Description

The present invention relates to an airbag folding method in which gas is introduced and inflated and deployed, an airbag, and an airbag apparatus including the airbag.

Conventionally, for example, an airbag device provided in a steering wheel of an automobile has been used. The airbag device includes a bag-shaped airbag, an inflator that supplies gas to the airbag, a case body that stores the folded airbag, a cover body that covers the airbag that is folded and stored, and the like. ing. Then, the airbag has two flat base fabrics, for example, and is stitched with the outer peripheral portion to form a flat bag-shaped outer shell portion. In addition, a gas introduction part for introducing gas is formed in one of the base fabrics, and a portion around the gas introduction part is sandwiched between the flange part of the inflator and the retainer and attached to the case body.

Here, a cylindrical guide wall is formed in the retainer for high-temperature and high-pressure gas supplied from the inflator to the inside of the airbag, and the guide wall is projected to the front side so as to guide the gas. The configuration is known (for example, see Patent Document 1). However, this configuration is not suitable for a configuration in which the airbag is widely inflated and deployed on the outer peripheral side because a highly projecting guide wall is provided, and the mass of the retainer increases and it is difficult to fold the airbag small. Therefore, there are problems such as an increase in mass of the airbag device, an increase in size, and an increase in manufacturing cost.

In this regard, a configuration is conceivable in which a reinforcing cloth for improving the strength is overlapped and stitched around the gas introduction part of the airbag, and a flameproof cloth covering the seam of the reinforcing cloth is arranged. In this case, since the seam is a weak part, a configuration in which a free end without a seam is provided on the outer peripheral part of the flameproof cloth is conceivable. On the other hand, various folding methods have been proposed for airbags in order to reduce manufacturing costs and improve deployment characteristics. And, since the flameproof cloth arranged for the purpose of covering and protecting the seam is not provided with a seam on the outer periphery, for example, in the folding method in which air is blown to adjust the folded shape, the flameproof cloth is used in the folding process. It is difficult to determine the position, and there is a problem that the work of folding it into a desired shape becomes complicated.
Japanese Patent Laying-Open No. 2004-1635 (FIG. 3-4)

In the configuration in which the base fabric is disposed inside the airbag as in the conventional case, a configuration that can easily fold the base fabric disposed in the inside into a desired shape is required.

The inner surface of the first base fabric portion 21 surrounds the gas introduction portion 24 so as to surround the first to third reinforcing fabrics 31, 32, 33, the catch cloth 34 as the reinforcing fabric, and the protective base fabric. Flameproof cloths 36 are arranged in an overlapping manner. That is, the base fabrics 31, 32, 33, 34, and 36 are formed with the gas introduction part 24 and the attachment hole 26 penetrating therethrough, and the inner side and the outer periphery of the attachment hole 26 with the gas introduction part 24 as the center. The first base fabric portion 21 is sewn and attached by inner peripheral sewing portions 41 and 42 which are arranged on the side and sewed with a thread. Then, the five base fabrics 31, 32, 33, 34, and 36 fixed to each other by the inner peripheral sewing portions 41 and 42 are sandwiched between the retainer 10 and the inflator 9 and are firmly fixed.

And the 1st thru | or 3rd reinforcement cloth 31, 32, 33 is comprised by the substantially annular | circular shaped base cloth, for example, respectively. The first reinforcing cloth 31 is provided with a vent hole reinforcing portion 31a surrounding the vent hole 25 so as to protrude on the outer peripheral side, and each vent hole reinforcing portion 31a is sewn on the vent hole side surrounding the vent hole 25. The portion 43 is attached to the first base fabric portion 21 by sewing.

The catch cloth 34 includes an annular reinforcing cloth main body 34a and a tether attachment that extends from the reinforcing cloth main body 34a in one or more directions on the outer peripheral side, in this embodiment, in three directions. Part 34b. Each tether attachment portion 34b is formed with a sewn portion 44 sewn with a thread, and the base end side of the tether 45 is attached to each tether portion 44 with the sewn portion 44. The tether 45 has a belt shape called a strap, and the tip portion of each tether 45 is sewn to the second base fabric portion 22 in order to restrict the deployment dimension of the airbag 1 to the front side. Further, a fourth reinforcing cloth 47 is attached to the inner surface of the second base cloth portion 22 by being sewn to the second base cloth portion 22 so as to face the gas introduction portion 24.

