Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a method for manufacturing an organic electroluminescence (EL) panel. More specifically, the present invention relates to a method for producing an organic EL panel containing a metal oxide in a hole transport layer.
An organic EL element is generally a self-luminous all-solid element composed of a pair of electrodes composed of an anode and a cathode, and a light emitting layer sandwiched between the pair of electrodes, and has high visibility and impact. Therefore, it is expected to be widely applied.
Examples of the light emitting material used for the organic EL element include a low molecular weight material and a high molecular weight material. At present, devices using low molecular weight materials are ahead in practical use of organic EL elements. Although polymer materials may not be as good as low-molecular materials in terms of lifetime and light emission efficiency, they may be superior to low-molecular materials in the future, such as cost reduction and large area by applying processes using printing methods. have.
A general organic EL element using a polymer material is, for example, a transparent anode made of indium tin oxide (ITO), a light emitting layer made of a polymer material, and a Ca / Al on a glass substrate. It has a structure in which cathodes made of the like are sequentially stacked.
However, although such a conventional organic EL device has sufficiently high luminance and light emission efficiency, its lifetime is not sufficient in view of application to actual products, and its application range is limited. Therefore, various measures have been conventionally studied to improve the life characteristics.
For example, as shown in FIG. 6, a hole transport layer containing a hole transport material is provided between the anode and the light emitting layer from the viewpoint of improving the hole transport efficiency to the light emitting layer in the polymer organic EL element, It has been proposed that the substrate /
Therefore, as another means for improving the device life, a metal oxide layer is provided instead of PEDOT-PSS, and as shown in FIG. 7,
Then, when the present inventors actually manufactured this element based on
Here, when reorganizing each problem when using PEDOT-PSS and metal oxide, although using PEDOT-PSS is excellent in reducing leakage current and current efficiency, the lifetime in practical use is achieved. Not. On the other hand, when a metal oxide is used, a long life with a specific color is realized, but there is room for improvement in terms of an increase in leakage current and a decrease in current efficiency.
On the other hand, a method for improving the device lifetime by doping a metal oxide with a coating type hole transport material such as PEDOT-PSS is disclosed (for example, see Patent Document 2). However, doping a metal oxide that is insoluble or hardly soluble in the hole transport material into the coating type hole transport material is a method in which a commercially available metal oxide is purchased and directly dissolved in the hole transport material. Cannot be realized.
It is considered that a metal oxide can be doped into the hole transport material by co-evaporation or the like if it is a low molecular material, but for example, in a wet process used in a polymer material, it is insoluble in the hole transport material or It is difficult to dope a coating type hole transport material with a hardly soluble metal oxide.
The present invention has been made in view of the above-mentioned present situation, and an organic EL panel capable of realizing both an improvement in the lifetime of an organic EL panel and a reduction in leakage current can be easily manufactured in a good form. It is an object to provide a method for doing this.
The inventors of the present invention have made various studies on methods for greatly improving the lifetime of the organic EL panel and reducing the leakage current. As a result, a hole transport layer is formed using a hole transport layer material solution containing a metal oxide. It has been noted that an organic EL panel capable of realizing both an improvement in lifetime and a reduction in leakage current can be obtained by manufacturing the above. And, in order to obtain such an organic EL panel, it is conventional to dissolve a metal oxide in a hole transport material, particularly in wet process conditions suitable for increasing the area of the organic EL panel. (1) Dissolve the metal oxide layer formed on the substrate under certain conditions directly in the hole transport material solution, or (2) By preparing a hole transport material solution containing a metal oxide in another process having conditions, a metal oxide that is normally insoluble or hardly soluble in the hole transport material solution can be dissolved in the hole transport material. It has been found that the organic EL panel thus manufactured has improved life characteristics, leakage current and current efficiency.
So far, a method of doping a metal oxide with a hole transport material is generally known. Doping usually means adding a small amount of impurities to the crystal for the purpose of changing the properties of the semiconductor. In addition to adjusting the concentration of electrons and holes (carriers) by adding impurities, it is used to variously control the band structure such as the forbidden band width and physical characteristics. On the other hand, in the present invention, not only improvement of characteristics by such a doping method, but by producing a solution or dispersion of a plurality of materials, which has been impossible in the past, only the advantages of individual characteristics can be extracted. Can do. That is, according to the manufacturing method of the organic EL panel of the present invention, an organic EL panel having both advantages such as the injection characteristics and buffer characteristics of PEDOT-PSS and the improvement of the life characteristics of the metal oxide can be obtained. Become. In addition, since a new effect was not expressed by doping two different types of hole transport materials, it is difficult to express the disadvantages of each material, and only the advantages can be realized. Yes. Thus, the present inventors have conceived that the above problems can be solved brilliantly, and have reached the present invention.
