Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to an improvement of an X-ray CT apparatus.
A method for obtaining the same effect by moving the X-ray generation position by scanning an electron beam irradiated to a large target (see Patent Documents 1 to 3) has been announced. The problem remains in terms of size.
An X-ray CT apparatus using a large number of high-speed switching type micro X-ray sources and a semiconductor detector array, which can continuously capture CT images without rotating a detector, an X-ray source, or a subject I will provide a. By moving the object in one dimension, data can be acquired continuously at high speed and a three-dimensional CT image can be obtained.
1. As the X-ray source, a micro X-ray source using a field emission micro electron source capable of high-speed switching is used.
2. Since the X-ray source has a small and simple structure, it is easy to arrange many, for example, one at a time and 360 around the circumference of the object. can do.
3. Since the X-ray source has a large number of generating element portions, that is, only a small electron source and a target, and an expensive high-voltage power supply can be used by one unit, an inexpensive and highly reliable system can be realized.
4). The so-called multi-slice type device, which consists of multiple arrays (for example, staggered arrangement) in which the detector array is devised to eliminate the influence of gaps between semiconductor detectors and enable faster scanning However, it is also possible to realize a single line sensor array on the circumference.
5). If X-ray detection is performed using a photon counting type semiconductor detector array that has high spatial resolution and high quantification, the energy discrimination of the detector array can be utilized. Effective atomic number and density can be separated and mapped by data calculation of two or more energy bands, realizing more accurate inspection.
As a result, the X-ray CT apparatus can be reduced in size, reduced in noise, and speeded up, speeding up the examination, and reducing the burden on the patient in medical applications.
The X-ray CT image is a two-dimensional mapping of the attenuation coefficient of X-rays, and the attenuation coefficient has a relation between the product of effective atomic number (electron density) and density.
In principle, it is possible to separate the effective atomic number and density by calculating data of two or more energy bands with the energy discrimination function, and it is possible to perform effective atomic number mapping, and material identification and identification This is effective.
For this purpose, it is important to use a photon counting type X-ray detector.
1. An X-ray source and a detector array are arranged on the circumference, and the subject moves one-dimensionally along its central axis.
2. The X-ray source switching and the detector acquire data in synchronization, and obtain a large number of slice data without moving any of the source, detector, and subject.
3. If necessary, calculation is performed in a plurality of energy bands to obtain a mapping image in which effective atomic number and density are separated. In addition, this is basically a more effective method in multi-slice imaging, and in that case, a three-dimensional image can be easily acquired.

FIG. 1 is a diagram showing an outline of an X-ray CT apparatus. The imaging ring (1) is provided with an X-ray source (2) over the entire circumference of the ring. One or two X-ray sources (2) are simultaneously activated by the control circuit (6) to emit X-rays (3). The X-ray (3) emitted from the X-ray source (2) passes through the subject (4), enters the X-ray detector array (5), and is detected. The obtained detection signal is analyzed by the signal processing circuit (7) and displayed as a slice image on a display unit (not shown). An X-ray detector array (5) is also provided around the entire ring corresponding to the X-ray source (1). As an example, the X-ray source (1) and the X-ray detector array (5) are provided so as to overlap in the front-rear direction of the paper surface, but may be alternately provided on the circumference if desired.
FIG. 2 is a diagram showing details of the X-ray source (1). As an X-ray source (1), an anode (12), a grid (13), and a cathode (14) are provided in the element housing (11). The generated X-ray (3) is emitted from the window (17). A positive voltage is applied to the anode (12) by an anode power source (15). A negative voltage is applied to the cathode (14) by the cathode power source (16). The cathode power supply (16) has a pulse waveform and enables instantaneous X-ray generation. A typical material of the anode (12) is copper, and a typical material of the cathode (14) is a graphite nanocrater or a carbon nanotube.
By providing the grid (13), the generation of X-rays can be controlled by the low-voltage cathode power supply (16), which is easy to manufacture and enables high reliability and high-speed switching.
For this reason, the generation order of X-rays can be set arbitrarily. When helical tomographic imaging is performed, it is necessary to sequentially generate the images in the same direction. However, if desired, the speed can be increased in combination with thinning. Further, since it does not have a rotation mechanism with large inertia, it is possible to emit X-rays from a specific angle in synchronization with the heartbeat.
If a photon counting type is used as the X-ray detector, an energy discrimination function can be used. The energy level of X-rays to be detected is switched according to the target substance. It is also used for material identification and identification. In this case, a plurality of X-rays having different energies are generated.
The photon counting type imager detects charges generated when one X-ray or γ-ray photon is incident on a radiation detection element typified by cadmium telluride (CdTe). The number of generated charges is proportional to the energy of incident photons. Therefore, the energy of the incident photon can be determined by discriminating the peak value of the signal obtained as the output. The discrimination operation must be completed before the next photon is incident. For an environment where photons are continuously incident, the time window is narrowed and energy is discriminated at the time interval when one photon is incident. . In addition, the number of incident photons per unit time is reduced by attenuation by a thin plate of iron or lead, and the number of photons can be counted. After that, counting is performed for each discriminated energy category.
FIG. 3 shows a conceptual diagram of the photon counting imager. 21 is CdTe, 22 is an amplifier, 23 is a comparator for performing energy discrimination, and 24 is a counter. Different voltages V1, V2, V3... Are applied to the other input of the comparator (23), respectively, so that energy discrimination is possible. A collimator (25) is provided as necessary. This is a single unit, and a plurality of units are arranged in a straight line to constitute a line scanner.
FIG. 4 shows an example in which after the energy discrimination is performed by the comparator (23), the exclusive OR circuit (26) performs counting for each energy band. The discrimination voltages V1, V2, V3 ... are set as V1>V2> V3 ...., and when the input signal exceeds the discrimination voltage, a counting pulse is output. . By providing an exclusive OR circuit (26), a pulse corresponding to an energy level exceeding V1, a pulse corresponding to an energy level exceeding V2 and not exceeding V1, and a pulse corresponding to an energy level exceeding V3 and not exceeding V2 Are individually input to the counter (24).
In FIG. 5, the energy discrimination is performed by the comparator (23), the output pulses are counted by the counter (24), and then the high energy side count value is subtracted from the low energy side count value by the subtractor (27). This is an example of obtaining a count value for each energy band. In this case as well, the discrimination voltages V1, V2, V3 ... are set as V1>V2> V3 ..., and when the input signal exceeds the discrimination voltage, the counting pulse Is output. The count value on the low energy side includes a count value corresponding to the high energy component, and a subtracter (27) is provided to remove this count value. The subtraction process itself may be performed in the signal processing circuit (7) at the subsequent stage.
In the present invention, since a large number of micro X-ray sources using a micro electron source to which semiconductor technology is applied are arranged and switched, the rotation mechanism in the CT apparatus can be omitted, and the size can be reduced.
In addition, since the switching is performed by the gate voltage (low voltage) of the micro electron source in the X-ray source, the switching of the high voltage itself is unnecessary and the manufacture is easy, and high reliability and high-speed switching are possible.