Further, the flameproof cloth 36 can also be called a flameproof cloth with a flap, and has an annular body part 36a and one or more parts of the body part 36a. A flap portion 36b extending to the side is extended. The main body 36a is formed in a size and shape that covers the entire catch cloth 34, including all the sewing parts 44. Further, each flap portion 36b is a belt-like shape having a width dimension larger than that of each tether 45, and is projected so as not to reach the outer peripheral portion of the outer shell portion 23. The flameproof cloth 36 is connected to the first base cloth part 21 by the inner peripheral sewing parts 41 and 42 in the vicinity of the gas introduction part 24, but the outer peripheral part of the main body part 36a is another member. The free edge portion 36c is not connected to at least the first base fabric portion 21, and the flap portion 36b is also a free end not connected to other members. That is, since the flameproof cloth 36 has no seam exposed on the inner surface of the outer shell 23, the seam does not become a weak part even when high-pressure gas is blown at a high temperature, and the other base cloth 21, 22, 31, 32, 33, 34 and the sewn portion 44 can be effectively protected.

Next, the process of folding the airbag 1 will be described with reference to FIGS.

In this folding step, the front, rear, left, and right sides of the airbag 1 are folded into a roll shape in a predetermined order and overlapped on the passenger side at the center of the airbag 1.

That is, as a flattening step, first, as shown in FIG. 7, the airbag 1 is combined with the retainer 10 and then spread and placed on a flat work table. Here, the description will be made assuming that the first base fabric portion 21 is on the lower side. In this state, the flameproof cloth 36 located on the inner side of the outer shell portion 23 is also made flat along the outer shell portion 23 up to the tip of the flap portion 36b without being disturbed.

Next, as a first folding step, the airbag 1 is folded into a roll shape from the front and rear of the outer peripheral portion. That is, first, as shown in FIG. 8 and FIG. 9, the outer shell portion 23 is folded in a roll shape from the front end to the non-occupant side to form a front lower fold portion 51. Here, the front flap portion 36b of the flameproof cloth 36 is also caught in the front lower fold portion 51, for example, about three times, and the position is determined without being disturbed. Similarly, as shown in FIG. 10, the outer shell portion 23 is folded in a roll shape from the rear end to the non-occupant side to form a rear lower fold portion 52. Here, the flap portion 36b on the rear side of the flameproof cloth 36 is wound around the rear lower folding portion 51, for example, about three times, and the position is determined without being disturbed. That is, in this state, the flameproof cloth 36 is positioned by being wound around the outer shell portion 23 in which the front and rear flap portions 36b are folded in a roll shape, so that it can be twisted in any folding process, etc. There is no disturbance.

Next, as the third folding step of the second folding step, as shown in FIGS. 11 and 12, air is introduced into the outer shell portion 23 from the state shown in FIG. 17 (a). Then, the first base fabric portion 21 and the second base fabric portion 22 are separated from each other, and the front lower side in a so-called alligator shape is formed between the first base fabric portion 21 and the second base fabric portion 22. As shown in FIG. 17 (b), the third folding parts 53 and 53 are formed by sandwiching the folding part 51 and the rear lower folding part 52. And in the state shown in FIG. 12, the airbag 1 becomes the intermediate | middle strip | belt-shaped body 55 long in a both-sides direction.

Next, as a second folding step, the intermediate strip 55 is folded into a roll shape from both sides. That is, first, as shown in FIG. 13, it folds in a roll shape from the left end to the occupant side, and finally folds up to the occupant side as shown in FIG. . Similarly, as shown in FIG. 15, it is folded in a roll shape from the right end to the occupant side, and finally, folded to the occupant side as shown in FIG.

In this state, the airbag 1 is folded into a shape that can be stored in the storage portion B of the airbag device 2, and the folding process is completed.

When gas is supplied to the airbag 1, the airbag 1 is rapidly deployed in both directions in a process opposite to the folding process, and then inflated and deployed in front and back to protect the occupant. At the time of this expansion, the upper, lower, left and right folding parts 51, 52, 56, 57 are in a roll-folded state wound around the non-occupant side, and include the attached member, that is, the steering wheel rim part. Widely flattened along a plane. Furthermore, the front lower side folding part 51 and the rear lower side folding part 52 are the third folding parts 53 folded so as to be sandwiched between the first base cloth part 21 and the second base cloth part 22. Therefore, as shown in FIGS. 17 (b) to 17 (a), it can be deployed flatly and quickly in the front and rear directions. Therefore, when the occupant is seated close to the steering wheel, for example, in Pos-2 in US law FMVSS 208, when the airbag 1 is deployed, the airbag 1 is in the space portion of the rim portion of the steering wheel. It is possible to stably enter the body, and it is possible to realize a preferable development characteristic that it is possible to suppress the behavior such as compression on the chest and pulling the jaw.

Then, according to the present embodiment, the flameproof cloth 36 is disposed so as to surround the gas introduction part 24 and overlap the uppermost part of the other base cloths 31, 32, 33, 34 in the outer shell part 23. Since the outer peripheral portion of the main body portion 36a of the flameproof cloth 36 is not provided with a seam and is a free edge portion 36c that is not fixed to the outer shell portion 23, the airbag 1 is effectively protected from the heat and pressure of the gas. The sewn portion 44 of the cross 34 can be effectively protected.