That is, the present invention is a method for producing an organic electroluminescence panel comprising an organic electroluminescence element having an anode, a hole transport layer containing a metal oxide, a light emitting layer, and a cathode in this order on a substrate. In the manufacturing method, a metal oxide layer is formed, and a hole transport material solution is applied on the metal oxide layer to dissolve at least a part of the metal oxide layer. And a step of forming a hole transport layer to be contained (hereinafter also referred to as a first method for producing an organic EL panel).
Further, the present invention is a method for producing an organic electroluminescence panel comprising an organic electroluminescence element having an anode, a hole transport layer containing a metal oxide, a light emitting layer, and a cathode in this order on a substrate. The above manufacturing method is a manufacturing method of an organic electroluminescence panel in which a hole transporting material solution containing a metal oxide is applied to form a hole transporting layer (hereinafter also referred to as a second organic EL panel manufacturing method). It is also.)
Of the organic EL panel manufacturing method of the present invention, first, the first organic EL panel manufacturing method will be described in detail below.
The first organic EL panel production method of the present invention comprises an organic EL device comprising an organic EL element having an anode, a hole transport layer containing a metal oxide, a light emitting layer, and a cathode in this order on a substrate. It is a manufacturing method of a panel. The organic EL element provided in the organic EL panel produced according to the present invention has at least an anode, a hole transport layer, a light emitting layer, and a cathode. When a constant voltage is applied between the anode and the cathode, holes move from the anode toward the light emitting layer, and electrons move from the cathode toward the light emitting layer. The energy state of the molecules in the light emitting layer is pushed up from the ground state to the excited state, and light is generated from the light emitting layer provided between the anode and the cathode, and this light is used for organic EL display. The hole transport layer is a layer for facilitating movement of holes from the anode in this way. The hole transport layer of the organic EL panel produced by the present invention contains a metal oxide. By including a metal oxide in the hole transport layer, it is possible to improve the lifetime of the organic EL element, decrease the leakage current, and improve the current efficiency. Further, driving at a low voltage can be achieved by reducing leakage current and / or improving current efficiency. As a structure of the organic EL element produced by this production method, as long as such a component is formed as an essential component, it may or may not include other components. In addition, a hole injection layer may be provided between the anode and the hole transport layer, and an electron transport layer and / or an electron injection layer may be provided between the light emitting layer and the cathode. Such an organic EL element is provided with a sealing substrate made of, for example, transparent glass or plastic, and an organic EL panel is manufactured.
The manufacturing method includes forming a metal oxide layer, applying a hole transport material solution onto the metal oxide layer, dissolving at least a part of the metal oxide layer, and containing the metal oxide. Forming a hole transport layer. In this way, a hole transport layer containing a metal oxide can be satisfactorily formed by once forming a metal oxide layer and directly applying the hole transport material solution thereto. In particular, according to this method, it is possible to easily dissolve the metal oxide in the hole transport material even when a polymer material is used for the light emitting layer. The metal oxide layer dissolved according to the present invention may be completely dissolved or may remain partially, and in any case, a certain amount of life characteristic improvement, leakage current reduction, and current Efficiency can be improved. In the present specification, “dissolving” refers to decomposition and mixing at the molecular level, and includes, for example, dispersion. The “hole transport material solution” refers to a solution formed by dissolving at least one kind of generally used hole transport material in at least one kind of solvent. Further, as long as at least one “metal oxide” contained in the hole transport material solution is present, a plurality of types may be present in the solution. In the present invention, as the hole transport material, all aqueous solutions such as PEDOT-PSS can be applied. The present invention may include other steps as long as such a step is essential. For example, if a material having other functionality is mixed, the characteristics of the material can be added. Therefore, desired characteristics can be derived by mixing functional materials necessary for the characteristics of the device in this manner.
The organic electroluminescence element preferably has a metal oxide layer between the anode and the hole transport layer. By forming a metal oxide layer between the anode and the hole transport layer, the life characteristics are further improved. Note that when the metal oxide layer is not provided in the organic EL element, the leakage current is further reduced as compared with the case where the metal oxide layer is provided.
In the above production method, the concentration of the metal oxide in the hole transport layer containing the metal oxide is preferably 0.01 to 1 g / ml. By setting to such a range, an organic EL element with improved life characteristics, leakage current, and current efficiency can be obtained.
Next, the manufacturing method of the 2nd organic EL panel among the manufacturing methods of the organic EL panel of this invention is explained in full detail below.
The second method of the present invention is a method for producing an organic EL panel comprising an organic EL element having an anode, a hole transport layer containing a metal oxide, a light emitting layer, and a cathode in this order on a substrate. is there. Since the organic EL panel manufactured by the method for manufacturing the second organic EL panel of the present invention also has the same configuration as the organic EL panel manufactured by the method for manufacturing the first organic EL panel of the present invention, The description is omitted here.
