Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a liquid ejecting head such as an ink jet recording head and a liquid ejecting apparatus, and more particularly to a liquid ejecting head suitable for high-frequency driving and a liquid ejecting apparatus including the same.
For example, a liquid ejecting head typified by an ink jet recording head (hereinafter simply referred to as a recording head) includes a plurality of liquid flow paths corresponding to the nozzle openings from the reservoir to the nozzle openings through the pressure chambers. There is a configuration in which droplets are ejected from a nozzle opening using a pressure fluctuation generated in a liquid in a pressure chamber by driving a generating unit.
The liquid ejecting head is configured by stacking a plurality of components (plate members). For example, the recording head disclosed in Patent Document 1 includes an actuator unit as pressure generating means and a flow path unit that forms a liquid flow path, and is integrated in a state where the actuator unit and the flow path unit are overlapped. It is structured.
The actuator unit includes a pressure chamber plate (spacer) in which a plurality of pressure chambers are formed, a communication port plate (second lid) in which a nozzle communication port and a supply-side communication port are formed, and a diaphragm mounted with a piezoelectric vibrator (First cover plate) is laminated and integrated by firing or the like. The flow path unit includes a supply port plate (ink supply port forming substrate) in which an ink supply port is formed, a reservoir plate (reservoir forming substrate) in which a reservoir (common liquid chamber) is formed, and a plurality of nozzle openings. Thus, the plate members are formed by laminating and integrating the plate members each including the nozzle plate in which the nozzle rows are formed.
When ink droplets are ejected by the recording head configured as described above, when the pressure chamber is preliminarily expanded prior to ejection of the ink droplet, ink is supplied from the reservoir side to the pressure chamber through the ink supply port, and preliminary expansion is performed. Thereafter, when the pressure chamber is rapidly contracted, an ink droplet is ejected from the nozzle opening and a part of the ink in the pressure chamber moves to the reservoir side through the ink supply port.
Here, if the ink supply port is a cylindrical hole, the flow path resistance R and inertance M of the ink supply port are represented by the following equations (A) and (B), respectively.
Here, λ is the viscosity of the ink, L is the flow path length of the ink supply port, r is the radius of the ink supply port, and ρ is the density of the ink. The flow path resistance R is a resistance to the volume velocity of the ink, and the resistance to the ink flow increases as the value of R increases. On the other hand, the inertance M is a resistance against the volume acceleration of the ink, and as the inertance M is larger, the resistance against a relatively steep change in the flow velocity of the ink is larger. In other words, regarding the fluidity (easy to flow) of the ink at the ink supply port, the influence of the flow path resistance R appears more strongly than the inertance M at the flow velocity of the ink due to a relatively gentle pressure change. The influence of inertance M appears more strongly than the flow path resistance R at the ink flow velocity due to the change.
If the flow path resistance R at the ink supply port is too large, for example, when ink droplets are continuously ejected at a frequency of several tens of kHz, the supply of ink from the reservoir side to the pressure chamber side may not be in time. . On the other hand, if the diameter of the ink supply port is simply increased in order to reduce the flow path resistance R, the inertance M is also reduced accordingly, so that the pressure chamber is rapidly contracted for ejection. In addition, the ink easily flows back from the pressure chamber to the reservoir side. For this reason, there is a possibility that ink droplets are not normally ejected from the nozzle openings.
The present invention has been made in view of such circumstances, and an object thereof is to provide a liquid ejecting head capable of normally ejecting liquid droplets even when driven at a higher frequency, and the same. The object is to provide a liquid ejecting apparatus.

