Description

発明の詳細な説明
本発明はユーザのコンテンツ選択を支援する方法とネットワーク装置とに関する。
ユーザが選択可能なコンテンツ量が増加しているため、関心のあるコンテンツを見つけることが難しくなっている。かかるコンテンツのよい例はテレビ番組である。今日では、ユーザが百を超える多数のテレビチャンネルから選択できることはまれではない。そのような場合、関心のあるテレビ番組を見つけることは非常に困難であり時間がかかる。一般的には、ユーザはテレビガイドを購入したり、テキストテレビ（text TV）を使用したりして関心のあるテレビ番組を探す。しかし、これもチャンネルが多数あると面倒であるし、テレビガイドを定期的に購入することが必要となる。さらに、テレビガイドはユーザがアクセスできるテレビチャンネルの一部しかカバーしていないこともある。これは、ユーザが衛星経由でテレビチャンネルにアクセスする場合に起こり得る。テキストテレビを使うのはより一層面倒である。ユーザは各チャンネルに個別に頻繁にアクセスして、関心のあるコンテンツをサーチしなければならないからである。テキストテレビを提供していないチャンネルもあるので、現在のテレビコンテンツに関する情報を得られない。
本発明の目的は、ユーザの関心のあるコンテンツの選択を支援することにより、上記の問題を解決することである。
一態様では、本発明は、ユーザのコンテンツ選択を支援する方法に関する。該方法は、共通の興味を有するユーザを含むユーザグループに入る段階と、前記ユーザグループの少なくとも一部に関心コンテンツの表示を要求する段階と、前記ユーザグループの少なくとも一部から関心コンテンツの表示を受信する段階と、前記ユーザグループの少なくとも一部から受信した関心コンテンツの前記表示に基づき最も人気があるコンテンツのリストを生成する段階と、前記ユーザに前記リストを提示することにより、ユーザの前記コンテンツの選択を支援する段階とを有する。
同一グループのメンバーであるユーザはコンテンツについて共通の興味を有しているので、前記リストがユーザの興味を反映し、そのユーザの前記コンテンツの選択を容易にする。
一実施形態では、コンテンツの前記表示はユーザが録画する予定のテレビ番組を有する。ユーザは、同じグループの他のユーザが何を録画する予定か示す「ヒットリスト（hit list）」を提示することにより、後で放映されるテレビ番組選択を支援される。他の一実施形態では、コンテンツの前記表示はユーザが現在視聴しているテレビ番組を有する。ユーザは、同じグループの他のユーザが現在何を視聴しているか示す「ヒットリスト（hit list）」を提示することにより、現在放映されているテレビ番組選択を支援される。
さらに別の実施形態では、ユーザは２つ以上のユーザグループのメンバーである。そのユーザは、様々なグループに参加することにより、興味のあるコンテンツをカスタマイズできる。このコンテンツがテレビ番組を含む場合、ユーザはそのテレビリストをカスタマイズしてもよい。
さらに別の実施形態では、前記ユーザグループの少なくとも一部に関心コンテンツの前記表示を要求する段階は、１つ以上の一定の時間に前記表示を要求する段階を有する。ユーザはリストが生成される時間を選択できる。ユーザが前記リストを欲するとき、そのリストはすでに生成されているか、ユーザに提示する準備ができている。
さらに別の太陽では、本発明は、処理ユニットに前記方法を実行させる命令を格納したコンピュータ読み取り可能媒体に関する。
他の一態様では、本発明は、ユーザのコンテンツ選択を支援するネットワーク装置に関する。該装置は、共通の興味を有するユーザを含むユーザグループに入る手段と、前記ユーザグループの少なくとも一部に関心コンテンツの表示を要求する手段と、前記ユーザグループの少なくとも一部に関心コンテンツの表示を要求するレシーバと、前記ユーザグループの少なくとも一部から受信した関心コンテンツの前記表示に基づき最も人気があるコンテンツのリストを生成するプロセッサと、前記ユーザに前記リストを提示することにより、ユーザの前記コンテンツの選択を支援する手段とを有する。
一実施形態では、前記ネットワーク装置はハードディスクレコーダである。ピア・ツー・ピアネットワークまたはクライアントサーバネットワークを介して、ハードディスクレコーダを使用しているユーザは録画を予定しているテレビ番組のリストを共有できる。
他の実施形態では、前記ネットワーク装置はテレビである。ピア・ツー・ピアネットワークまたはクライアントサーバネットワークを介して、テレビを使用しているユーザは、現在視聴しているテレビ番組のリストを共有できる。
さらに別の実施形態では、前記ネットワークはピア・ツー・ピアネットワークである。他の実施形態では、前記ネットワークはクライアントサーバネットワークである。
添付した図面を参照して、本発明及びその好ましい実施形態を詳細に説明する。
