Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a display device, a manufacturing method thereof, and an electronic apparatus.
In recent years, a display device (multi-view display) that can see different images from a plurality of viewpoints has attracted attention. For example, a stereoscopic image display device that uses binocular parallax, or information that is different between a driver seat and a passenger seat is viewed. It is expected to be applied to car navigation systems.
By the way, as described in
However, the parallax barrier formed by the above method is formed as a convex portion on the transparent substrate, and a step is generated between the transparent substrate and the transparent substrate. For this reason, if the spacer is formed to cover the parallax barrier and the exposed portion of the transparent substrate, the spacer material cannot be sufficiently disposed in the corner of the step, and the adhesion between the spacer and the transparent substrate is impaired. End up. For this reason, the spacer and the transparent substrate may be peeled off. When such a peeled portion is generated, moisture or the like enters through this portion, and the electro-optical material or the like deteriorates.
In addition, irregularities corresponding to the above-described steps may be formed on the spacers. In order to flatten the unevenness, a new process is required, and productivity is lowered. Further, if the color filter and the counter electrode are formed on the spacer while leaving the unevenness, the unevenness is also generated in these. When light passes through such irregularities or a portion where the above-described spacer and the transparent substrate are peeled off, display failure occurs due to light scattering.
Further, when the parallax barrier is patterned and formed by a photolithography method or the like, there is a problem that the process becomes complicated and the manufacturing cost increases.
The present invention has been made in view of the above-described problems of the prior art, and has a display device that prevents display defects caused by a step between the transparent substrate and the parallax barrier, and a manufacturing that can efficiently manufacture the display device. It aims to provide a method.
A display device according to the present invention includes a first substrate having a first electrode, a second substrate disposed opposite to the first substrate, and an electro-optic material layer sandwiched between the substrates. A device,
The second substrate includes a transparent substrate, a parallax barrier layer formed on the inner surface side of the transparent substrate, a translucent spacer layer formed on the inner surface side of the parallax barrier layer, and an inner surface side of the spacer layer A second electrode formed on the outer surface of the parallax barrier layer, and an ultraviolet barrier layer provided on the outer surface of the parallax barrier layer,
The parallax barrier layer is made of an ultraviolet-sensitive photochromic material and has a light shielding part and a light transmitting part at predetermined positions.
In this way, when the photochromic material is irradiated with ultraviolet rays, the material itself absorbs visible light in a specific wavelength band, so that the parallax barrier layer is selectively irradiated with, for example, ultraviolet rays. Thus, a parallax barrier layer having a light-shielding portion that is irradiated with ultraviolet rays and a light-transmitting portion that remains transparent without being irradiated with ultraviolet rays is obtained. The conventional parallax barrier is formed by forming a light-shielding material film on a transparent substrate and then removing a portion that becomes a light-transmitting portion, and has a step between the light-shielding portion and the light-transmitting portion. However, since the parallax barrier layer of the present invention can be provided with a light-transmitting part without removing the position to be the light-transmitting part, it is flat without a step. Therefore, the adhesion area between the transparent substrate and the parallax barrier layer can be sufficiently increased, and sufficient adhesion between the transparent substrate and the parallax barrier layer can be ensured. Therefore, the parallax barrier layer and the transparent substrate are prevented from peeling off. Similarly, sufficient adhesion between the parallax barrier layer and the spacer layer can be ensured, and separation of the parallax barrier layer and the spacer layer is prevented. Thus, since peeling between layers is prevented, it is prevented that light is scattered by a peeling part and a display defect is prevented. Further, it is possible to prevent moisture and the like from entering through the peeled portion and deteriorating the electro-optical material layer and the like.
Further, since the parallax barrier layer is flat without a step, the spacer layer and the second electrode formed thereon are flat without unevenness. Therefore, light passing through the spacer layer and the second electrode is not scattered by the unevenness, and display defects are prevented.
In addition, it is preferable that a color filter layer is provided between the electro-optic material layer and the parallax barrier layer.
