Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to an exposure apparatus using an organic electroluminescent element as a light source and an image forming apparatus using the exposure apparatus.
As an exposure apparatus applied to an exposure light source such as an electrophotographic apparatus, for example, an exposure head using an inorganic LED as a light emission light source has been commercialized. Since it cannot be formed at the same time, it is necessary to arrange several to several tens of array chips in which inorganic LEDs are formed in an array and arrange them one-dimensionally in the subsequent process. However, there is a serious drawback in that it causes a problem in uniformity and costs are high.
However, the method of using the microlens disclosed in (Patent Document 2) and (Patent Document 3) instead of the conventional rod lens array has technical problems including variations and the like, and may increase the cost. There is also.
On the other hand, the rod lens array has a role of condensing the light emitted from the organic electroluminescent element to focus on the photosensitive member, but the so-called aperture angle is small, so that the light transmission efficiency is poor, and the organic electro It is necessary to shine the luminescent element with ultra-high brightness.
For example, the exposure energy required to expose a photoreceptor constituting an electrophotographic apparatus and form a latent image includes the required printing speed, resolution, and the required number of prints, as well as the type of the photoreceptor, charging potential, and developing bias potential. Although it varies depending on the above, a high-sensitivity analog photosensitive member (photosensitive member used in an analog copying machine that directly guides reflected light from a document to the photosensitive member), a digital photosensitive member (for example, a laser driven based on an image signal) Both the photosensitive member exposed by the light source) require energy of about 0.5 microjoules / cm 2 . The higher the printing speed of the electrophotographic apparatus, the higher the brightness and the shorter the writing time is required to form a sufficient latent image on these photoconductors. For example, when a printing speed of 10 sheets or more per minute is required, when converted to luminance per pixel, it is 10,000 cd / m 2 or more in the case of a green light emitting element and 2000 cd / m 2 in the case of a red light emitting element. The above ultra-high brightness is required.
In general, the light emission luminance of an organic electroluminescent element can be increased by increasing a current value for driving the element. However, in the case of a green light emitting element, it is well known that the drive current value and the light emission luminance are in a proportional relationship in a low luminance region of about 1000 cd / m 2. However, as the light emission luminance is increased, the drive current value The rate at which the emission luminance increases with respect to the increase decreases.
This is because in order to increase the drive current value, the drive voltage applied to the organic electroluminescent element is increased. Therefore, the electric field strength applied to the organic electroluminescent element becomes very large, and the organic electroluminescent element is increased. It is conceivable that the efficiency of recombination of electrons and holes decreases due to the loss of the balance between the mobility of electrons and holes injected into the light emitting layer constituting the luminescent element. However, the detailed mechanism is unknown. These factors are also the reason why the required power becomes large when the element is driven with extremely high brightness.
Further, when the organic electroluminescent element is driven at a constant current, the luminance decreases with the driving time. In addition, as the drive current increases, the lifetime of the organic electroluminescent element decreases rapidly. This factor has been energetically analyzed but not fully understood. Possible factors include the reaction of oxygen, water, and other organic materials that are thought to be slightly contained, the reaction of light-emitting materials with holes and electrons moving, and the metal materials used for the cathode There are various factors such as diffusion of indium oxide and diffusion of indium oxide used as a transparent electrode, and it seems that luminance is reduced as a composite factor of these factors. Because of these factors, when an organic electroluminescent element is used as an exposure apparatus mounted on an electrophotographic apparatus, for example, when it is driven with the energy necessary to expose the photosensitive member, the element life is shortened and it is far from practical use. .
Also, recent electrophotographic apparatuses such as printers and MFPs (Multi Function Printers) are required to have higher printing speeds, and even low-priced machines demand 10 or more sheets per minute from the market. It has been. As the printing speed increases, energy for forming a latent image on the photosensitive member must be given in a short time, and a stronger light emission luminance is required. This means that the lifetime of the organic electroluminescent element is shortened.
On the other hand, it is known that the lifetime of the organic electroluminescent element becomes shorter as the luminance becomes higher. However, when the organic electroluminescent device is made to emit light with ultra high luminance of several thousand to several 10000 cd / m 2 or more, light emission at low luminance is achieved. The lifetime is much shorter than the lifetime predicted from the acceleration coefficient representing the relationship between the brightness and the lifetime, and the organic electroluminescent element cannot be applied to an exposure apparatus applied to an electrophotographic apparatus.
The exposure apparatus of the present invention has been made in view of the above problems. In an exposure apparatus using an organic electroluminescent element as a light source, the area of the light emitting region of the organic electroluminescent element is 25 μm 2 or more and 10,000 μm per pixel. together constituting 2 or less, it is obtained by power and one pixel per 3.5 W / cm 2 or more 100W / cm 2 or less to be introduced into the organic electroluminescence element.

By setting it to / cm 2 or more and 100 W / cm 2 or less, the lifetime of the organic electroluminescent element can be greatly improved as predicted from the lifetime of a normal organic electroluminescent element.

This makes it possible to significantly improve the lifetime of the organic electroluminescent element than expected from the lifetime of a normal organic electroluminescent element.

