Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a friction material used for industrial machines, railway vehicles, luggage vehicles, passenger cars, and the like, and more particularly to a method for synthesizing an organic friction modifier that is blended in the friction material.
Friction materials used for brakes such as disc brakes and drum brakes, or clutches, etc., give frictional effects and adjust the frictional performance. It is made of materials such as binding material.
Among them, there are friction modifiers and solid lubricants as materials that adjust the friction characteristics of the friction material, but these also have inorganic and organic types, each with their own characteristics. Since it is difficult to satisfy the requirements, two or more types are usually used in combination. Examples of the friction modifier include inorganic friction modifiers such as alumina, silica, magnesia, zirconia, copper, aluminum, and zinc, and organic friction modifiers such as rubber powder and resin powder, and solid lubricants. Examples include graphite and molybdenum disulfide. Incidentally, cashew dust or the like has been used as an organic friction adjusting material in a conventional brake friction material. Organic friction modifiers such as cashew dust are liquefied on the friction surface at a mating material temperature of about 200-250 ° C and lubricate to prevent wear of the friction material and mating material, stabilize the friction coefficient, and reduce noise. Contributes to prevention.
As described above, cashew dust is often used as an organic friction modifier. The outline of the synthesis process of cashew dust is as follows.
(1) Mix raw materials (cashew nut sur liquids, phenols, aldehydes as curing agents).
(2) The acid catalyst is mixed.
(3) Gelling at room temperature.
(4) Heat treatment at a predetermined temperature to cure the gel.
In the above specific production method, CNSL is put into a reaction can, polymerized under a temperature condition of 240 ° C. to 260 ° C. for 12 hours, cooled to 40 ° C. or lower, and foamed into the reaction solution. Add and mix the agent, then transfer the mixture to a kneader, add hexamethylenetetramine and further mix, then place the mixture thinly in a vat, 8 hours at 80 ° C., 10 hours at 150-165 ° C. It is heat-treated and heat-cured, cooled and pulverized to obtain fine cashew dust of 40 mesh or less.
However, the curing reaction by heat treatment as described in “Patent Document 1” is accompanied by rapid heat generation and may cause ignition / explosion depending on conditions. Moreover, since the heat treatment temperature is as high as about 200 ° C., the energy cost increases.
Usually, formaldehyde (or paraformaldehyde), or hexamine (hexamethylenetetramine) and furfural are generally used as curing agents for curing CNSL or its polymer, but when furfural is used as a curing agent. Cashew dust having a high hardness is obtained, and when formaldehyde or hexamine is used, a soft cashew dust having a lower hardness than the former is obtained.
When soft cashew dust is blended with the friction material, the friction coefficient decreases, and a sufficient friction coefficient may not be obtained. Therefore, hard cashew dust having high heat resistance is often used as the cashew dust of the friction material.
However, in any case, a polymer (oligomer) obtained by addition polycondensation of CNSL is subjected to heat treatment at a high temperature using an ordinary oven, so that the polymer is easily oxidized, and the heating temperature is higher. When this happens, it becomes difficult to control the temperature of the curing reaction, and there is a risk of explosion and ignition due to abrupt heat generation due to auto-oxidation due to the presence of oxygen and heat.
Accordingly, a first object of the present invention is to provide a heat curing method capable of keeping the temperature control of the curing reaction constant when synthesizing an organic friction modifier by polymerizing and curing reaction of CNSL.
In addition, since the polymer of CNSL is heat-treated at a high temperature for a long time, in the ordinary oven, the polymer is easily oxidized in the presence of oxygen, which causes rapid heat generation and explosion / ignition due to auto-oxidation. Therefore, the second object of the present invention is to provide a method for synthesizing an organic friction modifier that can be cured and heat-treated in the absence of oxygen or in an oxygen-free state.
The object of the present invention has been achieved by the following means.
(1) In a method for synthesizing an organic friction modifier, a primary polymer of cashew nut shell liquid obtained by reacting cashew nut shell liquid with a curing agent is subjected to a heat curing reaction, cooled and pulverized to obtain a friction modifier. A method for synthesizing an organic friction modifier, characterized in that superheated steam is used in a heat curing reaction.
(2) The method for synthesizing an organic friction modifier as described in (1) above, wherein the cashew nut shell liquid is a monomer, an oligomer, a modified cashew nut shell liquid, or a mixture thereof.
The method for synthesizing an organic friction modifier using superheated steam according to the present invention can suppress auto-oxidation that occurs in the presence of oxygen and high heat because the superheated steam contains almost no oxygen. For this reason, the organic friction modifier is rapidly heated by auto-oxidation during the curing reaction, and the risk of explosion and ignition is greatly reduced, which has a great effect on stabilizing the manufacturing process of the friction modifier.
Furthermore, the use of superheated steam makes it possible to recirculate the steam used for the heat-curing treatment of the friction modifier, thereby saving energy consumed in the reaction process.
Hereinafter, the present invention will be described in detail.
The present invention is to heat a primary polymer obtained by reacting CNSL (monomer, oligomer, modified CNSL or a mixture thereof) with a curing agent (hexamethylenetetramine, furfural, paraformaldehyde, a self-curing resin or a mixture thereof). The treatment is carried out with superheated steam.
As described above, the method for synthesizing the organic friction modifier of the present invention is characterized by the process of using superheated steam for the curing heat treatment of the CNSL resin. Add aldehydes (paraformaldehyde, furfural, self-curing resin, or a mixture thereof) and acid catalyst to CNSL, and perform addition condensation polymerization to oligomers of dimer or higher, and if necessary, such as hexamethylenetetramine After adding a curing agent and gelling, it is directly heated with high-temperature superheated steam and cured, and this is cooled and crushed, improving the wear resistance of the friction material and adjusting the friction coefficient to stabilize the friction coefficient Use as material.
