Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to an imaging apparatus using electromagnetic waves such as far infrared rays, terahertz light, and millimeter waves.
In recent years, imaging apparatuses using electromagnetic waves (light) in a wavelength region that has not been conventionally used, such as far-infrared rays, terahertz light, and millimeter waves, have attracted attention and have been developed in a wide variety of ways. For detection of electromagnetic waves in these wavelength regions, various detection elements corresponding to the wavelength regions are used.
For example, elements that detect far-infrared light and obtain two-dimensional image information include a microbolometer (see, for example, Non-Patent Document 1) and a thermal light valve manufactured by Redshift systems (see, for example, Patent Document 1). .
Hereinafter, a conventional electromagnetic wave imaging apparatus will be described with reference to FIGS. 17, 18 (A), and 18 (B).

The two-dimensional Fabry-Perot
The resonance peak wavelength of the dielectric is determined by at least one of the thickness and refractive index of the dielectric, and in this conventional example, the wavelength is equal to or near the wavelength of the near infrared light emitted from the near
Next, the operation of the conventional electromagnetic

Hereinafter, a more specific description will be given with reference to FIGS. 18A and 18B.
FIG. 18A shows an example of the

At this time, the near-
Now, among the wavelength regions that have not been conventionally used, such as far-infrared rays, terahertz light, and millimeter waves, the demand for imaging using electromagnetic waves in the terahertz region (0.1 THz to 10 THz) is particularly important for security inspection applications and medical inspection applications. And so on.
In order to meet such a demand, for example, when the above-described conventional electromagnetic
In order to overcome this problem, for example, it is conceivable to increase the sensitivity in the terahertz region by adjusting the wavelength dependence of the sensitivity of the electromagnetic
However, handling with such cooling is cumbersome and difficult. In addition, in order to obtain a clear image from terahertz light, it is necessary to take measures to remove the influence of electromagnetic waves having wavelengths other than terahertz light.
The present invention has been made in view of such problems, and an object thereof is to provide an electromagnetic wave imaging apparatus that is easy to handle and can obtain clear image information from terahertz light coming from a subject.
In order to solve the above problems, an electromagnetic wave imaging apparatus according to the present invention is an electromagnetic wave imaging apparatus that outputs an image signal corresponding to the intensity distribution of an electromagnetic wave coming from a subject, and emits probe light having a wavelength different from that of the electromagnetic wave. An element, a substrate that absorbs the electromagnetic wave, reflects the probe light, and has a plurality of micromirrors having a temperature dependence on a resonance spectrum, and a corresponding one of the plurality of micromirrors. A plurality of microlenses that respectively collect electromagnetic waves, and a light receiving unit including a plurality of light receiving elements that output, as the image signals, electrical signals corresponding to the intensity of the probe light reflected by the different micromirrors.
With this configuration, the electromagnetic wave is collected by the microlens and reaches the micromirror with increased power density, so that the temperature of the micromirror can be increased efficiently even if the intensity of the electromagnetic wave is very small. . As a result, image signals can be efficiently imaged even from electromagnetic waves with a longer wavelength and lower energy compared to far-infrared rays, such as terahertz light, without requiring complicated handling such as cooling the microbolometer to the liquid helium temperature. An electromagnetic wave imaging apparatus capable of obtaining the above is realized.
In the electromagnetic wave imaging apparatus, the number of the plurality of microlenses is less than half of the number of the plurality of micromirrors, and the electromagnetic wave is collected by the microlens, and the electromagnetic wave is the micromirror. Micromirrors that are not condensed by the lens may be alternately arranged.
Preferably, the light receiving element includes two photodiodes, and may output a differential signal between signals obtained from the two photodiodes, and the light receiving element includes the two photodiodes in series. The differential signal may be output from a connection point of the two photodiodes.
With this configuration, it is possible to easily obtain an image signal with a high S / N ratio by using the probe light reflected by the micromirror that does not collect the electromagnetic wave as background noise and removing the background noise from the image signal. It becomes.
In the electromagnetic wave imaging apparatus, the plurality of microlenses may be disposed on a surface of the substrate where the plurality of micromirrors are not formed.
With this configuration, since the window for receiving the electromagnetic wave and the window for receiving the probe light can be made of materials that are optimal for each, it is easy to design an electromagnetic wave imaging apparatus having optimal characteristics.
Further, in the electromagnetic wave imaging apparatus, a filter is further disposed opposite to the substrate, the micromirror is formed on a surface of the substrate facing the filter, and further apart from the plurality of microlenses, A plurality of microlenses for respectively condensing the probe light may be formed on the filter in a corresponding one of the plurality of micromirrors.
With this configuration, the substrate that forms the micromirror and the filter on which the microlens that collects the probe light is formed can be made of materials that are optimal for each, so that an electromagnetic wave imaging device having optimal characteristics can be designed. It becomes easy.
In the electromagnetic wave imaging apparatus, it is desirable that the plurality of microlenses that collect the electromagnetic wave have a light condensing function with respect to electromagnetic waves having a wavelength in the terahertz region, but do not have a condensing function with respect to heat rays. The plurality of microlenses may be diffraction grating type condensing elements. In that case, it is desirable that the pitch of the diffraction grating of the diffraction grating type condensing element is 500 μm or more.
With this configuration, the heat rays that are the main components of background noise are not collected on the micromirror, but only the terahertz light coming from the subject is collected, so that it is easy to obtain video information with a high S / N ratio. Specifically, since the wavelength of terahertz light is about 50 times larger than the wavelength of heat rays (around 10 μm), the diffraction grating type condensing element created by adjusting the pitch of the diffraction grating to the wavelength of terahertz light is used as background noise. On the other hand, it has no light collecting action.
The present invention includes not only such an electromagnetic wave imaging apparatus but also a method for manufacturing a micromirror used in the electromagnetic wave imaging apparatus.
As described above, according to the electromagnetic wave imaging apparatus of the present invention, the electromagnetic wave arriving from a subject is condensed on the micromirror by the microlens, so that the temperature of the micromirror is low even if the intensity of the electromagnetic wave is very small. Can be raised efficiently.
Also, since a diffraction grating lens that collects only the terahertz wave used for imaging coming from the subject or background and does not collect light of other wavelengths is used, it can obtain image information by the terahertz wave with a high S / N ratio. Is possible.
First, the names corresponding to the wavelengths of electromagnetic waves used in the present invention are defined as shown in Table 1.
As shown in Table 1, infrared rays are classified into near infrared rays, middle infrared rays, and far infrared rays according to wavelengths.
A heat ray is a kind of far-infrared rays, for example, an electromagnetic wave having a peak at a wavelength of 10 μm and having a wavelength region of approximately 4 μm to 30 μm as shown in FIG.
The terahertz light (the terahertz wave or the electromagnetic wave in the terahertz region is also synonymous) is an electromagnetic wave having a frequency of about 0.1 THz to 10 THz, and corresponds to a region of about 30 μm to 3000 μm in terms of wavelength. That is, terahertz light refers to an electromagnetic wave adjacent to the long wavelength side of the heat ray as a wavelength region.