As an inorganic substance constituting the pixel regulation layer, for example, a general material such as silicon oxide can be used, and thus it is possible to make the light emitting area of each organic electroluminescent element uniform with high accuracy by a simple process. In the present invention, the light emitting layer of the organic electroluminescent element is composed of a light emitting material having a peak wavelength of 600 nm or more and 800 nm or less. As a result, a so-called digital photoconductor can be used as the photoconductor, so that the cost of an image forming apparatus equipped with an exposure device can be reduced.
In the present invention, the organic electroluminescent elements are arranged in rows or staggered. As a result, the organic electroluminescent element can be driven with a simple configuration.

As a result, it is possible to secure the drive time of the organic electroluminescent element necessary and sufficient for forming the latent image.

Since the inorganic compound has excellent insulating properties and high withstand voltage, it is preferable to use an inorganic compound for the
As will be described in detail later, in Example 1, the area of the light emitting region LA of the
82 is a hole injection layer. The
86 is a cathode. As the

The manufacturing process of the

When the
For the samples thus obtained, the drive current value was adjusted so that the initial luminance was almost the same for each sample, and a life test was performed by DC drive. As the definition of the lifetime, the lifetime was defined as when the device was driven at a constant initial luminance and could no longer be driven. That is, the amount of light was monitored with a photodiode, and the current and voltage were adjusted so that the initial set luminance was obtained when the luminance decreased 2% from the initial set luminance. When light emission is continuously observed at a constant luminance in this way, a limit time is observed in which the initial set luminance cannot be maintained even if the current and voltage are further increased. In Example 1, this time was defined as the lifetime. Therefore, the electric power input to the
As is clear from Table 1, the lifetime of a sample having a 200 μm square light emitting area LA per pixel is short, whereas the light emitting area LA per pixel is 100 μm square (that is, the area of the light emitting area is 10,000 μm 2 ). It can be seen that the samples having the following effects are effective in improving the lifetime, and that the lifetime is improved until the light emitting area LA is 5 μm square (25 μm 2 ). However, if the light emitting area LA is 3 μm square, the device will be in a non-light emitting state within a very short period of 10 minutes, at least in DC drive, and significant data should be collected. I could not.
As described above, when the photosensitive member is exposed with red light, the amount of emitted light required for the
In the first embodiment, the specification of the electrophotographic apparatus on which the exposure apparatus is mounted is assumed to be 20 ppm (entering the category of a low-speed machine to a medium-speed machine), but in the case of a high-speed machine such as 40 ppm, for example, 5000 cd. At / m 2 , it becomes difficult to form a latent image having a high contrast on the photoreceptor, and the
Next, evaluation was performed by pulse drive. The pulse driving condition was that the
The results are shown in (Table 2). As can be seen from Table 2, the lifetime is improved compared to the case of DC driving under all conditions, but it can be seen that the degree of improvement is particularly large in an element having a light emitting area LA per pixel of 100 μm square or less.
As will be described later in Example 2, the
Of these, polymer electroluminescent elements are considered to be capable of lower-cost devices because of their simple layer structure and mass production using coating methods. However, it is generally said that the driving life is shorter than that of the low molecular type. However, as described with reference to (Table 1) to (Table 2), the effect of defining the light-emitting area LA of the
Next, PEDT used in Example 1 was removed, and a device was fabricated in the same manner as in Example 1 except that MoO 3 was vacuum-deposited to a thickness of 50 nm instead. When the obtained

Hereinafter, a method for driving the
The driving method of the

The size of one element is a square with a corner of 32 μm in both the main scanning direction and the sub-scanning direction, and is arranged in a straight line at a pitch of 42.3 μm. When arranged at 1200 dpi, it is necessary to arrange at a pitch of 21.2 μm, and the pixels may be arranged in a line with a size of about 18 μm, or 32 μm square elements may be arranged in a staggered arrangement so as not to overlap each other.

62は基板50上に形成されたTFT(Thin Film Transistor)回路である。
Reference numeral 62 denotes a TFT (Thin Film Transistor) circuit formed on the

In the first embodiment, the organic

For example, 52 is a relay substrate in which an electronic circuit is formed on a glass epoxy substrate. 53a is a connector A, 53b is a connector B, and at least a
Since it is difficult to directly mount the connector on the surface of the

Hereinafter, the description will be continued returning to FIG.

The recording paper passage detection sensor 21 is constituted by a reflective sensor (photo reflector), and detects the leading edge and the trailing edge of the recording paper 3 based on the presence or absence of reflected light.
When the power transmission is controlled by an electromagnetic clutch (not shown) and the rotation of the registration roller 19 is started, the recording paper 3 is conveyed in the direction of the yellow developing station 2Y along the recording paper conveyance path 5, but the rotation of the registration roller 19 is started.
A fixing

The difference between Example 2 and Example 1 is only the material constituting the
The manufacturing process of the
In the same manner as in Example 1, a sample having an element size of 200 μm square, 100 μm square, 40 μm square, 20 μm square, and 8 μm square is used for the low molecular vapor deposition of the light emitting area LA per pixel of the
As the
The definition of the lifetime for Example 2 is the same as that described in Example 1.
As apparent from Table 3, it can be seen that the effect of the present invention is remarkable even when the
As is clear from (Table 3), the sample adjusted to the element size of the present invention is particularly effective in improving the life when the initial luminance is set to 5000 cd / m 2 or more.
These reasons are not clear at the present time, but both the low molecular weight materials and the high molecular weight materials are very surprising results.
As described above, since the exposure apparatus according to the present invention can perform exposure stably with little deterioration of light emission luminance over a long period of time, it can be used for printers, copiers, MFPs, facsimile machines, photo printers, and the like. Is possible.