And after mixing the friction material raw materials uniformly including the organic friction modifier obtained by the production method of the present invention, the powder mixture is pressurized and preformed, and then thermoformed under pressure, A friction material is produced.
The superheated steam used in the present invention is steam heated to a temperature equal to or higher than the boiling point of water at a certain pressure, and retains a high amount of heat because only steam exists. If such superheated steam is used for heat curing treatment of organic friction modifiers, the specific heat of superheated steam is much greater than that of air and the thermal conductivity of the polymer is high, so the control of the curing reaction is stable and the synthesis The quality of the organic friction modifier is improved.
In the curing heat treatment of the organic friction material of the present invention, the temperature of the superheated steam to be used is required to be a high temperature necessary for sufficiently performing the heat curing treatment, but is usually preferably in the range of 100 to 250 ° C. In addition, the superheated steam generator used in the present invention may be any type of apparatus as long as it can generate superheated steam at a temperature necessary for the heat curing process.
Usually, since oxygen is hardly contained in superheated steam, autooxidation generated in the presence of oxygen and heat can be suppressed by using superheated steam as a heat source for the heat curing reaction in the present invention. Therefore, the organic friction material generates heat rapidly, and the risk of explosion and ignition is greatly reduced. Therefore, superheated steam has a very large effect on stabilizing the friction material manufacturing process.
Furthermore, by using heated steam, it is possible to recycle the steam used for the heat treatment, and it is possible to save energy consumed in the reaction process.
In addition, when exhaust is necessary, when a gas such as high-temperature air is used, the entire exhaust system needs to be exhausted, so the exhaust device becomes large, but the superheated steam can be condensed and the steam can be recovered as a liquid. Therefore, when using superheated steam, a small exhaust device can be used.
Therefore, the capacity of the exhaust device can be small, and the merit is great compared to the case of using a high-temperature gas in terms of energy and cost. In particular, the larger the scale of the heat treatment apparatus, the greater the merit.
However, if necessary, other gases not containing oxygen such as nitrogen can be mixed with superheated steam and used. Thus, when mixing and using superheated steam and other gas, it is preferable to preheat the gas to mix and adjust to the temperature which does not cause the water vapor | steam in superheated steam to condense. Moreover, the method of mixing superheated steam and other gas may mix in piping, a nozzle, and the inside of a heat processing machine.
The CNSL used in the present invention is a liquid (oil) extracted from a cashew nut shell containing cardanol, cardol, methyl cardol or anacardic acid as a raw material, and is used as a main component of cardanol. It is. Cardanol is a phenol derivative having a linear or branched aliphatic hydrocarbon group having 10 to 30 carbon atoms in the m-position, and the hydrocarbon group contains an unsaturated bond composed of alkenyl, diene and triene.
When synthesizing the organic friction modifier of the present invention, CNSL may be a monomer as it is or may be purified by distillation or the like. Or a modified product thereof. Furthermore, it may be a monomer, an oligomer or a mixture of these modified products.
Next, the liquid initial polymer obtained by reacting with a curing agent is heated and cured at 80 to 250 ° C. for about 1 to 10 hours using superheated steam. Finally, the obtained cured product is pulverized to obtain an organic friction modifier. The center particle diameter of the pulverized organic friction modifier is about 50 to 500 μm, but in order to prevent excessive sedimentation when mixing the friction material raw material or filling the preform mold, It is desirable to align to about 100 to 500 μm.
In blending the friction material, those usually used are used. As the fiber substrate for reinforcement, heat-resistant organic fibers, inorganic fibers, and metal fibers are used. Examples of the heat-resistant organic fibers include aromatic polyamide fibers and flame-resistant acrylic fibers. Examples of inorganic fibers include ceramic fibers such as potassium titanate fibers and alumina fibers, glass fibers, carbon fibers, and rock wool. For example, copper fiber or steel fiber is used as the metal fiber. As the inorganic filler, particles such as barium sulfate and calcium carbonate are used.
As the binder, for example, phenol resin (including various modified phenol resins such as straight phenol resin and rubber), melamine resin, epoxy resin and the like are used. As the friction modifier, for example, inorganic friction modifiers such as alumina, silica, magnesia, zirconia, copper, aluminum, and zinc, and organic friction modifiers such as rubber powder and resin powder are used. For example, graphite or molybdenum disulfide is used as the solid lubricant.
The reinforcing fiber base material is preferably 15 to 40 mass% of the entire friction material, 10 to 25 mass% of the friction modifier, 35 to 70 mass% of the filler, and 6 to 24 mass% of the binder.
The friction material can be manufactured by a well-known manufacturing process. For example, the friction material can be manufactured through processes such as preforming, thermoforming, heating, and polishing. In the case of a disc brake friction pad manufacturing process, a pressure plate formed into a predetermined shape by a sheet metal press, degreased and primed, and coated with an adhesive, heat resistant organic fibers and inorganic fibers Mixing fiber base materials such as metal fibers and powder raw materials such as inorganic and organic fillers, friction modifiers, and binders, and molding the raw materials sufficiently homogenized by stirring at room temperature with a predetermined pressure (preliminary) The preform formed by molding) is subjected to a predetermined temperature and pressure in the thermoforming process, and both members are fixed together, after-curing, and finally a finishing process is performed. It can be manufactured by such a process.