In the manufacturing method, a hole transport layer is formed using a hole transport material solution containing a metal oxide. Thus, for example, by using a hole transport material solution containing a metal oxide because the metal oxide is dissolved, a hole transport layer containing the metal oxide can be satisfactorily produced. . The present invention is a method obtained by preparing a hole transport material solution containing a metal oxide separately from an organic EL panel to be a finished product. In the present invention, other steps may be included as long as such steps are essential. For example, if materials having other functionalities are mixed, the characteristics of the materials are added. Therefore, the desired characteristics can be derived by mixing functional materials necessary for the characteristics of the element in this manner.
The above manufacturing method includes a step of forming a metal oxide layer on a preparation substrate, a step of applying a solvent on the metal oxide layer to prepare a metal oxide solution, A step of mixing a hole transporting material solution to prepare a hole transporting material solution containing a metal oxide, and applying a hole transporting material solution containing the metal oxide to form a hole transporting layer It is preferable to include the process to do. Thus, first, a metal oxide solution was prepared by dissolving a metal oxide in a solvent, and a hole transport material solution was prepared by dissolving a hole transport material in a solvent, and then these were mixed. By using the solution, a hole transport layer containing a metal oxide can be easily and efficiently produced. In particular, similarly to the above-described method, this method can easily dissolve the metal oxide in the hole transport material even when a polymer material is used for the light emitting layer. In addition, in order to melt | dissolve a hole transport material, it is preferable to add 0.01-1g of solutes with respect to 1ml of solvents.
In the above production method, the concentration of the metal oxide in the hole transport material solution containing the metal oxide is preferably 0.01 to 1 g / ml. By setting to such a range, an organic EL element with improved life characteristics, leakage current, and current efficiency can be obtained.
Below, the form suitable for both the manufacturing method of a 1st organic EL panel and the manufacturing method of a 2nd organic EL panel is explained in full detail.
In the production method, it is preferable to form a metal oxide film by vapor deposition. According to the vapor deposition method, the thickness of the metal oxide layer can be easily adjusted, and therefore, the adjustment of the subsequent step of dissolving the metal oxide layer in the hole transport material is facilitated.
The vapor deposition is preferably performed at a vacuum degree of 5 × 10 −4 to 5 × 10 −3 Pa and a film formation rate of 0.1 to 0.5 nm / s. By setting the vapor deposition conditions in this way, oxygen atoms in the metal oxide layer after film formation are deficient or excessively contained or formed as shown below. Since the amorphous state of the metal oxide layer after the film can be suitably formed, the hole transport material can be easily dissolved in the metal oxide layer.
In the above production method, it is preferable that unevenness of 1 to 10 nm is formed on the surface of the formed hole transport layer on the light emitting layer side. Since the organic EL panel manufactured in this way has irregularities in nano-order units formed on the surface of the hole transport layer on the light emitting layer side, for example, a co-evaporation method as shown in
In the above production method, it is preferable that oxygen atoms in the formed metal oxide layer are lost or oxygen atoms are excessively contained. By forming the metal oxide layer in such a state, the hole transport material can be easily dissolved in the metal oxide layer. This is because, when a metal oxide with oxygen atoms deficient or containing excessive oxygen atoms is mixed into a polar solution, the metal oxide is ionized and dissolved in an ionic solution. .
In the above production method, the metal oxide layer formed is preferably amorphous. By forming the metal oxide layer in such a state, the hole transport material can be easily dissolved in the metal oxide layer. This is formed when the amorphous form is in a state where the metal oxide has a weak molecular bond. When an amorphous substance is mixed in the solution, the structure becomes brittle, This is because it is dispersed inside. In this specification, “amorphous” can also be referred to as an amorphous state, for example, a state having no fixed form such as a spherical shape or a needle shape.

In addition, the organic EL lighting device provided with such an organic EL panel also has a long life because leakage current is suppressed.
Below, the manufacturing method of the organic electroluminescent panel of a present Example is explained in full detail.
First, a substrate 1 (manufactured by Asahi Glass Co., Ltd.) having a 2 mm wide stripe-shaped anode made of ITO having a film thickness of 15 nm on a 25 mm square glass substrate was prepared. Molybdenum trioxide (MoO 3 ) was deposited on the
After forming the MoO 3 layer to a thickness of 50 nm, PEDOT-PSS was applied on the MoO 3 layer by a spin coating method without performing UV ozone treatment or heat treatment. Here, if the film thickness of the MoO 3 layer is 50 nm or more, the entire MoO 3 layer cannot be solved by PEDOT-PSS. Thus, a
Next, the organic EL light emitting material as described above is spin-coated at 3000 rpm for 30 seconds on the
Next, Ba was vapor-deposited on the
Finally, a 20 mm square glass substrate for sealing was bonded with a UV curable resin in a nitrogen atmosphere to complete an organic EL panel. As shown in FIG. 1, the organic EL panel produced in this manner is in the order of
An organic EL device (3) (FIG. 1) produced in this example, an organic EL device (1) using PEDOT-PSS containing no metal oxide as a hole transport layer (conventional example 1; FIG. 6), As a result of comparing the characteristics of the element lifetime, leakage current and production efficiency with the organic EL element (2) (conventional example 2; FIG. 7) in which a metal oxide layer is formed instead of the hole transport layer, It became as shown in Table 1. In addition, the numerical value in a table | surface shows each characteristic value when an organic EL element (1) is 100% as a positive hole transport layer. In addition, each characteristic value is compared based on the measurement result of the light emission time (h) for the element lifetime, the current amount (A) for the leakage current, and the current efficiency for the ratio between the luminance and the applied voltage.