(Description of operation)
Subsequently, the operation of the electromagnetic
The

The
This heat is transmitted through the
Specifically, the change in the reflected light intensity of the
When the
In FIG. 4B, the difference in reflected light intensity can be detected by using, for example, near infrared light having a wavelength of 799.5 nm.
The difference in the reflected light intensity is specifically detected as follows.

The reflected light 30 a and the reflected light 30 b are received by the two
With the configuration as described above, it is possible to convert the intensity corresponding to the location of the

This makes it possible to remove electromagnetic waves other than the wavelength of the terahertz light coming from the subject and the background other than the subject, that is, noise.
Specifically, the

If the refractive index of the substrate is ignored, the relationship between the focal length f of the
Therefore, the diffraction grating pitch d may be set as shown in
When a lens with a focal length f = 4000 μm is fabricated for terahertz light having a wavelength of 300 μm based on
At this time, the focal length of the
FIG. 9 is a graph showing the relationship between the pitch of the diffraction grating and the diffraction angle of incident light for electromagnetic waves having a wavelength of 10 μm to 600 μm.
In the graph of FIG. 9, the diffraction angle of terahertz light having a wavelength of 300 μm is 5 degrees or more over the entire region where the diffraction grating pitch is 500 μm to 3000 μm, and the diffraction angle of the 10 μm electromagnetic wave, which is the main component of heat rays, is 5 degrees. From the following, it can be seen that the diffraction grating with a pitch of 500 μm or more can be used to collect the terahertz light and hardly collect the heat rays.
Therefore, a well-condensed terahertz wave is preferably formed by using a diffraction grating designed to concentrate terahertz light well, preferably having a pitch of 500 μm or more and a micromirror whose size is sufficiently smaller than s. The micromirror can receive waves and a small amount of heat rays that are hardly collected. As a result, it is possible to obtain an image only from the terahertz light coming from the subject with almost no influence of the heat rays.