図１は、本発明の一実施形態を示す図であり、相互グループ１０１のユーザ１０２乃至１０６が含まれている。一般的に、グループは共通の興味（interest）を有するユーザが集まって構成されている。ここに示したグループ１０１は、例えば「私のゴルフクラブ」グループであり、ゴルフとそれに関する一切のことに興味があるユーザにより作られている。それゆえ、このグループのユーザは共通の興味、すなわちゴルフとそれに関する一切のことに関する興味を有すると思われる。これらのユーザ１０２乃至１０６は、例えばピア・ツー・ピアネットワークやクライアントサーバネットワーク等を介してデータを共有し、相互にインターラクトする。
好ましい実施形態では、共有されるデータにはユーザ１０２乃至１０６が視聴する予定である、及び／または現在視聴しているテレビ番組に関するデータが含まれる。このグループのユーザ（例えば１０６）は、他のユーザ１０２乃至１０５に、視聴する予定の番組や現在視聴している番組に関する情報を要求して、関心（interest）のあるテレビ番組について問い合わせる。上記の場合、グループのメンバー１０６は他のユーザ１０２乃至１０５に録画マーク（marked-for-recording）リストを要求し、そのユーザ１０２乃至１０５が、例えばハードディスクレコーダを用いて、今夜または翌日以降または翌週以降にどの番組を録画する予定かを聞く。これは、たとえば、かかるハードディスクレコーダのピア・ツー・ピアネットワークを介して、同じグループのすべてのユーザに録画マークリストを要求することにより行う。これらの録画マークリスト中の番組の頻度を知ることにより、ハードディスクレコーダは、最も人気がある番組が最初になるようにユーザ１０６に結果を提示することができる。「マイゴルフクラブ」グループのメンバーがそのグループの関心（interst）に反する番組（例えばホラー映画）を見ている場合、このホラー映画を見ているグループメンバーはおそらくごく少数であろう。結果的に、ハードディスクレコーダがユーザ１０６にトップファイブ映画等を提示するとき、そのホラー映画はリストに掲載されないであろう。ユーザ１０２乃至１０５は共通の興味（interest）を有しているので、グループの興味に反するトップファイブリスト中の番組は結局ブロックされるであろう。
要求が、ユーザが今何を見ているかを知るためのものである場合、他のユーザ１０２乃至１０５が今何を見ているかしるために、そのグループのユーザ１０６は他のユーザ１０２乃至１０５にチューナ設定を要求することもできる。上記の通り、ユーザが視聴しているテレビ番組のリストを提示する際、グループの興味に反するテレビ番組は、そのテレビ番組を見ているユーザ数が少ないために、ブロックされるであろう。「マイゴルフクラブ」グループの面白いテレビ番組としてリストされる（すなわち、多くのユーザが現在視聴している）テレビ番組の例は、「ケビン・コスナー」主演の「ティンカップ」である。この映画はゴルフプレーヤに関する映画だからである。
一実施形態では、例えば、「マイゴルフクラブ」グループ１０１のユーザ１０２乃至１０６から録画マークリストまたはチューナ設定データを集める時間及び頻度を事前にプログラムして、例えば１９時及び２３時等の一定の時間に１日に２度集めるようにしてもよい。ユーザは録画マークリストが集まるのを待つ必要はない。
一実施形態では、集められた録画マークリストまたはチューナ設定データは一定数のユーザに限定される。これは、グループのメンバー数が非常に多いときに好ましい。
他のグループの例は「天文学グループ」である。このグループのメンバーは天文学等に共通の興味を有している。このグループのユーザから受け取ったチャンネル情報または録画マークリストは、宇宙に関するドキュメンタリーや、天文学者に関する「ジョディ・フォスター」主演の「コンタクト」等の映画に関係しているだろう。
図２は、図１に示したユーザのうち二人１０３、１０４が、第１のグループ１０１に加えて関心のある他のグループ１０７に参加したところを示す図である。ユーザ１０２乃至１０６が参加できるグループの数はもちろん１つや２つのグループだけに限定はされない。ユーザ１０３、１０４が参加した２つのグループは、例えば、「マイゴルフクラブ」グループ１０１と「天文学」グループ１０７である。いくつかのグループに参加することにより、チャンネル情報または録画マークリストを要求しているユーザ１０３、１０４は、これらのグループの両方の（チャンネル情報に基づく）現在のテレビ番組や（録画マークリストに基づく）今夜放映されるテレビ番組等のリストを容易に取得できる。
