Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to an electrophotographic seamless belt used as an intermediate transfer member or a transfer carrier in an electrophotographic image forming apparatus.
Transfer transfer members, intermediate transfer members, electrophotographic photosensitive members, fixing members, etc. used in electrophotographic image forming apparatuses (sometimes referred to as electrophotographic image forming apparatuses) such as copying machines and laser beam printers, There are a rigid drum shape and a flexible seamless belt shape (seamless belt for electrophotography).
In recent years, color (full color, etc.) electrophotographic image forming apparatuses have been put into practical use, and the demand for intermediate transfer belts, transfer conveyance belts, and the like is increasing.
As an image forming method using an intermediate transfer belt, a so-called four-process intermediate transfer method, an in-line (quadruple photoconductor) intermediate transfer method, and the like are well known. In the so-called four-process intermediate transfer method, primary charging, exposure, and development are sequentially performed for each color by one electrophotographic photosensitive member, and the toner images of the respective colors are sequentially primarily transferred onto an intermediate transfer belt or the like. This is secondarily transferred collectively onto a medium such as paper as a transfer material to form a color image. On the other hand, in the inline type (quadruple photoconductor) intermediate transfer system, the image forming sections for each color arranged in series (having an electrophotographic photoconductor, a primary charging unit, an exposure unit, a developing unit, a transfer unit, etc.) The toner images of the respective colors are formed in step. After these are transferred to the intermediate transfer belt, an image is formed by batch transfer onto a medium such as paper as a transfer material.
As an image forming method using a transfer conveyance belt, the following method is also well known. In this system, each color toner image is formed in an image forming section (having an electrophotographic photosensitive member, a primary charging unit, an exposure unit, a developing unit, a transfer unit, etc.) for each color arranged in series. Then, these are sequentially transferred onto a transfer material that is sequentially conveyed to each image forming unit by a transfer conveyance belt, thereby forming a color image.
As an electrophotographic seamless belt, a seamless belt made of a resin composition containing a thermoplastic resin as a main component is becoming popular because it can be manufactured at a low cost and a general-purpose molding apparatus can be used. In particular, from the viewpoint of cost, durability, and moldability, polyester is excellent as a thermoplastic resin. For example,
However, belts using the above thermoplastic resins cannot be said to have sufficient flame retardancy, and have the problem that they cannot meet the recent industry demands for non-halo flame retardants for electrical equipment. It was. In order to solve the above problem, a general-purpose flame retardant may be added to the thermoplastic resin. General-purpose flame retardants include, for example, aluminum hydroxide, magnesium hydroxide, melamine derivatives (melamine cyanurate, melamine polyphosphate, etc.), metal salts such as organic sulfonate metal salts, expanded graphite, phosphate esters, zinc borate, Zinc stannate was used. When these general-purpose flame retardants were added, the flame retardancy was sometimes improved. However, on the other hand, performance and difficulty as a seamless belt for electrophotography from the viewpoints of durability, surface properties, transfer characteristics, etc., such as inducing the decomposition of the binder resin, generating fuzz on the surface, and extremely reducing the surface gloss. It was difficult to achieve both flammability.
The present invention has been made in view of the current state of the prior art, and the present invention provides a seamless belt for electrophotography that is imparted with flame retardancy and has good surface properties, uniform resistance, and durability. For the purpose.
That is, the present invention that has solved the above problems comprises a resin composition containing a thermoplastic binder resin, a conductive agent, and spherical silicone resin particles having a sphericity of 0.95 or more and an average particle size of 15 μm or less. A seamless belt for electrophotography characterized by the following.
According to the present invention, by adding spherical silicone resin particles having a sphericity of 0.95 or more and an average particle size of 15 μm or less, even when the electrophotographic seamless belt is ignited, the ignited portion is melted. It is possible to prevent the flame from spreading and spreading to the electrophotographic seamless belt. This flame retardant mechanism is combined with the flame retardant mechanism of the conventional silicone resin, that is, the effect of silica generated by combustion covering the plastic surface, and it is considered that the flame retardant effect could be expressed with a small amount of addition. . Further, the addition of the spherical silicone resin particles hardly generates any flaws on the belt surface, and good surface properties can be obtained. Thus, it is considered that an electrophotographic seamless belt having both performance and flame retardancy as an electrophotographic seamless belt could be achieved without inducing deterioration of the thermoplastic binder resin.
Hereinafter, preferred embodiments to which the present invention is applied will be described in detail.
In the present invention, the thermoplastic binder resin has thermoplasticity. The thermoplastic binder resin in the present invention can be selected from known thermoplastic resins depending on the purpose. Examples of the thermoplastic resin that can be used as the thermoplastic binder resin in the present invention include polyester resin, polyamide resin, polycarbonate resin, acrylic copolymer, polyolefin resin, acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene copolymer, polyphenylene ether, and the like. be able to. From the viewpoints of cost, durability, and moldability, a polyester resin is usually preferable, among which polyalkylene naphthalate is more preferable, and among them, polyethylene naphthalate is more preferable. Of course, it is not limited to these, The thermoplastic resin in the present invention may be a mixture of two or more kinds of thermoplastic resins or an alloy.
The spherical silicone resin particles in the present invention preferably have a sphericity of 0.95 or more and an average particle size of 15 μm or less. A sphericity of 0.95 or more is preferred because flame retardancy is improved. Further, it is preferable that the particle size is 15 μm or less because it is possible to prevent the formation of spots on the surface of the electrophotographic seamless belt.
The production method of the spherical silicone resin particles in the present invention is not particularly limited, but usually, a hydrolyzable silane is hydrolyzed, and the decomposition product is subjected to a condensation reaction to generate a nucleus, and further a condensation reaction is promoted. Those obtained by growing nuclei are preferred. Preferable spherical silicone resin particles include, for example, “Tospearl” (trade name, manufactured by Toshiba Silicone Co., Ltd.).
In order to obtain sufficient flame retardancy, the addition amount of the spherical silicone resin particles is usually preferably 1% by mass or more, and more preferably 2% by mass or more based on the resin composition. In order to obtain sufficient surface smoothness and bending resistance, the amount of spherical silicone resin particles added is usually preferably 10% by mass or less, more preferably 8% by mass or less, based on the resin composition. It is more preferable.
The sphericity and particle size of the spherical silicone resin particles in the present invention may be measured by taking an electron micrograph of the particles with a scanning electron microscope. Specifically, 50 randomly selected spherical silicone resin particles that do not overlap each other, measure the minor axis and major axis, calculate the minor axis ÷ major axis, and obtain an arithmetic average of them. Is the sphericity. The particle diameter is calculated by calculating (minor axis + major axis) / 2, and the value obtained by arithmetic averaging is defined as the particle diameter.
In the present invention, it is preferable to add a conductive agent in order to make the electrophotographic seamless belt semiconductive. As the conductive agent in the present invention, polyether ester amide is preferable from the viewpoint of obtaining uniform resistance and not deteriorating brittleness. Specifically, for example, a conductive agent mainly composed of a copolymer composed of a polyamide block unit such as nylon 6, nylon 66, nylon 11,
As the addition amount of the conductive agent, an optimum addition amount can be selected depending on the resistance value required for the configuration of the electrophotographic image forming apparatus to be used. When polyether ester amide is used as the conductive agent, the addition amount is usually preferably 5% by mass or more and 30% by mass or less with respect to the resin composition constituting the electrophotographic seamless belt of the present invention. . When the addition amount of the polyether ester amide is 5% by mass or more, desired semiconductivity can be easily obtained. Moreover, when it is 30 mass% or less, there is no possibility of impairing the characteristics of the thermoplastic binder resin.
Further, when it is desired to obtain a lower resistance electrophotographic seamless belt, other conductive agents can be added. For example, a conductive agent such as alkali metal or alkaline earth metal perchlorate, tetrafluoroborate, phosphate, perfluoroalkylsulfonate, sulfate, thiocyanate or halide may be added. it can. In this case, the addition amount of the conductive agent is preferably suppressed to 5% by mass or less with respect to the resin composition from the viewpoint of preventing bleeding out. Further, a conductive filler such as carbon black, conductive titanium oxide, conductive tin oxide, or conductive mica can be added.
Of course, these conductive agents are not limited to these types, and a plurality of them can be used.