According to this example, it was possible to produce an organic EL element having a leakage current reduced more than that of the organic EL element (2) (conventional example 2). In addition, it was possible to produce an organic EL element having an element lifetime improved by 20% as compared with the organic EL element (1) (conventional example 1) and current efficiency by about 10%.
In addition, in order to compare the rise of current between the organic EL element (1) (conventional example 1) and the organic EL element (3) (example 1), an IV characteristic test was performed. A graph showing the measurement results at this time is shown in FIG. As shown in FIG. 5, the organic EL element (3) the rise of current density (Example 1) (mA / cm 2), the organic EL device (1) current density (Conventional Example 1) (mA / cm 2 ) Occurs at a voltage (V) lower than the rise of (), and this indicates that the organic EL element (3) (Example 1) is more likely to inject charges (holes).
(Example 2)
As shown in FIG. 2, the organic EL panel produced in this example is a
According to this example, it was possible to produce an organic EL element in which the leakage current was reduced to about half that of the organic EL element of Example 1. Moreover, the organic EL element whose element lifetime was improved about 10% compared with the organic EL element of Example 1 was able to be produced.
(Example 3)
As shown in FIG. 3, the organic EL panel produced in this example is an organic EL layered in the order of
An organic EL element (5) (FIG. 3) produced in this example, an organic EL element (1) using PEDOT-PSS containing no metal oxide as a hole transport layer (conventional example 1; FIG. 6), As a result of comparing the characteristics of the element lifetime, leakage current and current efficiency with the organic EL element (2) (conventional example 2; FIG. 7) in which a metal oxide layer is formed instead of the hole transport layer, It became as shown in Table 3.
In this example, it was possible to reduce the leakage current to about 10% compared to the organic EL element (4) of Example 2 and to the same level as that of the organic EL element (1). In addition, the current efficiency is equivalent to that of the organic EL element (3) of Example 1 and the organic EL element (4) of Example 2, but the element lifetime is about 20% that of the organic EL element (3). We succeeded in improving the device (1) by about 60%. From the above, according to this example, an excellent organic EL device having both advantages of PEDOT-PSS and metal oxide can be produced.
Example 4
As shown in FIG. 4, the organic EL panel produced in this example is composed of a
In this example, the leakage current can be reduced to the same level as the organic EL element (5) and the organic EL element (1) of Example 3. Although the current efficiency is equivalent to that of the organic EL elements (4) to (6), the element lifetime is about 10% higher than that of the organic EL element (5) and about 70% higher than that of the organic EL element (1). Succeeded in doing. From the above, according to this example, an excellent organic EL device having both advantages of PEDOT-PSS and metal oxide can be produced.
(Example 5)
Example 5 relates to the second method for producing an organic EL panel of the present invention, and is another example of the method for producing the organic EL panel of Examples 1 to 4. In Examples 1-4, as a process of forming the
First, MoO 3 is formed on a dummy substrate (preparation substrate) under the same conditions as the vapor deposition conditions for the MoO 3 layer of Example 1. The deposited MoO 3 layer is dissolved in PEDOT-PSS or water, and this solution is collected in a bottle. At this time, the concentration of MoO 3 in the solution is approximately 0.1 g / ml. When the solution is thinned by a spin coating method, oxygen atoms are deficient or excessively contained in the metal oxide layer. As a result, a

The advantage of these two processes is that the device can be fabricated by an all wet process. When forming a metal oxide film, a vacuum deposition method or a sputtering method is usually used, so that it cannot be formed by a wet process. However, by using this manufacturing method, it is possible to fabricate an element by an all wet process.
This method using a dummy substrate can naturally be used in the first and second embodiments. In this case, however, it cannot be produced by an all wet process. First, the MoO 3 layer 6 is formed by vacuum vapor deposition, and a
In this case as well, as in Examples 3 and 4, although the manufactured organic EL elements are different in process, the IV characteristics and element lifetimes show the same characteristics as the organic EL elements shown in Examples 1 and 2, respectively.