Here, since the flameproof cloth 36 has a free edge part 36c at the outer peripheral part, it is difficult to position without being disturbed in the folding process, but in the present embodiment, the main body part 36a of the flameproof cloth 36 When a belt-like flap portion 36b is extended from the free edge portion 36c to the outer peripheral side, and the outer shell portion 23 is folded from a flat state as a first folding step, the flap portion 36b of the flameproof cloth 36 is folded. Is rolled into the front lower foldable part 51 and the rear lower foldable part 52 folded in a roll shape, so that the flameproof cloth 36 can be arranged at a desired position. Therefore, even if a folding process such as a process of blowing air into an alligator is adopted as the second folding process following the first folding process, the flameproof cloth 36 is moved along the outer shell 23. For example, it is possible to prevent the flameproof cloth 36 from being disposed so as to cover the gas introduction part 24 while being held in a desired position. Therefore, the gas supplied from the inflator 9 can be quickly introduced into the entire inside of the outer shell portion 23, and the preferred deployment behavior of the airbag 1 can be easily and stably realized.

Therefore, as described above, in Pos-2 in US regulation FMVSS208, when the airbag 1 is deployed, the airbag 1 can stably enter the space of the rim portion of the steering wheel. It is possible to easily realize a preferable development characteristic that a behavior such as pulling the jaw can be easily suppressed by a simple folding operation, and to reduce a manufacturing cost.

In particular, a so-called alligator-folded structure in which the front lower fold part 51 and the rear lower fold part 52 are folded so as to be sandwiched between a first base cloth part 21 and a second base cloth part 22 that are separated from each other. Since the three folding parts 53 are provided, when the airbag 1 is deployed, gas is introduced between the first base cloth part 21 and the second base cloth part 22 of the third folding part 53 that are spaced apart from each other. Gas can be rapidly introduced from the portion 24, and the portion where the outer shell portion 23 is folded from the outer peripheral portion can be quickly guided toward the outer peripheral portion, and can be smoothly and rapidly deployed. Therefore, it is possible to realize a good deployment characteristic that can quickly secure a wide protection area as an occupant restraint surface. Further, since the third folding portion 53 can guide the deployment direction of the airbag 1, the airbag 1 can be opened at the time of so-called OOP deployment in which the airbag device 2 operates in a state where the occupant approaches the airbag device 2. It can be guided so as to be deployed on the rear side, that is, on the meter side with respect to the steering wheel, and a preferable development characteristic can be realized.

Further, the flameproof cloth 36 and the flap part 36b folded in an orderly manner function as a rectifying cloth, and the gas supplied from the inflator 9 is rolled into the second base cloth part 22 side of the airbag 1 and up, down, left and right. The airbag 1 can be deployed in a stable manner by allowing the folded portion to spread stably and reliably.

Moreover, since the flameproof cloth 36 can be stably positioned in the first folding step, the second folding step folds the airbag 1 into a shape that can be stored in the storage portion B by an appropriate folding method. And versatility can be improved.

Further, the folding work is easy, and the manufacturing cost can be reduced by simplifying the process for both manual work and machine folding.

In addition, the shape of the flameproof cloth 36 or the catch cloth 34 can take an appropriate configuration. For example, in the configuration shown in FIG. 1, the main body portion 36a of the flameproof cloth 36 has a circular shape with a diameter that can cover the tether attachment portion 34b provided with the sewing portion 44 of the catch cloth 34. For example, as shown in FIG. 18, the flameproof cloth 36 can be formed in substantially the same shape as the catch cloth 34 except for the flap 36 b. That is, the flameproof cloth 36 is formed so that the diameter dimension of the main body portion 36b is smaller than the configuration shown in FIG. 1 and covers the tether attachment portion 34b of the catch cloth 34. An extending portion 36e is formed to extend in two directions.

Moreover, the flap part 36b is not restricted to the structure extended in two directions of front and back, According to the folding method of the airbag 1, it can also be extended only in one direction or more than three directions. For example, as shown in FIG. 19, the flap part 36b can be extended in four directions of front and rear, right and left.

Further, in each of the above-described embodiments, the flameproof cloth 36 has the entire circumference of the outer peripheral portion as a free edge 36c. For example, as shown in FIG. 20, the free edge 36c of the main body 36a of the flameproof cloth 36 is used. The vicinity is independent of the catch cloth 34, but is not limited to this configuration, and can be connected to other members by sewing or the like. For example, as shown in FIGS. 21 and 22, the base end portion of the tether 45 is sandwiched therebetween, and the extension portion 36e of the flameproof cloth 36 and the tether attachment portion 34b of the catch cloth 34 are sewn by the sewing portion 44. You can also In this configuration, when the airbag 1 is folded, the position of the flameproof cloth 36 can be more easily and accurately positioned, and can be reliably wound into the outer shell portion 23 folded in a roll shape.
