Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to an image forming apparatus, and more particularly to an image forming apparatus including a charging unit that can charge the surface of an image carrier and a charge eliminating unit that can remove residual charges on the surface of the image carrier.
As an image forming apparatus such as a printer or a multifunction machine, a charging roller capable of charging the surface of the photosensitive drum by applying a voltage, an exposure device capable of exposing the surface of the photosensitive drum, and an electrostatic formed on the surface of the photosensitive drum. There are developers that develop a latent image as a toner image, and those that include an erase lamp that can irradiate the surface of the photosensitive drum with light to remove the charge remaining on the surface of the photosensitive drum.
In an image forming apparatus with the exposure device turned off, the surface potential of the photosensitive drum is applied to the charging roller when the erase lamp is turned off and the photosensitive drum rotates several times with a predetermined voltage applied to the charging roller. Voltage value. On the other hand, since the optical carrier is generated when the erase lamp is turned on, light attenuation occurs on the surface of the photosensitive drum. As a result, the surface potential of the photosensitive drum is lower than the voltage value applied to the charging roller.
Further, the photosensitive drum and the charging roller have a characteristic that the impedance value changes according to the temperature and humidity inside the main body of the image forming apparatus. For example, when the image forming apparatus is left in a low temperature environment of 10 degrees or less for a long time and the temperature inside the main body of the image forming apparatus is lowered, the impedance values of the photosensitive drum and the charging roller are accordingly compared with those at room temperature. And get higher. When the image forming apparatus prints an image in this state, the amount of current flowing from the photosensitive drum to the charging roller becomes smaller than that at room temperature, and the surface potential of the photosensitive drum changes.
However, in the method of Patent Document 1, it is necessary to provide a temperature sensor for detecting the temperature and a current detection circuit for detecting the amount of current flowing into the charging roller, which increases costs. Furthermore, when the temperature or humidity in the environment where the image forming apparatus is installed changes, the characteristics of the device equipped with the current detection circuit change accordingly, and the detected current amount and the current amount actually flowing into the charging roller are changed. Different phenomena may occur. For example, in a low temperature environment of 10 degrees or less, the detected current amount changes by about 10% as compared with a room temperature environment. Therefore, if a phenomenon occurs in which the detected current amount is different from the actual current amount, the surface potential of the photosensitive drum cannot always be corrected to a desired potential.
In addition, when an image forming operation is performed in an image forming apparatus in which the surface potential of the photosensitive drum changes, the density change in which the black portion of the formed image becomes darker or thinner, or the entire fogged image Will occur.
Accordingly, an object of the present invention is to provide an image forming apparatus that can be easily adjusted so that the surface potential of the photosensitive drum becomes a desired potential regardless of environmental conditions including temperature and humidity. .
In order to solve the above-mentioned problems, the invention 1 is an image forming apparatus comprising a charging unit capable of charging the surface of the image carrier and a neutralizing unit capable of removing residual charges on the surface of the image carrier. The image forming apparatus further includes a developing unit, a density detecting unit, and a voltage adjusting unit. The developing unit supplies the developer onto the image carrier with the neutralizing unit turned on to develop the first patch image, and supplies the developer onto the image carrier with the neutralizing unit off. Then, the second patch image is developed. The density detection means detects the density of the first and second patch images developed by the development means. The voltage adjusting unit adjusts the voltage applied to the charging unit when the density difference between the first patch image and the second patch image is outside a predetermined range.
