object of the present invention is to provide a power consuming device capable of restarting a power supply unit and supplying power again, and a communication unit provided in the power consuming device.
In order to solve the above problems, the power consuming apparatus of the present invention is:
Power consumption department,
A main power source for supplying power to the power consumption unit;
A communication unit for data communication with the outside;
With an auxiliary power supply,
The main power supply can be switched between an operation state in which power can be supplied to the power consumption unit and a sleep state in which the power consumption of the main power supply itself is less than the operation state.
In the sleep state, the communication unit is maintained in a state in which communication from the outside can be received by the power of the auxiliary power source, and when receiving predetermined data from the outside, the main power source is changed from the sleep state to the operation state. A trigger signal for returning is output.
Thus, in the present invention, the main power supply itself can be switched to the sleep state. Further, in the sleep state, power is supplied to the communication unit by an auxiliary power source provided separately from the main power source, so that external data can be received even when the main power source is in the sleep state. When receiving data from the outside, the communication unit can output a trigger signal for returning the main power source to the operating state. Therefore, when power supply to the power consuming unit is not necessary, the main power supply can be put in the sleep state to reduce the power consumption in the main power supply, and the total power consumption of the power consuming device in the standby state can be reduced. In addition, when the power supply becomes necessary, the main power supply can be quickly returned to the operating state.
In the present invention, it is preferable that the auxiliary power supply is rechargeable and is charged by the electric power supplied from the main power supply when the main power supply is in the operating state. If it does in this way, electric power can be repeatedly supplied to an auxiliary power supply by recharging. Further, since the charged power is used in the sleep state, the apparent power consumption can be reduced.
In the present invention, the main power supply may stop its operation in the sleep state. In this way, the main power supply itself can be prevented from consuming power in the sleep state, so that the power consumption of the entire apparatus during standby can be greatly reduced.
In the present invention, the power consuming unit may be a printer unit, and the communication unit may output the trigger signal based on receiving a print request from the outside to the printer unit. In this way, power consumption during standby in the printer can be reduced. In addition, the communication unit can receive a print request from a host device or the like even during standby, and can output a trigger signal to the main power source to return the main power source to an operating state. It is possible to promptly supply power for start-up and printing operation to start the printing operation.
In the present invention, the main power supply may shift to the sleep state when a print standby state in the printer unit continues for a predetermined time or longer, such as when no data is received from the outside. In this way, useless power consumption can be reduced.
In the present invention, it is preferable that the apparatus has a device main body on which the power consuming unit is mounted, and the communication unit is a communication interface board that can be attached to and detached from the device main body. In this way, since it is not necessary to significantly change the configuration of the existing power consuming device, a power consuming device that consumes less power during standby can be provided easily and inexpensively.
Next, the present invention is a communication unit provided in the power consuming device,
It has an auxiliary power supply and can be switched between a state operating with the power of the auxiliary power source and a state operating with power supplied from an external power source,
When predetermined data is received from outside while operating with the power of the auxiliary power source, the main power source in the power consuming device is returned from a state in which power is not supplied into the power consuming device to a state in which power is supplied. The trigger signal is output.
As described above, since the communication unit of the present invention has the auxiliary power supply, data can be received without power supply from the external power supply. Further, when data is received from the outside, a trigger signal can be output to the main power source, so that the main power source can be returned to a state where power can be supplied.
In the present invention, the auxiliary power source may be chargeable. If it does in this way, electric power can be repeatedly supplied to an auxiliary power supply by recharging. Further, since the charged power is consumed in the sleep state, the apparent power consumption can be reduced.
In the present invention, the power consuming apparatus may include a printer unit, and the trigger signal may be output based on the reception of a print request to the printer unit from the outside. In this way, the communication unit can receive a print request from the host device or the like even during standby, and can output a trigger signal to the main power supply. Therefore, the printer unit can quickly supply power for starting and printing operations to perform printing. The operation can be started.
The communication unit of the present invention is preferably detachable from the apparatus main body in the power consuming apparatus. In this way, since it is not necessary to significantly change the configuration of the existing power consuming device, it is possible to provide a power consuming device that consumes less power during standby at low cost.
In the present invention, even when power is not supplied from the main power source to the communication unit, the communication unit (communication unit) can receive data from the outside by the power of the auxiliary power source. Further, when data from the outside is received, a trigger signal for returning the main power source to a state in which power can be supplied can be output from the communication unit (communication unit). Therefore, when power supply to the power consuming unit is not necessary, the main power supply can be put in the sleep state to reduce the power consumption in the main power supply, and the total power consumption of the power consuming device in the standby state can be reduced. In addition, when power supply is required, the main power supply can be quickly returned to the operating state.
Hereinafter, embodiments of the present invention will be described with reference to the drawings.
(POS printer configuration)
FIG. 1 is a block diagram of the POS printer of this embodiment. As shown in this figure, the POS printer 1 (power consumption device) is for communication for transmitting and receiving data between a printer unit 10 (power consumption unit) for performing a printing operation and the like and a
The
The
The
The I /
The I /
The A / C
The transition of the A / C
(POS printer control)
FIG. 2 is a state transition diagram of the
(1) Print standby state S1
The
In the print standby state S <b> 1, power to the
Therefore, when such a low load state continues for a predetermined time or longer, the
(2) Print state S2
In the print standby state S1, when there is an input of print data or the like from the
In the printing state S <b> 2, power supply to the
(3) Low power consumption state S3
In the low power consumption state S3, the
The
In the present embodiment, data input from the
(4) Power recovery state S4
When data such as print data is input to the I /
The I /
(Effect of this embodiment)
As described above, the
In the low power consumption state S3, the output of the A / C
