Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a point defect correcting device and a method for manufacturing a liquid crystal device.
There are the following methods for manufacturing a liquid crystal device. For example, a switching element (for example, TFT) or a pixel electrode is provided on one glass substrate of a pair of glass substrates, and a counter electrode or the like is provided on the other glass substrate, and then both the glass substrates are bonded together with a spacer. And it is the method of injecting a liquid crystal between both glass substrates, forming a liquid-crystal layer, and sticking a polarizing plate to the surface of both glass substrates after that, respectively.
The manufacturing process of the liquid crystal device as described above may include a step of performing various inspections at a predetermined timing to detect defects. For example, in an inspection performed after the liquid crystal layer is formed, a pair of inspection polarizing plates are arranged so as to sandwich both glass substrates, an inspection backlight is turned on, and a switching element is driven to cause a display defect. May be checked for presence.
In such an inspection process, for example, when a foreign object has entered the liquid crystal layer, the bright spot that appears bright despite the fact that the light hits the foreign object contained in the liquid crystal layer and is irregularly reflected. It may be detected as a defect. The bright spot defects significantly deteriorate display quality and deteriorate manufacturing yield.
By the way, when filling curable resin with respect to the recessed part formed in the glass substrate as mentioned above, the filling shall be performed manually. Therefore, naturally, there is a difference in application accuracy depending on the operator, and a resin residue or a light-shielding resin application failure occurs, which contributes to a decrease in yield. Further, the cutting work and the resin coating work are separate work, which is a very expensive work.
The present invention has been made based on the above-described circumstances, and can reliably correct a point defect generated in a liquid crystal device, and can be easily and reproducibly corrected at a low cost. An object of the present invention is to provide a point defect correcting apparatus capable of performing the above. Another object of the present invention is to provide a method of manufacturing a liquid crystal device using such a point defect correcting device.
In order to solve the above problems, a point defect correcting apparatus according to the present invention is a point defect correcting apparatus for correcting a point defect of a liquid crystal device, wherein the liquid crystal device has a liquid crystal layer sandwiched between a pair of glass substrates. When a point defect is detected in the liquid crystal device, a camera that photographs the point defect, a drill that cuts the glass substrate at the position where the point defect has occurred, and the drill A dispenser that applies a light shielding material to the cut position is provided as an integrated device.
According to the point defect correcting apparatus of the present invention, from the glass substrate cutting of the point defect position to the application of the light shielding material can be performed consistently by the apparatus, and further, it is automatically performed until the application of the light shielding material by the dispenser. Therefore, it becomes possible to improve the application accuracy and, consequently, the correction accuracy. That is, according to the present invention, it is possible to surely correct a point defect generated in the liquid crystal device, and it is possible to correct the defect at a low cost with simple and good reproducibility, without requiring a manual operation. In particular, since the camera, drill, and dispenser are configured as an integrated device, they can be operated in a coordinated manner, and correction work can be completed in one batch with a single work table. Highly efficient correction can be performed.
The point defect correcting apparatus may further include a monitor that displays an image captured by the camera, and the drill may be capable of adjusting a cutting position of the glass substrate while visually checking the monitor.
Thus, by adjusting the drill cutting position while visually recognizing the monitor, the cutting position can be easily specified. Specifically, the tip position (center position) of the drill is projected on the monitor, and the cutting of the drill can be started when the tip position overlaps the defect position on the monitor. That is, it is possible to provide a video output unit that displays the position of the tip of the drill on the monitor.
The point defect correcting device further includes a dispenser cleaning unit that cleans the dispenser, and the dispenser cleaning unit cleans the dispenser while waiting for application of the light shielding material of the dispenser. Can do.
By providing the dispenser cleaning unit in this way, it is possible to prevent the occurrence of problems such as clogging due to the light-blocking material becoming solid at the tip of the dispenser while waiting for the light-blocking material to be applied (interval time). Become.
The point defect correcting device may further include a control unit that collectively controls operation of the camera, the drill, and the dispenser.
By providing the control unit in this way, it is possible to collectively control the operation of point defect monitoring, drill position adjustment, dispenser application control (application amount control) based on the point defect detection result. It becomes.
Moreover, the said point defect correction apparatus WHEREIN: According to the thickness of the said glass substrate, the drill-substrate space | interval adjustment part which adjusts the depth of the cutting to the said glass substrate by the said drill can be further provided.
Thus, by providing a drill-substrate space | interval adjustment part, it becomes possible to cut according to the thickness of a glass substrate. Accordingly, it is possible to prevent the occurrence of a problem that penetrates the glass substrate by cutting, and it is possible to form a recess having a depth suitable for shielding point defects.
In the point defect correcting device, the center position of the tip of the drill may coincide with the focal point of the camera.
If the center position of the drill tip coincides with the focal point of the camera in this way, it is possible to image point defects with the camera and simultaneously adjust the plane position of the drill. Work can be performed.
Next, in order to solve the above-described problem, a method for manufacturing a liquid crystal device according to the present invention is a method for manufacturing a liquid crystal device using the above-described point defect correcting device, the inspection step for inspecting for the presence or absence of point defects, A point defect correcting step of correcting the point defect by the point defect correcting device when the point defect is detected in the inspection step.
According to such a manufacturing method, since the point defect is corrected using the point defect correcting device, the generated point defect can be reliably corrected and can be easily corrected with high reproducibility. Therefore, it is possible to contribute to cost reduction of the liquid crystal device. The point defect correction process includes a defect coordinate acquisition process for specifying a defect position, a process for moving the camera to the coordinate position, and a process for determining a focus position (planar position) of the drill based on a captured image of the camera. The process of determining the thickness of the glass substrate and determining the cutting depth of the drill, the process of cutting the glass substrate to a predetermined depth with the drill, and applying a light shielding material from the dispenser to the recess formed by the cutting And a step of performing.
According to the present invention, it is possible to reliably correct a point defect that has occurred, and to easily correct the defect with good reproducibility, thereby contributing to cost reduction of the liquid crystal device.

First, an outline of the configuration of the
As shown roughly in FIG. 1, the
As shown in FIG. 2, a
On the other hand, among the
Next, a method for manufacturing the
Here, a manufacturing process including a point defect correcting process will be mainly described.
First, a
In the above manufacturing process, after the
Specifically, as shown in FIG. 3, a pair of
For the inspection, for example, an
For example, there is a case where a point defect that is shining in a dot shape and is visually recognized despite the black display. This point defect may occur as a result of light hitting the foreign matter X that has entered the
When a point defect is detected in the inspection process as described above, a step of correcting the point defect is performed. In the point defect correcting step, the
In the present embodiment, a point
The
The
The
The
The
The
First, as shown in FIG. 6, when the
On the other hand, when application is performed by the
The point
In the point
First, in S1, a defect detection process is performed. Specifically, the presence or absence of a point defect is inspected by the defect inspection unit (inspection apparatus) 30. If a point defect is detected as shown in S2, the process proceeds to S3, and the
In step S5, the
