Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a chemical battery.
In recent years, the market for portable information devices such as mobile phones and e-mail terminals is rapidly expanding. In addition, expectations for hybrid vehicles and electric vehicles are increasing from the viewpoint of environmental problems and the energy crisis. In light of this background, there is a need for high-energy storage devices.
For example, the standard reduction potential of magnesium is as low as -2.375 V, is relatively light among metals, has higher safety than lithium, and is rich in resources. For this reason, it can be said that magnesium is an excellent material for a negative electrode of a battery.
On the other hand, a metal-air battery using a metal as a negative electrode active material and oxygen in the atmosphere as a positive electrode active material is known. Since the metal-air battery is supplied with oxygen from the outside, it becomes a large-capacity electricity storage device. An air battery in which lithium is combined is called a lithium air battery, and has recently attracted interest as a high energy storage device (for example,
However, with a lithium-air battery, although a large capacity is expected, it is difficult to obtain a high output. In addition, since the standard reduction potential of magnesium is higher than that of lithium, it is expected that the capacity is reduced when magnesium is used instead of lithium. On the other hand, since the zinc bromine battery is water-based and cannot normally take a potential higher than the electrolysis voltage of water, it has been difficult to increase the capacity.
The present invention has been made in view of the above-described problems, and a main object thereof is to provide a large capacity and high output chemical battery.
In order to achieve the above-mentioned object, the present inventors have produced a chemical battery in which a carbon positive electrode and a negative electrode made of metallic magnesium are arranged via an ion conductive medium containing magnesium perchlorate and iodine. In addition, the inventors have found that a high-power chemical battery can be realized, and have completed the present invention.
That is, the chemical battery of the present invention is a chemical battery in which a negative electrode using a material that releases magnesium ions as a negative electrode active material and a positive electrode using halogen as a positive electrode active material are arranged via an ion conductive medium containing magnesium ions. The ion conductive medium contains at least one halogen selected from the group consisting of iodine, bromine and chlorine.
According to the chemical battery of the present invention, instead of oxygen in the conventional metal-air battery, at least one halogen selected from the group consisting of iodine, bromine and chlorine, which is excellent in solubility in an ion conductive medium, is used. It is possible to discharge with a large current while maintaining a large capacity. The reason why such an effect is obtained is not clear, but it is presumed that a halogen such as iodine is more soluble than oxygen, so that the function as a positive electrode active material is improved, and a large capacity and high output are realized.
In the chemical battery of the present invention, the negative electrode uses a material that releases magnesium ions as a negative electrode active material. Here, examples of materials that release magnesium ions include magnesium metal and magnesium alloys. Examples of magnesium alloys include alloys of magnesium with aluminum, silicon, gallium, zinc, manganese, and the like.
In the chemical battery of the present invention, the positive electrode uses at least one halogen selected from the group consisting of iodine (I 2 ), bromine (Br 2 ), and chlorine (Cl 2 ) as the positive electrode active material. Such a positive electrode active material is dissolved in an ion conductive medium described later. The positive electrode may be formed by mixing a predetermined amount of a conductive material and a binder and then press-molding the current collector. At this time, the mixing ratio of the conductive material and the binder is not particularly limited. For example, the binder may be 3 to 10 parts by weight with respect to 100 parts by weight of the conductive material. As a mixing method, the carbon powder and the binder may be wet-mixed in a solvent such as N-methylpyrrolidone, or may be dry-mixed using a mortar or the like. Here, the conductive material is not particularly limited as long as it is a conductive material. For example, carbon blacks such as ketjen black, acetylene black, channel black, furnace black, lamp black, and thermal black are used. Or, natural graphite such as flake graphite, artificial graphite, graphite such as expanded graphite, conductive fibers such as carbon fiber or metal fiber, copper, silver, nickel, aluminum, etc. Metal powders or organic conductive materials such as polyphenylene derivatives may be used. These may be used alone or in combination. Although it does not specifically limit as a binder, A thermoplastic resin, a thermosetting resin, etc. are mentioned. For