図３ａは、グループのユーザ全員から要求される録画マーク（mark-for-recording）またはチャンネル情報の例を示す図である。本図は、図１のユーザ１０３を示し、このユーザは「天文学」グループのメンバーでもある。要求は、グループ１０７中の各ユーザ（または限定した人数のユーザ）にピア・ツー・ピアネットワークを介して送信され（３０３乃至３０９）、グループ１０７のすべてのユーザに録画マークリスト（すなわちチャンネル情報）が要求される。図３ｂに示すように、この要求に応じて、録画すべき「ジョディ・フォスター」主演の「コンタクト３１１」を示す録画マークリストが送信される（３１０）。この映画は宇宙にいる他の知的生命の証拠を探す天文学者に関する映画であり、多数のユーザがこの映画を録画マークリストに選択している。かかる応答を集めてから、この映画は「天文学」グループのユーザが視聴する映画として上記のトップファイブリストにリストされる。一実施形態では、このリストは、ユーザ１０３に仮想チャンネルとして提供される。
図４は、テレビ番組のトップ５リスト４０５の例を示す図であり、例として「天文学」グループのユーザが視聴する予定、または現在見ている番組が含まれている。ユーザ４０１は、テレビ４０３の仮想チャンネルとしてこのリストを提示される。一実施形態では、これらの番組が放映されるテレビチャンネルもリストされる。例示した通り、「天文学」グループの最も人気のあるテレビ番組は映画「コンタクト」であり、５番目は宇宙物理学者ステファン・ホーキングに関するドキュメンタリーである。その間には太陽と宇宙に関するドキュメンタリーが入っている。
もちろん、上記の実施形態は、本発明を例示するものであり、限定するものではなく、当業者は、添付したクレームの範囲を逸脱することなく、別の実施形態を多数設計することができる。クレームにおいて、括弧の間に入れた参照符号はクレームを限定するものと解釈してはならない。「有する」という動詞及びその変化形を用いたが、請求項に記載された要素または段階以外の要素の存在を排除するものではない。本発明は、複数のエレメントを有するハードウェアによっても、好適にプログラムされたコンピュータによっても実施することができる。複数の手段を挙げる装置クレームにおいて、これらの手段は、まったく同一のハードウェアにより実施することができる。相異なる従属クレームに手段が記載されているからといって、その手段を組み合わせて有利に使用することができないということではない。
本発明の一実施形態を示す図であり、相互グループのユーザを示している。 図１に示したユーザのうち二人が、第１のグループに加えて関心のある他のグループに参加したところを示す図である。 図３ａ及び図３ｂは、グループのユーザ全員から要求される録画マーク（mark-for-recording）すなわちチャンネル情報の例を示す図である。 テレビ番組のトップ５リストの例を示す図であり、例として「天文学」グループのユーザが視聴する予定の番組が含まれている。

Claims (11)

  1. ユーザのコンテンツ選択を支援する方法であって、
    共通の興味を有するユーザを含むユーザグループに入る段階と、
    前記ユーザグループの少なくとも一部に関心コンテンツの表示を要求する段階と、
    前記ユーザグループの少なくとも一部から関心コンテンツの表示を受信する段階と、
    前記ユーザグループの少なくとも一部から受信した関心コンテンツの前記表示に基づき最も人気があるコンテンツのリストを生成する段階と、
    前記ユーザに前記リストを提示することにより、ユーザの前記コンテンツの選択を支援する段階とを有する方法。
  2. コンテンツの前記表示はユーザが録画する予定のテレビ番組を有する、請求項１に記載の方法。
  3. コンテンツの前記表示はユーザが現在視聴しているテレビ番組を有する、請求項１に記載の方法。
  4. ユーザは２つ以上のグループのメンバーである、請求項１乃至３いずれか一項に記載の方法。
  5. 前記ユーザグループの少なくとも一部に関心コンテンツの前記表示を要求する段階は、１つ以上の一定の時間に前記表示を要求する段階を有する、請求項１乃至４いずれか一項に記載の方法。
  6. 処理ユニットに請求項１乃至５に記載の方法を実行させる命令が格納されたコンピュータ読み取り可能媒体。
  7. ユーザのコンテンツ選択を支援するネットワーク装置であって、
    共通の興味を有するユーザを含むユーザグループに入る手段と、
    前記ユーザグループの少なくとも一部に関心コンテンツの表示を要求する手段と、
    前記ユーザグループの少なくとも一部に関心コンテンツの表示を要求するレシーバと、
    前記ユーザグループの少なくとも一部から受信した関心コンテンツの前記表示に基づき最も人気があるコンテンツのリストを生成するプロセッサと、
    前記ユーザに前記リストを提示することにより、ユーザの前記コンテンツの選択を支援する手段とを有するネットワーク装置。
  8. 前記ネットワーク装置はハードディスクレコーダである、請求項７に記載のネットワーク装置。
  9. 前記ネットワーク装置はテレビである、請求項７または８に記載のネットワーク装置。
