Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to an electrophoretic display medium, and more particularly, to an electrophoretic display medium that displays an image using an electrophoretic phenomenon.
2. Description of the Related Art Conventionally, an electrophoretic display device that can display an image on a display panel (electrophoretic display medium) using an electrophoretic phenomenon is known. The display panel includes a transparent display substrate, a back substrate disposed opposite to the display substrate, a pair of electrodes formed on each surface of the display substrate and the back substrate, and the display substrate and the back substrate. Are mainly composed of a display liquid sealed through a spacer and two kinds of charged particles dispersed in the display liquid. The charged particles are generally composed of black charged particles and white charged particles that are charged to a polarity different from that of the black charged particles. In such a configuration, when a voltage is applied between the pair of electrodes and an electric field is generated in the display liquid, for example, black charged particles move to the display substrate side, and white charged particles move to the back substrate side. At this time, black is displayed on the display substrate. In addition, when a reverse electric field is generated, the white charged particles move to the display substrate side, and the black charged particles move to the back substrate side. At this time, white is displayed on the display substrate. In this way, by controlling the colors displayed on each display medium, the image displayed on the display unit can be freely controlled.
However, in the electrophoretic display device described in
SUMMARY An advantage of some aspects of the invention is that it provides an electrophoretic display medium capable of preventing display unevenness by preventing staying of charged particles.
To achieve the above object, an electrophoretic display medium according to a first aspect of the present invention includes a first substrate and a second substrate which are a pair of substrates facing each other, and a spacer interposed between the pair of substrates. Provided between the pair of substrates, and the display liquid that is dispersed in the display liquid and that is dispersed in the display liquid and moves in the display liquid by the action of an electric field, and divides the pair of substrates into a plurality of regions. And a flow path through which the display liquid passes is provided between the partition and the first substrate and between the partition and the second substrate.
The electrophoretic display medium according to a second aspect of the present invention is the electrophoretic display medium according to the second aspect, in addition to the configuration according to the first aspect, wherein the interval in the direction perpendicular to the direction in which the display liquid passes through the flow path is Smaller than the diameter.
According to a third aspect of the present invention, in addition to the configuration of the first or second aspect of the invention, the flow path may be provided between the partition wall and the first substrate and between the partition wall and the first substrate. It is a gap provided between the two substrates.
According to a fourth aspect of the present invention, in addition to the structure of the first aspect, the partition is fixed to the spacer.

In addition to the configuration of the invention according to any one of
Further, in the electrophoretic display medium of the invention according to claim 6, in addition to the configuration of the invention of claim 5, the pair of substrates is constituted by a transparent display substrate and a rear substrate, and the fixing portion is It is fixed to the back substrate.
In the electrophoretic display medium according to the first aspect, the charged particles in the display liquid move toward one of the first substrate and the second substrate by the action of an electric field. And since the flow path is provided between the partition and the first substrate and between the partition and the second substrate, the display liquid can pass through the flow path. Accordingly, the display liquid flows between the partition wall and the first substrate and between the partition wall and the second substrate, so that charged particles do not stay. Therefore, display unevenness can be prevented.
In addition, in the electrophoretic display medium of the invention according to
In addition, in the electrophoretic display medium of the invention according to
In addition, in the electrophoretic display medium of the invention according to claim 4, in addition to the effect of the invention according to any one of

Hereinafter, a
Note that the
First, the configuration of the
First, the structure of the
In addition, as shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, the user can visually recognize the peripheral portion of the
Next, the structure of the
A channel CH1 is connected to the
Next, the structure of the
Next, the
Next, the black charged
Accordingly, in the
Next, the
An
Next, the flow of the
Here, the
The gap widths of the
Further, in the
Next, a contrast evaluation test for evaluating the display characteristics of the
In these three types of display panels, first, the contrast ratio after the initial display was measured. Thereafter, switching between black and white display was repeated 100 times, and the contrast ratio of the display panel after the 100 times display was measured. The contrast ratio refers to the luminance ratio of “white (maximum luminance)” and “black (minimum luminance)” in the screen. In general, it is said that when the contrast ratio is high, the screen is sharp and the image quality is clear and clear. And the change of the contrast ratio after the first display and after 100 times display was compared. Here, the “contrast relative value” is calculated when the contrast ratio of the display panel fixed on both sides is “8”. Note that the contrast relative value in the initial display was adjusted to be the same for the initial display characteristics of each display panel by setting the same for all the panels.
Next, the result of the contrast evaluation test will be described. As shown in FIG. 6, with double-sided fixing, the relative contrast value of the initial display was 8, whereas the relative contrast value after 100 displays was 3. In the case of single-sided fixation, the contrast relative value of the initial display was 8, whereas the contrast relative value after 100 times of display was 6. And in the display panel of the present invention that was not fixed to either, the contrast relative value of the initial display was 8, whereas the contrast relative value after 100 times display was also 8.
Next, the results of the contrast evaluation test will be considered. As shown in FIG. 6, in the case of fixed on both sides, the contrast relative value after 100 times of display was greatly reduced as compared with after the initial display. Therefore, when the periphery of the partition after 100 times of display was observed with a microscope, many black charged
In the display panel of the present invention which was not fixed to either of the substrates, the contrast relative value could be maintained as it was from the initial display even after 100 times of display. This is presumably because the display liquid was able to pass through the gap between both ends of the partition wall and both substrates because both ends of the partition wall were not fixed to either the display substrate or the back substrate. Then, when the periphery of both ends of the partition after displaying 100 times was observed with a microscope, the black charged
As described above, in the
Needless to say, the electrophoretic display medium of the present invention is not limited to the above embodiment, and various modifications are possible. In the above embodiment, the
Therefore, a
As shown in FIGS. 7 and 8, the
As shown in FIG. 9, the
Even in the
In the
In addition to the above modifications, the following modifications are possible. For example, in the above embodiment, the
Furthermore, a convex fixing portion may be provided on the upper surface of the back substrate 20 (or the lower surface of the display substrate 10), and the