example, polyethylene, polypropylene, polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF), polyacrylonitrile, styrene butadiene rubber, tetrafluoroethylene-hexafluoroethylene copolymer, tetrafluoroethylene-hexafluoropropylene copolymer (FEP), tetrafluoroethylene-perfluoroalkyl vinyl ether copolymer (PFA), vinylidene fluoride-hexafluoropropylene copolymer, vinylidene fluoride-chlorotrifluoroethylene copolymer, ethylene-tetrafluoroethylene copolymer (ETFE resin), polychlorotrifluoroethylene (PCTFE), vinylidene fluoride-pentafluoropropylene copolymer, propylene-tetrafluoroethylene copolymer, Tylene-chlorotrifluoroethylene copolymer (ECTFE), vinylidene fluoride-hexafluoropropylene-tetrafluoroethylene copolymer, vinylidene fluoride-perfluoromethyl vinyl ether-tetrafluoroethylene copolymer, ethylene-acrylic acid copolymer Examples include coalescence. These materials may be used alone or in combination. As the current collector, is not particularly limited, for example, SUS or nickel, aluminum, copper, it may be used a metal plate, such as platinum, InSnO 2 and SnO 2, ZnO, In 2 O 3 , etc. Transparent conductive material or fluorine-doped tin oxide (SnO 2 : F), antimony-doped tin oxide (SnO 2 : Sb), tin-doped indium oxide (In 2 O 3 : Sn), ZnO, Al-doped zinc oxide (ZnO: Al) ), A single layer or a laminated layer of a material doped with an impurity such as Ga-doped zinc oxide (ZnO: Ga) or the like formed on glass or a polymer can be used. The film thickness is not particularly limited, but is preferably about 3 nm to 10 μm, for example. The surface of glass or polymer may be flat or may have irregularities on the surface.
The positive electrode preferably contains a halogen redox catalyst such as nickel. This is because it is considered that the halogen redox catalyst promotes the reduction reaction of the halogen that is the positive electrode active material, and the function as the positive electrode active material is improved.
In the chemical battery of the present invention, as the ion conductive medium, for example, an electrolytic solution containing a supporting salt or a gel electrolyte can be used. Examples of the supporting salt include magnesium perchlorate (Mg (ClO 4 ) 2 ), magnesium bis (trifluoromethylsulfonyl) imide (Mg [N (CF 3 SO 2 ) 2 ] 2 ), magnesium trifluoromethanesulfonate (Mg ( Known supporting salts such as CF 3 SO 3 ) 2 ) and magnesium nonafluorobutane sulfonate (Mg (C 4 F 9 SO 3 ) 2 ) can be used. As a solvent for the electrolytic solution, for example, an organic solvent used in a conventional secondary battery or capacitor can be used. Examples of such organic solvents include cyclic carbonates, chain carbonates, cyclic esters, cyclic ethers, chain ethers, and the like. Examples of the cyclic carbonate include ethylene carbonate (EC), propylene carbonate (PC), butylene carbonate, vinyl carbonate, and the like. Examples of the chain carbonate include dimethyl carbonate (DMC), diethyl carbonate (DEC), and methyl ethyl carbonate. Examples of the cyclic ester include gamma butyl lactone and gamma valerolactone. Examples of the cyclic ether include tetrahydrofuran and 2-methyltetrahydrofuran. Examples of the chain ether include dimethoxyethane, ethylene glycol, dimethyl ether and the like. These may be used alone or in combination. Further, ionic liquids such as trimethylpropylammonium bis (trifluoromethylsulfonyl) imide, 1-methyl-3-propylimidazolium bis (trifluorosulfonyl) imide, 1-ethyl-3-butylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate are used. You can also. The concentration of the supporting salt is preferably 0.1 to 2.0M, and more preferably 0.4 to 0.6M. Examples of the gel electrolyte include gel electrolytes in which an electrolyte containing a supporting salt is contained in a polymer such as polyvinylidene fluoride, polyethylene glycol, and polyacrylonitrile, or a saccharide such as an amino acid derivative or a sorbitol derivative. These may be used alone or in combination. These components are not limited to those listed here.
The ion conductive medium contains lithium ions and at least one halogen selected from the group consisting of iodine, bromine and chlorine. Here, bromine or iodine is preferable as the halogen dissolved in the ion conductive medium. This is because even when halogen gas is generated and flows out of the battery, bromine and iodine have a smaller environmental load than chlorine. The concentration of the halogen dissolved in the ion conductive medium is preferably 0.02 M or more and a saturation concentration or less, and more preferably 0.05 M or more and the saturation concentration or less. A halogen concentration of 0.02 M or less is not preferable because the function as the positive electrode active material may not be sufficiently exhibited.
The chemical battery of the present invention may include a separator between the negative electrode and the positive electrode. The separator is not particularly limited as long as it can withstand the range of use, and examples thereof include polymer nonwovens such as polypropylene nonwoven fabric and polyphenylene sulfide nonwoven fabric, and microporous films of olefinic resins such as polyethylene and polypropylene. These may be used alone or in combination.