Specifically, for example, antioxidants (for example, hindered phenol-based, phosphorus-based, sulfur-based, etc.), ultraviolet absorbers, organic pigments, inorganic pigments, pH adjusters, crosslinking agents, compatibilizers, release agents (Eg, silicone, fluorine, etc.), crosslinking agent, coupling agent, lubricant, insulating filler (eg, zinc oxide, barium sulfate, calcium sulfate, barium titanate, potassium titanate, strontium titanate, titanium oxide, oxidation) Magnesium, magnesium hydroxide, aluminum hydroxide, talc, mica, clay, kaolin, hydrotalcite, silica, alumina, ferrite, calcium carbonate, barium carbonate, nickel carbonate, glass powder, quartz powder, carbon fiber, glass fiber, alumina Fiber, potassium titanate fiber, fine particles of thermosetting resin, etc.) Can. Two or more of these can be combined.
The resin composition in the present invention can be produced by uniformly mixing a thermoplastic binder resin, a conductive agent, spherical silicone resin particles, and other additives.
The transfer of the composite color toner image transferred onto the intermediate transfer belt 5 to the transfer material P, which is the second image carrier, is performed as follows. First, the secondary transfer roller 7 is brought into contact with the intermediate transfer belt 5 and from the paper feed roller 11 through the
After the image transfer to the transfer material P is completed, a cleaning charging member 9 of a cleaning device is brought into contact with the intermediate transfer belt 5, and a bias having a polarity opposite to that of the