When the charge eliminating unit is on, photocarriers are generated on the surface of the image carrier and light attenuation occurs, so that the surface potential of the image carrier is lower than the voltage applied to the charging unit. On the other hand, when the charge eliminating unit is off, the surface of the image carrier has substantially the same potential as the voltage value applied to the charging unit. Further, the surface potential of the image carrier can be determined from the density of the patch image. For example, the high density of the patch image indicates that a large amount of developer has moved from the developing means to the surface of the image carrier, which is applied to the surface potential of the exposed image carrier and the developing means. This corresponds to a large potential difference from the developing bias. From this, for example, it is possible to determine that the surface potential of the exposed image carrier is sufficiently lower than the developing bias. Therefore, this image forming apparatus adjusts the voltage applied to the charging unit when the neutralization unit is on so that the density difference between the first patch image and the second patch image is as small as possible. Thereby, for example, when the developing bias is fixed at a predetermined voltage lower than the desired surface potential of the image carrier, the exposure amount by the exposure means is always constant, and therefore the image carrier exposed with the static elimination means turned on. The surface is at the same potential as the surface of the image carrier exposed with the neutralizing means off. Thus, this image forming apparatus can easily adjust the surface potential of the image carrier to a desired potential. Therefore, a phenomenon such as fogging can be prevented.
Invention 2 further includes an exposure means for exposing the surface of the image carrier in Invention 1, wherein a developing bias is applied to the developing means, and the voltage adjusting means has the density difference within the predetermined range. The potential difference between the surface potential of the image carrier exposed by the exposure unit and the developing bias when the neutralizing unit is on, and the potential difference when the neutralizing unit is off. An image forming apparatus for adjusting a voltage applied to the charging unit is provided.
Consider the case where the developing bias is fixed at 200V and the surface potential of the image carrier is adjusted to 300V. In this image forming apparatus, for example, when the density difference between the first and second patch images is larger than a predetermined range, the density of the first patch image is higher than the density of the second patch image. It is determined that the potential difference between the surface potential of the exposed image carrier and the developing bias is larger than the potential difference when the neutralizing unit is off. If the surface potential is lowered by about 150 V by exposing the surface of the image carrier, it can be determined that the surface potential of the image carrier when the neutralization unit is on is lower than the surface potential when the neutralization unit is off. Therefore, the voltage applied to the charging unit when the neutralizing unit is turned on is increased. In this way, the surface potential of the image carrier when the neutralization unit is on can be matched with the surface potential of the image carrier when the neutralization unit is off.
A third aspect of the present invention provides the image forming apparatus according to the first or second aspect, wherein the charging unit is a charger capable of contacting the surface of the image carrier.
A fourth aspect of the present invention provides the image forming apparatus according to any one of the first to third aspects, wherein the length of the first or second patch image in the sub-scanning direction is shorter than one round of the image carrier.
When the first or second patch image is developed over one rotation of the image carrier, the image density after one rotation of the image carrier changes due to a phenomenon called ghost. This is particularly noticeable in the second patch in which the static elimination means is off. Therefore, the ghost phenomenon can be prevented by setting the length of the first or second patch in the sub-scanning direction to be shorter than one length of the image carrier.
According to the image forming apparatus of the present invention, it is possible to easily adjust the surface potential of the photosensitive drum to a desired potential regardless of the environmental conditions including temperature and humidity. Therefore, it is possible to prevent the density change of the formed image and the phenomenon of being a fogged image as a whole.

(2) Configuration of Control Unit The
The erase
The surface
The charging

(3) Operation Next, the operation of the image forming apparatus 1 will be described with reference to FIGS. 5 and 6.
Step S1-2: Assume that the image forming apparatus 1 is in a so-called standby state, and the
Step S3-4: The developing device
Steps S5 to 7: When the image forming apparatus 1 enters the state of performing the image forming process from the standby state, the erase
Step S8: The surface
Steps S9 to 10: When the density Dn of the first patch image is less than “Do−α” (S9), the surface
Step S11: When the density Dn of the first patch image is “Do + α” or more in Step S9, the surface
(4) Effect In this image forming apparatus 1, the voltage Vn applied to the charging
Using the image forming apparatus 1 according to the above embodiment, an experiment was performed in an environment of 10 ° C./15%. The

(B) A developing bias of 200 V was applied to the developing
(C) Next, the erase

(A) Although the case where a contact-type charging roller is used as the charger has been described in the above embodiment, a non-contact charger may be used.
(B) In the above embodiment, as shown in FIG. 2, the case where the density sensor is provided on the transfer belt has been described, but it may be provided on the photosensitive drum.