The shape of the chemical battery of the present invention is not particularly limited, and examples thereof include a coin type, a button type, a sheet type, a laminated type, a cylindrical type, a flat type, and a square type. Moreover, you may apply to the large sized thing etc. which are used for an electric vehicle etc. An example of the chemical battery of the present invention is schematically shown in FIG. In the

The evaluation cell was produced as follows. First, as shown in FIG. 2, the
The evaluation cell thus assembled was connected to a charge / discharge device (model name HJ1001SM8A) manufactured by Hokuto Denko, and the open-circuit voltage was 0.5 mA (100 mA / g per positive electrode material) between the positive electrode and the negative electrode. It discharged until it became 0.3V. FIG. 3 is a graph showing changes in discharge capacity, where the vertical axis represents voltage (V) and the horizontal axis represents discharge capacity (mAh / g) per positive electrode material. As shown in FIG. 3, the magnesium halogen battery of Example 1 has a discharge capacity per positive electrode material of 5780 mAh / g when the discharge current is 0.5 mA, which is higher in output and larger than the magnesium air battery described later. It can be said that it is capacity. The measurement was performed at 25 ° C.
[Example 2]
An evaluation cell was assembled in the same manner as in Example 1. This evaluation cell was discharged under the same conditions except that the 0.5 mA discharge current of Example 1 was changed to 0.25 mA (50 mA / g per positive electrode material). As a result, the discharge capacity per positive electrode material was 6500 mAh / g.
[Example 3]
An evaluation cell was assembled in the same manner as in Example 1. This evaluation cell was discharged under the same conditions except that the 0.5 mA discharge current in Example 1 was changed to 1.0 mA (200 mA / g per positive electrode material). As a result, the discharge capacity per positive electrode material was 840 mAh / g.

[Example 4]
An evaluation cell was assembled in the same manner as in Example 1 except that 0.5 M magnesium perchlorate in Example 1 was replaced with 1.0 M magnesium bis (trifluoromethylsulfonyl) imide. This evaluation cell was discharged under the same conditions except that the 0.5 mA discharge current of Example 1 was changed to 0.1 mA (20 mA / g per positive electrode material). As a result, as shown in FIG. 4, the discharge capacity per positive electrode material was 2170 mAh / g. From this, it can be said that even if the magnesium perchlorate, which is an electrolytic salt, is replaced with magnesium bis (trifluoromethylsulfonyl), it has higher output and larger capacity than a magnesium air battery described later.

As a result, the discharge capacity per positive electrode material was 3400 mAh / g.

[Example 6]
An evaluation cell was assembled in the same manner as in Example 1 except that the 0.5 M magnesium perchlorate concentration in Example 1 was changed to 1.0 M and 0.1 M iodine was changed to 0.05 M bromine. This evaluation cell was discharged under the same conditions except that the 0.5 mA discharge current of Example 1 was changed to 0.25 mA (50 mA / g per positive electrode material). FIG. 5 is a graph showing changes in discharge capacity, where the vertical axis represents voltage (V) and the horizontal axis represents discharge capacity per mA positive material (mAh / g). As a result, as shown in FIG. 5, the discharge capacity per positive electrode material was 2450 mAh / g. From this, it can be said that even if the positive electrode active material iodine is replaced with bromine, it has a higher output and a larger capacity than a magnesium-air battery described later.
[Comparative Example 1]
An evaluation cell was assembled in the same manner as in Example 1 except that 0.1 M iodine was not added to the electrolytic solution of Example 1. This evaluation cell was discharged under the same conditions except that the 0.5 mA discharge current of Example 1 was changed to 0.1 mA (20 mA / g per positive electrode material). FIG. 6 is a graph showing changes in discharge capacity, where the vertical axis represents voltage (V) and the horizontal axis represents discharge capacity per mA positive material (mAh / g). As a result, as shown in FIG. 6, the discharge capacity per positive electrode material was 32 mAh / g. From Example 1 and Comparative Example 1, it can be seen that iodine added to the electrolyte helps to obtain high output and large capacity.
[Comparative Example 2]
An evaluation cell was assembled in the same manner as in Comparative Example 1, except that the space in the evaluation cell of Comparative Example 1 was filled with oxygen. This evaluation cell was discharged under the same conditions as in Comparative Example 1. As a result, the discharge current per positive electrode material was 34 mAh / g.
An evaluation cell was assembled in the same manner as in Comparative Example 2. For this evaluation cell, discharge was performed under the same conditions as in Comparative Example 2 except that the discharge current of 0.1 mA in Comparative Example 2 was changed to the values shown in Table 1 below. The evaluation results at this time are shown in Table 1 below. In Table 1, the results of Comparative Example 2 and Examples 1 to 6 are also shown. As is clear from Table 1, in the magnesium air batteries of Comparative Examples 2 to 6, when the discharge current is as small as 0.02 mA, a large discharge capacity exceeding 2000 mAh / g can be obtained, but when the discharge current becomes 0.05 mA or more. The discharge capacity decreases rapidly. On the other hand, in the magnesium halogen batteries of Examples 1 to 6, a large discharge capacity can be obtained even if the discharge capacity is 0.05 mA or more (that is, high output).