φrs<φrn(2/3) …(1)
The liquid jet head of the present invention has been proposed in order to achieve the above-described object, and is composed of an actuator unit and a flow path unit, and includes a series of liquid flow paths from a reservoir to a nozzle opening through a pressure chamber. A liquid ejecting head formed for each nozzle opening,
The flow path unit is configured to supply a nozzle plate having a nozzle opening, a reservoir plate having a first communication port serving as a part of the reservoir and the nozzle communication port, and a liquid in the reservoir to the pressure chamber side. It is produced by integrating the supply port plate with the supply port and the second communication port that is a part of the nozzle communication port in a stacked state,
The actuator unit has a communication port plate in which a supply side communication port that connects the supply port and the pressure chamber and a third communication port that is a part of the nozzle communication port are opened and stacked on the supply port plate. ,
An inner diameter φrs of the supply side communication port and an inner diameter φrn of the third communication port in the communication port plate are set to satisfy the following expression (1).

According to another aspect of the invention, a liquid ejecting apparatus includes the liquid ejecting head having the above-described configuration.
According to each of the above-described inventions, the inertance at the liquid supply port including the supply-side communication port and the supply port is optimized by appropriately designing the dimensions of the supply-side communication port based on the formulas (1) to (3). The flow path resistance can be reduced while maintaining the value. Accordingly, even in high frequency driving in which droplets are continuously discharged at a higher frequency, it is possible to follow the supply of liquid from the reservoir side to the pressure chamber without deteriorating the droplet discharge characteristics. As a result, it is possible to cope with high frequency driving.

In the embodiments described below, various limitations are made as preferred specific examples of the present invention. However, the scope of the present invention is not limited to the following description unless otherwise specified. However, the present invention is not limited to these embodiments. In the following description, an ink jet recording head (hereinafter simply referred to as a recording head) mounted on an ink jet recording apparatus (a type of liquid ejecting apparatus; hereinafter simply referred to as a printer) is used as the liquid ejecting head in the present invention. As an example.

As shown in FIG. 1, the head unit 1 includes a
As shown in FIG. 2, the
The
The
The
The
The
The
Each plate member has an adhesive interposed between the
In the
By the way, with this type of recording head, it has become possible to eject ink droplets continuously at a higher frequency due to recent improvements in driving waveforms. However, when such high frequency driving is performed, if the flow path resistance Rx at the ink supply port (the combined resistance of the flow path resistance Rs of the
For this reason, in the
Here, based on the equations (A) and (B) of the channel resistance R and inertance M relating to the cylindrical channel described above, the channel resistance R is inversely proportional to the fourth power of the channel radius r, and the inertance M is It is inversely proportional to the square of the channel radius r. That is, the flow path diameter has a greater influence on the flow path resistance R than on the inertance M. On the other hand, the channel resistance R and the inertance M are both proportional to the channel length L, and the influence of the channel length L on the channel resistance R and the inertance M is about the same. Therefore, if the channel diameter and the channel length are appropriately designed, the channel resistance can be reduced while maintaining the inertance value. Basically, on the premise that the flow path diameter of the entire ink supply port is larger and the flow path length of the entire ink supply port is longer, the supply
First, the inner diameter φrs of the supply
φrs <φrn (2/3) (1)
That is, the inner diameter φrs of the supply
Further, the inner diameter φrs of the supply
tr / φrs> 2 (2)
That is, the ratio of the thickness tr to the inner diameter φrs is larger than 2. This means that the thickness of the
Further, the inner diameter φrs of the supply
φrs> φs (3)
That is, the inner diameter φrs of the supply
Mnz=1.4e+8(kg/m4) …(4)
Rnz=1.5e+13(Pa・s/m3)…(5)
Mrs=1.2e+8(kg/m4) …(6)
Rrs=3.7e+12(Pa・s/m3)…(7)
Ms =5.5e+7(kg/m4) …(8)
Rs =3.4e+12(Pa・s/m3)…(9)
Thus, by appropriately designing the size of the supply
Mnz = 1.4e + 8 (kg / m 4 ) (4)
Rnz = 1.5e + 13 (Pa · s / m 3 ) (5)
Mrs = 1.2e + 8 (kg / m 4 ) (6)
Rrs = 3.7e + 12 (Pa · s / m 3 ) (7)
Ms = 5.5e + 7 (kg / m 4 ) (8)