In this way, full color display is possible, and a display device capable of display with rich expressiveness can be obtained.
In addition, the parallax barrier layer includes a plurality of functional films having a light absorbing portion, the light absorbing portions of the functional film have different visible light wavelength bands, and the light shielding portion has the light absorbing portion. It can also be set as the structure by which a part is laminated | stacked.
If it does in this way, the wavelength band of visible light can be shared by each light absorption part, and can be shielded, and the freedom degree of material selection about a photochromic material can be raised.
In addition, an electronic apparatus according to the present invention includes the above display device.
In this way, since the display device in which display failure is prevented and deterioration of the electro-optical material layer or the like is provided, high-quality display can be performed and a long-life electronic device can be obtained.
The display device manufacturing method of the present invention includes a first substrate having a first electrode, a second substrate disposed opposite to the first substrate, and an electro-optic material layer sandwiched between the substrates. A method for manufacturing a display device comprising:
The step of forming the second substrate includes a step of forming an ultraviolet-sensitive photochromic material on a transparent substrate and forming a material film of a parallax barrier layer, and selectively irradiating the material film with ultraviolet rays to block light. Forming a parallax barrier layer by patterning the portion and the translucent portion, forming a translucent spacer layer on the parallax barrier layer or its material film, and a second electrode on the spacer layer And a step of providing an ultraviolet barrier layer on the parallax barrier layer or on the transparent substrate side of the material film.
In this case, since the parallax barrier layer is formed of a photochromic material, the light shielding portion and the light transmitting portion can be patterned by selectively irradiating the material film with ultraviolet rays. Therefore, the degree of freedom in the order in which these steps are performed can be increased. In order to form the parallax barrier layer with a general material, for example, using a photolithography method or the like, the portion of the light-shielding parallax barrier layer material film disposed on the transparent substrate is etched, By removing the light shielding portion, a light shielding portion is formed. According to the manufacturing method of the present invention, this step is omitted because the portion that becomes the translucent portion is not removed. In addition, since the portion that becomes the light transmitting portion is not removed, a spacer layer can be formed on the material film or the parallax barrier layer while maintaining the flatness of the material film or the parallax barrier layer. It can be formed flat. Similarly, the color filter layer on the spacer layer and the second electrode on the color filter layer can also be formed flat without being flattened. Therefore, the step of planarizing these layers can be omitted or reduced, and the display device can be manufactured efficiently.
Moreover, it becomes between the 1st board | substrate and the 2nd board | substrate, the process of bonding the process of forming a 1st board | substrate, the 1st board | substrate, and the precursor of the 2nd board | substrate before forming the said ultraviolet barrier layer. Forming an electro-optic material layer in the region,
It is preferable that after these steps, there is a step of selectively irradiating the material film with ultraviolet rays to pattern the light shielding portion and the light transmitting portion, and a step of forming the ultraviolet barrier layer thereafter.
If the ultraviolet barrier layer is formed immediately after patterning the light shielding portion and the light transmitting portion in this manner, the light shielding portion and the light transmitting portion are prevented from being irradiated with ultraviolet rays. Accordingly, it is possible to avoid the disadvantage that the light shielding part impairs the light shielding property due to the reversible reaction of photochromism. In addition, even if the material film is irradiated with ultraviolet rays before the light-shielding part and the light-transmitting part are patterned, the light-transmitting part is also provided with light-shielding properties. By using this, the material film can be once made translucent, and then the light shielding portion and the light transmitting portion can be patterned again. In this way, the light shielding part and the light transmitting part can be patterned with high accuracy, and the parallax barrier layer can be sufficiently functioned.

Next, an embodiment of a method for manufacturing a display device according to the present invention will be described using the method for manufacturing the

Next, as shown in FIG. 3B, an acrylic resin film is laminated on the
Separately from the
Next, as shown in FIG. 3D, the
Next, as shown in FIG. 4A, an ultraviolet laser is selectively irradiated from the
Next, as shown in FIG. 4C, an
In the
According to the manufacturing method of the present invention as described above, since the
The