2. Description of the Related Art A full-color electrophotographic image forming apparatus according to the prior art is an image forming apparatus that attaches or adsorbs a transfer material P, which is a second image carrier, onto a transfer drum and transfers an image from the first image carrier to the transfer drum. Had. In such a full-color electrophotographic image forming apparatus, when the transfer material P is an envelope, a postcard, a label paper, a thin paper (40 g / m 2 paper), a thick paper (200 g / m 2 paper), for example, a gripper It required processing and control such as gripping, adsorbing, and giving curvature. In contrast, the full-color electrophotographic image forming apparatus using the above-described intermediate transfer belt transfers an image from the intermediate transfer belt to the transfer material P, which is the second image carrier, without requiring such processing and control. can do. For this reason, there is an advantage that a wide variety of transfer materials P as the second image carrier can be selected regardless of the width, width, length, or thickness.
Because of these advantages, color copiers, color printers, and the like using an intermediate transfer belt are already operating in the market.
Next, FIG. 2 shows a schematic diagram of an example of an electrophotographic image forming apparatus using a transfer conveyance belt as a transfer conveyance member. The electrophotographic image forming apparatus shown in FIG. 2 is an example of a full-color electrophotographic image forming apparatus using a color separation image superposition transfer method. In this type of full-color electrophotographic image forming apparatus, toner images of different colors are formed on a plurality of photoconductors, and are aligned with a single transfer material conveyed in contact with each photoconductor in sequence, A toner image on each photoconductor is transferred to obtain a full color image.
In the full-color electrophotographic image forming apparatus shown in FIG. 2, four image forming units I, II, III, and IV are arranged side by side as an electrophotographic process means in the upper part of the apparatus

In each of the image forming units I to IV, the
On the other hand, the transfer material P conveyed from the cassette 306 to the
The transfer material P that has received the transfer of each color toner image as described above is discharged by the
Because of these advantages, color copiers, color printers, and the like using electrophotographic belts are already operating in the market.

(3) Volume resistivity A circular test piece having a diameter of 56 mm was cut out from the electrophotographic seamless belt (diameter φ140 mm) produced in this example with a punching machine or a sharp blade. An electrode made of a Pt—Pd vapor deposition film was provided on the entire surface of one side of the test piece. (4) Durability Image Characteristics A full-color electrophotographic image obtained by attaching the electrophotographic seamless belt (diameter: 140 mm) produced in this example to an toner cartridge (EP-87 (trade name), manufactured by Canon Inc.) as an intermediate transfer belt. It was mounted on a forming apparatus (LBP-2410 (trade name), manufactured by Canon Inc.). At this time, the spring pressure of the tension roller in total was 20 N, the slide amount was 2.5 mm, and the diameters of the tension roller and the driving roller were 28 mm. Further, the electrophotographic seamless belt (diameter: 150 mm) produced in this example was attached to a full-color electrophotographic image forming apparatus (LBP-5000 (trade name), manufactured by Canon Inc.) as a transfer conveyance belt. Each of these devices was subjected to a continuous durability test of 20,000 sheets of A4 size in an environment of 40 ° C. and 90% RH, and then two colors of cyan and magenta and cyan and yellow were applied to 80 g / m 2 paper. These test samples were pretreated in the same manner as the test sample for volume resistivity measurement, and the volume resistivity was measured.
The digit difference between the maximum and minimum volume resistivity values measured by the above method was determined as the difference between the value obtained by taking the common logarithm of the maximum value of the volume resistivity value and the value obtained by taking the common logarithm of the minimum value. . The smaller this digit difference, the better the in-plane resistance uniformity and the higher the quality of the output image.

As shown in Table 1, in Examples 1 to 4, the blow moldability was good, the produced blow bottles had good appearance, and the flame retardancy was also produced from a seamless belt for electrophotography. VTM-2 could be achieved in the specimen. In the evaluation of the durability image characteristics, no color shift was observed and the running property was good. In Example 5, although the blow moldability, surface smoothness, and in-plane resistance uniformity were slightly inferior, the evaluation of the durable image characteristics was good.
On the other hand, in Comparative Example 1, the blow moldability and the in-plane resistance uniformity were good, but the surface of the electrophotographic seamless belt was uneven. This image does not affect the image printed in the evaluation of surface smoothness in the visual range, and a good image was also obtained in the evaluation of durable image characteristics, but VTM-2 is achieved for flame retardancy. I could not.
In addition, as a reference example, Table 2 shows the results of flame retardancy tests for electrophotographic seamless belts made from various resin compositions that contain general-purpose flame retardants but do not contain spherical silicone resin particles. From the results in Table 2, it was found that the material has flame retardancy required as a seamless belt for electrophotography.
